| 1 | Functional traits of tree species with phylogenetic signal co-vary with environmental niches in two large forest dynamics plots显示文摘Aims While using phylogenetic and functional approaches to test the mechanisms of community assembly,functional traits often act as the proxy of niches.However,there is little detailed knowledge regarding the correlation between functional traits of tree species and their niches in local communities.We suggest that the co-varying correlation between functional traits and niches should be the premise for using phylogenetic and functional approaches to test mechanisms of community assembly.Using functional traits,phylogenetic and environmental data,this study aims to answer the questions:(i)within local communities,do functional traits of co-occurring species covary with their environmental niches at the species level?and(ii)what is the key ecological process underlying community assembly in Xishuangbanna and Ailaoshan forest dynamic plots(FDPs)?Methods We measured seven functional traits of 229 and 36 common species in Xishuangbanna and Ailaoshan FDPs in tropical and subtropical China,respectively.We also quantified the environmental niches for these species based on conditional probability.We then analyzed the correlations between functional traits and environmental niches using phylogenetic independent contrasts.After examining phylogenetic signals of functional traits using Pagel’sλ,we quantified the phylogenetic and functional dispersion along environmental gradients within local tree communities.Important Findings For target species,functional traits do co-vary with environmental niches at the species level in both of the FDPs,supporting that functional traits can be used as a proxy for local-scale environmental niches.Functional traits show significant phylogenetic signals in both of the FDPs.We found that the phylogenetic and functional dispersion were significantly clustered along topographical gradients in the Ailaoshan FDP but overdispersion in the Xishuangbanna FDP.These patterns of phylogenetic and functional dispersion suggest that environmental filtering plays a key role in structuring local tree assemblages in Ailaoshan FDP,while competition exclusion plays a key role in Xishuangbanna FDP. | Jie Yang Xiuqin Ci Mengmeng Lu Guocheng Zhang Min Cao Jie Li Luxiang Lin | 2014 | Journal of Plant Ecology2014,7,2: | 16 |
| 2 | Response and adaptation to the accumulation and distribution of photosynthetic product in peanut under salt stress显示文摘To clarify the response and adaptability of peanut under salt stress,Huayu 25 was used as the material,and non-salt stress(CK),0.15% salt stress(S1),and 0.3% salt stress(S2) were applied as three treatments.The study analysed the effects of salt stress on photosynthetic characteristics,photosynthetic substances accumulation and distribution as well as the ecological adaptability of peanuts.The results showed that net photosynthetic rate(Pn),SPAD value,leaf area,and peanut yield were reduced under salt stress.Pn in CK was 13.71 and 28.72% higher than that in S1 and S2 at the 50 th day after planting,respectively.At the same growth period,the SPAD value among treatments was ranked as follows: CK>S1>S2.The 100-pod mass,100-kernel mass,kernel rate to pod,and pod mass per plant were reduced under salt stress,and the trend was CK>S1>S2.The distribution proportion of dry matter in different organs of peanut plant was changed to adapt to such stress.Roots under salt stress intensively distributed in a 0-40 cm soil layer for salt resistance.Dry mass proportion in stems and pods increased during the vegetative stage and early period of reproductive stage,respectively.The maximum growth rates of the pod volume,pod dry weight,and seed kernel dry weight all declined,and the pod and kernel volume at harvest were reduced,improving the seed plumpness under salt stress.This finding could be useful in growing peanut in saline soil. | ZHANG Guan-chu DAI Liang-xiang DING Hong CI Dun-wei NING Tang-yuan YANG Ji-shun ZHAO Xin-hua YU Hai-qiu ZHANG Zhi-meng | 2020 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2020,19,3: | 7 |
