| 1 | Vascular calcification in chronic kidney disease: Pathogenesis and clinical implication显示文摘Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among patients with chronic kidney disease(CKD). Vascular calcification(VC) is one of the independent risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular mortality in both the general population and CKD patients. Earlier evidence revealed substantially higher prevalence of VC in young adults on chronic hemodialysis compared to the general population in the same age range, indicating the influence of CKDrelated risk factors on the development of VC. Pathogenesis of VC involves an active, highly organized cellular transformation of vascular smooth muscle cells to bone forming cells evidenced by the presence of bone matrix proteins in the calcified arterial wall. VC occurs in both the intima and the media of arterial wall with medial calcification being more prevalent in CKD. In addition to traditional cardiovascular risks, risk factors specific to CKD such as phosphate retention, excess of calcium, history of dialysis, active vitamin D therapy in high doses and deficiency of calcification inhibitors play important roles in promoting the development of VC. Non-contrast multi-slice computed tomography has often been used to detect coronary artery calcifi-cation. Simple plain radiographs of the lateral lumbar spine and pelvis can also detect VC in the abdominal aorta and femoral and iliac arteries. Currently, there is no specific therapy to reverse VC. Reduction of calcium load, lowering phosphate retention using non-calcium containing phosphate binders, and moderate doses of active vitamin D may attenuate progression. | 3 | Microstructure of premixed propane/air flame in the transition from laminar to turbulent combustion显示文摘In order to explore the flame structure and propagation behavior of premixed propane/air in the transi-tion from laminar to turbulent combustion, the high speed camera and Schlieren images methods were used to record the photograph of flame propagation process in a semi-vented pipe. Meanwhile, the super-thin thermocouple and ionization current probe methods were applied to detect the temperature distribution and reaction intensity of combustion reaction. The characteristics of propane/air flame propagation and microstructure were analyzed in detail by the experimental results coupled with chemical reaction thermodynamics. In the test, the particular tulip flame behavior and the formation process in the laminar-turbulent transition were disclosed clearly. | 4 | Role of different imaging modalities of vascular calcification in predicting outcomes in chronic kidney disease显示文摘Vascular calcification(VC) is common among patientswith chronic kidney disease(CKD).The severity of VC is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular events and mortality.Risk factors for VC include traditional cardiovascular risk factors as well as CKD-related risk factors such as increased calcium and phosphate load.VC is observed in arteries of all sizes from small arterioles to aorta,both in the intima and the media of arterial wall.Several imaging techniques have been utilized in the evaluation of the extent and the severity of VC.Plain radiographs are simple and readily available but with the limitation of decreased sensitivity and subjective and semi-quantitative quantification methods.Mammography,especially useful among women,offers a unique way to study breast arterial calcification,which is largely a medial-type calcification.Ultrasonography is suitable for calcification in superficial arteries.Analyses of wall thickness and lumen size are also possible.Computed tomography(CT) scan,the gold standard,is the most sensitive technique for evaluation of VC.CT scan of coronary artery calcification is not only useful for cardiovascular risk stratification but also offers an accurate and an objective analysis of the severity and progression. | Sinee Disthabanchong Sarinya Boongird | 2017 | World Journal of Nephrology2017,6,3: | 8 |
| 5 | Development and utilization of a new chemically-induced soybean library with a high mutation density显示文摘Mutagenized populations have provided important materials for introducing variation and identifying gene function in plants. In this study, an ethyl methanesulfonate(EMS)-induced soybean(Glycine max) population,consisting of 21,600 independent M_2 lines, was developed.Over 1,000 M_(4(5))families, with diverse abnormal phenotypes for seed composition, seed shape, plant morphology and maturity that are stably expressed across different environments and generations were identified. Phenotypic analysis of the population led to the identification of a yellow pigmentation mutant, gyl, that displayed significantly decreased chlorophyll(Chl) content and abnormal chloroplast development. Sequence analysis showed that gyl is allelic to Minn Gold, where a different single nucleotide polymorphism variation in the Mg-chelatase subunit gene(ChlI1a) results in golden yellow leaves. A cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence marker was developed and may be applied to marker-assisted selection for the golden yellow phenotype in soybean breeding. | 6 | Fujita phenomena in nonlinear pseudo-parabolic system显示文摘This paper deals with the Cauchy problem to the nonlinear pseudo-parabolic system ut-△u-αut=vp,vt-△v-αvt=uqwith p,q 1 and pq>1,where the viscous terms of third order are included.We first find the critical Fujita exponent,and then determine the second critical exponent to characterize the critical space-decay rate of initial data in the co-existence region of global and non-global solutions.Moreover,time-decay profiles are obtained for the global solutions.It can be found that,diferent from those for the situations of general semilinear heat systems,we have to use distinctive techniques to treat the influence from the viscous terms of the highest order.To fix the non-global solutions,we exploit the test function method,instead of the general Kaplan method for heat systems.To obtain the global solutions,we apply the Lp-Lq technique to establish some uniform Lmtime-decay estimates.In particular,under a suitable classification for the nonlinear parameters and the initial data,various Lmtime-decay estimates in the procedure enable us to arrive at the time-decay profiles of solutions to the system.It is mentioned that the general scaling method for parabolic problems relies heavily on regularizing efect to establish the compactness of approximating solutions,which cannot be directly realized here due to absence of the smooth efect in the pseudo-parabolic system. | YANG JinGe CAO Yang ZHENG SiNing | 2014 | Science China Mathematics2014,57,3: | 5 |
