1Neuroprotective Effect of Chrysophanol as a PI3K/AKT/mTOR Signaling Inhibitor in an Experimental Model of Autologous Blood-induced Intracerebral Hemorrhage显示文摘Objective Intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH)refers to predominant,sporadic,and non-traumatic bleeding in the brain parenchyma.The PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway is an important signal transduction pathway regulated by enzyme-linked receptors and has many biological functions in mammals.It plays a key role in neuronal metabolism,gene expression regulation,and tissue homeostasis in the healthy and diseased brain.Methods In the present study,the role of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway inhibitor chrysophanol(CPH)(10 mg/kg and 20 mg/kg,orally)in the improvement of ICH-associated neurological defects in rats was investigated.Autologous blood(20µL/5 min/unilateral/intracerebroventricular)mimics ICH-like defects involving cellular and molecular dysfunction and neurotransmitter imbalance.The current study also included various behavioral assessments to examine cognition,memory,and motor and neuromuscular coordination.The protein expression levels of PI3K,AKT,and mTOR as well as myelin basic protein and apoptotic markers,such as Bax,Bcl-2,and caspase-3,were examined using ELISA kits.Furthermore,the levels of various neuroinflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress markers were assessed.Additionally,the neurological severity score,brain water content,gross brain pathology,and hematoma size were used to indicate neurological function and brain edema.Results CPH was found to be neuroprotective by restoring neurobehavioral alterations and significantly reducing the elevated PI3K,AKT,and mTOR protein levels,and modulating the apoptotic markers such as Bax,Bcl-2,and caspase-3 in rat brain homogenate.CPH substantially reduced the inflammatory cytokines like interleukin(IL)-1β,IL-6,and tumor necrosis factor-α.CPH administration restored the neurotransmitters GABA,glutamate,acetylcholine,dopamine,and various oxidative stress markers.Conclusion Our results show that CPH may be a promising therapeutic approach for overcoming neuronal damage caused by the overexpression of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway in ICH-induced neurological dysfunctions in rats.Kuldeep Singh JADAUN Sidharth MEHAN Aarti SHARMA Ehraz Mehmood SIDDIQUI Sumit KUMAR NaifALSUHAYMI 2022Current Medical Science2022,42,2:5
2Gliosarcoma:A rare variant of glioblastoma multiforme in paediatric patient:Case report and review of literature显示文摘Gliosarcoma is rare central nervous system tumour and a variant of glioblastoma multiforme with bimorphic histological pattern of glial and sarcomatous differentiation. It occurs in elderly between 5^(th) and 6^(th) decades of life and extremely rare in children. It is highly aggressive tumour and managed like glioblastoma multiforme. A 12-year-old female child presented with complaints of headache and vomiting from 15d and blurring of vision from 3d. Magnetic resonance imaging of brain shows heterogeneous mass in right parieto-occipital cortex. A right parieto-occipito-temporal craniotomy with complete excision of mass revealed a primary glioblastoma on histopathological investigation. Treatment consists of maximum surgical excision followed by adjuvant radiotherapy. The etiopathogenesis, treatment modalities and prognosis is discussed. 7Attenuation characteristics of monolayer graphene by Pi-and T-networks modeling of multilayer microstrip line显示文摘The impedances of Pi-and T-networks are obtained from the measured S-parameters of the multilayer microstrip line by modeling as an attenuator. The changes in impedances have been analyzed for the properties of various superstrates at the microwave ranges. With graphene on glass and graphene on quartz loadings, the impedances have increased and shifted towards lower frequency more in Pi-network than T-network modeling.This shift has become more prominent at higher frequency for the graphene on glass than graphene on quartz.A little increase in attenuation is found for graphene on glass or quartz than bare glass and quartz. 9MOLECULAR DYNAMICS SIMULATION OF POLYMER/CARBON NANOTUBE COMPOSITES显示文摘In this paper, we present classical molecular dynamics(MD) simulations of model polymer/CNT composites constructed by embedding a single wall(10,10) CNT into two different amorphous polymer matrices: poly(methyl methacrylate) and poly{(m-phenylene-vinylene)-co-[(2,5-dioctoxy-p-phenylene) vinylene]}, respectively, with different volume fractions. The simulation results support the idea that it is possible to use CNTs to mechanically reinforce an appropriate polymer matrix, especially in the longitudinal direction of the nanotube. The comparison of the simulation results with the macroscopic rule-of-mixtures for composite systems showed that for strong interfacial interactions, there can be large deviations of the results from the rule-ofmixtures. 