| 3 | Factors related to improved American Spinal Injury Association grade of acute traumatic spinal cord injury显示文摘BACKGROUND Acute traumatic spinal cord injury(ATSCI)usually results in disability,yet data on contemporary national trends of ATSCI incidence are limited.AIM To provide a systematic and basic theoretical basis for improving the treatment of acute spinal cord injury.METHODS Data from the Peking University Third Hospital Inpatient Sample databases were analyzed.A total of 304 patients with ATSCI were included from 2012 to 2017.The epidemiological data,treatment,complications and clinical outcomes of these patients were reviewed.RESULTS Of the 304 patients,257(84.5%)were male,and 75%of the patients were 55 years old or younger.135 patients had improved follow-up American Spinal Injury Association(ASIA)grades(44.4%).Only 14 patients with ASIA grade A improved.A statistically significant difference in prognosis between patients who underwent surgery within 72 h and those who underwent surgery after 72 h was observed(P<0.05).Surgery within 72 h resulted in better prognosis.The Steroid group and the Non-Steroid group showed a significant difference in outcome among patients with ASIA grades A and B(P<0.05).Patients with pneumonia had a poorer prognosis than patients without pneumonia(P<0.05).Surgery within 72 h resulted in better prognosis.CONCLUSION This study found that there was no significant difference in hospitalization time and prognosis between the Steroid group and the Non-Steroid group,but the patients with severe spinal cord injury(ASIA grades A and B)who underwent surgery combined with steroid therapy had a better prognosis than those who underwent surgery alone.The disastrous consequences of ATSCI and lack of consensus on the management strategy are obvious.Further improvements in treatment planns are needed in order to obtain more reliable functional outcomes. | Ci Tian Yang Lv Shu Li Dai-Dai Wang Yi Bai Fang Zhou Qing-Bian Ma | 2020 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2020,8,20: | 5 |
| 4 | Pb, Cu botanogeochemical anomalies and toxic effects on plant cells in Pb-Zn (Sn) ore fields, Northeast Guangxi Autonomous Region, China显示文摘In the Lingchuan-Daoping and Xinglu Pb-Zn ore fields in northern and eastern Guangxi Autonomous Region, Pb, Cu botanogeochemical anomalies may be ascribed to the excessive amounts of Pb and Cu taken up by the root system of plants, such as China fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata Lamb. Hook), mason pine (Pinus massoniana Lamb.) and bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum var. latiusculum). Under transmission electron microscope (TEM), the excess Pb, Cu in the leaf cells of the plants are present as high electron-density substances, which were precipitated in the leaf cells, causing phytotoxic effects by deforming and injuring cellular tissues. The sorts of toxic elements accumulating in the leaf cells are consistent with those of the botanogeochemically anomalous elements in the polluted soil where the plants grow. | 5 | Cardiac arrhythmias and cardiac arrest related to mushroom poisoning: A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND Mushroom exposure is a global health issue.The manifestations of mushroom poisoning (MP) may vary.Some species have been reported as rhabdomyolytic,hallucinogenic,or gastrointestinal poisons.Critical or even fatal MPs are mostly attributable to Amanita phalloides,with the development of severe liver or renal failure.Myocardial injury and even cases mimicking ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) have been previously reported,while cardiac arrhythmia or cardiac arrest is not commonly seen.CASE SUMMARY We report a 68-year-old woman with MP who suffered from delirium,seizure,long QT syndrome on electrocardiogram (ECG),severe cardiac arrhythmias of multiple origins,and cardiac arrest.She was intubated and put on blood perfusion.Her kidney and liver functions were intact;creatine kinase-MB was mildly elevated,and then fell within normal range during her hospital stay.We sent the mushrooms she left for translation elongation factor subunit 1α,ribosomal RNA gene sequence,and internal transcribed spacer sequence analyses.There were four kinds of mushrooms identified,two of which were found to be toxic.CONCLUSION This is the first time that we found cardiac toxicity caused by Panaeolus subbalteatus and Conocybe lactea,which were believed to be toxic to the liver,kidney,and brain.We suggest that intensive monitoring and ECG follow-up are essential to diagnose prolonged QT interval and different forms of tachycardia in MP patients,even without the development of severe liver or renal failure.The mechanisms need to be further investigated and clarified based on animal experiments and molecular signal pathways. | Shu Li Qing-Bian Ma Ci Tian Hong-Xia Ge Yang Liang Zhi-Guo Guo Cheng-Duo Zhang Bei Yao Jia-Ning Geng Fran Riley | 2019 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2019,7,16: | 4 |
