| 1 | Ridge subduction and porphyry copper-gold mineralization:An overview显示文摘Many large porphyry Cu-Au deposits are connected to adakitic rocks known to be closely associated with ridge subduction. For example, there are several subducting ridges along the east Pacific margin, e.g., in Chile, Peru, and South America, most of which are associated with large porphyry Cu-Au deposits. In contrast, there are much fewer ridge subductions on the west Pacific margin and porphyry Cu-Au deposits are much less there, both in terms of tonnage and the number of deposits. Given that Cu and Au are moderately incompatible elements, oceanic crust has much higher Cu-Au concentrations than the mantle and the continental crust, and thus slab melts with their diagnostic adakitic chemistry have systematically higher Cu and Au, which is favorable for mineralization. Considering the geotherm of subducting slabs in the Phanerozoic, ridge subduction is the most favorable tectonic setting for this. Therefore, slab melting is the likely link in the spatial association between ridge subduction and Cu-Au deposits. | 2 | Further support for a Cretaceous age for the feathered-dinosaur beds of Liaoning,China:New ^(40)Ar/^(39)Ar dating of the Yixian and Tuchengzi Formations显示文摘We report new 40Ar/39Ar dating results ob-tained from total fusion and incremental-heating analyses of sanidine and biotite from three tuffs found interbedded within the fossil-bearing deposits of Liaoning, northeast China. The first is a new sample of the Bed 6 Sihetun tuff from the Yixian Formation, previously dated by our team as middle Early Cretaceous, and recently considered by Lo et al., partially reset due to metamorphism from a nearby ba-saltic sill. The second is the Yixian Bed 9 tuff from Heng-daozi considered by Lo et al. to be unaffected by metamor-phism and whose age, based on total fusion 40Ar/39Ar dating of biotite, argues for a Jurassic age for the Yixian Formation. The third tuff is a previously undated tuff from the upper part of the underlying Tuchengzi Formation. Single crystal total fusion 40Ar/39Ar analyses of the Sihetun sanidine showed homogeneous radiogenic Ar, Ca/K ratios, excellent reproducibility and gave a mean age of 125.0 ± 0.18 (1SD) ± 0.04 (SE) Ma. However, there are still deficiencies in ABC regarding its local search ability and global search efficiency. Aiming at these deficiencies,an ABC variant named hybrid ABC(HABC) algorithm is proposed.Firstly, the variable neighborhood search factor is added to the solution search equation, which can enhance the local search ability and increase the population diversity. Secondly, inspired by the neuroscience investigation of real honeybees, the memory mechanism is put forward, which assumes the artificial bees can remember their past successful experiences and further guide the subsequent foraging behavior. The proposed memory mechanism is used to improve the global search efficiency. | 6 | Blocking NF-kB nuclear translocation leads to p53-related autophagy activation and cell apoptosis显示文摘AIM: To investigate the anti-tumor effects of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) inhibitor SN50 and related mechanisms of SGC7901 human gastric carcinoma cells. METHODS: MTT assay was used to determine the cytotoxic effects of SN50 in gastric cancer cell line SGC7901. Hoechst 33258 staining was used to detect apoptosis morphological changes after SN50 treatment. Activation of autophagy was monitored with monodansylcadaverine (MDC) staining after SN50 treatment.Immunofluorescence staining was used to detect the expression of light chain 3 (LC3). Mitochondrial membrane potential was measured using the fluorescent probe JC-1. Western blotting analysis were used to determine the expression of proteins involved in apoptosis and autophagy including p53, p53 upregulated modulator of apoptosis (PUMA), damage-regulated autophagy modulator (DRAM), LC3 and Beclin 1. We detected the effects of p53-mediated autophagy activation on the apoptosis of SGC7901 cells with the p53 inhibitor pifithrin-α. RESULTS: The viability of SGC7901 cells was inhibited after SN50 treatment. Inductions in the expression of apoptotic protein p53 and PUMA as well as autophagic protein DRAM, LC3 and Beclin 1 were detected with Western blotting analysis. SN50-treated cells exhibited punctuate microtubule-associated protein 1 LC3 in immunoreactivity and MDC-labeled vesicles increased after treatment of SN50 by MDC staining. Collapse of mitochondrial membrane potential Δψ were detected for 6 to 24 h after SN50 treatment. SN50-induced increases in PUMA, DRAM, LC3 and Beclin 1 and cell death were blocked by the p53 specific inhibitor pifithrin-α. | 9 | Minimally invasive surgery alone compared with intensity-modulated radiotherapy for primary stage I nasopharyngeal carcinoma显示文摘Background:The National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines recommend intensity-modulated radiotherapy(IMRT)as the primary curative treatment for newly diagnosed nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC),but the radiation-related complications and relatively high medical costs remain a consequential burden for the patients.Endoscopic nasopharyngectomy(ENPG)was successfully applied in recurrent NPC with radiation free and relatively low medical costs.In this study,we examined whether ENPG could be an effective treatment for localized stage I NPC.Methods:Ten newly diagnosed localized stage I NPC patients voluntarily received ENPG alone from June 2007 to September 2017 in Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center.Simultaneously,the data of 329 stage I NPC patients treated with IMRT were collected and used as a reference cohort.The survival outcomes,quality of life(QOL),and medical costs between two groups were compared.Results:After a median follow-up of 59.0 months(95%CI 53.4-64.6),no death,locoregional recurrence,or distant metastasis was observed in the 10 patients treated with ENPG.The 5-year overall survival,local relapse-free survival,regional relapse-free survival,and distant metastasis-free survival among the ENPG-treated patients was similar to that among the IMRT-treated patients(100%vs.99.1%,100%vs.97.7%,100%vs.99.0%,100%vs.97.4%,respectively,P>0.05).In addition,compared with IMRT,ENPG was associated with decreased total medical costs($4090.42±1502.65 vs.