| 3 | Thermal energy storage:Challenges and the role of particle technology显示文摘Thermal energy is at the heart of the whole energy chain providing a main linkage between the primary and secondary energy sources.Thermal energy storage(TES)has a pivotal role to play in the energy chain and hence in future low carbon economy.However,a competitive TES technology requires a number of scientific and technological challenges to be addressed including TES materials,TES components and devices,and integration of TES devices with energy networks and associated dynamic optimization.This paper provides a perspective of TES technology with a focus on TES materials challenges using molten salts based phase change materials for medium and high temperature applications.Two key challenges for the molten salt based TES materials are chemical incompatibility and low thermal conductivity.The use of composite materials provides an avenue to meeting the challenges.Such composite materials consist of a phase change material,a structural supporting material,and a thermal conductivity enhancement material.The properties of the supporting material could determine the dispersion of the thermal conductivity enhancement material in the salt.A right combination of the salt,the structural supporting material,and the thermal conductivity enhancement material could give a hierarchical structure that is able to encapsulate the molten salt and give a substantial enhancement in the thermal conductivity.Understanding of the structure-property relationships for the composite is essential for the formulation design and fabrication of the composite materials.Linking materials properties to the system level performance is recommended as a key future direction of research. | Zhiwei Ge Yongliang Li Dacheng Li Ze Sun Yi Jin Chuanping Liu Chuan Li Guanghui Leng Yulong Ding | 2014 | Particuology2014,12,4: | 20 |
| 4 | Generation of B Cell-Deficient Pigs by Highly Efficient CRISPR/Cas9-Mediated Gene Targeting显示文摘Generating B cell-deficient mutant is the first step to produce human antibody repertoires in large animal models. In this study, we applied the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat(CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated(Cas) system to target the JHregion of the pig Ig M heavy chain gene which is crucial for B cell development and differentiation. Transfection of Ig M-targeting Cas9 plasmid in primary porcine fetal fibroblasts(PFFs) enabled inducing gene knock out(KO) in up to 53.3% of colonies analyzed, a quarter of which harbored biallelic modification, which was much higher than that of the traditional homologous recombination(HR). With the aid of somatic cell nuclear transfer(SCNT) technology, three piglets with the biallelic Ig M heavy chain gene mutation were produced. The piglets showed no antibody-producing B cells which indicated that the biallelic mutation of the Ig M heavy chain gene effectively knocked out the function of the Ig M and resulted in a B cell-deficient phenotype. | 5 | How Work Organization Affects the Prevalence of WMSDs: A Case-control Study显示文摘Objective In this study, we aimed at exploring the association between work-related musculoskeletal disorders(WMSDs) and work organization based on a case-control study. Methods A total of 1938 workers who claimed to suffer from WMSDs were selected from Beijing, Henan, Hubei, and the Guangdong province. The control group consisted of 2009 workers employed in similar industries without severe disease or musculoskeletal discomforts. We used a modified version of the questionnaire developed by the NMQ and the DMQ to investigate individual and work-related factors. Results A total of 13 variables(P<0.1) were selected by the chi-square test and finally, 7 variables entered into the equation, with 6 variables reaching statistical significance(P<0.05). The odds ratios(OR) of ‘work changing with season' and ‘sufficient rest time' did not reach 1(0.749 and 0.441, respectively). In addition, ‘sufficient rest time' seemed to be the stronger protective factor according to its higher standardized coefficient. And ‘repetitive work every minute', ‘constantly repetitive work'(every day), ‘shortage of site personnel', and ‘often switching shifts with others' seemed to be the risk factors. Conclusion Work organization may have comprehensive effects on the occurrence of WMSDs. | 6 | Critical velocity in phosphorus exchange processes across the sediment-water interface显示文摘Sediments are ultimate sinks of nutrients in lakes that record the pollution history evolutionary processes, and anthropogenic activities of a lake. However, sediments are considered as inner sources of environmental factor changes such as the variation in hydrodynamic conditions because of the nutrients they release. How does this process happen? This study investigates a typical nutrient phosphorus(P) exchange among sediment, suspended particle matter(SPM), and water. Compared with numerical and experimental studies, this study confirms that the critical velocity that occurs at a lower flow rate state exists in the range of 7 to 15 cm/sec. Critical velocity below the critical flow rate promotes the migration of particulate phosphorus(PP) to the SPM. | 7 | The anti-inflammatory effects of asiatic acid in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated human corneal epithelial cells显示文摘AIM: To investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of asiatic acid(AA) on lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced inflammatory response in human corneal epithelial cells(HCECs).METHODS: Cell viability was measured using a cell counting kit-8(CCK-8) assay.Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qR T-PCR) was used to determine the mR NA expression of interleukin-8(IL-8),interleukin-6(IL-6),interleukin-1β(IL-1β),tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α),and transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β) in HCECs.Intracellular reactive oxygen species(ROS) was measured using the ROS assay kit.Glutathione(GSH) concentration was measured using the total GSH assay kit.Akt1 and Akt phosphorylation(p-Akt1) levels were measured by Western blotting and immunofluorescence.RESULTS: AA induced toxicity at high concentrations and significantly stimulated the proliferation of HCECs at concentrations of 20 μmol/L for 1h.LPS at concentrations of 300 ng/mL for 1h significantly stimulated the mR NA expression of IL-8,IL-6,IL-1β,TNF-α,and TGF-β in HCECs,while the stimulation effects were significantly inhibited by AA(20 μmol/L).In addition,AA was found to decrease the content of ROS,increase GSH generation,and also inhibit LPS-induced p-Akt in HCECs.CONCLUSION: AA decreases the generation of inflammatory factors IL-8,IL-6,IL-1β,TNF-α,and TGF-β in LPSstimulated HCECs.AA significantly inhibites the intracellular concentrations of ROS and increases GSH generation.AA also inhibites LPS-induced p-Akt in HCECs.These findings reveal that AA has anti-inflammation effects in LPS-stimulated HCECs. | Hao Chen Xiao-Min Hua Bai-Chen Ze Bin Wang Li Wei | 2017 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2017,10,2: | 9 |

| 12 | Identification of biomarkers for hepatocellular carcinoma by semiquantitative immunocytochemistry显示文摘AIM:To investigate the expression of key biomarkers in hepatoma cell lines,tumor cells from patients’blood samples,and tumor tissues.METHODS:We performed the biomarker tests in two steps.First,cells plated on coverslips were used to assess biomarkers,and fluorescence intensities were calculated using the NIH Image J software.The measured values were analyzed using the SPSS19.0 software to make comparisons among eight cell lines.Second,eighty-four individual samples were used to assess the biomarkers’expression.Negative enrichment of the blood samples was performed,and karyocytes were isolated and dropped onto pretreated glass slides for further analysis by immunofluorescence staining.Fluorescence intensities were compared among hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients,chronic HBV-infected patients,and healthy controls following methods similar to those used for cell lines.The relationships between the expression of biomarkers and clinical pathological parameters were analyzed by Spearman rank correlation tests.In addition,we studied the distinct biomarkers’expression with three-dimensional laser confocal microscopy reconstructions,and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was performed to understand the clinical significance of these biomarkers.RESULTS:Microscopic examination and fluorescence intensity calculations indicated that cytokeratin 8/18/19(CK)expression was significantly higher in six of the seven HCC cell lines examined than in the control cells,and the expression levels of asialoglycoprotein receptor(ASGPR)and glypican-3(GPC3)were higher in all seven HCC cell lines than in the control.Cells obtained from HCC patients’blood samples also displayed significantly higher expression levels of ASGPR,GPC3,and CK than cells from chronic HBV-infected patients or healthy controls;these proteins may be valuable surface biomarkers for identifying HCC circulating tumor cells isolated and enriched from the blood samples.The stem cell-like and epithelial-mesenchymal transition-related biomarkers could be detected on the karyocyte slides.ASGPR and GPC3 were expressed at high levels,and thus three-dimensional reconstructions were used to observe their expression in detail.This analysis indicated that GPC3 was localized in the cytoplasm and membrane,but that ASGPR had a polar localization.Survival analyses showed that expression of GPC3 and ASGPR is associated with a patient’s overall survival(OS).CONCLUSION:ASGPR,GPC3,and CK may be valuable HCC biomarkers for CTC detection;the expression of ASGPR and GPC3 might be helpful for understanding patients’OS. | Hong Mu Kai-Xuan Lin Hong Zhao Shu Xing Cong Li Fang Liu Hai-Zhen Lu Ze Zhang Yu-Lin Sun Xi-Yun Yan Jian-Qiang Cai Xiao-Hang Zhao | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,19: | 8 |

