1Impending HRT wave precursors to the Wenchuan M_s8.0 earthquake and methods of earthquake impending prediction by using HRT wave显示文摘We deployed four geo-electric monitoring stations in Sichuan and Yunnan provinces from 2004, using the new generation of equipment (PS-100) and technologies to capture the HRT wave earthquake precursor. Before the Wenchuan Ms8.0 earthquake, we recorded the HRT wave precursor at the only operating station in Hongge (HG, Δ=465 km) and found that significant impending signal had been recorded at the station in the early morning ( 0―5 am) of 12th of May, 2008. The precursor for this earthquake is consistent with precursors recorded for other strong earthquakes. The measured physical properties (geo-resistivity and telluric-current) show tidal wave period oscillations from several days to several months before the earthquakes and the amplitude of such HT oscillation increases significantly towards the occurrence of an earthquake. These HT and RT waves from the epicenter have a causal relationship with the earthquakes that happened several days later. The arrival time of two RT waves is proportional to the distance from the station to the epicenter. The estimated natural decay of the amplitude is correlated with the natural period (T0) of the earthquake fault, which is proportional to the fault length. From this relationship, we can predict the earthquake magnitude. For magnitude 6―9 earthquakes, the natural period is about 1―6 hours. Such oscillation comes from the epicenter area and they can propagate several thousand kilometers in the Earth's crust. Before a strong earthquake in the shallow crust, the conductive pore fluid will experience major changes before the fault rapture. Such fluid change will emit an oscillation in the pore fluid pressure. This is the mechanism for the HRT wave generation. Since the China Earthquake Administration funded the HRT wave short-term earth-quake prediction project in 2003, the first record of HRT precursor wave has been recorded from the 2004-12-26 Sumatra Mw9.0 earthquake with the largest epicentre distance Δ=2900 km. Thereafter, we have captured HRT waves from more than twenty strong earthquakes, which are well-matched and show repeatability, consistency and regularity. All our observation with the HRT waves demonstrate that HRT wave precursors to earthquakes indeed exist. Strong earthquakes can be predicted and short-term and impending earthquake prediction is achievable in the very near future. From all the observations, including the ones at HG station from Wenchuan Ms8.0 earthquake, we conclude that using HRT wave to predict earthquakes is feasible.QIAN FuYe ZHAO BiRu QIAN Wei ZHAO Jian HE ShiGen ZHANG HongKui LI ShiYu LI ShaoKun YAN GuLiang WANG ChengMin SUN ZhenKai ZHANG DongNing LU Jun ZHANG Ping YANG GuoJun SUN JiaLin GUO ChunSheng TANG YuXiong XU JianMing XIA KunTao JU Hang YIN BangHong LI Ming YANG DongSheng QI WeiLuo HE TaiMing GUAN HuaPing ZHAO YuLin 2009Science China Earth Sciences2009,52,10:8
2Dynamic mechanical behaviors of Fangshan marble显示文摘Dynamic strength parameters are extensively used in mining engineering and rock mechanics. However, there are no widely accepted dynamic failure models for rocks. In this study, the dynamic punching shear strength, uniaxial compressive strength(UCS) and tensile strength of fine-grained Fangshan marble(FM)are first measured by using a split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB) system. The pulse-shaping technique is then implemented to maintain the dynamic force balance in SHPB tests.Experimental results show that the dynamic punching shear strength,UCS and tensile strength increase with the loading rate.A recently developed dynamic Mohr-Coulomb theory is then used to interpret the testing data.In this model, the angle of internal friction φ is assumed to be independent of loading rate and is obtained using the static strength values.According to the dynamic Mohr-Coulomb theory, the dynamic UCS and the dynamic tensile strength are predicted from the dynamic punching shear strength.Furthermore, based on this dynamic theory, the dynamic UCS is predicted from the dynamic tensile strength. The consistency between the predicted and measured dynamic strengths demonstrates that the dynamic Mohr-Coulomb theory is applicable to FM.Wei Yao Taiming He Kaiwen Xia 2017Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2017,9,5:6
3Rapid growth of a large-scale(600 mm aperture) KDP crystal and its optical quality显示文摘Potassium dihydrogen phosphate(KDP) single crystals are the only nonlinear crystals currently used for electro-optic switches and frequency converters in inertial confinement fusion research, due to their large dimension and exclusive physical properties. Based on the traditional solution-growth process, large bulk KDP crystals, usually with sizes up to600 × 600 mm2 so as to make a frequency doubler for the facility requirement loading highly flux of power laser, can be grown in standard Holden-type crystallizers, without spontaneous nucleation and visible defects, one to two orders of magnitude faster than by conventional methods. Pure water and KDP raw material with a few ion impurities such as Fe,Cr, and Al(less than 0.1 ppm) were used. The rapid-growth method includes extreme conditions such as temperature range from 60 to 35℃ , overcooling up to 5℃ , growth rates exceeding 10 mm/day, and crystal size up to 600 mm. The optical parameters of KDP crystals were determined. The optical properties of crystals determined indicate that they are of favorable quality for application in the facility.Guohui Li Guozong Zheng Yingkun Qi Peixiu Yin En Tang Fei Li Jing Xu Taiming Lei Xiuqin Lin Min Zhang Junye Lu Jinbo Ma Youping He Yuangen Yao 2014High Power Laser Science and Engineering2014,2,1:3
4Theoretical and experimental study of 3-D initial fracture and its significance to faulting显示文摘The experimental results of 3-D fracture under compression are introduced in brief and the theory of stress criterion of 3-D fracture is studied. Methods to imitate initial fractures are developed. It is pointed that there are important defects in the extreme value(EV)method ever proposed by Palaniswamy and Knauss. The major defect lies in that only two Euler angles(2EA)are considered, but another one is neglected. If the variation of all the three Euler angles(3EA)are considered, one can get better result which is consistent with the observation of faulting that extends on curved surfaces but not on planes. The method of evaluating maximal normal stress direction vector(NSDV)is proposed and further proved to be equivalent to the 3EA method. It is proved that the NSDV method can be further optimized to the method of composition of the first principal differential plane(CFPDP).The results from CFPDP method can fit the curved surfaces of initial growth observed in the experiments of 3-D fracture. The CFPDP method can also be used to interpret the 3-D fractures of the slipping section between the asperities in the buried fault plane that is modeled as ellipse crack. The results of 3-D fracture can be applied to interpreting the related problems of faulting including the mechanism of a lot of shatter rocks with different dimensions, the cause of earthquakes occurred at the edge of plate under low shear stress, and the mechanism of anisotropy caused by the extensive dilatancy anisotropy(EDA)cracks.Shiyu Li Taiming He Chunkai Teng Xuyao Zheng Kuksenko Viktor 2011Earthquake Science2011,24,3:1
