A 37 GHz Millimeter-Wave Antenna Array for 5G Communication Terminals显示文摘This work presents, design and specific absorption rate(SAR)analysis of a 37GHz antenna, for 5th Generation(5G)applications.The proposed antenna comprises of 4-elements of rectangular patch and an even distribution. The radiating element is composed of copper material supported by Rogers RT5880 substrate of thickness,0.254 mm,dielectric constant(εr),2.2,and loss tangent,0.0009.The 4-elements array antenna is compact in size with a dimension of 8mm×20mm in length and width. The radiating patch is excited with a 50 ohms connector i.e.,K-type.The antenna resonates in the frequency band of 37 GHz,that covers the 5G applications. The antenna behavior is studied both in free space and in the proximity of the human body.Three models of the human body,i.e.,belly,hand,and head(contain skin, fat, muscles, and bone)are considered for on-body simulations. At resonant frequency, the antenna gives a boresight gain of 11.6 dB.The antenna radiates efficiently with a radiated efficiency of more than 90%.Also,it is observed that the antenna detunes to the lowest in the proximity of the human body, but still a good impedance matching is achieved considering the−10 dB criteria. Moreover,SAR is also being presented. The safe limit of 2 W/kg for any 10 g of biological tissue, specified by the European International Electro Technical Commission(IEC)has been considered. The calculated values of SAR for human body models,i.e.,belly,hand and head are 1.82,1.81 and 1.09 W/kg,respectively.The SAR values are less than the international recommendations for the three models.Furthermore, the simulated and measured results of the antenna are in close agreement, which makes it,a potential candidate for the fifth-generation smart phones and other handheld devices. | Jalal Khan Sadiq Ullah Usman Ali Ladislau Matekovits Farooq Ahmad Tahir Muhammad Inam Abbasi | 2023 | Computers, Materials & Continua2023,,4: | 0
Th-Shaped Tunable Multi-Band Antenna for Modern Wireless Applications显示文摘A compact, reconfigurable antenna supporting multiple wireless services with a minimum number of switches is found lacking in literature and the same became the focus and outcome of this work.It was achieved by designing a Th-Shaped frequency reconfigurable multi-band microstrip planar antenna, based on use of a single switch within the radiating structure of the antenna.Three frequency bands(i.e.,2007–2501 MHz,3660–3983MHz and 9341–1046 MHz)can be operated with the switch in the ON switch state. In the OFF state of the switch, the antenna operates within the 2577–3280MHz and 9379–1033MHz Bands. The proposed antenna shows an acceptable input impedance match with Voltage Standing Wave Ratio(VSWR)less than 1.2.The peak radiation efficiency of the antenna is 82%.A reasonable gain is obtained from 1.22 to 3.31 dB within the operating bands is achieved. The proposed antenna supports UniversalMobile Telecommunication System(UMTS)-1920 to 2170 MHz,Worldwide Interoperability and Microwave Access(WiMAX)/Wireless Broadband/(Long Term Evolution)LTE2500–2500 to 2690 MHz,Fifth Generation(5G)-2500/3500 MHz,Wireless Fidelity(Wi-Fi)/Bluetooth-2400 to 2480 MHz,and Satellite communication applications in X-Band-8000 to 12000 MHz.The overall planar dimension of the proposed antenna is 40×20mm2.The antennawas designed, along with the parametric study, using Electromagnetic(EM)simulation tool. The antenna prototype is fabricated for experimental validation with the simulated results. The proposed antenna is low profile, tunable, lightweight, cheap to fabricate and highly efficient and hence is deemed suitable for use in modern wireless communication electronic devices. | Wasi Ur Rehman Khan Muhammad Fawad Khan Muhammad Irfan Sadiq Ullah Naveed Mufti Usman Ali Rizwan Ullah Fazal Muhammad Saifur Rahman Faisal Althobiani Mohammed Alshareef Mohammad E.Gommosani | 2023 | Computers, Materials & Continua2023,,2: | 0
Variations in Surface Urban Heat Island and Urban Cool Island Intensity:A Review Across Major Climate Zones显示文摘The climate has an impact on the urban thermal environment, and the magnitude of the surface urban heat island(SUHI)and urban cool island(UCI)vary across the world’s climatic zones. This literature review investigated:1)the variations in the SUHI and UCI intensity under different climatic backgrounds, and 2)the effect of vegetation types, landscape composition, urban configuration, and water bodies on the SUHI.The SUHI had a higher intensity in tropical(Af(tropical rainy climate,Köppen climate classification),Am(tropical monsoon climate),subtropical(Cfa,subtropical humid climate),and humid continental(Dwa,semi-humid and semi-arid monsoon climate)climate zones. The magnitude of the UCI was low compared to the SUHI across the climate zones. The cool and dry Mediterranean(Cfb,temperate marine climate;Csb,temperate mediterranean climate;Cfa)and tropical climate(Af)areas had a higher cooling intensity. For cities with a desert climate(BWh,tropical desert climate),a reverse pattern was found. The difference in the SUHI in the night-time was greater than in the daytime for most cities across the climate zones. The extent of green space cooling was related to city size, the adjacent impervious surface, and the local climate.Additionally, the composition of urban landscape elements was more significant than their configuration for sustaining the urban thermal environment. Finally,we identified future research gaps for possible solutions in the context of sustainable urbanization in different climate zones. | Muhammad Sadiq KHAN Sami ULLAH CHEN Liding | 2023 | Chinese Geographical Science2023,33,6: | 0
