Derivation of Cloud-Free-Region Atmospheric Motion Vectors from FY-2E Thermal Infrared Imagery显示文摘The operational cloud-motion tracking technique fails to retrieve atmospheric motion vectors(AMVs) in areas lacking cloud; and while water vapor shown in water vapor imagery can be used, the heights assigned to the retrieved AMVs are mostly in the upper troposphere. As the noise-equivalent temperature difference(NEd T) performance of FY-2E split window(10.3–11.5 μm, 11.6–12.8 μm) channels has been improved, the weak signals representing the spatial texture of water vapor and aerosols in cloud-free areas can be strengthened with algorithms based on the difference principle, and applied in calculating AMVs in the lower troposphere. This paper is a preliminary summary for this purpose, in which the principles and algorithm schemes for the temporal difference, split window difference and second-order difference(SD) methods are introduced. Results from simulation and cases experiments are reported in order to verify and evaluate the methods, based on comparison among retrievals and the 'truth'. The results show that all three algorithms, though not perfect in some cases, generally work well. Moreover, the SD method appears to be the best in suppressing the surface temperature influence and clarifying the spatial texture of water vapor and aerosols. The accuracy with respect to NCEP 800 h Pa reanalysis data was found to be acceptable, as compared with the accuracy of the cloud motion vectors. | Zhenhui WANG Xinxiu SUI Qing ZHANG Lu YANG Hang ZHAO Min TANG Yizhe ZHAN Zhiguo ZHANG | 2017 | Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2017,34,2: | 4
Spatiotemporal characterization of laser pulse amplification in double-pass active mirror geometry显示文摘We present a spatiotemporal model of pulse amplification in the double-pass active mirror(AM)geometry.Three types of overlap condition are studied, and the spatiotemporal scaling under the four-pulse overlapping(4 PO)condition is fully characterized for the first time,by mapping the temporal and spatial segments of beam to the instantaneous gain windows.Furthermore, the influence of spatiotemporal overlaps on the amplified energy, pulse distortion and intensity profile is unraveled for both AM and zigzag configurations. The model, verified by excellent agreement between the predicted and measured results, can be a powerful tool for designing and optimizing high energy multi-pass solid-state laser amplifiers with AM,zigzag and other geometries. | Tinghao Liu Qiang Liu Zhan Sui Mali Gong Xing Fu | 2020 | High Power Laser Science and Engineering2020,8,3: | 2

Influence of particle size and ionic strength on the freeze-thaw stability of emulsions stabilized by whey protein isolate显示文摘The influence of particle size and ionic strength on the freeze-thaw(FT) stability of emulsions stabilized by whey protein isolate(WPI) was investigated in this study. The destabilization of emulsions during the FT process could be suppressed in a way by decreasing the particle size of the initial emulsions, which was the result of retarding the coalescence between oil droplets. To further improve the FT stability of emulsions, different amounts of Na Cl were added before emulsification. The emulsions with the ionic strength at 30–50 mmol/L exhibited good FT stability. Notably, the ionic strength in this range would not lower the freezing point of emulsions below the freezing temperature used in this study. Salt addition could improve the structural properties of proteins, which was available to strengthen the rigidity and thickness of interfacial layers, sequentially building up the resistance that the destruction of ice crystals to emulsions. Moreover, stronger flocculation between emulsion droplets could promote the formation of a gel-like network structure dominated by elasticity in the emulsion system, which might effectively inhibit the movement of droplets, and improve the FT stability of emulsions eventually. The result was of great significance for the preparation of emulsion-based foods with improved FT stability. | Hao Lai Fuchao Zhan Yujie Wei Abel W.S.Zongo Sha Jiang Haomin Sui Bin Li Jing Li | 2022 | Food Science and Human Wellness2022,11,4: | 1
Development of low-coherence high-power laser drivers for inertial confinement fusion显示文摘The use of low-coherence light is expected to be one of the effective ways to suppress or even eliminate the laser–plasma instabilities that arise in attempts to achieve inertial confinement fusion. In this paper,a review of low-coherence high-power laser drivers and related key techniques is first presented.Work at typical low-coherence laser facilities, including Gekko XII,PHEBUS,Pharos III,and Kanal-2 is described. The many key techniques that are used in the research and development of low-coherence laser drivers are described and analyzed, including low-coherence source generation, amplification, harmonic conversion, and beam smoothing of low-coherence light. Then, recent progress achieved by our group in research on a broadband low-coherence laser driver is presented.During the development of our low-coherence high-power laser facility,we have proposed and implemented many key techniques for working with low-coherence light, including source generation, efficient amplification and propagation, harmonic conversion, beam smoothing, and precise beam control.Based on a series of technological breakthroughs,a kilojoule low-coherence laser driver named Kunwu with a coherence time of only 300 fs has been built, and the first round of physical experiments has been completed. This high-power laser facility provides not only a demonstration and verification platform for key techniques and system integration of a low-coherence laser driver, but also a new type of experimental platform for research into, for example,high-energy-density physics and,in particular, laser–plasma interactions. | Yanqi Gao Yong Cui Lailin Ji Daxing Rao Xiaohui Zhao Fujian Li Dong Liu Wei Feng Lan Xia Jiani Liu Haitao Shi Pengyuan Du Jia Liu Xiaoli Li Tao Wang Tianxiong Zhang Chong Shan Yilin Hua Weixin Ma Xun Sun Xianfeng Chen Xiuguang Huang Jian Zhu Wenbing Pei Zhan Sui Sizu Fu | 2020 | Matter and Radiation at Extremes2020,5,6: | 1

