1Large-scale blow spinning of heat-resistant nanofibrous air filters显示文摘Particulate matter(PM)pollution has become a serious problem worldwide and various kinds of nanofibrous filters aiming to solve the problem have been developed.It is urgent to remove PM from high-temperature pollution sources,such as industrial emissions,coal furnaces,and automobile exhaust gases.However,filtration at pollution sources remains challenging because most existing air filters are not resistant to high temperature.Herein,heat-resistant polyimide(PI)nanofibrous air filters are fabricated via a simple and scalable solution blow-spinning method.These air filters show excellent thermal stability at high temperature up to 420℃.They exhibit a filtration efficiency as high as 99.73%at ambient temperature and over 97%at 300℃.In addition,a field test shows that the filters remove>97%of PM from the car exhaust fumes.Hence,the blow-spun PI nanofibrous membranes combined with the facile preparation strategy have great potential in high temperature air filtration fields and other similar applications such as water purification and protein separation.Ziwei Li Jianan Song Yuanzheng Long Chao Jia Zhenglian Liu Lei Li Cheng Yang Junchen Liu Sen Lin Haiyang Wang Yibo Liu Minghao Fang Hui Wu 2020Nano Research2020,13,3:6
2Optical conductivity-based ultrasensitive mid-infrared biosensing on a hybrid metasurface显示文摘Optical devices are highly attractive for biosensing as they can not only enable quantitative measurements of analytes but also provide information on molecular structures.Unfortunately,typical refractive index-based optical sensors do not have sufficient sensitivity to probe the binding of low-molecular-weight analytes.Non-optical devices such as field-effect transistors can be more sensitive but do not offer some of the significant features of optical devices,particularly molecular fingerprinting.We present optical conductivity-based mid-infrared(mid-IR)biosensors that allow for sensitive and quantitative measurements of low-molecular-weight analytes as well as the enhancement of spectral fingerprints.The sensors employ a hybrid metasurface consisting of monolayer graphene and metallic nano-antennas and combine individual advantages of plasmonic,electronic and spectroscopic approaches.First,the hybrid metasurface sensors can optically detect target molecule-induced carrier doping to graphene,allowing highly sensitive detection of low-molecular-weight analytes despite their small sizes.Second,the resonance shifts caused by changes in graphene optical conductivity is a well-defined function of graphene carrier density,thereby allowing for quantification of the binding of molecules.Third,the sensor performance is highly stable and consistent thanks to its insensitivity to graphene carrier mobility degradation.Finally,the sensors can also act as substrates for surfaceenhanced infrared spectroscopy.We demonstrated the measurement of monolayers of sub-nanometer-sized molecules or particles and affinity binding-based quantitative detection of glucose down to 200 pM(36 pg/mL).We also demonstrated enhanced fingerprinting of minute quantities of glucose and polymer molecules.Yibo Zhu Zhaoyi Li Zhuang Hao Christopher DiMarco Panita Maturavongsadit Yufeng Hao Ming Lu Aaron Stein Qian Wang James Hone Nanfang Yu Qiao Lin 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:6
3Sieving carbons promise practical anodes with extensible low-potential plateaus for sodium batteries显示文摘Non-graphitic carbons are promising anode candidates for sodium-ion batteries,while their variable and complicated microstructure severely limits the rational design of high-energy carbon anodes that could accelerate the commercialization of sodium-ion batteries,as is the case for graphite in lithium-ion batteries.Here,we propose sieving carbons,featuring highly tunable nanopores with tightened pore entrances,as high-energy anodes with extensible and reversible low-potential plateaus(<0.1 V).It is shown that the tightened pore entrance blocks the formation of the solid electrolyte interphase inside the nanopores and enables sodium clustering to produce the plateau.Theoretical and spectroscopic studies also show that creating a larger area of sodiophilic pore surface leads to an almost linearly increased number of sodium clusters,and controlling the pore body diameter guarantees the reversibility of sodium cluster formation,producing a sieving carbon anode with a record-high plateau capacity of 400 mAh g.More excitingly,this approach to preparing sieving carbons has the potential to be scalable for modifying different commercial porous carbons.Qi Li Xiangsi Liu Ying Tao Jianxing Huang Jun Zhang Chunpeng Yang Yibo Zhang Siwei Zhang Yiran Jia Qiaowei Lin Yuxuan Xiang Jun Cheng Wei Lv Feiyu Kang Yong Yang Quan-Hong Yang 2022National Science Review2022,9,8:3
