1Comparison of visual analogue scale (VAS) and the Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) score in evaluation of post septoplasty patients显示文摘Objective:To compare and correlate the efficacy of the NOSE score&the VAS score in determining the symptomatic benefit in patients undergoing septoplasty.Materials and methods:Eighty patients with deviated nasal septum undergoing septoplasty were included in the study.NOSE score&VAS score(out of 100)was documented before and after surgery.Results were correlated and compared statistically.Results:In the NOSE score,the most bothersome symptom was trouble breathing through the nose(85.83);followed by Nasal obstruction or blockage(82.50).Wilcoxon test showed significant improvement with NOSE score and VAS score in all patients at 1 month and 3 months.Spearman’s coefficient showed a positive correlation between the two,though the score improvement and patient satisfaction rate was significantly high with NOSE score.Conclusions:NOSE score and the VAS score both provide effective framework for evaluating treatment responses after septoplasty.However,the NOSE score showed higher improvement and better patient satisfaction rate when used to measure of nasal obstruction as compared to the VAS score.Radhika Hiren Shukla Sanjana Vijay Nemade Kiran Jaywant Shinde 2020World Journal of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery2020,6,1:28
2Comparative clinical trial of S-pantoprazole versus racemic pantoprazole in the treatment of gastro-esophageal reflux disease显示文摘AIM: To compare the effi cacy and tolerability of S-pan- toprazole (20 mg once a day) versus racemic Panto- prazole (40 mg once a day) in the treatment of gastro- esophageal reflux disease (GERD). METHODS: This multi-centre, randomized, double-blind clinical trial consisted of 369 patients of either sex suf- fering from GERD. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either one tablet (20 mg) of S-pantoprazole once a day (test group) or 40 mg racemic pantoprazole once a day (reference group) for 28 d. Patients were evaluated for reduction in baseline on d 0, GERD symptom score on d 14 and 28, occurrence of any adverse effect during the course of therapy. Gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy was performed in 54 patients enrolled at one of the study centers at baseline and on d 28. RESULTS: Signifi cant reduction in the scores (mean and median) for heart burn (P < 0.0001), acid regurgitation (P < 0.0001), bloating (P < 0.0001), nausea (P < 0.0001) and dysphagia (P < 0.001) was achieved in both groups on d 14 with further reduction on continuing the therapy till 28 d. There was a statistically signifi cant difference in the proportion of patients showing improvement in acid regurgitation and bloating on d 14 and 28 (P = 0.004 for acid regurgitation; P = 0.03 for bloating) and heart burn on d 28 (P = 0.01) between the two groups, with a higher proportion in the test group than in the refer- ence group. Absolute risk reductions for heartburn/acid regurgitation/bloating were approximately 15% on d 14 and 10% on d 28. The relative risk reductions were 26%-33% on d 14 and 15% on d 28. GI endoscopy showed no signifi cant difference in healing of esophagitis (P = 1) and gastric erosions (P = 0.27) between the two groups. None of the patients in either group reported any adverse effect during the course of therapy.CONCLUSION: In GERD, S-pantoprazole (20 mg) is more effective than racemic pantoprazole (40 mg) in improving symptoms of heartburn, acid regurgitation, bloating and equally effective in healing esophagitis and gastric erosions. The relative risk reduction is 15%-33%. 3Combustion synthesis of Ce^(3+), Eu^(3+) and Dy^(3+) activated NaCaPO_4 phosphors显示文摘The preparation of NaCaPO4 doped with rare earth (RE) ions Ce3+, Eu3+ and Dy3+ by combustion method was described. Under UV excitation (251 nm) of NaCaPO4:Ce3+ showsd emission (367 nm) in UV range. When NaCaPO4:Dy3+ phosphor was excited at 349 nm, the emission spectrum showed intense bands at 482 nm (blue) and 576 nm (yellow). In Eu activated NaCaPO4 phosphor, the emission spectrum showed a dominant peak at 594 nm (orange) while others were at 614 and 621 nm (red) when excited at 393 nm. The prepared phosphor was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and photoluminescence (PL) measurement. Thus, the photoluminescence behavior of NaCaPO4:Ce3+ was strongly suggested for scintillator. 