| 1 | Screening high-quality fetal bovine serum for porcine oocyte maturation in vitro显示文摘Fetal bovine serum(FBS) is widely used in cell cultures due to its high stability and easy access. It was also used as a substitute for porcine follicular fluid(PFF) in previous studies. However, FBS components are unclear, and the presence of FBS in culture media may introduce a variation from batch to batch. This study aimed to establish an effective method to screen FBS in place of PFF in the culture media for porcine oocytes in vitro. We screened FBS from different sources by using porcine fetal fibroblast cells. The effects of six FBS samples on porcine fetal fibroblast cell growth were tested via frozen cell survival assay, cell clone formation assay, cell growth curve, and cell passage activity assay. The best serum that we called GFBS(heat-inactivated FBS, cat. no. 10500-64;Gibco) showed a similar effect on the maturation and development of porcine oocytes to that of PFF and can be used as a good substitute for PFF. | 5 | A Novel Fluorescent Probe for ATP Detection Based on Synergetic Effect of Aggregation-induced Emission and Counterion Displacement显示文摘In this work,a fluorescent probe(TPEBe-I)was developed for adenosine triphosphate(ATP)detection based on the synergetic effect of aggregation-induced emission and counterion displacement.TPEBe-I gave weak emission in aqueous solution due to the heavy-atom effect of counter iodide ion.However,upon the addition of ATP,the new aggregate complex(TPEBe-ATP)was formed between the cationic unit of TPEBe-I and ATP through electrostatic interactions,which not only restricted the intramolecular motion of luminogen but also eliminated the quenching effect of iodide ion.As a result,the fluorescent light-up detection for ATP was successfully achieved.Moreover,TPEBe-I exhibited high selectivity towards ATP and showed a wide linear detection region towards the logarithm of ATP concentration(5—600µmol/L)with a detection limit of 1.0µmol/L,enabling TPEBe-I as a promising probe for ATP quantitative analysis. | PAN Quan MA Feiyan PU Xinqing ZHAO Manyi WU Qiling ZHAO Na YANG Jun TANG Ben Zhong | 2021 | Chemical Research in Chinese Universities2021,37,1: | 1 |
| 6 | Geometrical Design and Hydraulic Feasibility of Inner-Reinforced Girders in Hydropower Bifurcations显示文摘Inner-reinforced girders, also known as ribs, are widely used in hydropower bifurcations. However, while they strengthen structures, they also cause energy loss. This work aims to develop an appropriate geometry form for ribs that can diminish head loss in hydropower bifurcations. The term rib/breadth ratio(RBR) is defined to describe the geometrical form of ribs. An investigation is conducted to study the flow and performance characteristics of bifurcations with ribs using computational fluid dynamics. The dependence of the head loss coefficient on the RBR is given in six working conditions. Results show that the ribs change the local flow patterns and slightly increase the water head loss in some cases. In other cases,however, the ribs make the flow smooth. An appropriate RBR is the key to improve the flow patterns in hydropower bifurcations. | 7 | Design and experimental verification of a monolithic complete-light modulator based on birefringent materials显示文摘This paper presents a method to design a monolithic complete-light modulator(MCLM) that fully controls the amplitude, phase, and polarization of incident light. The MCLM is made of birefringent materials that provide different refractive indices to orthogonal eigen-polarizations, the ordinary o and extraordinary e states. We propose an optimization method to calculate the two relief depth distributions for the two eigen-polarizations. Also, a merging algorithm is proposed to combine the two relief depth distributions into one. The corresponding simulations were carried out in this work and the desired light distribution, including information on amplitude,phase, and four polarization states, was obtained when a laser beam passed through a 16-depth-level microstructure whose feature size is 8 μm. The structure was fabricated by common photolithography. An experimental optical system was also set up to test the optical effects and performances of the MCLM. | 8 | Plasmon-induced hot carrier dynamics and utilization显示文摘Plasmonics has aroused tremendous interest in photophysics,nanophotonics,and metamaterials.The extreme field concentration of plasmonics offers the ultimate spatial and temporal light control,single-particle detection,and optical modulation.Plasmon decay of metal nanostructures into hot carriers extends the application into photocatalysis,photodetectors,photovoltaics,and ultrafast nanooptics.The generated hot electron–hole pairs are transferred into adjacent dielectrics,well known to be more efficient than the hot carrier generation in dielectrics by direct photoexcitations.However,plasmon-induced hot-carrier-based devices are far from practical applications due to the low quantum yield of hot carrier extraction.Emergent challenges include low hot carrier generation efficiency in metals,rapid energy loss of hot carriers,and severe charge recombination at the metal/dielectric interface.In this review,we provide a fundamental insight into the hot carrier generation,transport,injection,and diffusion into dielectrics based on the steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopic studies as well as theoretical calculations.Strategies to enhance hot carrier generation in metals and electron transfer into dielectrics are discussed in detail.Then,applications based on hot carrier transfer are introduced briefly.Finally,we provide our suggestions on future research endeavors.We believe this review will provide a valuable overall physical picture of plasmon-induced hot carrier applications for researchers. | Jian Luo Qile Wu Lin Zhou Weixi Lu Wenxing Yang Jia Zhu | 2023 | Photonics Insights2023,2,4: | 0 |
