| 1 | Acute hepatitis C virus infection in a nurse trainee following a needlestick injury显示文摘Hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection after biological accident(needlestick injury) is a rare event.This report describes the first case of acute HCV infection after a needlestick injury in a female nursing student at Padua University Hospital.The student nurse was injured on the second finger of the right hand when recapping a 23-gauge needle after taking a blood sample.The patient who was the source was a 72-year-old female with weakly positive anti-HCV test results.Three months after the injury,at the second step of followup,a relevant increase in transaminases with a low viral replication activity(350 IU/mL) was observed in the student,indicating HCV infection.The patient tested positive for the same genotype(1b) of HCV as the injured student.A rapid decline in transaminases,which was not accompanied by viral clearance,and persistently positive HCV-RNA was described 1 mo later.Six months after testing positive for HCV,the student was treated with pegylated interferon plus ribavirin for 24 wk.A rapid virological response was observed after 4 wk of treatment,and a sustained virological response(SVR) was evident 6 mo after therapy withdrawal,confirming that the patient was definitively cured.Despite the favourable IL28B gene(rs12979860) CC-polymorphism observed in the patient,which is usually predictive of a spontaneous clearance and SVR,spontaneous viral clearance did not take place;however,infection with this genotype was promising for a sustained virological response after therapy. | Renzo Scaggiante Liliana Chemello Roberto Rinaldi Giovanni Battista Bartolucci Andrea Trevisan | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,4: | 11 |

| 3 | Mangiferin,a natural xanthone,accelerates gastrointestinal transit in mice involving cholinergic mechanism显示文摘AIM:To investigate the effects of mangiferin on gastrointestinal transit(GIT) in normal and constipated mice,together with the possible mechanism.METHODS:Intragastrically-administered charcoal mealwas used to measure GIT in overnight starved Swiss mice.In the first experiments,mangiferin(3 mg/kg,10 mg/kg,30 mg/kg,and 100 mg/kg,po) or tegaserod(1 mg/kg,ip) were administered 30 min before the charcoal meal to study their effects on normal transit.In the second series,mangiferin(30 mg/kg) was tested on delayed GIT induced by several different pharmacological agonists(morphine,clonidine,capsaicin) or antagonists(ondansetron,verapamil,and atropine) whereas in the third series,mangiferin(30 mg/kg,100 mg/kg and 300 mg/kg) or tegaserod(1 mg/kg) were tested on 6 h fecal pellets outputted by freely fed mice.The ratio of wet to dry weight was calculated and used as a marker of fecal water content.RESULTS:Mangiferin administered orally significantly(P < 0.05) accelerated GIT at 30 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg(89% and 93%,respectively),similarly to 5-hydroxytryptamine4(5-HT4) agonist tegaserod(81%) when compared to vehicle-treated control(63%).Co-administered mangiferin(30 mg/kg) totally reversed the inhibitory effect of opioid agonist morphine,5-HT3-receptor antagonist ondansetron and transient receptor potential vanilloid-1 receptor agonist capsaicin on GIT,but only to a partial extent with the GIT-delay induced by 2-adrenoceptor agonist clonidine,and calcium antagonist verapamil.However,co-administered atropine completely blocked the stimulant effect of mangiferin on GIT,suggesting the involvement of muscarinic acetylcholine receptor activation.Although mangiferin significantly enhanced the 6 h fecal output at higher doses(245.5 ± 10.43 mg vs 161.9 ± 10.82 mg and 227.1 ± 20.11 mg vs 161.9 ± 10.82 mg of vehicle-treated control,at 30 and 100 mg/kg,P < 0.05,respectively),the effect of tegaserod was more potent(297.4 ± 7.42 mg vs 161.9 ± 10.82 mg of vehicle-treated control,P < 0.05).Unlike tegaserod,which showed an enhanced water content in fecal pellets(59.20% ± 1.09% vs 51.44% ± 1.19% of control,P < 0.05),mangiferin evidenced no such effect,indi-cating that it has only a motor and not a secretomotor effect.CONCLUSION:Our data indicate the prokinetic action of mangiferin.It can stimulate the normal GIT and also overcome the drug-induced transit delay,via a cholinergic physiological mechanism. | Talita Cavalcante Morais Synara Cavalcante Lopes Karine Maria Martins Bezerra Carvalho Bruno Rodrigues Arruda Francisco Thiago Correia de Souza Maria Teresa Salles Trevisan Vietla Satyanarayana Rao Flávia Almeida Santos | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,25: | 3 |
| 4 | The silk road economic belt: balance of interests显示文摘The article makes an analogy between the Great Silk Road and the modern Belt and Road Initiative(BRI,also known as‘One Belt,One Road’[OBOR])of China in the context of their significance for the development of international trade,as well as the Central Asian region.The historical role of the Silk Road is considered from the viewpoint of mutual benefit of states along the trade route.The authors consider the concept as the co-development of states,suggested by China within the framework of the BRI,which involves international cooperation on the basis of mutual benefits for all participants,promotion of economic growth and welfare,development of modern infrastructure through joint investments.An attempt is made to assess the interests of Central Asian countries in the Silk Road Economic Belt(SREB)projects.Common interests include construction of modern road infrastructure,exploration and extraction of mineral deposits,transportation of energy resources,establishment of logistics and industrial zones.There is an increase in the transit role of the Central Asian countries within the framework of the BRI,as well an increase in investments from China.The countries along SREB are concerned about potential threats of the inflow of Chinese labour,the use of technologies that can cause environmental problems,the loss of control over strategic assets,and general growth of financial dependence on China.The article analyses Russia’s perception of the Chinese initiative.It is concluded that the main mutual interest of the two countries is opposing the US’s attempts to establish a dominating role in the region and thus ensuring the security of the transport system through the institutions of the Eurasian Economic Union(EAEU)and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation(SCO).The authors reveal a trend of changing the role of Russia as the main transit corridor for Chinese goods exported to Europe and European ones imported to China.The key long-term economic interests of China implementing the BRI have been identified:expansion of foreign markets,access to critical resources in the countries of Central Asia,export of capital,transfer of production abroad,increased exports of high-tech products and services,expansion of the RMB currency area and initiation of structural changes in the global management system.The assessment of China’s initiative by the US and Europe is given as a claim to economic leadership and the struggle to balance the country’s geopolitical position with its economic strength.The authors identify the areas of mutual and opposing interests of some European countries and China.It is concluded that,despite high risks and existing threats,the projects of the BRI can be implemented successfully that achieve the balance of interests and long-term mutual benefits of the countries involved. | Yakov Silin Larisa Kapustina Italo Trevisan Andrei Drevalev | 2018 | Economic and Political Studies2018,6,3: | 2 |