| 6 | Contrasting effects of space and environment on functional and phylogenetic dissimilarity in a tropical forest显示文摘Aims The evolutionary history and functional traits of species can illumi-nate ecological processes supporting coexistence in diverse forest communities.However,little has been done in decoupling the rela-tive importance of these mechanisms on the turnover of phylogenetic and functional characteristics across life stages and spatial scales.Therefore,this study aims to estimate the contribution of environment and dispersal on the turnover of phylogenetic and functional diversity across life stages and spatial scales,in order to build a coherent pic-ture of the processes responsible for species coexistence.Methods We conducted the study in Xishuangbanna Forest Dynamics Plot in Yunnan Province,southwest China.We used four different spatial point process models to estimate the relative importance of disper-sal limitation and environmental filtering.The functional traits and phylogenetic relationships of all individual trees were incorporated in the analyses to generate measures of dissimilarity in terms of pair-wise and nearest-neighbor phylogenetic and functional characteris-tics across life stages and spatial scales.Important Findings We found non-random patterns of phylogenetic and functional turnover across life stages and spatial scales.Environmental filtering structured pairwise phylogenetic and functional beta diversity across spatial scales,while dispersal limitation alone,and in combination with environment filtering,shaped nearest neighbor phylogenetic and functional beta diversity.The relative importance of dispersal limitation and environmental filtering appeared to change with life stage but not with spatial scale.Our findings suggest that phylogenetic and functional beta diversity help to reveal the ecological processes responsible for evolu-tionary and functional assembly and highlight the importance of using a range of different metrics to gain full insights into these processes. | Mengesha Asefa Calum Brown Min Cao Guocheng Zhang Xiuqin Ci Liqing Sha Jie Li Luxiang Lin Jie Yang | 2019 | Journal of Plant Ecology2019,12,2: | 3 |
| 7 | Insights into the formation of secondary organic carbon in the summertime in urban Shanghai显示文摘To investigate formation mechanisms of secondary organic carbon(SOC) in Eastern China,measurements were conducted in an urban site in Shanghai in the summer of 2015. A period of high O_3 concentrations(daily peak > 120 ppb) was observed, during which daily maximum SOC concentrations exceeding 9.0 μg/(C·m^3). Diurnal variations of SOC concentration and SOC/organic carbon(OC) ratio exhibited both daytime and nighttime peaks. The SOC concentrations correlated well with O_x(= O_3+ NO_2) and relative humidity in the daytime and nighttime, respectively, suggesting that secondary organic aerosol formation in Shanghai is driven by both photochemical production and aqueous phase reactions. Single particle mass spectrometry was used to examine the formation pathways of SOC. Along with the daytime increase of SOC, the number fraction of elemental carbon(EC) particles coated with OC quickly increased from 38.1% to 61.9% in the size range of 250–2000 nm, which was likely due to gas-to-particle partitioning of photochemically generated semi-volatile organic compounds onto EC particles. In the nighttime, particles rich in OC components were highly hygroscopic, and number fraction of these particles correlated well with relative humidity and SOC/OC nocturnal peaks. Meanwhile, as an aqueous-phase SOC tracer, particles that contained oxalate-Fe(III) complex also peaked at night. These observations suggested that aqueous-phase processes had an important contribution to the SOC nighttime formation. | 13 | Exclusion effects on vegetation characteristics and their correlation to soil factors in the semi-arid rangeland of Mu Us Sandland,China显示文摘Exclusion has been applied as a main measure for re-vegetation all over the world.This paper,by comparing the results of year-round exclusion,seasonal exclusion,and non-exclusion,quantified the vegetation variations under three different exclusion measures and their correlation to soil factors.The analysis results for community species component and plant diversity using multi-response permutation procedures(MRPPs)showed that exclusion did change the species com ponent and increase plant diversity remarkably,while the period of