2Experimental study of ice accretion effects on aerodynamic performance of an NACA 23012 airfoil显示文摘In this paper,the effects of icing on an NACA 23012 airfoil have been studied.Experiments were applied on the clean airfoil,runback ice,horn ice,and spanwise ridge ice at a Reynolds number of 0.6 106 over angles of attack from 8° to 20°,and then results are compared.Generally,it is found that ice accretion on the airfoil can contribute to formation of a flow separation bubble on the upper surface downstream from the leading edge.In addition,it is made clear that spanwise ridge ice provides the greatest negative effect on the aerodynamic performance of the airfoil.In this case,the stall angle drops about 10° and the maximum lift coefficient reduces about50% which is hazardous for an airplane.While horn ice leads to a stall angle drop of about 4° and a maximum lift coefficient reduction to 21%,runback ice has the least effect on the flow pattern around the airfoil and the aerodynamic coefficients so as the stall angle decreases 2° and the maximum lift reduces about 8%.Sohrab Gholamhosein Pouryoussefi Masoud Mirzaei Mohammad-Mahdi Nazemi Mojtaba Fouladi Alireza Doostmahmoudi 2016Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2016,29,3:12

4Rapid high-temperature synthesis of SAPO-34 nanoparticles显示文摘Decreasing particle size results in larger increase of external surface area and shorter diffusion path,both reducing mass and heat transfer resistances in catalysis and sorption.A rapid high-temperature hydrothermal synthesis method was developed to synthesize uniform nanoparticles of SAPO-34 zeolite with high crystallinity.To investigate the effects of temperature and synthesis time on purity and crys-tallinity of the final products,the crystallization temperature was increased from 468 to 673 K while the synthesis time was decreased from 24 h to 45 min.The products were characterized by XRD and SEM techniques.It was found that high temperature and short synthesis time reduce the particle size and change the morphology of the SAPO-34 final product.Mahdi Dargahi Hossein Kazemian Mohammad Soltanieh Sohrab Rohani Morteza Hosseinpour 2011Particuology2011,9,5:7
5Super-hydrophobic stearic acid layer formed on anodized high purified magnesium for improving corrosion resistance of bioabsorbable implants显示文摘Magnesium and its alloys are ideal candidates for bioabsorbable implants.However,they can dissolve too rapidly in the human body for most applications.In this research,high purified magnesium(HP-Mg)was coated with stearic acid(SA)to slow the corrosion rate of magnesium in simulated body fluid at 37±1°C.HP-Mg was anodized(AC and DC voltages)to form an oxide/hydroxide layer,and then it was immersed in a SA solution.The SA coated layer surface,anodized layer,and the thickness of the oxide/hydroxide layer were investigated with Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM).Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)and potentiodynamic polarization(PDP)were used to estimate the corrosion rate of HP-Mg specimens.The results confirm that the hydrophobic coating can decrease the corrosion rate of HP-Mg by more than 1000x.The protectiveness of coated layer for anodized specimens with AC voltage continue for 2 and 3 weeks.For the HP-Mg coated anodized with DC voltage,the coated layer could improve the corrosion resistance for only a few days.Sohrab Khalifeh T.David Burleigh 2018Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2018,6,4:6
6Fluidization of nano and sub-micron powders using mechanical vibration显示文摘The fluidization behavior of nano and sub-micron powders belonging to group C of Geldart's classification was studied in a mechanically vibrated fiuidized bed(vibro-fiuidized bed) at room temperature. Pretreated air was used as the fiuidizing gas whereas SiO2,Al2O3,TiO2,ZrSi,BaSO4 were solid particles. Mechanical vibration amplitudes were 0.1,0.25,0.35,0.45 mm,while the frequencies were 5,20,30,40 Hz to investigate the effects of frequency and amplitude of mechanical vibration on minimum fiuidization velocity,bed pressure drop,bed expansion,and the agglomerate size and size distribution. A novel technique was employed to determine the apparent minimum fluidization velocity from pressure drop signals. Richardson-Zaki equation was employed as nano-particles showed fiuid like behavior when fiuidized. The average size of agglomerates formed on top of the bed was smaller than those at the bottom. Size distribution of agglomerates on top was also more uniform compared to those near the distributor. Larger agglomerates at the bottom of the bed formed a small fraction of the bed particles. Average size of submicron agglomerates decreased with increasing the frequency of vibration,however nano particles were less sensitive to change in vibration frequency. 