13Mechanical properties and thermal conductivity of pristine and functionalized carbon nanotube reinforced metallic glass composites:A molecular dynamics approach显示文摘This work uses the molecular dynamics approach to study the effects of functionalization of carbon nanotubes(CNTs)on the mechanical properties of Cu64Zr36 metallic glass(MG).Three types of functional groups,carboxylic,vinyl and ester were used.The effect of CNT volume fraction(Vf)and the number of functional groups attached to CNT,on the mechanical properties and thermal conductivity of CNT-MG composites was analysed using Biovia Materials Studio.At lower values of Vf(from 0 to 5%),the percentage increase in Young’s modulus was approximately 66%.As the value of Vf was increased further(from 5 to 12%),the rate of increase in Young’s modulus was reduced to 16%.The thermal conductivity was found to increase from 1.52 W/mK at Vf?0%to 5.88 W/mK at Vf?12%,thus giving an increase of approximately 286%.Functionalization of SWCNT reduced the thermal conductivity of the SWCNT-MG composites.Sumit Sharma S.K.Tiwari Sagar Shakya 2021Defence Technology(防务技术)2021,17,1:0

18Effect of graphene and its derivatives on thermo-mechanical properties of phase change materials and its applications:a comprehensive review显示文摘Phase change materials(PCMs)play a leading role in overcoming the growing need of advanced thermal management for the storage and release of thermal energy which is to be used for different solar applications.However,the effectiveness of PCMs is greatly affected by their poor thermal conductivity.Therefore,in the present review the progress made in deploying the graphene(Gr)in PCMs in the last decade for providing the solution to the aforementioned inadequacy is presented and discussed in detail.Gr and its derivatives((Gr oxide(GO),Gr aerogel(GA)and Gr nanoplatelets(GNPs))based PCMs can improve the thermal conductivity and shape stability,which may be attributed to the extra ordinary thermo-physical properties of Gr.Moreover,it is expected from this review that the advantages and disadvantages of using Gr nanoparticles provide a deep insight and help the researchers in finding out the exact basic properties and finally the applications of Gr can be enhanced.In this work,Gr and its derivatives based PCMs was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),X-ray diffraction spectroscopy(XRD),and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)by which crystal structure was known,phase was identified along with the knowledge of surface structure respectively.The increase in the mass fraction(%)of the filler(Gr and its derivatives)led to even better thermo-physical properties and thermal stability.The thermal characterization was also done by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),thermo gravimetric analysis(TGA)and thermal conductivity tests.The enthalpy of freezing and melting showed that Gr and its derivatives based PCMs had a very high energy storage capability as reflected in its various applications.Sumit NAGAR Kamal SHARMA A.K.PANDEY V.V.TYAGI 2022Frontiers in Energy2022,16,2:0
19Novel diagnostic imaging techniques and applications in anterior uveitis,intermediate uveitis,and scleritis显示文摘Uveitis can cause significant visual morbidity and often affects younger adults of working age.Anterior uveitis,or inflammation limited to the anterior chamber(AC),iris,and/or ciliary body comprises the majority of uveitis cases.Current clinical biomarkers and conventional grading scales for intraocular inflammation are mostly subjective and have only a moderate degree of interobserver reliability,and as such they have significant limitations when used in either clinical practice or research related to uveitis.In recent years,novel imaging techniques and applications have emerged that can supplement exam findings to detect subclinical disease,monitor quantitative biomarkers of disease progression or treatment effect,and provide overall a more nuanced understanding of disease entities.The first part of this review discusses automated algorithms for optical coherence tomography(OCT)image processing and analysis as a means to assess and describe intraocular inflammation with higher resolution than that afforded by conventional AC and vitreous cell ordinal grading scales.The second half of the review focuses on anterior segment OCT and OCT angiography(OCTA)in scleritis and iritis,especially with regards to their ability to directly image and characterize the pathologic structures and vasculature underlying these diseases.Finally,we briefly review experimental animal research with promising but more distant human clinical applications,including in vivo molecular microscopy of inflammatory markers and investigation of gold nanoparticles as a potential contrast agent in OCT imaging.Imaging modalities are discussed in the broader context of trends within the field of uveitis towards greater objectivity and quantifiable outcome measures and biomarkers.Andrew Zheng Sumit Sharma 2020Annals of Eye Science2020,,3:0
