Insight-HXMT observations of the first binary neutron star merger GW170817显示文摘Finding the electromagnetic(EM) counterpart of binary compact star merger, especially the binary neutron star(BNS) merger,is critically important for gravitational wave(GW) astronomy, cosmology and fundamental physics. On Aug. 17, 2017,Advanced LIGO and Fermi/GBM independently triggered the first BNS merger, GW170817, and its high energy EM counterpart,GRB 170817 A, respectively, resulting in a global observation campaign covering gamma-ray, X-ray, UV, optical, IR, radio as well as neutrinos. The High Energy X-ray telescope(HE) onboard Insight-HXMT(Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope) is the unique high-energy gamma-ray telescope that monitored the entire GW localization area and especially the optical counterpart(SSS17 a/AT2017 gfo) with very large collection area(~1000 cm^2) and microsecond time resolution in 0.2-5 MeV. In addition,Insight-HXMT quickly implemented a Target of Opportunity(ToO) observation to scan the GW localization area for potential X-ray emission from the GW source. Although Insight-HXMT did not detect any significant high energy(0.2-5 MeV) radiation from GW170817, its observation helped to confirm the unexpected weak and soft nature of GRB 170817 A. Meanwhile,Insight-HXMT/HE provides one of the most stringent constraints(~10^(-7) to 10^(-6) erg/cm^2/s) for both GRB170817 A and any other possible precursor or extended emissions in 0.2-5 MeV, which help us to better understand the properties of EM radiation from this BNS merger. Therefore the observation of Insight-HXMT constitutes an important chapter in the full context of multi-wavelength and multi-messenger observation of this historical GW event.TiPei Li ShaoLin Xiong ShuangNan Zhang FangJun Lu LiMing Song XueLei Cao Zhi Chang Gang Chen Li Chen TianXiang Chen Yong Chen YiBao Chen YuPeng Chen Wei Cui WeiWei Cui JingKang Deng YongWei Dong YuanYuan Du MinXue Fu GuanHua Gao He Gao Min Gao MingYu Ge YuDong Gu Ju Guan ChengCheng Guo DaWei Han Wei Hu Yue Huang Jia Huo ShuMei Jia LuHua Jiang WeiChun Jiang Jing Jin YongJie Jin Bing Li ChengKui Li Gang Li MaoShun Li Wei Li Xian Li XiaoBo Li XuFang Li YanGuo Li ZiJian Li ZhengWei Li XiaoHua Liang JinYuan Liao CongZhan Liu GuoQing Liu HongWei Liu ShaoZhen Liu XiaoJing Liu Yuan Liu YiNong Liu Bo Lu XueFeng Lu Tao Luo Xiang Ma Bin Meng Yi Nang JianYin Nie Ge OU JinLu Qu Na Sai Liang Sun Yin Tan Lian Tao WenHui Tao YouLi Tuo GuoFeng Wang HuanYu Wang Juan Wang WenShuai Wang YuSa Wang XiangYang Wen BoBing WU Mei Wu GuangCheng Xiao He Xu YuPeng Xu LinLi Yan JiaWei Yang Sheng Yang YanJi Yang AiMei Zhang ChunLei Zhang ChengMo Zhang Fan Zhang HongMei Zhang Juan Zhang Qiang Zhang Shu Zhang Tong Zhang Wei Zhang WanChang Zhang WenZhao Zhang Yi Zhang Yue Zhang YiFei Zhang YongJie Zhang Zhao Zhang ZiLiang Zhang HaiSheng Zhao JianLing Zhao XiaoFan Zhao ShiJie Zheng Yue Zhu YuXuan Zhu ChangLin Zou 2018Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2018,61,3:12
The High Energy X-ray telescope (HE) onboard the Insight-HXMT astronomy satellite显示文摘The Insight-Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope(Insight-HXMT) is a broadband X-ray and γ-ray(1-3000 ke V) astronomy satellite. One of its three main telescopes is the High Energy X-ray telescope(HE). The main detector plane of HE comprises 18 Na I(Tl)/Cs I(Na) phoswich detectors, where Na I(Tl) is used as the primary detector to measure ~ 20-250 ke V photons incident from the field of view(FOV) defined by collimators, and Cs I(Na) is used as the active shielding detector to Na I(Tl) by pulse shape discrimination. Additionally, Cs I(Na) is used as an omnidirectional γ-ray monitor. The HE collimators have a diverse FOV,i.e. 1.1°×5.7°(15 units), 5.7°×5.7°(2 units), and blocked(1 unit). Therefore, the combined FOV of HE is approximately5.7°×5.7°. Each HE detector has a diameter of 190 mm resulting in a total geometrical area of approximately 5100 cm2, and the energy resolution is ~15% at 60 ke V. For each