| 1 | Influence of ginsenoside Rg1, a panaxatriol saponin from Panax notoginseng, on renal fibrosis in rats with unilateral ureteral obstruction显示文摘Total saponins of Panax notoginseng (PNS) have been shown to ameliorate renal interstitial fibrosis. Ginsenoside Rg1, a panaxatriol saponin, is one of the major active molecules from PNS. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of ginsenoside Rg1 on renal fibrosis in rats with unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO). The rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: sham-operation (n=15), UUO (n=15) and UUO with ginsenoside Rg1 treatment (n=15, 50 mg per kg body weight, intraperito- neally (i.p.) injected). The rats were sacrificed on Days 7 and 14 after the surgery. Histological examination demonstrated that ginsenoside Rg1 significantly inhibited interstitial fibrosis including tubular injury as well as collagen deposition. α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) and E-cadherin are two markers of tubular epithelial-myofibroblast transition (TEMT). Interestingly, ginsenoside Rg1 notably decreased α-SMA expression and simultaneously enhanced E-cadherin expression. The messenger RNA (mRNA) of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), a key mediator to regulate TEMT, in the obstructed kidney increased dra- matically, but was found to decrease significantly after administration of ginsenoside Rg1. Further study showed that ginsenoside Rg1 considerably decreased the levels of both active TGF-β1 and phosphorylated Smad2 (pSmad2). Moreover, ginsenoside Rg1 substantially suppressed the expression of thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1), a cytokine which can promote the transcription of TGF-β1 mRNA and the activation of latent TGF-β1. These results suggest that ginsenoside Rg1 inhibits renal interstitial fibrosis in rats with UUO. | 2 | Size distribution of chemical elements and their source apportionment in ambient coarse, fine, and ultrafine particles in Shanghai urban summer atmosphere显示文摘Ambient coarse particles (diameter 1.8-10 μm), fine particles (diameter 0.1-1.8 μm), and ultrafine particles (diameter < 0.1 μm) in the atmosphere of the city of Shanghai were sampled during the summer of 2008 (from Aug 27 to Sep 08). Microscopic characterization of the particles was investigated by scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDX). Mass concentrations of Si, P, S, Cl, K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Br, Rb, Sr, and Pb in the size-resolved particles were quantified by using synchrotron radiation X-ray fluorescence (SRXRF). Source apportionment of the chemical elements was analyzed by means of an enrichment factor method. Our results showed that the average mass concentrations of coarse particles, fine particles and ultrafine particles in the summer air were 9.38 ± 2.18, 8.82 ± 3.52, and 2.02 ± 0.41 μg/m3, respectively. The mass percentage of the fine particles accounted for 51.47% in the total mass of PM10, indicating that fine particles are the major component in the Shanghai ambient particles. SEM/EDX results showed that the coarse particles were dominated by minerals, fine particles by soot aggregates and fly ashes, and ultrafine particles by soot particles and unidentified particles. SRXRF results demonstrated that crustal elements were mainly distributed in the coarse particles, while heavy metals were in higher proportions in the fine particles. Source apportionment revealed that Si, K, Ca, Fe, Mn, Rb, and Sr were from crustal sources, and S, Cl, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Br, and Pb from anthropogenic sources. | 3 | Mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of selective laser melted 316L stainless steel after different heat treatment processes显示文摘Irregular grains, high interfacial stresses and anisotropic properties widely exist in 3D-printed metallic materials, and this paper investigated the effects of heat treatment on the microstructural, mechanical and corrosion properties of 316 L stainless steel fabricated by selective laser melting. Sub-grains and low-angle boundaries exist in the as-received selective laser melted(SLMed) 316 L stainless steel. After heat treatment at 1050℃, the sub-grains and low-angle boundaries changed slightly, and the stress state and strength decreased to some extent due to the decrease of dislocation density. After heat treatment at 1200℃, the grains became uniform, and