7Geomechanical analysis of the influence of CO2 injection location on fault stability显示文摘Large amounts of carbon dioxide(CO_2) should be injected in deep saline formations to mitigate climate change,implying geomechanical challenges that require further understanding.Pressure build-up induced by CO_2 injection will decrease the effective stresses and may affect fault stability.Geomechanical effects of overpressure induced by CO_2 injection either in the hanging wall or in the foot wall on fault stability are investigated.CO_2 injection in the presence of a low-permeable fault induces pressurization of the storage formation between the injection well and the fault.The low permeability of the fault hinders fluid flow across it and leads to smaller overpressure on the other side of the fault.This variability in the fluid pressure distribution gives rise to differential total stress changes around the fault that reduce its stability.Despite a significant pressure build-up induced by the fault,caprock stability around the injection well is not compromised and thus,CO_2 leakage across the caprock is unlikely to happen.The decrease in fault stability is similar regardless of the side of the fault where CO_2 is injected.Simulation results show that fault core permeability has a significant effect on fault stability,becoming less affected for high-permeable faults.An appropriate pressure management will allow storing large quantities of CO_2 without inducing fault reactivation.Victor Vilarrasa Roman Makhnenko Sohrab Gheibi 2016Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2016,8,6:4
8Quantitative and financial evaluation of non-timber forest products(case study:Zemkan basin forests,West of Iran)显示文摘Although Zagros forests in western Iran lack industrial timber value due to the severe climate and socioeconomics problems, non-timber products are of great value and importance due to their high economic potential and also their potential to improve the welfare of forestdwelling and forest-fringe villagers. This study was done in the forests of the Zemkan basin, an important part of central Zagros forests, Iran, to recognize the non-timber forest products(NTFPS), investigate their potential economic value and role in people's livelihood. Data, collected using forest cruising, participatory observations, interviews with indigenous and local persons and experts, identified wild pistachio resin, wild pistachio fruit, oak fruit and oak syrup(Shokeh manna) among the non-timber products in this basin with total potential harvestable NTFPs of 77.16,771.602, 13248.68, and 1324.868 tons per year,respectively. The economic rent from NTFPs is 33 US$/ha/year and its total expected values with consideration of real interest rate when the exploiter invests the capital in the bank(6.4 %) and when money is borrowed from the bank to execute the incorporated projects(8.4 %) are $516/ha and $393/ha, respectively. Furthermore, families' economic share from potential profit of NTFPs is annually$601 per household. In addition wild pistachio resin has the highest share of the total potential profit of NTFPs and its equal to 51 % of the total of potential profit of NTFPs.Therefore, it is suggested that decisions be made to increase the infrastructure and strengthen the local selling market to enhance the cash income from NTFPs. 9Hepatitis B vaccination in patients with inflammatory bowel disease显示文摘AIM:To determine the prevalence for hepatitis B virus(HBV) and HBV screening and vaccination practices for inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).METHODS:This study is a retrospective,cross-sectional observational study.A retrospective chart review was performed in 500 patients who have been consecutively treated for IBD between September 2008 and January 2013 at the Rush University Medical Center Gastroenterology section.The patients were identified through the electronic medical record with the criteria that they attended the gastroenterology clinic,and that they had a diagnosis of IBD at the time of visit discharge.Once identified,each record was analyzed to determine whether the subject had been infected with HBV in the past,already been vaccinated against HBV,or advised to get vaccinated and followed through with the recommended vaccination.RESULTS:About 254 out of 500 patients(51%) had HBV screening ordered.Among those ordered to have screening tests,86% followed through with HBV serology.Gastroenterology physicians had significantly different screening ratios from each other(P < 0.001).There were no significant differences in the ratios of HBV screening when IBD specialists were compared to other gastroenterology physicians(0.505 ± 0.023 vs 0.536 ± 0.066,P = 0.66).Of those 220 patients screened,51% of IBD patients were found not to be immune against HBV.Approximately 50% of gastroenterology physicians recommended HBV vaccinations to their patients in whom serology was negative for antibodies against HBV.IBD specialists recommended vaccinations to a higher percentage of their patients compared to other gastroenterology physicians(0.168 ± 0.019 vs 0.038 ± 0.026,P = 0.015).Present and/or past HBV infection was found in 3.6% of the patients who had serology checked.There was no statistically significant difference in the prevalence of hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg) between our study and that