Global Planted Forest Development: Opportunities,Challenges and Policy Choices显示文摘In recent decades, there has seen a dramatic expansion of global planted forest area and their great impact on human life. It is reported in Forest Resource Assessment 2010 that the current area of global planted forests is about 264 million ha, representing only 7% of the total forest area but able to meet the two thirds of the global demand for logs. Planted forests can not only provide timber, fiber, fuel and non-wood forest products, but also contribute to carbon sequestration, restoration of degraded land, landscape rehabilitation and watershed protection. Besides, planted forests can also provide the recreation and amusement for people. In such sense, in the coming decades, planted forests, driven by various factors such as social- economic conditions, market, consumers' demand and new technologies, will have good opportunities for development, and will also increase their contribution to achieving the series of development objectives worldwide. In the meanwhile, the development of planted forests is also constrained by the factors like policies, laws, regulations, technologies and funds, and therefore faced with the challenges in terms of eco- environment preservation, economic development and protection of community interests. Based on the long- term monitoring and research of planted forest development as well as the field study of planted forests abroad, the paper identified the opportunities and challenges in the development of global planted forests through such methods as the SWOT, policy analysis and the others, and proposed the policy choices for promoting the sustainable development of planted forests: 1) There is a need to further understand the functions of planted forests and the importance of the degraded land restoration; 2) A good institutional guarantee and investment environment should be created for the planted forest development; 3) The advanced concepts and methods in terms of the planted forests management should be actively promoted and applied; 4) There is a need to put more focus on environment management and social responsibility; 5) The intensive management of planted forests needs to rely on science and technology support; 6) The international cooperation should be strengthened to jointly facilitate the sustainable development of planted forests. | HE Youjun CHEN Jie LI Zhiyong Research Institute of Forestry Policy and Information, Chinese Academy of Forestry, Beijing 100091,P.R. | 2 | Numerical simulation of the influence of aerosol radiation effect on urban boundary layer显示文摘With the intensification of pollution and urbanization, the aerosol radiation effect continues to play an important role in the urban boundary layer. In this paper, a winter pollution process in Beijing has been taken as an example, and a new aerosol vertical profile in the radiative parameterization scheme within the Weather Forecast Research and Forecasting(WRF) model has been updated to study the effect of aerosols on radiation and the boundary layer. Furthermore, the interactions among aerosols, urbanization, and planetary boundary layer(PBL) meteorology were discussed through a series of numerical experiments. The results show the following:(1) The optimization improves the performance of the model in simulating the distribution features of air temperature, humidity, and wind in Beijing.(2) The aerosols reduce the surface temperature by reducing solar radiation and increasing the temperature in the upper layer by absorbing or backscattering solar radiation. The changes in the PBL temperature lead to more stable atmospheric stratification, reducing the energy transfer from the surface and the height of the boundary layer.(3) With the increase in the aerosol optical depth, the atmospheric stratification most likely becomes stable over rural areas, most likely becomes stable over suburb areas, and has great difficultly becoming stable over urban areas. Aerosol radiative forcing, underlying urban surfaces, and the interaction between them are the main factors that affect the changes in the meteorological elements in the PBL. | Xinran WANG Xiaodong HE Shiguang MIAO Youjun DOU | 2018 | Science China Earth Sciences2018,61,12: | 4

The Gravitational-wave physics Ⅱ: Progress显示文摘It has been a half-decade since the first direct detection of gravitational waves, which signifies the coming of the era of the gravitational-wave astronomy and gravitational-wave cosmology. The increasing number of the detected gravitational-wave events has revealed the promising capability of constraining various aspects of cosmology, astronomy, and gravity. Due to the limited space in this review article, we will briefly summarize the recent progress over the past five years, but with a special focus on some of our own work for the Key Project 'Physics associated with the gravitational waves' supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In particular,(1) we have presented the mechanism of the gravitational-wave production during some physical processes of the early Universe, such as inflation, preheating and phase transition, and the cosmological implications of gravitational-wave measurements;(2) we have put constraints on the neutron star maximum mass according to GW170817 observations;(3) we have developed a numerical relativity algorithm based on the finite element method and a waveform model for the binary black hole coalescence along an eccentric orbit. | Ligong Bian Rong-Gen Cai Shuo Cao Zhoujian Cao He Gao Zong-Kuan Guo Kejia Lee Di Li Jing Liu Youjun Lu Shi Pi Jian-Min Wang Shao-Jiang Wang Yan Wang Tao Yang Xing-Yu Yang Shenghua Yu Xin Zhang | 2021 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2021,64,12: | 2

