| 1 | Determining Crop and Pan Coefficients for Cauliflower and Red Cabbage Crops Under Cool Season Semiarid Climatic Conditions显示文摘The aim of this study was to estimate the evapotranspiration of cauliflower and red cabbage crops grown under cool season semiarid climatic conditions from Class A pan evaporation. Actual evapotranspiration (ETc) of cauliflower and red cabbage crops was calculated according to the water balance approach. Reference evapotranspiration (ETo) was calculated with FAO Penman-Monteith equation. Pan evaporation (Epan) was measured by using Class A pan. Seasonal ETc was determined as 475 mm for cauliflower and 556 mm for red cabbage. Seasonal pan coefficient (kp = ETo/Epan) was determined as 0.82, and the seasonal crop coefficient (kc = ETc/ETo) was determined as 0.84 for cauliflower and 0.83 for red cabbage. | 2 | Incidence of toxoplasmosis in patients with cirrhosis显示文摘AIM:It is known that toxoplasmosis rarely leads to various liver pathologies,most common of which is granulomatose hepatitis in patients having normal immune systems. Patients who have cirrhosis of the liver are subject to a variety of cellular as well as humoral immunity disorders. Therefore, it may be considered that toxoplasmosis can cause more frequent and more severe diseases in patients with cirrhosis and is capable of changing the course of the disease.The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of toxoplasmosis in patients with cirrhosis.METHODS:Serum samples were taken from 108 patients with cirrhosis under observation in the Hepatology Polyclinic of the Gastroenterology Clinic,and a control group made up of 50 healthy blood donors. IFAT and ELISA methods were used to investigate the IgG and IgM antibodies, which had developed from these sera.RESULTS:Toxoplasma IgG and IgM antibody positivity was found in 74 (68.5%) of the 108 cirrhotic patients and 24 (48%) of the 50 people in the control group. The difference between them was significant (P<0.05).CONCLUSION: In conclusion, it was found that the toxoplasma sero-prevalence in the cirrhotic patients in this study was higher. Cirrhotic patients are likely to form a toxoplasma risk group. | 3 | Fruit Yield and Quality, and Irrigation Water Use Efficiency of Summer Squash Drip-Irrigated with Different Irrigation Quantities in a Semi-Arid Agricultural Area显示文摘Fruit yield, yield components, fruit mineral content, total p henolic content, antioxidant activity and irrigation water use efficiency(IWUE) of summer squash responses to different irrigation quantities were evaluated with a field study. Irrigations were done when the total evaporated water from a Class A pan was about 30 mm. Different irrigation quantities were adjusted using three different plant-pan coefficients(Kcp, 100%(Kcp1), 85%(Kcp2) and 70%(Kcp3)). Results indicated that lower irrigation quantities provided statistically lower yield and yield components. The highest seasonal fruit yield(80.0 t ha-1) was determined in the Kcp1 treatment, which applied the highest volume of irrigation water(452.9 mm). The highest early fruit yield, average fruit weight and fruit diameter, length and number per plant were also determined in the Kcp1 treatment, with values of 7.25 t ha-1, 264.1 g, 5.49 cm, 19.95 cm and 10.92, respectively. Although the IWUE value was the highest in the Kcp1 treatment(176.6 kg ha-1 mm-1), it was statistically similar to the value for Kcp3 treatment(157.1 kg ha-1 mm-1). Total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of fruits was higher in the Kcp1(44.27 μg gallic acid equivalents(GAE) mg-1 fresh sample) and in the Kcp2(84.75%) treatments, respectively. Major(Na, N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S) and trace(Fe, Cu, Mn, Zn and B) mineral contents of squash fruits were the highest in the Kcp2 treatment, with the exception of P, Ca and Cu. Mineral contents and total phenolic content were significantly affected by irrigation quantities, but antioxidant activity was not affected. It can be concluded that the Kcp1 treatment was the most suitable for achieving higher yield and IWUE. | 5 | Prevalence of amebiasis in inflammatory bowel disease in Turkey显示文摘AIM: To explore the prevalence of amebiasis in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in Turkey.METHODS: In this study, amoeba prevalence in 160 cases of IBD, 130 of ulcerative colitis and 30 of Crohn′s disease were investigated in fresh faeces by means of wet mount+Lugol′s iodine staining, modified formol ethyl acetate and trichrome staining methods and to compare the diagnostic accuracy of wet mount+Lugol′s iodine staining,modified formol ethyl acetate and trichrome staining methods in the diagnosis of Entamoeba histolytica (E. histolytica)/Entamoeba dispar (E. dispar).RESULTS: E. histolytica/E. dispar cysts and trophozoites were found in 14 (8.75 %) of a total of 160 cases, 13 (10.0 %)of the 130 patients with ulcerative colitis and 1 (3.3 %) of the 30 patients with Crohn′s disease. As for the 105 patients in the control group who had not any gastrointestinal complaints, 2 (1.90 %) patients were found to have E.histolytica/E. dispar cysts in their faeces. Parasite prevalence in the patient group was determined to be significantly higher than that in the control group (Fischer′s Exact Test, P<0.05).When the three methods of determining parasites were compared with one another, the most effective one was found to be trichrome staining method (Kruskal-Wallis Test, P<0.01).CONCLUSION: Consequently, amoeba infections in IBD cases have a greater prevalence compared to the normal population. | 7 | An Improved Security Scheme for IEC 61850MMS Messages in Intelligent Substation Communication Networks显示文摘Advanced connectivity in substations brings along cybersecurity considerations. Especially, the use of standardized data objects and message structures stipulated by IEC 61850 makes them much more vulnerable to unauthorized access and manipulation. In order to tackle these vulnerabilities, different methods are investigated by researchers all over the world. An important aspect of such efforts is the real-time performance consideration since power systems are bound by the rules of physics and all control/communication tasks need to be completed in a certain time frame. Security schemes for substation communication have been proposed in the recent literature. However, they must be improved to ensure a full security solution. Recently published IEC 62351 standard aims to fill this gap. Node authentication is vital for substation communication networks based on IEC 61850 to mitigate a variety of attacks such as man-in-the-middle(MITM) attack. This short communication presents a node authentication mechanism based on transport layer security(TLS) with certificates to address this knowledge gap. | 8 | Conjunctival impression cytology in non-proliferative and proliferative diabetic retinopathy显示文摘AIM:To examine the integrity of the ocular surfaces of subjects with and without diabetes with no conjunctival and dry eye signs and symptoms and compare conjunctival impression cytology findings in diabetics with non-proliferative and proliferative diabetic retinopathy.METHODS:Conjunctival impression cytology was performed on 43 eyes of 43 subjects with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy(NPDR),42 eyes of 42subjects with proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR),and30 eyes of 30 control subjects.Impression cytology specimens of each group were graded and scored in the range 0-3 according to Nelson's method.RESULTS:There were 45(52.9%)women and 40(47.1%)men.The mean age of the patients was 59.6±9.3y(range,43-76y)in NPDR group and 58.0±8.8y(range,41-85y)in PDR group.Cases with NPDR and PDR showed statistically significant higher impression cytology scores than control group(P<0.05).There was no difference between the NPDR and PDR patients for impression cytology grading scores.CONCLUSION:It is determined that impression cytology grades are altered in patients with NPDR and PDR.Consequently,we suggest that there might be an association between the impression cytology grading scores and the severity of diabetic | Mehmet Citirik Nilufer Berker Hulya Haksever Ufuk Elgin Huseyin Ustun | 2014 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2014，7，2： | 2 |
