2Chitosan and chemically modified chitosan beads for acid dyes sorption显示文摘The capabilities of chitosan and chitosan-EGDE(ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether) beads for removing Acid Red 37(AR 37) and Acid Blue 25(AB 25) from aqueous solution were examined.Chitosan beads were cross-linked with EGDE to enhance its chemical resistance and mechanical strength.Experiments were performed as a function of pH,agitation period and concentration of AR 37 and AB 25.It was shown that the adsorption capacities of chitosan for both acid dyes were comparatively higher than those of chitosan-EGDE.This is mainly because cross-linking using EGDE reduces the major adsorption sites-NH3+ on chitosan.Langmuir isotherm model showed the best conformity compared to Freundlich and BET.The kinetic experimental data agreed very well to the pseudo second-order kinetic model.The desorption study revealed that after three cycles of adsorption and desorption by NaOH and HCl,both adsorbents retained their promising adsorption abilities.FT-IR analysis proved that the adsorption of acid dyes onto chitosan-based adsorbents was a physical adsorption.Results also showed that chitosan and chitosan-EGDE beads were favourable adsorbers and could be employed as low-cost alternatives for the removal of acid dyes in wastewater treatment.AZLAN Kamari WAN SAIME Wan Ngah LAI KEN Liew 2009Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,3:18
3Monodisperse Nickel Nanoparticles Supported on SiO_(2) as an Effective Catalyst for the Hydrolysis of Ammonia-Borane显示文摘Monodisperse Ni nanoparticles(NPs)have been synthesized by the reduction of nickel(Ⅱ)acetylacetonate with the borane–tributylamine complex in a mixture of oleylamine and oleic acid.These Ni NPs are an active catalyst for the hydrolysis of the ammonia–borane(AB,H3N⋅BH3)complex under ambient conditions and their activities are dependent on the chemical nature of the oxide support that they were deposited on.Among various oxides(SiO_(2),Al_(2)O_(3),and CeO_(2))tested,SiO_(2)was found to enhance Ni NP catalytic activity due to the etching of the 3.2 nm Ni NPs giving Ni(Ⅱ)ions and the subsequent reduction of Ni(Ⅱ)that led to the formation of 1.6 nm Ni NPs on the SiO_(2)surface.The kinetics of the hydrolysis of AB catalyzed by Ni/SiO_(2)was shown to be dependent on catalyst and substrate concentration as well as temperature.The Ni/SiO_(2)catalyst has a turnover frequency(TOF)of 13.2 mol H_(2)⋅(mol Ni)^(–1)⋅min^(–1)—the best ever reported for the hydrolysis of AB using a nickel catalyst,an activation energy of 34 kJ/mol±2 kJ/mol and a total turnover number of 15,400 in the hydrolysis of AB.It is a promising candidate to replace noble metals for catalyzing AB hydrolysis and for hydrogen generation under ambient conditions.Önder Metin SaimÖzkar Shouheng Sun 2010Nano Research2010,3,9:9
4Acid Blue 25 adsorption on base treated Shorea dasyphylla sawdust:Kinetic,isotherm,thermodynamic and spectroscopic analysis显示文摘The potential of base treated Shorea dasyphylla(BTSD) sawdust for Acid Blue 25(AB 25) adsorption was investigated in a batch adsorption process.Various physiochemical parameters such as pH,stirring rate,dosage,concentration,contact time and temperature were studied.The adsorbent was characterized with Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer,scanning electron microscope and Brunauer,Emmett and Teller analysis.The optimum conditions for AB 25 adsorption were pH 2,stirring rate 500 r/min,adsorbent dosage 0.10 g and contact time 60 min.The pseudo second-order model showed the best conformity to the kinetic data.The equilibrium adsorption of AB 25 was described by Freundlich and Langmuir,with the latter found to agree well with the isotherm model.The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of BTSD was 24.39 mg/g at 300 K,estimated from the Langmuir model.Thermodynamic parameters such as Gibbs free energy,enthalpy and entropy were determined.It was found that AB 25 adsorption was spontaneous and exothermic.Megat Ahmad Kamal Megat Hanafiah Wan Saime Wan Ngah Shahira Hilwani Zolkafly Lee Ching Teong Zafri Azran Abdul Majid 2012Journal of Environmental Sciences2012,24,2:3
5Sequestration of toxic Pb(Ⅱ) ions by chemically treated rubber(Hevea brasiliensis) leaf powder显示文摘Rubber leaf powder(an agricultural waste) was treated with potassium permanganate followed by sodium carbonate and its performance in the removal of Pb(Ⅱ) ions from aqueous solution was evaluated.The interactions between Pb(Ⅱ) ions and functional groups on the adsorbent surface were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy(SEM) coupled with X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDX).The effects of several important parameters which can affect adsorption capacity such as pH,adsorbent dosage,initial lead concentration and contact time were studied.The optimum pH range for lead adsorption was 4-5.Even at very low adsorbent dosage of 0.02 g,almost 100% of Pb(Ⅱ) ions(23 mg/L) could be removed.The adsorption capacity was also dependent on lead concentration and contact time,and relatively a short period of time(60-90 min) was required to reach equilibrium.The equilibrium data were analyzed with Langmuir,Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherms.Based on Langmuir model,the maximum adsorption capacity of lead was 95.3 mg/g.Three kinetic models including pseudo first-order,pseudo second-order and Boyd were used to analyze the lead adsorption process,and the results showed that the pseudo second-order fitted well with correlation coefficients greater than 0.99.Megat Hanafiah Megat Ahmad Kamal Wan Mat Khalir Wan Khaima Azira Mohamed Kasmawati Zakaria Haslizaidi Wan Ngah Wan Saime 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,2:3
6Resection and primary anastomosis with or without modified blow-hole colostomy for sigmoid volvulus显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of resection and primary anastomosis (RPA) and RPA with modified blow-hole colostomy for sigmoid volvulus. METHODS: From March 2000 to September 2007, 77 patients with acute sigmoid volvulus were treated. A total of 47 patients underwent RPA or RPA with modified blow-hole colostomy. Twenty-five patients received RPA (Group A), and the remaining 22 patients had RPA with modified blow-hole colostomy (Group B). The clinical course and postoperative complications of the two groups were compared. RESULTS: The mean hospital stay, wound infection and mortality did not differ significantly between the groups. Superficial wound infection rate was higher in group A (32% vs 9.1%). Anastomotic leakage was observed only in group A, with a rate of 6.3%. The difference was numerically impressive but was statistically not significant. CONCLUSION: RPA with modified blow-hole colostomy provides satisfactory results. It is easy to perform and may become a method of choice in patients with sigmoid volvulus.