Direct control of store-operated calcium channels by ultrafast laser显示文摘Ca^(2+) channels are essential to cell birth, life, and death. They can be externally activated by optogenetic tools, but this requires robust introduction of exogenous optogenetic genes for expression of photosensitive proteins in biological systems. Here we present femtoSOC,a method for direct control of Ca^(2+)channels solely by ultrafast laser without the need for optogenetic tools or any other exogenous reagents.Specifically,by focusing and scanning wavelength-tuned low-power femtosecond laser pulses on the plasma membrane for multiphoton excitation,we directly induced Ca^(2+) influx in cultured cells.Mechanistic study reveals that photoexcited flavins covalently bind cysteine residues in Orai1 via thioether bonds, which facilitates Orai1 polymerization to form store-operated calcium channels(SOCs)independently of STIM1,a protein generally participating in SOC formation, enabling all-optical activation of Ca^(2+) influx and downstream signaling pathways. Moreover,we used femtoSOC to demonstrate direct neural activation both in brain slices in vitro and in intact brains of living mice in vivo in a spatiotemporal-specific manner, indicating potential utility of femtoSOC. | Pan Cheng Xiaoying Tian Wanyi Tang Juan Cheng Jin Bao Haipeng Wang Sisi Zheng Youjun Wang Xunbin Wei Tunan Chen Hua Feng Tian Xue Keisuke Goda Hao He | 2021 | Cell Research2021,31,7: | 2
Ring-restricted N-nitrosated rhodamine as a green-light triggered,orange-emission calibrated and fast-releasing nitric oxide donor显示文摘Nitric oxide(NO) donors are versatile tools for nitric oxide biology. The biological response of NO is dependent on the transient concentration and the sustained duration. N-Nitrosated rhodamines are photo-triggered and photo-calibrated NO donors. We recently discovered that suppression of the dihedral angle between the N-nitroso fragment with the rhodamine scaffold facilitates NO release.Inspired by this discovery, we developed a fast-releasing NO donor (NOD575) suitable for biological applications, e.g., the pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells(PASMCs). | Haihong He Tingting He Ziqian Zhang Xiu Xu Huibin Yang Xuhong Qian Youjun Yang | 2018 | Chinese Chemical Letters2018,29,10: | 2

Assessing Threats and Setting Conservation Priorities for Plant Species between Forest and Meadow Ecotone in Sanjiangyuan Nature Reserve, China显示文摘In order to understand the pattern and status of plant species in the forest-meadow ecotonein Sanjiangyuan Nature Reserve, this study was undertaken through expert consultation, literaturesurvey and fieldwork in various parts of the ecotone during 2002-2004. Based on 3 important systems,i.e. threatened status, genetic loss effect and use value, the list of threatened and prioritized plants wasestablished. In this paper, the threatened coefficient was defined as the criteria of category for threatenedplants, the conservation priorities coefficient summed by threatened coefficient, genetic coefficient anduse value coefficient was defined as the criteria of prioritized plants. In addition, 10 indicators toevaluate threatened grading and conservation priorities sequence were included in the 3 importantsystems. The weights of 3 systems and 10 indicators were given through expert consultation andanalytic hierarchy process. Ten indicators were given scores based on the subcriteria, respectively, andall the scores of the 3 systems were summed up for each species, then contrasted to the criteria ofthreatened grading and conservation priorities for plant species. The status of endangerment andconservation priorities of plant species were analyzed, and the results showed that the number ofendangered species was 2, vulnerable species 37, near threatened species 140, safe species 767; the firstconcern category had 4 species, the second concern category 18, the third concern category 150 and theleast concern category 774. | HE Youjun CUI Guofa FENG Zongwei | 2005 | Chinese Forestry Science and Technology2005,4,3: | 0