reported in previous studies done in Spain(4/220 vs 14/2076 respectively,P = 0.070); and in France(4/220 vs 3/315 respectively,P = 0.159).But,the prevalence of anti-HBcAb in this study was less than that reported in the study in Spain(7/220 vs 155/2076 respectively,P = 0.006); and was not sig-nificantly different from that reported in the study in France(7/220 vs 8/315 respectively,P = 0.313).CONCLUSION:The prevalence of HBsAg in our IBD patients was not higher than previously reported European studies.Most IBD patients are not routinely screened or vaccinated against HBV at a tertiary referral center in the United States.Ruwaida Ben Musa Anuhya Gampa Sanjib Basu Ali Keshavarzian Garth Swanson Michael Brown Rana Abraham Keith Bruninga John Losurdo Mark DeMeo Sohrab Mobarhan David Shapiro Ece Mutlu 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,41:2
10Evolving simple-to-use method to determine watereoil relative permeability in petroleum reservoirs显示文摘In the current research,a new approach constructed based on artificial intelligence concept is introduced to determine water/oil relative permeability at various conditions.To attain an effective tool,various artificial intelligence approaches such as artificial neural network(ANN),hybrid of genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization(HGAPSO)are examined.Intrinsic potential of feed-forward artificial neural network(ANN)optimized by different optimization algorithms are composed to estimate water/oil relative permeability.The optimization methods such as genetic algorithm,particle swarm optimization and hybrid approach of them are implemented to obtain optimal connection weights involved in the developed smart technique.The constructed intelligent models are evaluated by utilizing extensive experimental data reported in open literature.Results obtained from the proposed intelligent tools were compared with the corresponding experimental relative permeability data.The average absolute deviation between the model predictions and the relevant experimental data was found to be less than 0.1%for hybrid genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization technique.It is expected that implication of HGAPSO-ANN in relative permeability of water/oil estimation leads to more reliable water/oil relative permeability predictions,resulting in design of more comprehensive simulation and further plans for reservoir production and management.Mohammad Ali Ahmadi Sohrab Zendehboudi Maurice B.Dusseault Ioannis Chatzis 2016Petroleum2016,2,1:2

12Cavity effect on Rayleigh wave dispersion and P-wave refraction显示文摘Sinkholes and cavities can represent serious hazards to human safety and urban infrastructures,cause roadbed subsidence,and so on.It is therefore essential to evaluate various sinkholes in different depths and sizes to assess the risk of collapse.This paper evaluates the effect of different cavities on Rayleigh-wave propagation and body(P)wave refraction.Rayleigh(R)wave propagation is analyzed according to the classical multi-channel analysis of surface waves(MASW)method also considering the R-wave backscattering.Synthetic seismic traces are computed by means of finite element modeling(FEM)for cavity and intrusion at different depths and sizes.Furthermore,field acquisition data is used to verify the detection effect of a cavity on R-and P-waves.The results show that the presence of backscattered R-waves and the changes in the R-wave velocity spectrum can help in cavity identification.Additional possible evidence is represented by significant changes in the refraction travel times over the cavity location.It can be concluded that the field data are in good agreement with the synthetic,and it could be effective to consider the results of both R-and P-wave analysis in order to efficiently identify the cavities.Hossein Rahnema Sohrab Mirassi Giancarlo Dal Moro 2021Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2021,20,1:2

15Adaptive controller design based on input-output signal selection for voltage source converter high voltage direct current systems to improve power system stability显示文摘An input-output signal selection based on Phillips-Heffron model of a parallel high voltage alternative current/high voltage direct current(HVAC/HVDC) power system is presented to study power system stability. It is well known that appropriate coupling of inputs-outputs signals in the multivariable HVDC-HVAC system can improve the performance of designed supplemetary controller. In this work, different analysis techniques are used to measure controllability and observability of electromechanical oscillation mode. Also inputs–outputs interactions are considered and suggestions are drawn to select the best signal pair through the system inputs-outputs. In addition, a supplementary online adaptive controller for nonlinear HVDC to damp low frequency oscillations in a weakly connected system is proposed. The results obtained using MATLAB software show that the best output-input for damping controller design is rotor speed deviation as out put and phase angle of rectifier as in put.