4Spatially defined single-cell transcriptional profiling characterizes diverse chondrocyte subtypes and nucleus pulposus progenitors in human intervertebral discs显示文摘A comprehensive understanding of the cellular heterogeneity and molecular mechanisms underlying the development,homeostasis,and disease of human intervertebral disks(IVDs)remains challenging.Here,the transcriptomic landscape of 108108 IVD cells was mapped using single-cell RNA sequencing of three main compartments from young and adult healthy IVDs,including the nucleus pulposus(NP),annulus fibrosus,and cartilage endplate(CEP).The chondrocyte subclusters were classified based on their potential regulatory,homeostatic,and effector functions in extracellular matrix(ECM)homeostasis.Notably,in the NP,a PROCR+resident progenitor population showed enriched colony-forming unit-fibroblast(CFU-F)activity and trilineage differentiation capacity.Finally,intercellular crosstalk based on signaling network analysis uncovered that the PDGF and TGF-βcascades are important cues in the NP microenvironment.In conclusion,a single-cell transcriptomic atlas that resolves spatially regulated cellular heterogeneity together with the critical signaling that underlies homeostasis will help to establish new therapeutic strategies for IVD degeneration in the clinic.Yibo Gan Jian He Jun Zhu Zhengyang Xu Zhong Wang Jing Yan Ou Hu Zhijie Bai Lin Chen Yangli Xie Min Jin Shuo Huang Bing Liu Peng Liu 2021Bone Research2021,9,3:3
5Imaging bacteriorhodopsin-like molecules of claret-membranes from Tibet halobacteria xz515 by atomic force microscope显示文摘Halobacteria H.sp.xz 515 was isolated from a salt lake in Tibet. Although proton release-and-uptake across claret membrane is in reverse order compared to bacteri-orhodopsin in purple membrane from Halobacterium Sali-narum, and its efficiency of proton pump is much lower, AFM image shows that the molecules are still arranged in a two-dimensional hexagonal lattice of trimers. Primary structure of C- to G-helix of the archaerhodopsin shows that it has only 56% homology with bacteriorhodopsin. But the interactive amino acid residues at the interface between B-and D-helixes are conserved. 6Cholesterol homeostasis regulated by ABCA1 is critical for retinal ganglion cell survival显示文摘Genome-wide association studies have suggested a link between primary open-angle glaucoma and the function of ABCA1.ABCA1 is a key regulator of cholesterol efflux and the biogenesis of high-density lipoprotein(HDL) particles. Here, we showed that the POAG risk allele near ABCA1 attenuated ABCA1 expression in cultured cells. Consistently, POAG patients exhibited lower ABCA1 expression, reduced HDL, and higher cholesterol in white blood cells. Ablation of Abca1 in mice failed to form HDL, leading to elevated cholesterol levels in the retina. Counting retinal ganglion cells(RGCs) by using an artificial intelligence(AI) program revealed that Abca1-deficient mice progressively lost RGCs with age. Single-cell RNA sequencing(scRNA-seq) revealed aberrant oxidative phosphorylation in the Abca1-/-retina, as well as activation of the mTORC1 signaling pathway and suppression of autophagy. Treatment of Abca1-/-mice using atorvastatin reduced the cholesterol level in the retina,thereby improving metabolism and protecting RGCs from death. Collectively, we show that lower ABCA1 expression and lower HDL are risk factors for POAG. Accumulated cholesterol in the Abca1-/-retina causes profound aberrant metabolism, leading to a POAG-like phenotype that can be prevented by atorvastatin. 