2Effects of Korean Red Ginseng on Semen Parameters in Male Infertility Patients:A Randomized,Placebo-Controlled,Double-Blind Clinical Study显示文摘Objective: To investigate the effects of Korean red ginseng(KRG) on semen parameters in male infertility patients in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. Methods: A total of 80 male infertility patients with varicocele were recruited from April 2011 to February 2012. The subjects were then divided into the following four groups: non-varicocelectomy(V)+placebo(P) group, V+P group, non-V+KRG group(1.5-g KRG daily), and V+KGR group(1.5-g KRG daily). Semen analysis was performed and hormonal levels were measured in each treatment arm after 12 weeks. Results: All groups but not the non-V+P group, showed significant improvements in sperm concentrations, motility, morphology, and viability at the end of the study. However, there were no significant differences in serum follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and testosterone among groups. The incidence of adverse events was low, and all events were assumed to be unrelated to the treatments administered. Conclusions: Although the exact mechanism by which KRG improves spermatogenesis remains unclear, KRG may be a useful agent for the treatment of male infertility. 3Voice activity detection based on deep belief networks using likelihood ratio显示文摘A novel technique is proposed to improve the performance of voice activity detection(VAD) by using deep belief networks(DBN) with a likelihood ratio(LR). The likelihood ratio is derived from the speech and noise spectral components that are assumed to follow the Gaussian probability density function(PDF). The proposed algorithm employs DBN learning in order to classify voice activity by using the input signal to calculate the likelihood ratio. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm yields improved results in various noise environments, compared to the conventional VAD algorithms. 6Position-resolved Surface Characterization and Nanofabrication Using an Optical Microscope Combined with a Nanopipette/Quartz Tuning Fork Atomic Force Microscope显示文摘In this work, we introduce position-resolved surface characterization and nanofabrication using an optical microscope(OM) combined with a nanopipette-based quartz tuning fork atomic force microscope(nanopipette/QTF-AFM) system. This system is used to accurately determine substrate position and nanoscale phenomena under ambient conditions. Solutions consisting of 5 nm Au nanoparticles, nanowires, and polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) are deposited onto the substrate through the nano/microaperture of a pulled pipette. Nano/microscale patterning is performed using a nanopipette/QTF-AFM, while position is resolved by monitoring the substrate with a custom OM. With this tool, one can perform surface characterization(force spectroscopy/microscopy) using the quartz tuning fork(QTF) sensor. 7Room temperature hydrogen sensing performances of multiple networked Ga N nanowire sensors codecorated with Au and Pt nanoparticles显示文摘The sensing performances of multiple networked Ga N nanowire(NW) sensor codecorated with Au and Pt nanoparticles were examined. The pristine Ga N nanowires show responses of approximately 108%-173% to 0.05%-0.25% H2 at room temperature. On the other hand, the Ga N nanowires decorated with Au and those decorated with Pt lead to 1.1-1.3 and 1.2-1.6 times,respectively, stronger responses to 0.05%-0.25% H2. In contrast, the Au Pt-codecorated Ga N nanowires show 1.3-2.0 times stronger responses to 0.05%-0.25% H2. In other words, the Ga N nanorods codecorated with Au and Pt nanoparticles show much stronger response to H2 gas than the Au or Pt monometal-decorated counterpart.
