| 1 | Environment-ecosystem dynamic processes of Spartina alterniflora salt-marshes along the eastern China coastlines显示文摘Spartina alterniflora is ecologically important in its original habitat; however, it has caused controversy since it was introduction into China(now it has been spreading rapidly on the Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Fujian coasts). The purpose of the present contribution is, on the basis of an analysis and synthesis of existing data sets, to evaluate the environmental-ecological effects of S. alterniflora, and to identify the relevant scientific problems that require further research in the future. Investigations have shown that, by reducing the near-bed shear stress associated with tidal currents, S. alterniflora can enhance the settling flux of suspended sediment and deposition rate on the tidal flats over the region. Further, field survey and analysis indicate that the S. alterniflora salt-marsh has a high primary production and provides a new type of habitat for the native benthic fauna. Some macro-, meio- and micro-fauna that used to live in the native salt-marshes have adapted to the S. alterniflora salt-marsh, forming a new ecosystem. Under the influences of a number of background factors, such as latitude variations and the coastal type, the environmental-ecological changes induced by Spartine have regional differentiations. To the north of Hangzhou Bay, with a high position of the pre-Holocene stratum base, a large width of the tidal flats, and a gentle bed slope, only a small part of the intertidal zone is occupied by the S. alterniflora salt-marsh. Here, the S. alterniflora salt-marshes mainly play a positive role in coastal protection and ecosystem functioning. In contrary, to the South of Hangzhou Bay, The pre-Holocene deposits are situated in relatively deeo waters, and the width of the tidal flats formed within coastal embayments is relatively narrow. As such, the expansion of S. alterniflora has squeezed the living space of other intertidal organisms, thus has a negative ecological effect. Therefore, the regional differentiation of the Spartina effects should be sufficiently considered in coastal development and management. | 2 | Comparsion analysis of data mining models applied to clinical research in Traditional Chinese Medicine显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To help researchers selecting appropriate data mining models to provide better evidence for the clinical practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) diagnosis and therapy.METHODS: Clinical issues based on data mining models were comprehensively summarized from four significant elements of the clinical studies:symptoms, symptom patterns, herbs, and efficacy.Existing problems were further generalized to determine the relevant factors of the performance of data mining models, e.g. data type, samples, parameters, variable labels. Combining these relevant factors, the TCM clinical data features were compared with regards to statistical characters and informatics properties. Data models were compared simultaneously from the view of applied conditions and suitable scopes.RESULTS: The main application problems were the inconsistent data type and the small samples for the used data mining models, which caused the inappropriate results, even the mistake results. | 3 | X-ray-charged bright persistent luminescence in NaYF_(4):Ln^(3+)@NaYF_(4) nanoparticles for multidimensional optical information storage显示文摘NaYF_(4):Ln^(3+),due to its outstanding upconversion characteristics,has become one of the most important luminescent nanomaterials in biological imaging,optical information storage,and anticounterfeiting applications.However,the large specific surface area of NaYF_(4):Ln^(3+)nanoparticles generally leads to serious nonradiative transitions,which may greatly hinder the discovery of new optical functionality with promising applications.In this paper,we report that monodispersed nanoscale NaYF_(4):Ln^(3+),unexpectedly,can also be an excellent persistent luminescent(PersL)material.The NaYF_(4):Ln^(3+)nanoparticles with surface-passivated core–shell structures exhibit intense X-ray-charged PersL and narrow-band emissions tunable from 480 to 1060 nm.A mechanism for PersL in NaYF_(4):Ln^(3+)is proposed by means of thermoluminescence measurements and host-referred binding energy(HRBE)scheme,which suggests that some lanthanide ions(such as Tb)may also act as effective electron traps to achieve intense PersL.The uniform and spherical NaYF_(4):Ln^(3+)nanoparticles are dispersible in solvents,thus enabling many applications that are not accessible for traditional PersL phosphors.A new 3-dimensional(2 dimensions of planar space and 1 dimension of wavelength)optical information-storage application is demonstrated by inkjet-printing multicolor PersL nanoparticles.The multicolor persistent luminescence,as an emerging and promising emissive mode in NaYF_(4):Ln^(3+),will provide great opportunities for nanomaterials to be applied to a wider range of fields. | Yixi Zhuang Dunrong Chen Wenjing Chen Wenxing Zhang Xin Su Renren Deng Zhongfu An Hongmin Chen Rong-Jun Xie | 2021 | Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,7: | 12 |