exclusion had no significant influence on these two community features.The indicator species analysis and calculation of similarity indices indicated that community for year-round exclusion were becoming xerophytization and unpalatability,and showed highly spatial heterogeneity of plant species distribution,whereas community for seasonal exclusion was under stable non-equilibrium condition.Detrended correspondence analysis(DCA)and detrend canonical correspondence analysis(DCCA)results of relationship between plant species and soil variables demonstrated that soil moisture was a controlling factor for plant species component,microbiotic soil crust cover,soil organic matter,and soil bulk density had significant effects on soil moisture,among which microbiotic soil crust was a leading factor owing to its limitation to rainfall infiltration on the one hand,and its constraints to entrance of herbaceous seeds into soil or to germination of soil seeds on the other hand.As a result of long-term removal of animal grazing,crust kept intact in year-round exclusion community,which was a main reason of community xerophytization.It was also obvious from ordination results that some important environmental factors,such as tempo-spatial change of rainfall and corresponding tempo-spatial change of soil moisture,were neglected during direct gradient analysis.In addition,biodiversity was close related to soil nutrients as well as to soil moisture condition(soil water content and crust cover),and it had positive relation to available N,and negative relation to available P.Higher soil N had advantage to non-leguminous plants growth on nutrition-poor sand land definitely.The impact of P to community component was unclear and should be studied from plant physiology.Further researches on nonequilibrium theory in semi-arid rangeland will provide a sci-entific and flexible animal development paradigm for being implementing livestock fen-raising and grazing-forbidden policies in China. | YANG Xiaohui ZHANG Kebin HOU Ruiping CI Longjun | 2007 | Frontiers in Biology2007,2,2: | 1 |

| 16 | Several miRNAs derived from serum extracellular vesicles are potential biomarkers for early diagnosis and progression of Parkinson’s disease显示文摘Background:Blood-based test for predicting disease progression and early diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease(PD)is an unmet need in the clinic.The profiles of microRNAs(miRNAs)are regarded as potential diagnostic biomarkers for human diseases,whereas miRNAs in the periphery are susceptible to the influence of various components.MiRNAs enriched in serum extracellular vesicles(EVs)have demonstrated disease-specific advantages in diagnosis due to their high abundance,stability and resistance to degradation.This study was aimed to screen differentially expressed EV-derived miRNAs between healthy controls and PD patients to aid in diagnosis of PD.Methods:A total of 31 healthy controls and 72 patients with a diagnosis of PD at different Hoehn and Yahr stages in Tangdu Hospital were included.In total,185 differentially expressed miRNAs were obtained through RNA sequencing of serum EVs as well as edgeR and t-test analyses.Subsequently,the weighted gene co-expression network analysis(WGCNA)was utilized to identify the commonly expressed miRNAs in all stages of PD by constructing connections between modules,and specifically expressed miRNAs in each stage of PD by functional enrichment analysis.After aligning these miRNAs with PD-related miRNAs in Human miRNA Disease Database,the screened miRNAs were further validated by receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR)using peripheral blood EVs from 40 more participants.Results:WGCNA showed that 4 miRNAs were commonly associated with all stages of PD and 13 miRNAs were specifically associated with different stages of PD.Of the 17 obtained miRNAs,7 were validated by ROC curve analysis and 7 were verified in 40 more participants by qRT-PCR.Six miRNAs were verified by both methods,which included 2 miRNAs that were commonly expressed in all stages of PD and 4 miRNAs that were specifically expressed in different stages of PD.Conclusions:The 6 serum EV-derived miRNAs,hsa-miR-374a-5p,hsa-miR-374b-5p,hsa-miR-199a-3p,hsa-miR-28-5p,hsa-miR-22-5p and hsa-miR-151a-5p,may potentially be used as biomarkers for PD progression and for early diagnosis of PD in populations. | Shulei He Lu Huang Ci Shao Tiejian Nie Li Xia Bozhou Cui Fangfang Lu Lin Zhu Bolin Chen Qian Yang | 2021 | Translational Neurodegeneration2021,10,3: | 1 |