the dislocation cells vanished, which led to a sharp decline in the hardness and strength. | 4 | Investigation of quality of life in patients with lung cancer by the EORTC QLQ-C30(V3.0) Chinese version显示文摘Objective To explore quality of life(QOL) and its influencing factors in patients with lung cancer.Methods A QOL questionnaire(European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer [EORTC] Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30 [QLQ-C30] Chinese version) was used with 138 patients with lung cancer participating in the study. A statistical description of the general characteristics of the patients with lung cancer was performed. The patients' QLQ-C30 scores were compared with the reference value for each dimension. To analyze the influence of QOL in different genders, age groups, and cancer stages, ttests and rank sum tests were used to compare the differences in QOL using a 5% significance level. Results The QLQ-C30 function scores in PF(physical functioning), EF(emotional functioning), SF(social functioning), and GH(global functioning), and symptom scales in NV(nausea and vomiting), DY(dyspnea), SL(insomnia), and FI(financial difficulties) were significantly different(P < 0.05) in comparison to the reference values. Female patients were worse than males(P < 0.05) in EF, NV, and DI(diarrhea). The later the stage of lung cancer, the worse the quality of life became; the functional scales in RF(role functioning), EF, CF, SF, and GH, and symptom scales in PA(pain), AP(appetite), and SL differences were statistically significant(P < 0.05). | 5 | High levels of serum interleukin-6 increase mortality of hepatitis B virus-associated acute-on-chronic liver failure显示文摘BACKGROUND Patients with hepatitis B virus-associated acute-on-chronic liver failure(HBVACLF)present a complex and poor prognosis.Systemic inflammation plays an important role in its pathogenesis,and interleukin-6(IL-6)as a pro-inflammatory cytokine is related with severe liver impairment and also plays a role in promoting liver regeneration.Whether serum IL-6 influences HBV-ACLF prognosis has not been studied.AIM To determine the impact of serum IL-6 on outcome of patients with HBV-ACLF.METHODS We performed a retrospective study of 412 HBV-ACLF patients.The findings were analyzed with regard to mortality and the serum IL-6 level at baseline,as well as dynamic changes of serum IL-6 within 4 wk.RESULTS The serum IL-6 level was associated with mortality.Within 4 wk,deceased patients had significantly higher levels of IL-6 at baseline than surviving patients[17.9(7.3-57.6)vs 10.4(4.7-22.3),P=0.011].Patients with high IL-6 levels(>11.8 pg/mL)had a higher mortality within 4 wk than those with low IL-6 levels(≤11.8 pg/mL)(24.2%vs 13.2%,P=0.004).The odds ratios calculated using univariate and multivariate logistic regression were 2.10(95%confidence interval[CI]:1.26-3.51,P=0.005)and 2.11(95%CI:1.15-3.90,P=0.017),respectively.The mortality between weeks 5 and 8 in patients with high IL-6 levels at 4 wk was 15.0%,which was significantly higher than the 6.6%mortality rate in patients with low IL-6 levels at 4 wk(hazard ratio=2.39,95%CI:1.05-5.41,P=0.037).The mortality was 5.0%in patients with high IL-6 levels at baseline and low IL-6 levels at 4 wk,7.5%in patients with low IL-6 levels both at baseline and at 4 wk,11.5%in patients with low IL-6 levels at baseline and high IL-6 levels at 4 wk,and 16.7%in patients with high IL-6 levels both at baseline and at 4 wk.The increasing trend of the mortality rate with the dynamic changes of IL-6 was significant(P for trend=0.023).CONCLUSION A high level of serum IL-6 is an independent risk factor for mortality in patients with HBV-ACLF.Furthermore,a sustained high level or dynamic elevated level of serum IL-6 indicates a higher mortality. | Chao Zhou Ning Zhang Ting-Ting He Yao Wang Li-Fu Wang Yong-Qiang Sun Jing Jing Jing-Jing Zhang Shuang-Nan Fu Xuan Wang Xiao-Xiao Liang Xin Li Man Gong Jun Li | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,30: | 15 |