recorded X-ray event by HE, the timing accuracy is less than 10 μs and the deadtime is less than 10 μs. HE is used for observing spectra and temporal variability of X-ray sources in the 20-250 ke V band either by pointing observations for known sources or scanning observations to unveil new sources. Additionally, HE is used for monitoring the γ-ray burst in 0.2-3 Me V band. This paper not only presents the design and performance of HE instruments but also reports results of the on-ground calibration experiments.CongZhan Liu YiFei Zhang XuFang Li XueFeng Lu Zhi Chang ZhengWei Li AiMei Zhang YongJie Jin HuiMing Yu Zhao Zhang MinXue Fu YiBao Chen JianFeng Ji YuPeng Xu JingKang Deng RenCheng Shang GuoQing Liu FangJun Lu ShuangNan Zhang YongWei Dong TiPei Li Mei Wu YanGuo Li HuanYu Wang BoBing Wu YongJie Zhang Zhi Zhang ShaoLin Xiong Yuan Liu Shu Zhang HongWei Liu YiJung Yang Fan Zhang 2020Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2020,63,4:9
Systematic distortion in cosmic microwave background maps显示文摘To minimize instrumentally the induced systematic errors, cosmic microwave background(CMB)anisotropy experiments measure temperature differences across the sky using pairs of horn antennas, temperature map is recovered from temperature difference obtained in sky survey through a map-making procedure. To inspect and calibrate residual systematic errors in the recovered temperature maps is important as most previous studies of cosmology are based on these maps.By analyzing pixel-ring coupling and latitude dependence of CMB temperatures,we find notable systematic devia- tion from CMB Gaussianity in released Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe(WMAP)maps. The detected deviation cannot be explained by the best-fit LCDM cosmological model at a confidence level above 99%and cannot be ignored for a precision cosmology study.LIU Hao 1,3 &LI TiPei 1,2 1Key Laboratory of Particle Astrophysics,Institute of High Energy Physics,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100049,China 2Center for Astrophysics,Tsinghua University,Beijing 100084,China 3 Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100049,China 2009Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2009,52,5:8
The Low Energy X-ray telescope (LE) onboard the Insight-HXMT astronomy satellite显示文摘The Low Energy X-ray telescope(LE) is one of the three main instruments of the Insight-Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope(Insight-HXMT). It is equipped with Swept Charge Device(SCD) sensor arrays with a total geometrical area of 384 cm^2 and an energy band from 0.7 to 13 ke V. In order to evaluate the particle induced X-ray background and the cosmic X-ray background simultaneously, LE adopts collimators to define four types of Field Of Views(FOVs), i.e., 1.6°×6°, 4°×6°, 50°-60°×2°-6 oand the blocked ones which block the X-ray by an aluminum cover. LE is constituted of three detector boxes(LEDs) and an electric control box(LEB) and achieves a good energy resolution of 140 e V@5.9 ke V, an excellent time resolution of 0.98 ms, as well as an extremely low pileup(<1%@18000 cts/s). Detailed performance tests and calibration on the ground have been performed, including energy-channel relation, energy response, detection efficiency and time response.Yong Chen WeiWei Cui Wei Li Juan Wang YuPeng Xu FangJun Lul YuSa Wang TianXiang Chen DaWei Han Wei Hu Yi Zhang Jia Huo YanJi Yang MaoShun Li Bo Lu ZiLiang Zhang TiPei Li ShuangNan Zhang ShaoLin Xiong Shu Zhang RongFeng Xue XiaoFan Zhao Yue Zhu YuXuan Zhu HongWei Liu YiJung Yang Fan Zhang 2020Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2020,63,4:8