Determination of molecular energies via variational-based quantum imaginary time evolution in a superconducting qubit system显示文摘As a valid tool for solving ground state problems, imaginary time evolution(ITE)is widely used in physical and chemical simulations.Different ITE-based algorithms in their quantum counterpart have recently been proposed and applied to some real systems. We experimentally realize the variational-based quantum imaginary time evolution(QITE)algorithm to simulate the ground state energy of hydrogen(H_2)and lithium hydride(Li H)molecules in a superconducting qubit system. The H_2 molecule is directly simulated using the 3-qubit circuit with unitary-coupled clusters(UCC)ansatz. We also combine QITE with the cluster mean-field(CMF)method to obtain an effective Hamiltonian. The Li H molecule is correspondingly simulated using the 3-qubit circuit with hardware-efficient ansatz. For comparison, the Li H molecule is also directly simulated using the 4-qubit circuit with UCC ansatz at the equilibrium point. All the experimental results show a convergence within 4 iterations, with high-fidelity ground state energy obtained. For a more complex system in the future, the CMF may allow further grouping of interactions to obtain an effective Hamiltonian, then the hybrid QITE algorithm can possibly simulate a relatively large-scale system with fewer qubits. | Zhiwen Zong Sainan Huai Tianqi Cai Wenyan Jin Ze Zhan Zhenxing Zhang Kunliang Bu Liyang Sui Ying Fei Yicong Zheng Shengyu Zhang Jianlan Wu Yi Yin | 2024 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2024,67,4: | 0

Singlet oxygen-dominated peroxymonosulfate activation by layered crednerite for organic pollutants degradation in high salinity wastewater显示文摘Advanced oxidation processes have been widely studied for organic pollutants treatment in water, but the degradation performance of radical-dominated pathway was severely inhibited by the side reactions between the anions and radicals, especially in high salinity conditions. Here,a singlet oxygen(^(1)O_(2))-dominated non-radical process was developed for organic pollutants degradation in high salinity wastewater, with layered crednerite(CuMnO_(2))as catalysts and peroxymonosulfate(PMS)as oxidant.Based on the experiments and density functional theory calculations,^(1)O_(2)was the dominating reactive species and the constructed Cu-O-Mn with electron-deficient Mn captured electron from PMS promoting the generation of^(1)O_(2).The rapid degradation of bisphenol A(BPA)was achieved by CuMnO_(2)/PMS system, which was 5-fold and 21-fold higher than that in Mn_(2)O_(3)/PMS system and Cu_(2)O/PMS system. The CuMnO_(2)/PMS system shown prominent BPA removal performance under high salinity conditions, prominent PMS utilization efficiency, outstanding total organic carbon removal rate, wide range of applicable pH and good stability. This work unveiled that the^(1)O_(2)-dominated non-radical process of CuMnO_(2)/PMS system overcame the inhibitory effect of anions in high salinity conditions, which provided a promising technique to remove organic pollutants from high saline wastewater. | Chengji Sui Zixuan Nie Huan Liu Grzegorz Boczkaj Weizhen Liu Lingshuai Kong Jinhua Zhan | 2024 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2024,,1: | 0

A nanonewton-scale biomimetic mechanosensor显示文摘Biomimetic mechanosensors have profound implications for various areas, including health care, prosthetics, human‒machine interfaces, and robotics. As one of the most important parameters, the sensitivity of mechanosensors is intrinsically determined by the detection resolution to mechanical force. In this manuscript,we expand the force detection resolution of current biomimetic mechanosensors from the micronewton to nanonewton scale. We develop a nanocrack-based electronic whisker-type mechanosensor that has a detection resolution of 72.2 nN.We achieve the perception of subtle mechanical stimuli, such as tiny objects and airflow, and the recognition of surface morphology down to a 30 nm height, which is the finest resolution ever reported in biomimetic mechanosensors.More importantly,we explore the use of this mechanosensor in wearable devices for sensing gravity field orientation with respect to the body, which has not been previously achieved by these types of sensors. We develop a wearable smart system for sensing the body’s posture and movements, which can be used for remote monitoring of falls in elderly people. In summary, the proposed device offers great advantages for not only improving sensing ability but also expanding functions and thus can be used in many fields not currently served by mechanosensors. | Chi Zhang Mengxi Wu Ming Li Lixuan Che Zhiguang Tan Di Guo Zhan Kang Shuye Cao Siqi Zhang Yu Sui Jining Sun Liding Wang Junshan Liu | 2023 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2023,9,4: | 0