| 5 | Robust cooperative spectrum sensing schemes for fading channels in cognitive radio networks显示文摘In cognitive radio systems, cooperative spectrum sensing can detect the presence of the primary user accurately. In practice, however, since the sensing observations are forwarded to a data collector through fading channels, the sensing performance is severely degraded. To deal with this problem, in this paper, we first propose a secondary user selection based cooperative spectrum sensing method to improve sensing performance by decreasing the reporting errors introduced by the fading channels. More specifically, only the secondary users with better signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for reporting channels are allowed to send their local binary decisions (0 or 1) to the data collector while the others will send nothing. Additionally, we further propose a diversity based cooperative spectrum sensing method which applies existing space-time coding. By exploiting space diversity in CR network, the reporting errors introduced by the fading channel can be decreased and then the sensing performance is improved significantly. For either proposed cooperative spectrum sensing method, the sensing performance is derived and the analytical performance results are given. | 6 | Gap junction-mediated cell-to-cell communication in oral development and oral diseases: a concise review of research progress显示文摘Homoeostasis depends on the close connection and intimate molecular exchange between extracellular, intracellular and intercellular networks. Intercellular communication is largely mediated by gap junctions(GJs), a type of specialized membrane contact composed of variable number of channels that enable direct communication between cells by allowing small molecules to pass directly into the cytoplasm of neighbouring cells. Although considerable evidence indicates that gap junctions contribute to the functions of many organs, such as the bone, intestine, kidney, heart, brain and nerve, less is known about their role in oral development and disease. In this review, the current progress in understanding the background of connexins and the functions of gap junctions in oral development and diseases is discussed. The homoeostasis of tooth and periodontal tissues, normal tooth and maxillofacial development, saliva secretion and the integrity of the oral mucosa depend on the proper function of gap junctions.Knowledge of this pattern of cell–cell communication is required for a better understanding of oral diseases. | 9 | Invasive Spartina alterniflora-induced factors affecting epibenthos distribution in coastal salt marsh, China显示文摘Artificially introduced cordgrass, Spartina alterniflora, rapidly colonized the intertidal flats of the Jiangsu coast, eastern China. The epibenthos on an intertidal flat invaded by S. alterniflora were studied, to identify how local epibenthos species react to an altered environment. Epibenthic samples and surficial sediment samples were collected along a shore-normal profile in 50 quadrats at ten stations across the Spartina salt marsh; and five control quadrats for a station located on the barren sandy-mud flat. The grain size parameters of the surficial sediments show that S. alterniflora altered the grain size gradient along the profile of the intertidal zone by trapping fine-grained sediments. Spartina alterniflora could inhabit lower elevations than indigenous salt marsh vegetation, thus creating larger areas of finer surficial sediments, which was suitable for not only native epibenthic species but also species which do not exist on the barren sandy-mud flat. Correlation analyses show that the epibenthos were sensitive to sediment grain size and type, on the invaded S. alterniflora salt marsh. Further, there was an interspecific relationship affecting the distribution of epibenthos. | 11 | Transforming growth factor-β1-induced N-cadherin drives cell–cell communication through connexin43 in osteoblast lineage显示文摘Gap junction(GJ)has been indicated to