1Contrast-enhanced 3D ultrasound in the radiofrequency ablation of liver tumors显示文摘Liver metastases and hepatocellular carcinomas are two of the most common causes of cancer deaths in the world.Radiofrequency ablation(RFA) is a well recognized,effective and minimally invasive means of treating malignant hepatic tumors.This article describes the use of contrast-enhanced 3D ultrasound(CE-3DUS) in the staging,targeting and follow-up of patients with liver tumors undergoing RFA.In particular,its value in the management of large hepatic lesions will be illustrated.Current limitations of CE-3DUS and future developments in the technique will also be discussed.In summary,CE-3DUS is useful in the RFA of liver tumors with improved detection and display of occult lesions and recurrence,in the assessment of lesional geometry and orientation for a more accurate planning and guidance of multiple RFA needle electrodes in large tumors and in the evaluation of residual or recurrent disease within the immediate and/or subsequent follow-up periods.Edward Leen Senthil Kumar Shahid A Khan Gavin Low Keh Oon Ong Paul Tait Mike Averkiou 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,3:19
2Antioxidant activities of Indigofera cassioides Rottl.Ex.DC.using various in vitro assay models显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antioxidant potential of methanolic leaf extract of Indigofera cassioides(MEIC) using various in vilro antioxidant assay systems.Methods:Antioxidant and free radical scavenging activity of MEIC was assayed by using different in vitro models like ABTS, DPPH,nitric oxide,superoxide,hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radical.Reductive ability of the extract was tested by the complex formation with potassium ferricyanide.Further total phenol and flavonoid contents of the crude extract were also determined.Rutin and ascorbic acid were used as standards.Results:MEIC exhibited potent and concentration dependent free radical scavenging activity in all the tested models.Reductive ability was also found to increase with increase in MEIC concentration.Total phenol and flavonoid content determination showed that the extract is rich in phenols and flavonoids.Conclusions:All the results of the in vitro antioxidant assays reveal potent antioxidant and free radical scavenging activity of the leaves of Indigofera cassioides,equivalent to that of standard ascorbic acid and rutin.This potent antioxidant activity may be attributed to its high phenolic and flavonoid contents.R Senthil Kumar B Rajkapoor P Perumal 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,4:15

4Antihyperglycemic and antioxidant effects of Solanum xanthocarpum leaves(field grown & in vitro raised) extracts on alloxan induced diabetic rats显示文摘Objective:To investigate antidiabetic efficacy of the extract of field grown and in vitro raised leaves of Solanum xanthocarpum(S.xanthocarpum) against alloxan induced diabetic rats. Methods:The antidiabetic activity of the crude methanol extracts of the field grown and in vitro raised leaves of S.xanthocarpum at different concentrations(100-200 mg/kg bw) was tested against alloxan induced diabetic rats.The antidiabetic efficacy was validated through various biochemical parameters and the antioxidant effect was also determined.The phytochemical analyses of field grown S.xanthocarpum and in vitro rasied 5.xanthocarpum leaves were done by estimating their chlorophyll,carotenoids,total sugar,protein,amino acid and minerals contents. Results:The results revealed that the methanol extracts of both the leaves(field grown and in vitro raised) of S.xanthocarpum was efficient anti hyperglycemic agents at a concentration of 200 mg/kg bw and posses potent antioxidant activity.However,the extracts of in vitro rasied S.xanthocarpum raised leaves exhibit higher efficacy than the field grown leaves in all tested concentrations.Proximal composition and mineral analysis of S.xanthocarpum revealed higher concentration of contents in in vitro rasied S.xanthocarpum than field grown S.xanthocarpum. 5Synthesis of Aligned ZnO Nanorod Array on Silicon and Sapphire Substrates by Thermal Evaporation Technique显示文摘High density ZnO nanorods were grown by thermal evaporation of Zn powder at 700?C on Si (100) and sapphire (0001) substrates at atmospheric pressure without adding any catalyst. The nanorods were characterizated in terms of their structural and optical properties. The nanorods grown on Si have a diameter of 350-400 nm and a length of 1.2 μm while those on sapphire have a diameter of 600-800 nm and a length of 2.5 μm. During the structural characterization, it is noticed that the rods grow along the (0002) plane with perfect hexagonal facet. The room temperature photoluminescence spectrum showed a strong UV emission peak at 385 nm with a weak green band emission, which confirms that nanorods have good optical properties. It is observed that the oxygen partial pressure plays an important role to control the shape and size of the nanorods in thermal evaporation growth technique.K.M.K. Srivatsa Deepak Chhikara M. 8In vitro and in vivo anticancer activity of Indigofera cassioides Rottl.Ex. DC.