Pseudo-dipole signal removal from WMAP data显示文摘We have discovered in our previous work that different observational systematics,e.g.errors from antenna pointing directions or an asynchronism between the attitude and science data may generate a pseudo-dipole signal in the full-sky maps of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy that have been published by the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) team.We have found that the antenna sidelobe response to the Doppler signal produces a similar effect. In this work, independent from the sources,we have uniformly modeled the pseudo-dipole signal and have removed it from the published WMAP7 CMB maps by model fitting. The result demonstrates that the released WMAP CMB quadrupole is almost completely artificial.LIU Hao LI TiPei 2011Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,1:6
The Medium Energy X-ray telescope (ME) onboard the Insight-HXMT astronomy satellite显示文摘The Medium Energy X-ray telescope(ME) is one of the three main telescopes on board the Insight hard X-ray modulation telescope(Insight-HXMT) astronomy satellite. ME contains 1728 pixels of Si-PIN detectors sensitive in 5-30 ke V with a total geometrical area of 952 cm^2. The application specific integrated circuit(ASIC) chip, VA32TA6, is used to achieve low power consumption and low readout noise. The collimators define three kinds of field of views(FOVs) for the telescope, 1°×4°, 4°×4°,and blocked ones. Combination of such FOVs can be used to estimate the in-orbit X-ray and particle background components. The energy resolution of ME is ~3 ke V at 17.8 ke V(FWHM) and the time resolution is 255 μs. In this paper, we introduce the design and performance of ME.XueLei Cao WeiChun Jiang Bin Meng WanChang Zhang Tao Luo Sheng Yang ChunLei Zhang YuDong Gu Liang Sun XiaoJing Liu JiaWei Yang Xian Li Ying Tan ShaoZhen Liu YuanYuan Du FangJun Lu YuPeng Xu Ju Guan ShuangNan Zhang HuanYu Wang TiPei Li ChengMo Zhang XiangYang Wen JinLu Qu LiMing Song XiaoBo Li MingYu Ge YuPeng Zhou ShaoLin Xiong Shu Zhang YongJie Zhang ZeHao Cheng Fei Zhang MaoShun Li XiaoHua Liang Min Gao EnBo Yang XiaoHang Liu HongWei Liu YiJung Yang Fan Zhang 2020Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2020,63,4:5
Hard X-Ray Modulation Telescope(HXMT) Mission显示文摘The HXMT mission concept consists of a slat-collimated hard X-ray detector assembly sensitive in 20~250 keV with a collection area of about 5000 cm2. Based on the reconstruction technique by direct demodulation developed in recent years, HXMT is mainly devoted to performing a hard X-ray all-sky imaging survey with both high sensitivity and high spatial resolution. It can also be used to make pointed observations of X-ray sources to study their spectroscopic and temporal properties in details. The main detector of HXMT consists of 18 individual cylindrical NaI(T1)/CsI(Na) phoswich modules, each with anarea of 283.5 cm2 and a field of view of 5.7°× 1.1° (FWHM). Its spatial resolution and position accuracy are 5′ and 1′ by using the direct demodulation in 1994, and in 2000 its feasibility and technical demonstration study was selected as a project under the Major State Basic Research Program of China. In October 2005, this project entered the full design phase and was listed as a candidate for the first dedicated astronomy satellite around 2010. We are now also considering secondary low energy instruments for this satellite.LI Tipei ZHANG Shuangnan LU Fangjun 2006空间科学学报2006,26,z1:4
Overview to the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (Insight-HXMT) Satellite显示文摘As China’s first X-ray astronomical satellite, the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (HXMT), which was dubbed as Insight-HXMT after the launch on June 15, 2017, is a wide-band(1-250 ke V) slat-collimator-based X-ray astronomy satellite with the capability of all-sky monitoring in 0.2-3 Me V. It was designed to perform pointing, scanning and gamma-ray burst(GRB)observations and, based on the Direct Demodulation Method (DDM), the image of the scanned sky region can be reconstructed. Here we give an overview of the mission and its progresses, including payload, core sciences, ground calibration/facility, ground segment, data archive, software, in-orbit performance, calibration, background model, observations and some preliminary results.Shuang-Nan Zhang TiPei Li FangJun Lu LiMing