| 15 | Decision Support System for Adaptive Restoration Control of Transmission System显示文摘The power system restoration control has a higher uncertainty level than the preventive control of cascading failures. In order to ensure the feasibility of the decision support system of restoration control, a decision support framework for adaptive restoration control of transmission system is proposed, which can support the coordinated restoration of multiple partitions, coordinated restoration of units and loads, and coordination of multi-partition decision-making process and actual restoration process. The proposed framework is divided into two layers, global coordination layer and partition optimization layer. The upper layer partitions the transmission system according to the power outage scenario, constantly and dynamically adjusts the partitions during the restoration process, and optimizes the time-space decision-making of inter-partition connectivity. For each partition, the lower layer pre-selects restoration targets according to the estimated restoration income, optimizes the corresponding restoration paths, and evaluates the restoration plans according to the expected net income per unit of power consumption. During the restoration process, if the restoration operation such as energizing the outage branch fails, the current restoration plan will be adaptively switched to the sub-optimal one or re-optimized if necessary. The framework includes two operation modes, i.e., the on-line operation mode and training simulation mode, and provides an information interaction interface for collaborative restoration with related distribution systems. | 17 | The combination of PD-1 blockade with interferon-αhas a synergistic effect on hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Background The efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs),such as programmed cell death protein-1(PD-1)or its ligand 1(PD-L1)antibody,in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is limited,and it is recommended that they be combined with other therapies.We evaluated the combination of pegylated interferon-α(Peg-IFNα)with PD-1 blockade in HCC mouse models.Methods We analyzed the effects of Peg-IFNαon tumor-infiltrating immune cells and PD-1 expression in the HCC immune microenvironment and examined the underlying mechanism of its unique effect on the PD-1 pathway.The in vivo efficacy of anti-PD-1 and Peg-IFNαwas evaluated in both subcutaneous and orthotopic mouse models of HCC.Results The combination of Peg-IFNαwith PD-1 blockade dramatically enhanced T-cell infiltration,improved the efficacy of PD-1 antibody and prolonged mouse survival compared with PD-1 antibody monotherapy.Mechanistically,Peg-IFNαcould recruit cytotoxic CD8+T cells to infiltrate the HCC microenvironment by inducing tumor cells to secrete the chemokine CCL4.Nevertheless,the HCC microenvironment quickly overcame the immune responses by upregulating PD-1 expression in CD8+T cells via the IFNα-IFNAR1-JAK1-STAT3 signaling pathway.The combination of PD-1 blockade with Peg-IFNαcould restore the cytotoxic capacity of CD8+T cells and exerted a significant synergistic effect on HCC.Conclusion These results indicate that in addition to initiating the antitumor immune response itself,Peg-IFNαcan also generate a microenvironment favoring PD-1 blockade.Thus,the combination of Peg-IFNαand PD-1 blockade can be a promising strategy for HCC. | Ying Zhu Mo Chen Da Xu Tian-En Li Ze Zhang Jian-Hua Li Xiang-Yu Wang Xin Yang Lu Lu Hu-Liang Jia Qiong-Zhu Dong Lun-Xiu Qin | 2022 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2022,19,6: | 6 |
| 18 | Investigation of low-cycle fatigue behavior of austenitic stainless steel for cold-stretched pressure vessels显示文摘Cold-stretched pressure vessels from austenitic stainless steels(ASS) are widely used for storage and transportation of liquefied gases,and have such advantages as thin wall and light weight.Fatigue is an important concern in these pressure vessels,which are subjected to alternative loads.Even though several codes and standards have guidelines on these pressure vessels,there are no relevant design methods on fatigue failure.To understand the fatigue properties of ASS 1.4301(equivalents include UNS S30400 and AISI 304) in solution-annealed(SA) and cold-stretched conditions(9% strain level) and the response of fatigue properties to cold stretching(CS),low-cycle fatigue(LCF) tests were performed at room temperature,with total strain amplitudes ranging from -.4% to -.8%.Martensite transformations were measured during the tests.Comparisons on cyclic stress response,cyclic stress-strain behavior,and fatigue life were carried out between SA and CS materials.Results show that CS reduces the initial hardening stage,but prolongs the softening period in the cyclic stress response.Martensite transformation helps form a stable regime and subsequent secondary hardening.The stresses of monotonic and cyclic stress-strain curves are improved by CS,which leads to a lower plastic strain and a much higher elastic strain.The fatigue resistance of the CS material is better than that of the SA material,which is approximately 1?03 to 2?04 cycles.The S-N curve of the ASME standard for ASS is compared with the fatigue data and is justified to be suitable for the fatigue design of cold-stretched pressure vessels.However,considering the CS material has a better fatigue resistance,the S-N curve will be more conservative.The present study would be helpful in making full use of the advantages of CS to develop a new S-N curve for fatigue design of cold-stretched pressure vessels. | Cun-jian MIAO Jin-yang ZHENG Xiao-zhe GAO Ze HUANG A-bin GUO Du-yi YE Li MA | 2013 | Journal of Zhejiang University-Science A(Applied Physics & Engineering)2013,14,1: | 6 |