显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antitumor,cytotoxic and antioxidant activities of methanolic leaf extract of Indigofera cassioides(MEIC) against transplantable tumors and human cancer cell lines.Methods:MEIC was investigated for its short term cytotoxicity on EAC and DLA cells by trypan blue dye exclusion method and in vitro cytotoxicity on HeLa,HEp-2,HEpG-2,MCF-7, HT-29,Vero and NIH 3T3 cells by MTT assay.In vivo antitumor activity was studied on EAC and DLA tumor bearing mice.Activity was assessed by monitoring the mean survival time,effect on hematological parameters,antioxidant enzyme levels and solid tumor volume.Results:MEIC exhibit potent in vitro cytotoxicity against all the tested cancer cell lines,but it was found to be safe on normal cells.The extract significantly(P<0.001) increase the mean survival time and also have a protective effect on the hemopoietic system at the tested dose levels(200 and 400 mg/kg). The extract prevented lipid peroxidation and restored the antioxidant enzymes catalase, superoxide dismutase,glutathione peroxidase and glutathione-s-transferase in the liver of tumor control animals.It also significandy(P<0.01) reduce the solid tumor volume.Conclusions:The results strongly support that MEIC shows potent antitumor and cytotoxic effects against EAC,DLA and human cancer cell lines.The extract prevents lipid peroxidation and promotes the enzymatic antioxidant defense system in tumor bearing animals which might be due to activities like scavenging of free radicals by the phytochemicals in MEIC.Raju Senthil Kumar Balasubramanian Rajkapoor Perumal Perumal 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,5:6

10响应面方法在奥氏体不锈钢与铜合金异种材料摩擦焊接头的抗拉强度最大化和界面硬度最小化中的应用(英文)显示文摘在奥氏体不锈钢与铜合金异种材料摩擦焊接过程中,采用响应面方法优化摩擦焊接工艺参数,以获得抗拉强度最大和界面硬度最小的焊接接头。采用三因素、五水平中心复合正交矩阵来确定实验条件。得到20个焊接接头,测定了焊接接头的抗拉强度和界面硬度。采用方差分析(ANOVA)方法来确定起显著作用的、主要的及相互作用的参数,使用回归分析得到经验关系模型。用设计专家软件构造响应图和等高线图来优化摩擦焊接工艺参数。用得到的经验关系模型可以有效地预测焊接接头的抗拉强度和界面硬度,其置信水平达95%。从形成的等高线图可以得到所需的摩擦焊接的最佳条件。G. 11Synthesis,characterization and sintering behavior influencing mechanical,thermal and physical properties of pure cordierite and cordierite-ceria显示文摘The study of cordierite ceramic is the need of the hour in present technological world for various advanced engineering applications.Cordierite,which has relatively poor mechanical properties,has induced the use of various dopants to study the improvement in mechanical properties.Thirst of seeking new materials with good mechanical properties has revived the research on ceria doped cordierite.Present research conducted on pure cordierite and ceria doped cordierite ceramics has investigated the results of characterization and studied their suitability.Pure cordierite and cordierite-ceria(CeO_(2))composite ceramics synthesized for various stoichiometric composition(5-20 wt%)were compacted at 240 MPa and sintered between 600℃and 1350℃for 3 h.The characterization techniques used in this study were X-ray diffraction(XRD),thermogravimetric(TG)analysis and Fourier transform infrared(FTIR).The density was calculated using the Archimedes principle.Influence of the ceria addition on cordierite’s mechanical properties such as hardness,flexural strength and fracture toughness and on thermal properties as thermal expansion was studied.XRD results confirmed the presence of cordierite and ceria in the samples heat treated at 1350℃.Results of FTIR and TG analyses revealed the formation of cordierite and the effect of ceria addition.The mechanical properties studied were found to be encouraging and confirmed the suitability of cordierite-ceria as an alternate material for cordierite.Marikkannan SENTHIL KUMAR Ayyasamy ELAYA PERUMAL T.R.VIJAYARAM 2015Journal of Advanced Ceramics2015,4,1:3
12Implications of the presence of an aberrant right hepatic artery in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy显示文摘AIM:To analyze the differences in outcomes and the clinical impact following pancreatoduodenectomy(PD)in patients with and without aberrant right hepatic artery(aRHA).METHODS:All patients undergoing PD between January 2008 and December 2012 were divided into two groups,one with aRHA and the other without.These groups were compared to identify differences in the intraoperative variables,the oncological clearance and the postoperative morbidity,mortality and hospital stay.RESULTS:A total of 225 patients underwent PD,of which 43(19.1%)patients were found to have eitheraccessory or replaced right hepatic arteries(aRHA group).The aRHA was preserved in 79%of the patients.There was no significant difference in the intraoperative blood loss but operative time was prolonged,reflecting the complexity of the procedure[420±44(240-540)min vs 480±45(300-600)min,P<0.05)].There were no differences in the incidence of postoperative complications(pancreatic leak,pancreatic fistula,delayed gastric emptying and mortality)and hospital stay.Oncological clearance in the form of positive resection margins[13(7.1%)vs 3(6.9%)]and lymph node yield were also similar in the two groups.CONCLUSION:An aRHA is found in approximately one fifth of patients undergoing PD.Preservation is technically possible in most patients and can increase the operative complexity but does not negatively affect the safety or oncological outcomes of the procedure.Ashwin Rammohan Ravichandran Palaniappan Anbalagan Pitchaimuthu Kamalakannan Rajendran Senthil Kumar Perumal Kesavan Balaraman Ravi Ramasamy Jeswanth Sathyanesan Manoharan Govindan 2014World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2014,6,1:3