| 8 | Influence of Al-Ti-B addition on the microstructure and mechanical properties of A356 alloys显示文摘The mechanical properties (σb,σ0.2,and δ) and fracture behavior of tensile specimens of the refined A356 alloys were investigated as a function of the addition level of Al-Ti-B master alloy under both as-cast and T6 heat-treated conditions. The results show that as the addition level of Al-5Ti-1B master alloy increases from 0.1 wt.% to 5.0 wt.%,the mechanical properties of refined A356 alloys improve steadily and then decrease slightly under both as-cast and T6 heat-treated conditions. Also,they display excellent mechanical properties with σb = 231.30-258.30 MPa,σ0.2 =134.00-155.50 MPa,and δ = 8.5%-11.75% at T6 heat-treated state. The excellent mechanical properties of refined A356 alloys are ascribed to the formation of α-Al equiaxed dendrites,the improvement of eutectic structure from needle/plate-like to short-lathy/block-shaped,and the Mg2Si aging precipitation phase after T6 heat treatment. Both heat transfer and flux distribution characteristics of the nozzle sprays on the slab were considered, and the complicated boundary condi-tions, such as spray cooling, natural convection, thermal radiation as well as contact cooling of individual rolls were involved in the model. By using the calibrated caster dependent model factors, the calculated temperature and shell thickness accorded well with the measured. Furthermore, a dynamic secondary water cooling control system was also developed on the basis of a two-dimensional transient heat transfer model (named 'online model') and incremental PID control algorithm to reduce slab surface temperature fluctuation in unsteady state. | 16 | Comparable effects of Jiedu Granule, a compound Chinese herbal medicine, and sorafenib for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma: A prospective multicenter cohort study显示文摘Objective:Sorafenib has been extensively used for the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),and Chinese herbal medicine has also been used to manage advanced HCC.The present work evaluates the effectiveness and safety of Jiedu(JD)Granule,a compound of traditional Chinese herbal medicine,side-by-side with sorafenib for the treatment of advance HCC.Methods:Patients with advanced HCC receiving treatment with JD Granule or sorafenib were enrolled from December 2014 to March 2018.The primary endpoint was overall survival(OS).The secondary endpoints were progression-free survival(PFS)and safety.Propensity score matching(PSM)analysis was used to control for possible selection bias from the study group allocation process.Results:Of the 325 patients included,161 received JD Granule and 164 received sorafenib.No significant differences were found in OS or PFS among patients receiving JD Granule compared to sorafenib(P>0.05).Median OS of the two study groups was 6.83 months(95%confidence interval[CI]:5.83–9.47)in the group receiving JD Granule and 8 months(95%CI:6.67–9.80)in the group receiving sorafenib,with half-,1-and 2-year survival rates of 53.6%,31.2%and 13.2%vs 60.1%,35.5%and 14.2%,respectively.Even after PSM,the median survival time did not differ between the JD Granule group(9.03 months;95%CI:6.37–14.2)and the sorafenib group(7.93 months;95%CI:6.5–9.97),with comparable half-,1-and 2-year survival rates.The most common adverse events(AEs)were diarrhea(13.7%)and fatigue(5.6%)in the JD Granule group,and hand-foot skin reaction(46.3%)and diarrhea(36.6%)in the sorafenib group.The JD Granule was more cost-effective than sorafenib treatment for advanced HCC.Conclusion:Compared to sorafenib,JD Granule was more cost-effective and caused fewer AEs for the treatment of Chinese patients with advanced HCC. | He-tong Zhao Yong-bin Meng Xiao-feng Zhai Bin-bin Cheng Sha-sha Yu Man Yao Hui-xia Yin Xu-ying Wan Yun-ke Yang Hui Liu Feng Shen Chang-quan Ling | 2020 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2020,18,4: | 5 |

| 18 | Comprehensive model for a slag bath in electroslag remelting process with a current-conductive mould显示文摘A mathematical model was developed to describe the interaction of multiple physical fields in a slag bath during electroslag remelting (ESR) process with a current-conductive mould. The distributions of current density, magnetic induction intensity, electromagnetic force, Joule heating, fluid flow and temperature were simulated. The model was verified by temperature measurements during remelting 12CrMoVG steel with a slag of 50wt%-70wt% CaF2, 20wt%-30wt% CaO, 10wt%-20wt% Al2O3, and ≤10wt% SiO2 in a 600 mm diameter current-conductive mould. There is a good agreement between the calculated temperature results and the measured data in the slag bath. The calculated results show that the maximum values of current density, electromagnetic force and Joule heating are in the region between the corner electrodes and the conductivity element.