5Synthesis, docking and ADMET prediction of novel 5-((5-substituted-1-H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl) methyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrothieno[3,2-c]pyridine as antifungal agents显示文摘A novel series of 5-((5-substituted-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)methyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrothieno[3,2-c]pyridines 5(a–i) has been synthesized from thienopyridine hydrazide, substituted aromatic nitriles using 4-dimethylaminopyridine(DMAP) as a catalyst under microwave irradiation and evaluated for their in vitro antifungal activity. Compound 5g is found to be more potent against Candida albicans when compared with miconazole. Docking study of the newly synthesized compounds was performed, and results showed good binding mode in the active site of fungal enzyme P450 cytochrome lanosterol 14 ademethylase. ADMET properties of synthesized compounds were also analyzed and showed good drug like properties. The results of in vitro antifungal activity, docking study and ADMET prediction revealed that the synthesized compounds have potential antifungal activity and can be further optimized and developed as a lead compound.Jaiprakash N. 8Investigation of anticancer potencies of newly generated Schiff base imidazolylphenylheterocyclic-2-ylmethylenethiazole-2-amines显示文摘A new series of multi-heterocyclic Schiff base was constructed starting from 4'-(imidazol-1-yl[56_TD$IF])-acetophenone which was converted to its 2-bromoethanone precursor which on cyclic condensation with thiourea yielded final thiazol-2-amine intermediate(3) to be reacted with substituted aldehydes to generate final imidazolylphenylheterocyclic-2-ylmethylenethiazole-2-amines(4a–4i). New Schiff base was investigated for their in vitro cytotoxic efficacies against a panel of three human cancer cell lines namely, MCF7(human breast cancer), HCT116(human colon cancer), and DU145(human prostate cancer) and one normal skin fibroblast(SF). Most of these synthetic derivatives shown important cytotoxic actions against individual carcinoma cell line collections, but weak actions against SF, which is as anticipated. Observations of SAR suggested that the difference in the characteristics of substituents attached to the Schiff base function leads to the interesting variations within pharmacological effects of resultant molecular systems. 9Eosinophilic enteritis presenting as a rare cause for ileo-ileal intussusception显示文摘Eosinophilic enteritis,a relatively rare entity,usually involves gastric antrum or proximal small bowel. Our case is rarer in its involvement of the distal small bowel and presents unusually as intussusception. The disease if diagnosed in the initial stages responds well to medical treatment but if associated with complications or misdiagnosed,surgical modality is the treatment of choice. In our case,the patient presented with acute intestinal obstruction due to intussusception and emergency laparotomy with ileoileal anastomosis was done. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis as eosinophilic enteritis. 10Influence of rare-earth ions on structural and magnetic properties of CdFe_2O_4 ferrites显示文摘Nano-sized powders of rare-earth ions added CdFe2O4 ferrites were synthesized by oxalate co-precipitation method.The influence of R ions(R = Sm3+, Y3+, and La3+) on the microstructure and magnetic properties of CdFe2O4 ferrites was studied.XRD, SEM, FTIR, and magnetic hysteresis loops were used for analyzing the samples.The addition of R ions alters the structure of the powders and decreases the crystalline size, lattice constant, and grain size.The magnetic properties such as saturation magnetization, remanent magnetization, and magnetic moment increased due to addition of rare-earth ions in CdFe2O4 ferrite.The formation of secondary phase on the grain boundaries supports the abnormal growth.FTIR spectra show two absorption bands.Results suggest that the magnetic properties depend on the particular method of preparation and additives.Ashok Gadkari Tukaram Shinde Pramod Vasambekar 2010Rare Metals2010,29,2:2