15Multicentered prospective investigator initiated study to evaluate the clinical outcomes with extracorporeal cytokine adsorption device (CytoSorb®) in patients with sepsis and septic shock显示文摘BACKGROUND Sepsis is a severe clinical syndrome related to the host response to infection.The severity of infections is due to an activation cascade that will lead to an auto amplifying cytokine production:The cytokine storm.Hemoadsorption by CytoSorb®therapy is a new technology that helps to address the cytokine storm and to regain control over various inflammatory conditions.AIM To evaluate prospectively CytoSorb®therapy used as an adjunctive therapy along with standard of care in septic patients admitted to intensive care unit(ICU).METHODS This was a prospective,real time,investigator initiated,observational multicenter study conducted in patients admitted to the ICU with sepsis and septic shock.The improvement of mean arterial pressure and reduction of vasopressor needs were evaluated as primary outcome.The change in laboratory parameters,sepsis scores[acute physiology and chronic health evaluation(APACHE II)and sequential organ failure assessment(SOFA)]and vital parameters were considered as secondary outcome.The outcomes were also evaluated in the survivor and nonsurvivor group.Descriptive statistics were used;a P value<0.05 was considered RESULTS Overall,45 patients aged≥18 and≤80 years were included;the majority were men(n=31;69.0%),with mean age 47.16±14.11 years.Post CytoSorb®therapy,26 patients survived and 3 patients were lost to follow-up.In the survivor group,the percentage dose reduction in vasopressor was norepinephrine(51.4%),epinephrine(69.4%)and vasopressin(13.9%).A reduction in interleukin-6 levels(52.3%)was observed in the survivor group.Platelet count improved to 30.1%(P=0.2938),and total lung capacity count significantly reduced by 33%(P<0.0001).Serum creatinine and serum lactate were reduced by 33.3%(P=0.0190)and 39.4%(P=0.0120),respectively.The mean APACHE II score was 25.46±2.91 and SOFA scores was 12.90±4.02 before initiation of CytoSorb®therapy,and they were reduced significantly post therapy(APACHE II 20.1±2.47;P<0.0001 and SOFA 9.04±3.00;P=0.0003)in the survivor group.The predicted mortality in our patient population before CytoSorb®therapy was 56.5%,and it was reduced to 48.8%(actual mortality)after CytoSorb®therapy.We reported 75%survival rate in patients given treatment in<24 h of ICU admission and 68%survival rates in patients given treatment within 24-48 h of ICU admission.In the survivor group,the average number of days spent in the ICU was 4.44±1.66 d;while in the nonsurvivor group,the average number of days spent in ICU was 8.5±15.9 d.CytoSorb®therapy was safe and well tolerated with no adverse events reported.CONCLUSION CytoSorb®might be an effective adjuvant therapy in stabilizing sepsis and septic shock patients.However,it is advisable to start the therapy at an early stage(preferably within 24 h after onset of septic shock).Rajib Paul Prachee Sathe Senthil Kumar Shiva Prasad Ma Aleem Prashant Sakhalvalkar 2021World Journal of Critical Care Medicine2021,10,1:2

18Celastrol enhances transcription factor EB (TFEB)-mediated autophagy and mitigates Tau pathology:Implications for Alzheimer's disease therapy显示文摘Alzheimer's disease(AD),characterized by the accumulation of protein aggregates including phosphorylated Tau aggregates,is the most common neurodegenerative disorder with limited therapeutic agents.Autophagy plays a critical role in the degradation of phosphorylated Tau aggregates,and transcription factor EB(TFEB)is a master regulator of autophagy and lysosomal biogenesis.Thus,small-molecule autophagy enhancers targeting TFEB hold promise for AD therapy.Here,we found that celastrol,an active ingredient isolated from the root extracts of Tripterygium wilfordii(Lei Gong Teng in Chinese)enhanced TFEB-mediated autophagy and lysosomal biogenesis in vitro and in mouse brains.Importantly,celastrol reduced phosphorylated Tau aggregates and attenuated memory dysfunction and cognitive deficits in P301S Tau and 3xTg mice,two commonly used AD animal models.Mechanistical studies suggest that TFEB-mediated autophagy-lysosomal pathway is responsible for phosphorylated Tau degradation in response to celastrol.Overall,our findings indicate that Celastrol is a novel TFEB activator that promotes the degradation of phosphorylated Tau aggregates and improves memory in AD animal models.Therefore,Celastrol shows potential as a novel agent for the treatment and/or prevention of AD and other tauopathies.Chuanbin Yang Chengfu Su Ashok Iyaswamy Senthil Kumar Krishnamoorthi Zhou Zhu Sichang Yang Benjamin Chunkit Tong Jia Liu Sravan G.Sreenivasmurthy Xinjie Guan Yuxuan Kan Aston Jiaxi Wu Alexis Shiying Huang Jieqiong Tan Kingho Cheung Juxian Song Min Li 2022Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2022,12,4:2