have an intimate correlation with adhesion junction.However,the direct interaction between them partially remains elusive.In the current study,we aimed to elucidate the role of N-cadherin,one of the core components in adhesion junction,in mediating connexin 43,one of the functional constituents in gap junction,via transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1)induction in osteoblasts.We first elucidated the expressions of N-cadherin induced by TGF-β1 and also confirmed the upregulation of Cx43,and the enhancement of functional gap junctional intercellular communication(GJIC)triggered by TGF-β1 in both primary osteoblasts and MC3T3 cell line.Colocalization analysis and Co-IP experimentation showed that N-cadherin interacts with Cx43 at the site of cell–cell contact.Knockdown of N-cadherin by siRNA interference decreased the Cx43 expression and abolished the promoting effect of TGF-β1 on Cx43.Functional GJICs in living primary osteoblasts and MC3T3 cell line were also reduced.TGF-β1-induced increase in N-cadherin and Cx43 was via Smad3 activation,whereas knockdown of Smad3 signaling by using siRNA decreased the expressions of both N-cadherin and Cx43.Overall,these data indicate the direct interactions between N-cadherin and Cx43,and reveal the intervention of adhesion junction in functional gap junction in living osteoblasts. | Yueyi Yang Wenjing Liu JieYa Wei Yujia Cui Demao Zhang Jing Xie | 2021 | International Journal of Oral Science2021,13,2: | 4 |
| 12 | mTOR pathway regulates the differentiation of peripheral blood Th2/Treg cell subsets in patients with pemphigus vulgaris显示文摘Pemphigus vulgaris(PV)is a chronic and potentially life-threatening autoimmune blistering disease.Aberrant mTOR pathway activity is involved in many autoimmune diseases.This study investigated the correlation of mTOR pathway(PI3K/AKT/mTOR/p70S6K)activity with the loss of balance in T helper 2/regulatory T(Th2/Treg)cells in the peripheral blood of PV patients.CD4^(+)T cells were isolated from 15 PV patients and 15 healthy controls(HCs),the ratios of Th2/CD4^(+)T cells and Treg/CD4^(+)T cells,the activity of the mTOR pathway(PI3K/AKT/mTOR/p70S6K),the transcription factors and cytokines of Th2 and Treg cells were detected.Primary CD4^(+)T cells from PV patients were cultured under Th2-or Treg-polarizing conditions with or without rapamycin in vitro.We found that PV patients showed significantly elevated serum IL-4 when compared with HCs,and serum IL-4 level was positively correlated with the titer of anti-Dsg1/3 antibody and disease severity,while the serum TGF-βlevel was negatively correlated with the titer of anti-Dsg3 antibody and disease severity.Meanwhile,PV patients showed increased Th2/CD4^(+)T cell ratio;decreased Treg/CD4^(+)T cell ratio;elevated mRNA of PI3K,AKT,mTOR and protein of PI3K(P85),AKT,p-AKT(Ser473),mTOR,p-mTOR(Ser2448),p-p70S6K(Thr389),GATA3;reduced protein of forkhead box protein 3.Rapamycin inhibited Th2 cell differentiation and promoted Treg cell differentiation in vitro.These data suggest a close association between mTOR pathway activation and the loss of balance in Th2/Treg cells in peripheral blood of PV patients.Inhibiting mTORC1 can help restore the Th2/Treg balance. | Kuan Lai Wenjing Zhang Songshan Li Zhiwen Zhang Shuangde Xie Meinian Xu Changxing Li Kang Zeng | 2021 | Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2021,53,4: | 4 |
| 13 | The relationship between light intensity and nutrient uptake kinetics in six freshwater diatoms显示文摘In order to find effective measures to control diatom blooms, a better understanding of the physiological characteristics of nutrient uptake in diatoms is needed. A study of P and Si-uptake kinetics for diatom species from two light regimes was conducted at low(LL),moderate(ML) and high light intensities(HL)(2, 25 and 80 μmol photons/(m2·sec)),respectively. The results showed that P uptake of diatoms was heavily influenced by historic light regimes. P affinity changed with growth and photosynthetic activity. The lowest half saturation constant for P uptake(Km(P)) was under HL for high-light adapted diatoms while the lowest half-saturation constant for low-light adapted diatoms was observed under LL. The Si half-saturation constant(Km(Si)) increased with increasing light intensities for pennate diatoms but decreased for centric diatoms. Diatom volumes were correlated with the maximum Si uptake rates(Vm(Si)) at HL and K m(Si)at ML and HL for six diatom species. Our results imply that when we assess the development of diatom blooms we should consider light intensity and cell volume in addition to ambient Si or P concentration.