Song YuPeng X u CongZhan Liu Yong Chen XueLei Cao QingCui Bu Zhi Chang Gang Chen Li Chen TianXiang Chen YiBao Chen YuPeng Chen Wei Cui WeiWei Cui JingKang Deng YongWei Dong Yuan Yuan Du MinXue Fu GuanHua Gao He Gao Min Gao MingYu Ge YuDong Gu Ju Guan Can Gungor ChengCheng Guo DaWei Han Wei Hu Yue Huang Jia Huo ShuMei Jia LuHua Jiang WeiChun Jiang Jing Jin YongJie Jin Bing Li ChengKui Li Gang Li MaoShun Li Wei Li Xian Li XiaoBo Li XuFang Li YanGuo Li ZiJian Li ZhengWei Li XiaoHua Liang JinYuan Liao GuoQing Liu HongWei Liu ShaoZhen Liu XiaoJing Liu Yuan Liu YiNong Liu Bo Lu XueFeng Lu Tao Luo Xiang Ma Bin Meng Yi Nang JianYin Nie Ge Ou JinLu Qu Na Sai RenCheng Shang GuoHong Shen Liang Sun Ying Tan Lian Tao YouLi Tuo Chen Wang ChunQin Wang GuoFeng Wang HuanYu Wang Juan Wang WenShuai Wang YuSa Wang XiangYang Wen BaiYang Wu BoBing Wu Mei Wu GuangCheng Xiao ShaoLin Xiong LinLi Yan JiaWei Yang Sheng Yang YanJi Yang QiBin Yi Bin Yuan AiMei Zhang ChunLei Zhang ChengMo Zhang Fan Zhang HongMei Zhang Juan Zhang Qiang Zhang ShenYi Zhangs Shu Zhang Tong Zhang WanChang Zhang Wei Zhang WenZhao Zhang Yi Zhang YiFei Zhang YongJie Zhang Yue Zhang Zhao Zhang Zhi Zhang ZiLiang Zhang HaiSheng Zhao XiaoFan Zhao ShiJie Zheng JianFeng Zhou YuXuan Zhu Yue Zhu RenLin Zhuang 2020Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2020,63,4:2
Missing completely of the CMB quadrupole in WMAP data显示文摘In cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiments, foreground-cleaned temperature maps are still contaminated by the residual dipole due to uncertainties of the Doppler dipole direction and microwave radiometer sidelobe. To obtain reliable CMB maps, such contamination has to be carefully removed from observed data. We have previously built a software package for map-making, residual dipole-contamination removal, and power spectrum estimation from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) raw data. This software has now been significantly improved. With the improved software, we obtain a negative result of CMB quadrupole detection with the WMAP raw data, which is 3.2±3.5 K2 from the seven-year WMAP (WMAP7) data. This result is evidently incompatible with ~1000 K2 expected from the standard cosmological model ΛCDM. The completely missing of CMB quadrupole poses a serious challenge to the standard model and sets a strong constraint on possible models of cosmology. Due to the importance of this result for understanding the origin and early evolution of our universe, the software codes we used are opened for public checking.LIU Hao LI TiPei 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,11:2

The flux modulation of INTEGRAL显示文摘We have analyzed International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory(INTEGRAL) data corresponding to observations of the high mass X-ray binary(HMXB) V0332+53 during its huge outburst which occurred in 2004-2005,and found that there is a quasi periodic signal with ultra low frequency of roughly 4-5×10-5 Hz in the observation. This feature is revealed through a series of consistent analyses of imagings and fittings of the energy spectrum for each science window(SCW),and shows up in the corresponding light curves. The analysis of the power spectrum also provides a hint of a power peak located around 4×10-5 Hz,after subtracting off the linear trend of the light curve, and shows the consistency with the previous analyses.A similar feature shows up in our analysis of the light curve of Crab in hexagonal dithering mode. Therefore,an instrumental effect on the flux modulation might exist in the INTEGRAL data product of different levels:imaging, spectral fitting and light curve analysis,at least for the observational mode of hexagonal dithering.Such an effect is,to our knowledge, not yet available in the current literature.CHEN YuPeng,ZHANG Shu,WANG JianMin,LI TiPei & QU JinLu Laboratory for Particle Astrophysics,Institute of High Energy Physics,Beijing 100049,China 2010Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2010,53,S1:0