| 7 | Are there ways to attenuate arterial calcification and improve cardiovascular outcomes in chronic kidney disease?显示文摘The risk of cardiovascular mortality among patientswith end-stage renal disease is several times higherthan general population. Arterial calcification, a markerof atherosclerosis and a predictor of cardiovascularmortality, is common in chronic kidney disease(CKD).The presence of traditional cardiovascular risk factorssuch as diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and ad-vanced age cannot fully explain the high prevalence ofatherosclerosis and arterial calcification. Other factorsspecific to CKD such as hyperphosphatemia, excess ofcalcium, high dose active vitamin D and prolonged di-alysis vintage play important roles in the developmentof arterial calcification. Due to the significant healthrisk, it is prudent to attempt to lower arterial calcifica-tion burden in CKD. Treatment of hyperlipidemia withstatin has failed to lower atherosclerotic and arteriacalcification burden. Data on diabetes and blood pres-sure controls as well as smoking cessation on cardio-vascular outcomes in CKD population are limited. Cur-rently available treatment options include non-calciumcontaining phosphate binders, low dose active vitamin D, calcimimetic agent and perhaps bisphosphonates, vitamin K and sodium thiosulfate. | 8 | Effects of Different Drying Methods on the Functional and Structural Properties of Dietary Fiber from Peanut Shell显示文摘[Objectives] This study was conducted to investigate the drying methods,functional and structure properties of dietary fiber( DF) from peanut shells.[Methods]Peanut shells were used as a raw material to prepare peanut shell dietary fiber( DF) by hot air drying( HA) and vacuum freeze drying( VF),respectively,and their functional and structural characteristics were compared in detail. [Results]The solubility,water holding capacity,oil holding capacity and swelling capacity of HA-DF and VF-DF were 2. 15 %,7. 63 g/g,7. 73 g/g,10. 35 ml/g and 3. 85 %,14. 98 g/g,15. 25 g/g,15. 85 ml/g,respectively. The total phenol contents were 2. 623 and 5. 173 mg GAE/g,respectively. The IC(50) values of ·OH,O2^-· and DPPH free radicals were 4. 16 and 4. 09 mg/ml,7. 90 and 3. 32 mg/ml,and 3. 19 and 3. 09 mg/ml,respectively. The molecular weight of VF-DF was smaller,and it had narrow molecular weight distribution and denser particles. Electron microscopy showed that VF-DF had a porous network like honeycomb and swelled structure. | 9 | Enhanced thermoelectric performance in Cl-doped BiSbSe_(3) with optimal carrier concentration and effective mass显示文摘Possessing inherently low thermal conductivity,BiSbSe_(3) is a promising thermoelectric material for medium temperature.Therefore,to substantially optimize the thermoelectric performance of BiSbSe_(3),researchers mainly focus on the strategies to improve its electrical transport properties.Among these strongly coupled thermoelectric parameters,carrier concentration and effective mass are two intrinsic variables to decisively affect the electrical transport properties.In this work,Cl as a donor dopant is effective to provide extra electrons in n-type BiSbSe_(3),and the carrier concentration and effective mass can be well optimized simultaneously with increasing Cl content owing to the multiple conduction bands in BiSbSe_(3).What’s more,maximum weighted mobility~53 cm^(2)V^(-1)s^(-1)is obtained in Cl-doped BiSbSe_(3),which contributes to a largely enhanced power factor~4.8μW cm^(-1)K^(-2)at room temperature and outperforms other halogen-doped BiSbSe_(3) samples.Finally,combining the significantly enhanced power factor and maintained low thermal conductivity,a maximum ZT~1.0 is achieved in Cl-doped BiSbSe_(3) at 800 K. | Sining Wang Lizhong Su Yuting Qiu Yu Xiao Li-Dong Zhao | 2021 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,11: | 2 |
| 10 | Mineral and bone disorder after kidney transplantation显示文摘After successful kidney transplantation, accumulated waste products and electrolytes are excreted and regulatory hormones return to normal levels. Despite the improvement in mineral metabolites and mineral regulating hormones after kidney transplantation,abnormal bone and mineral metabolism continues to present in most patients. During the first 3 mo, fibroblast growth factor-23(FGF-23) and parathyroid hormone levels decrease rapidly in association with an increase in 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D production. Renal phosphate excretion resumes and serum calcium, if elevated before, returns toward normal levels. FGF-23 excess during the first 3-12 mo results in exaggerated renal phosphate loss and hypophosphatemia occurs in some patients. After 1 year, FGF-23 and serum phosphate return to normal levels but persistent hyperparathyroidism remains in some patients. The progression of vascular calcification also attenuates. High dose corticosteroid and persistent hyperparathyroidism are the most important factors influencing abnormal bone and mineral metabolism in long-term kidney transplant(KT) recipients. Bone loss occurs at a highest rate during the first 6-12 mo after transplantation. Measurement of bone mineral density is recommended in patients with estimated glomerular filtration rate > 30 mL/min. The use of active vitamin D with or without bisphosphonate is effective in preventing early post-transplant bone loss. Steroid withdrawal regimen is also beneficial in preservation of bone mass in long-term. Calcimimetic is an alternative therapy to parathyroidectomy in KT recipients with persistent hyperparathyroidism. If parathyroidectomy is required, subtotal to near total parathyroidectomy is recommended.