9Noninvasive Ultrasound Stimulation of Ventral Tegmental Area Induces Reanimation from General Anaesthesia in Mice显示文摘Evidence in animals suggests that deep brain stimulation or optogenetics can be used for recovery from disorders of consciousness(DOC).However,these treatments require invasive procedures.This report presents a noninvasive strategy to stimulate central nervous system neurons selectively for recovery from DOC in mice.Through the delivery of ultrasound energy to the ventral tegmental area,mice were aroused from an unconscious,anaesthetized state in this study,and this process was controlled by adjusting the ultrasound parameters.The mice in the sham group under isoflurane-induced,continuous,steady-state general anaesthesia did not regain their righting reflex.On insonation,the emergence time from inhaled isoflurane anaesthesia decreased(sham.13.63±0.53 min,ultrasound.1.5±0.19 min,p<0.001).Further,the induction time(sham.12.0±0.6 min,ultrasound.17.88±0.64 min,p<0.001)and the concentration for 50%of the maximal effect(EC50)of isoflurane(sham.0.6%,ultrasound.0.7%)increased.In addition,ultrasound stimulation reduced the recovery time in mice with traumatic brain injury(sham.30.38±1.9 min,ultrasound.7.38±1.02 min,p<0.01).This noninvasive strategy could be used on demand to promote emergence from DOC and may be a potential treatment for such disorders.Tianyuan Bian Wen Meng Meihong Qiu Zhigang Zhong Zhengrong Lin Junjie Zou Yibo Wang Xiaowei Huang Lisheng Xu Tifei Yuan Zhili Huang Lili Niu Long Meng Hairong Zheng 2021Research2021,,1:2
10Characterization of SARS-CoV-2 worldwide transmission based on evolutionary dynamics and specific viral mutations in the spike protein显示文摘Background:The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2)is pandemic.However,the origins and global transmission pattern of SARS-CoV-2 remain largely unknown.We aimed to characterize the origination and transmission of SARS-CoV-2 based on evolutionary dynamics.Methods:Using the full-length sequences of SARS-CoV-2 with intact geographic,demographic,and temporal information worldwide from the GISAID database during 26 December 2019 and 30 November 2020,we constructed the transmission tree to depict the evolutionary process by the R package'outbreaker'.The affinity of the mutated receptor-binding region of the spike protein to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2)was predicted using mCSM-PPI2 software.Viral infectivity and antigenicity were tested in ACE2-transfected HEK293T cells by pseudovirus transfection and neutralizing antibody test.Results:From 26 December 2019 to 8 March 2020,early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic,SARS-CoV-2 strains identified worldwide were mainly composed of three clusters:the Europe-based cluster including two USA-based subclusters;the Asia-based cluster including isolates in China,Japan,the USA,Singapore,Australia,Malaysia,and Italy;and the USA-based cluster.The SARS-CoV-2 strains identified in the USA formed four independent clades while those identified in China formed one clade.After 8 March 2020,the clusters of SARS-CoV-2 strains tended to be independent and became'pure'in each of the major countries.Twenty-two of 60 mutations in the receptor-binding domain of the spike protein were predicted to increase the binding affinity of SARS-CoV-2 to ACE2.Of all predicted mutants,the number of E484K was the largest one with 86585 sequences,followed by S477N with 55442 sequences worldwide.In more than ten countries,the frequencies of the isolates with E484K and S477N increased significantly.V367F and N354D mutations increased the infectivity of SARS-CoV-2 pseudoviruses(P<0.001).SARS-CoV-2 with V367F was more sensitive to the S1-targeting neutralizing antibody than the wild-type counterpart(P<0.001).Conclusions:SARS-CoV-2 strains might have originated in several countries simultaneously under certain evolutionary pressure.Travel restrictions might cause location-specific SARS-CoV-2 clustering.The SARS-CoV-2 evolution appears to facilitate its transmission via altering the affinity to ACE2 or immune evasion.Jiluo Liu Xi Chen Yan Liu Jiansheng Lin Jiaying Shen Hongwei Zhang Jianhua Yin Rui Pu Yibo Ding Guangwen Cao 2021Infectious Diseases of Poverty2021,10,4:2