$12620.88±4242.65,P<0.001)and improved QOL scores including dry mouth(3.3±10.5 vs.34.4±25.8,P<0.001)and sticky saliva(3.3±10.5 vs.32.6±23.3,P<0.001).Conclusions:ENPG alone was associated with promising long-term survival outcomes,low medical costs,and satisfactory QOL and might therefore be an alternative strategy for treating newly diagnosed localized stage I NPC patients who refused radiotherapy.However,the application of ENPG should be prudent,and prospective clinical tri-als were needed to further verify the results. | You-Ping Liu Xing Lv Xiong Zou Yi-Jun Hua Rui You Qi Yang Le Xia Shao-Yan Guo Wen Hu Meng-Xia Zhang Si-Yuan Chen Mei Lin Yu-Long Xie Li-Zhi Liu Rui Sun Pei-Yu Huang Wei Fan Xiang Guo Ming-Huang Hong Ming-Yuan Chen | 2019 | Cancer Communications2019,39,1: | 17 |

| 13 | Human placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells loaded on linear ordered collagen scaffold improves functional recovery after completely transected spinal cord injury in canine显示文摘Traumatic spinal cord injury(SCI) is a major challenge in the clinic. In this study, we sought to examine the synergistic effects of linear ordered collagen scaffold(LOCS) and human placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells(hPMSCs) when transplanted into completely transected beagle dogs. After 36 weeks observation, we found that LOCS+hPMSCs implants promoted better hindlimb locomotor recovery than was observed in the non-treatment(control) group and LOCS group. Histological analysis showed that the regenerated tissue after treatment was well integrated with the host tissue, and dramatically reduced the volume of cystic and chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans(CSPGs) expression. Furthermore, the LOCS+hPMSCs group also showed more neuron-specific βIII-tubulin(Tuj-1)-and NeuN-positive neurons in the lesion area, as well as axonal regeneration, remyelination and synapse formation in the lesion site. Additionally, dogs in the LOCS+hPMSCs group experienced enhanced sprouting of both ascending(CGRP-positive) sensory fibers and descending(5-HT-and TH-positive) motor fibers at the lesion area. All these data together suggested that the combined treatment had beneficial effects on neuronal regeneration and functional improvement in a canine complete transection model. | 14 | Management of granulomatous lobular mastitis: an international multidisciplinary consensus(2021 edition)显示文摘Granulomatous lobular mastitis(GLM) is a rare and chronic benign inflammatory disease of the breast. Difficulties exist in the management of GLM for many front-line surgeons and medical specialists who care for patients with inflammatory disorders of the breast. This consensus is summarized to establish evidence-based recommendations for the management of GLM. Literature was reviewed using PubMed from January 1, 1971 to July 31, 2020. Sixty-six international experienced multidisciplinary experts from 11 countries or regions were invited to review the evidence.Levels of evidence were determined using the American College of Physicians grading system, and recommendations were discussed until consensus. Experts discussed and concluded 30 recommendations on historical definitions,etiology and predisposing factors, diagnosis criteria, treatment, clinical stages, relapse and recurrence of GLM. GLM was recommended as a widely accepted definition. In addition, this consensus introduced a new clinical stages and management algorithm for GLM to provide individual treatment strategies. In conclusion, diagnosis of GLM depends on a combination of history, clinical manifestations, imaging examinations, laboratory examinations and pathology.The approach to treatment of GLM should be applied according to the different clinical stage of GLM. | 18 | Olfactory ecto-mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes ameliorate murine Sjögren’s syndrome by modulating the function of myeloid-derived suppressor cells显示文摘Sjögren’s syndrome(SS)is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by progressive inflammation and tissue damage in salivary glands and lacrimal glands.Our previous studies showed that myeloid-derived suppressor cells(MDSCs)exhibited impaired immunosuppressive function during disease progression in patients with SS and mice with experimental Sjögren’s syndrome(ESS),but it remains unclear whether restoring the function of MDSCs can effectively ameliorate the development of ESS.In this study,we found that murine olfactory ecto-mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes(OE-MSC-Exos)significantly enhanced the suppressive function of MDSCs by upregulating arginase expression and increasing ROS and NO levels.Moreover,treatment with OE-MSC-Exos via intravenous injection markedly attenuated disease progression and restored MDSC function in ESS mice.Mechanistically,OE-MSC-Exo-secreted IL-6 activated the Jak2/Stat3 pathway in MDSCs.In addition,the abundant S100A4 in OE-MSC-Exos acted as a key factor in mediating the endogenous production of IL-6 by MDSCs via TLR4 signaling,indicating an autocrine pathway of MDSC functional modulation by IL-6.Taken together,our results demonstrated that OE-MSC-Exos possess therapeutic potential to attenuate ESS progression by enhancing the immunosuppressive function of MDSCs,possibly constituting a new strategy for the treatment of Sjögren’s syndrome and other autoimmune diseases. | Ke Rui Yue Hong Qiugang Zhu Xiaofei Shi Fan Xiao Hailong Fu Qing Yin Yida Xing Xinfeng Wu Xiaodan Kong Huaxi Xu Jie Tian Shengjun Wang Liwei Lu | 2021 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2021,18,2: | 12 |
