| 1 | Influence of Nitric Acid Concentration on Characteristics of Olive Stone Based Activated Carbon显示文摘In this work we investigated the effect of nitric acid concentration on the pore structure,surface chemistry and liquid phase adsorption of olive stone based activated carbon prepared by mixing process using phosphoric acid and steam as activating agents.Chemicals and textural characterization show that the increase of HNO3concentration increases considerably the total acidic groups but decreases specific surface area and pore volume.The study of adsorption in aqueous solutions of two organics,phenol and methylene blue,on raw and oxidized activated carbon indicates that the treatment of mixed activated carbon with different concentrations of nitric acid improves the adsorbent capacity for methylene blue at HNO3concentrations less or equal to 2 mol·L 1,while it has a negative effect on phenol adsorption. | Nouha Soudani Souad Souissi-najar Abdelmottaleb Ouederni | 2013 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2013,21,12: | 6 |

| 3 | Effects of ketogenic diet and ketone bodies on the cardiovascular system:Concentration matters显示文摘Ketone bodies have emerged as central mediators of metabolic health,and multiple beneficial effects of a ketogenic diet,impacting metabolism,neuronal pathologies and,to a certain extent,tumorigenesis,have been reported both in animal models and clinical research.Ketone bodies,endogenously produced by the liver,act pleiotropically as metabolic intermediates,signaling molecules,and epigenetic modifiers.The endothelium and the vascular system are central regulators of the organism’s metabolic state and become dysfunctional in cardiovascular disease,atherosclerosis,and diabetic micro-and macrovascular complications.As physiological circulating ketone bodies can attain millimolar concentrations,the endothelium is the first-line cell lineage exposed to them.While in diabetic ketoacidosis high ketone body concentrations are detrimental to the vasculature,recent research revealed that ketone bodies in the low millimolar range may exert beneficial effects on endothelial cell(EC)functioning by modulating the EC inflammatory status,senescence,and metabolism.Here,we review the long-held evidence of detrimental cardiovascular effects of ketoacidosis as well as the more recent evidence for a positive impact of ketone bodies—at lower concentrations—on the ECs metabolism and vascular physiology and the subjacent cellular and molecular mechanisms.We also explore arising controversies in the field and discuss the importance of ketone body concentrations in relation to their effects.At low concentration,endogenously produced ketone bodies upon uptake of a ketogenic diet or supplemented ketone bodies(or their precursors)may prove beneficial to ameliorate endothelial function and,consequently,pathologies in which endothelial damage occurs. | Souad Nasser Varvara Vialichka Marta Biesiekierska Aneta Balcerczyk Luciano Pirola | 2020 | World Journal of Diabetes2020,11,12: | 4 |

| 5 | Adsorption of dyes onto activated carbon prepared from olive stones显示文摘Activated carbon was produced from olive stones(OSAC) by a physical process in two steps. The adsorption character of this activated carbon was tested on three colour dyes molecules in aqueous solution: Methylene blue(MB), Rhodamine B(RB) and Congo Red(CR). The adsorption equilibrium was studied through isotherms construction at 30℃, which were well described by Langmuir model. The adsorption capacity on the OSAC was estimated to be 303 mg/g, 217 mg/g and 167 mg/g respectively for MB, RB and CR. This activated carbon has a similar adsorption properties to that of commercial ones and show the same adsorption performances. The adsorption kinetics of the MB molecule in aqueous solution at different initial concentrations by OSAC was also studied. Kinetic experiments were well fitted by a simple intra-particle diffusion model. | 20 | Exploitation of Locality for Energy Efficiency for Breadth First Search in Fine-Grain Execution Models显示文摘In the upcoming exa-scale era,the exploitation of data locality in parallel programs is very important because it benefits both program performance and energy efficiency.However,this is a hard topic for graph algorithms such as the Breadth First Search(BFS)due to the irregular data access patterns.This study analyzes the exploitation of data locality in the BFS and its impact on the energy efficiency with the Codelet fine-grain dataflow-inspired execution model.The Codelet Model more efficiently exploits data locality than the OpenMP-like execution models which traditionally focus on coarse-grain parallelism inside loops.A BFS algorithm is then given to exploit the locality between two loop iterations that belong to two different loops(inter-loop locality).This kind of locality can be exploited by the Codelet Model but not by traditional coarse-grain execution models like OpenMP.Tests were performed on fsim which is a simulation platform developed by Intel for the Ubiquitous High Performance Computing(UHPC)project to design future exa-scale architectures.The results show that this BFS algorithm saves up to 7%of the dynamic energy for memory accesses compared to a BFS implementation based on OpenMP loop scheduling. | Chen Chen Souad Koliai Guang Gao | 2013 | Tsinghua Science and Technology2013,18,6: | 1 |