11A joint call for actions to advance taxonomy in China显示文摘Taxonomy plays an important role in understanding the origin, evolution, and ecological functionality of biodiversity. There are large number of unknown species yet to be described by taxonomists, which together with their ecosystem services cannot be effectively protected prior to description. Despite this, taxonomy has been increasingly underrated insufficient funds and permanent positions to retain young talents. Further, the impact factordriven evaluation systems in China exacerbate this downward trend, so alternative evaluation metrics are urgently necessary. When the current generation of outstanding taxonomists retires,there will be too few remaining taxonomists left to train the next generation. 14A Preliminary Study on Silver Isotopic Composition in Polymetallic Ore Deposits in Eastern China显示文摘A preliminary survey of silver isotopic composition in four polymetallic ores in eastern China shows a larger variation inδ^(109)Ag from-0.014‰to+0.983‰,which is within the total ranges for the entire respective ore deposit types worldwide.The diversity of silver isotopic compositions in oredeposits reported here and previous studies seemed to preclude simple isotopic links to particular sources,but reflected the silver isotope fractionation in transport-and deposit-related processes instead.Theδ^(109)Ag values in supergene samples from the Qixiashan Pb-Zn-Ag polymetallic deposit are more positive,in consistent with the statistical δ^(109)Ag distribution from-0.4‰to+2.2‰in 36 pieces of supergene ore samples around the World,which reflects the diverse controls on silver isotope fractionation from the first-order thermodynamic effect,reduction-mediated reaction,remobilization of silver with surficial low-temperature weathering processes.The hypogene samples in Dazhuangzi orogenic Au-Ag ore deposit,have δ^(109)Ag values close to 0,which implies that equilibrium partitioning associated with metal sources at the high-temperature does not result in a resolvable difference in silver isotopic compositions.By contrast,the hypogene samples which are dominated by pyrite without visible silver minerals (i.e.,skarn iron ore deposit in Edongnan) have shown the largest variation range of δ^(109)Ag,followed by that from the porphyry copper ore in Zijinshan.It could be concluded that the surface adsorption and/or lattice substitution are important factors to control Ag isotope fractionation in oreforming processes,especially for skarn deposits with only pyrite.The perspective of silver isotope shows great potentials to understand the processes that lead to the concentrations of metals to economic levels and to constrain the physicochemical conditions during ore-mineralization in metallic ore-deposits.Ge Dong Hai-Zhen Wei Yuanfeng Zhu Xi Liu Qi Guo Wei Pu Yibo Lin Junlin Wang 2022Journal of Earth Science2022,33,1:1

19Coupling virio-and bacterioplankton populations with environmental variable changes in the Bohai Sea显示文摘Uncovering the role of environmental factors and finding critical factors which harbor significant fractions in governing microbial communities remain key questions in coastal marine systems.To detect the interactions between environmental factors and distributions of virio-and bacterioplankton in trophic coastal areas,we used flow cytometry to investigate the abundance of virio-and bacterioplankton covering 31 stations in the Bohai Sea of China.Our results suggested that the average abundance of total virus(TV)in winter(~2.29×108 particles/mL)was slightly lower than in summer(~3.83×108 particles/mL).The mean total bacterial abundance(TB)was much lower in winter(~2.54×107 particles/mL)than in summer(~5.43×107 particles/mL).Correlation analysis via redundancy analysis(RDA)and network analysis among virioplankton,bacterioplankton and environmental factors revealed that the abundances of viral and bacterial subpopulations depend on environmental factors.In winter,only temperature significantly influenced the abundances of virio-and bacterioplankton.In summer,in addition to temperature,both salinity and nutrient(SiO2)had a remarkable impact on the distribution of virioand bacterioplankton.Our results showed a clear seasonal and trophic pattern throughout the whole water system,which revealed that temperature and eutrophication may play crucial roles in microbial distribution pattern.Caixia Wang Lin Wu Yibo Wang James S.Paterson James G.Mitchell Xiaoke Hu 2020Acta Oceanologica Sinica2020,39,6:0
