| 1 | Rhizosphere Bacteria for Biocontrol of Bacterial Blight and Growth Promotion of Rice显示文摘Several bacterial strains were isolated from different rhizospheres.Among these,strain PDY7 exhibited strong antibacterial activity against the rice bacterial blight(BB)pathogen Xanthomonas oryzae pv.oryzae(Xoo)by the laboratory dual plate assays.The antibacterial property of the strain PDY7 was further investigated for the production of 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol(DAPG),which amplified a characteristic of 629-bp DNA fragment by PCR-based screening method using phlD primers.The application of phlD positive strains was carefully evaluated for disease control and growth promotion of rice plants under field conditions.The selected strain PDY7 suppressed the rice BB by 58.83%and51.88%under glass house and field conditions,respectively.In addition,the strain PDY7 showed significant two-fold increase in root length(18.08 cm),shoot length(29.81 cm),and grain yield(96.07g).Strain PDY7 promoted the growth of rice plants by production of indole-3-acetic acid(IAA),which was determined by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)analysis.Our findings suggest that PDY7 belongs to the P.fluorescens group and can serve as potential biocontrol of BB as well as biofertilizer agent for growth promotion of rice. | Palaniyandi VELUSAMY J.EBENEZAR IMMANUEL Samuel S.GNANAMANICKAM | 2013 | Rice science2013,20,5: | 9 |
| 2 | The effect of leaves extracts of Clitoria ternatea Linn against the fish pathogens显示文摘Objective:To investigate the antimicrobial activity of Clitoria ternatea(C.ternatea) against the fish pathogens viz.,Pseudomonas aeruginosa(P.aeruginosa),Escherichia coli(E.coli),Klebsiella pneumonia(K.pneumonia),Bacillus subtilis(B.subtilis),Aeromonas formican(A.formicans)s, Aeromonas hydrophila(A.hydrophila) and Streptococcus agalactiae(S.agalactiae )isolated from diseased Tilapia(Oreochromis niloticus).Methods:The extracts of C.ternatea was tested against P.aeruginosa,E.coli,K.pneumonia,B.subtilis,A.formicans,A.hydrophila and S.agalactiae by the agar well diffusion method.Results:Different extracts of C.ternatea showed inhibitory effects against P.aeruginosa,E.coli,K.pneumonia,B.subtilis,A.formicans,A.hydrophila and S. agalactiae.Ethyl acetate extracts of C.ternatea showed maximum of zone of inhibition against A. formicans(18 mm),A.hydrophilia(19 mm),B.subtilis(19 mm) and P.aeruginosa(21 mm) next to that ethanol extract of C.ternatea showed A.formicans(18 mm) and E.coli(14 mm) followed by Acetone extract showed maximum zone of inhibition S.agalactiae(19 mm) and K.pneumonia(17 mm).Conclusions:The antimicrobial activities of all the four plant extracts are comparable and their potential as alternative in the treatment of infectious by these microorganisms was present in the fish.Susceptibility testing is conducted on isolates using drugs selected on the basis of their importance to human medicine and use in fish production. | Selvamaleeswaran Ponnusamy Wesely Ebenezer Gnanaraj Johnson Marimuthu Antonisamy Velusamy Selvakumar Jeyakumar Nelson | 2010 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,9: | 4 |

| 4 | Imidazolium-Based Ionic Liquids as an Anticorrosive Agent for Completion Fluid Design显示文摘Most of the onshore and offshore oil and gas reservoirs are facing operational challenges due to high temperature and high salinity, thus requiring advanced techniques for realizing the expected oil recovery with the use of specially designed chemicals. During oil and gas well development, completion fluids, which are solids-free liquids, are used to complete an oil or gas well. Completion fluids consisting of brines are primarily used for oil and gas well stabilization and are corrosive in nature. There is a need to develop additives to be added with completion fluids to address the corrosive nature. The present investigation involved the usage of two imidazolium ionic liquids(ILs) as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in various completion brine(Ca Cl_2, HCOOCs and ZnBr_2) fluids. The study was performed using various techniques, such as, potentiodynamic polarization, weight loss measurements and exposure studies. All the above techniques showed promising results which indicated that the ILs as corrosion inhibitors used were of the mixed-type following both physisorption and chemisorption over the mild steel surface. Among the two inhibitors studied here, 1-octyl-3-methyl imidazolium chloride([OMIM]^+[Cl]^-) with longer alkyl chain exhibited better inhibition efficiency and much lesser corrosion rate than 1-butyl-3-methyl imidazolium chloride([BMIM]^+[Cl]^-) with a shorter alkyl chain.