Frequency Reconfigurable Antenna for Portable Wireless Applications显示文摘In this paper, the design and experimental evaluation of a hexagonalshaped coplanar waveguide(CPW)-feed frequency reconfigurable antenna is presented using flame retardant(FR)-4 substrate with size of 37×35×1.6 mm3.The antenna is made tunable to three different modes through the status of two pin diodes to operate in four distinct frequency bands,i.e.,2.45 GHz wireless fidelity(Wi-Fi)in MODE 1,3.3 GHz(5G sub-6 GHz band)in MODE 2,2.1 GHz(3G Long Term Evolution(LTE)-advanced)and 3.50 GHz Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access(WiMAX)in MODE 3.The optimization through simulation modeling shows that the proposed antenna can provide adequate gain(1.44∼2.2 dB),sufficient bandwidth(200∼920 MHz)and high radiation efficiency(80%∼95%)in the four resonating frequency bands.Voltage standing wave ratio(VSWR)<1.5 is achieved for all bands with properly matched characteristics of the antenna. To validate the simulation results, fabrication of the proposed optimized design is performed, and experimental analysis is found to be in a considerable amount of agreement.Due to its reasonably small size and support of multiple frequency bands operation, the proposed antenna can support portable devices for handheld 5G and Wireless LAN(WLAN)applications. | Shakir Ullah Sadiq Ullah Inzamam Ahmad Wasi Ur Rehman Khan Toufeeq Ahmad Usman Habib Mahmoud A.Albreem Mohammed H.Alsharif Peerapong Uthansakul | 2021 | Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,9: | 0
Combining Landsat-8 spectral bands with ancillary variables for land cover classification in mountainous terrains of northern Pakistan显示文摘Landsat-8 spectral values have been used to map the earth’s surface information for decades. However, forest types and other land-use/land-cover(LULC)in the mountain terrains exist on different altitudes and climatic conditions.Hence, spectral information alone cannot be sufficient to accurately classify the forest types and other LULC,especially in high mountain complex. In this study, the suitability of Landsat-8 spectral bands and ancillary variables to discriminate forest types, and other LULC,using random forest(RF)classification algorithm for the Hindu Kush mountain ranges of northern Pakistan, was discussed. After prior-examination(multicollinearity)of spectral bands and ancillary variables, three out of six spectral bands and five out of eight ancillary variables were selected with threshold correlation coefficients r2<0.7.The selected datasets were stepwise stacked together and six Input Datasets(ID)were created. The first ID-1 includes only the Surface Reflectance(SR)of spectral bands, and then in each ID,the extra one ancillary variable including Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI),Normalized Difference Water Index(NDWI),Normalized Difference Snow Index(NDSI),Land Surface Temperature(LST),and Digital Elevation Model(DEM)was added. We found an overall accuracy(OA)=72.8%and kappa coefficient(KC)=61.9%for the classification of forest types, and other LULC classes by using the only SR bands of Landsat-8.The OA=81.5%and KC=73.7%was improved by the addition of NDVI,NDWI,and NDSI to the spectral bands of Landsat-8.However,the addition of LST and DEM further increased the OA,and Kappa coefficient(KC)by 87.5%and 82.6%,respectively.This indicates that ancillary variables play an important role in the classification, especially in the mountain terrain, and should be adopted in addition to spectral bands. The output of the study will be useful for the protection and conservation, analysis, climate change research, and other mountains forest-related management information. | Arif UR REHMAN Sami ULLAH Muhammad SHAFIQUE Muhammad Sadiq KHAN Muhammad Tariq BADSHAH LIU Qi-jing | 2021 | Journal of Mountain Science2021,18,9: | 0
Hypoxia tolerance studies for yield, fiber and physiological traits in cotton(Gossypium hirsutum L.)显示文摘Background: Hypoxia tolerance studies in cotton are very rare in Pakistan. Unpredicted and excessive rainfalls result in severe losses to cotton crop in many regions of the country due to lack of hypoxia tolerance in current cotton varieties. The genotypes that can tolerate flooding are not reported earlier. The studies were conducted to explore hypoxia tolerance in local germplasm which will help to develop hypoxia tolerant cotton varieties.Method: An experiment with randomized complete blocks was designed to study the hypoxia tolerance in different cotton varieties. The genotypes were given two treatments i.e., water logged and non-water logged conditions. Results: The genotypes showed significant variability for yield, fiber and physiological traits. The hypoxia studies revealed that there is significant reduction for plant height in water sensitive genotype LRA-5166. The genotype MNH-786 showed better yield and MNH-556 showed superior ginning outturn percentage under water logged conditions. Staple length, strength and micronaire values also decreased under hypoxia. Similar pattern of negative effects were observed for Chlorophyll a, b contents and chl a/b ratio. Two hypoxia tolerant cultivars CIM-573 and MNH-564 had significantly higher chlorophyll a(1.664, 1.551) than other cultivars under both normal and waterlogged conditions. There was a significant decrease in total free amino acids in all genotypes/cultivars due to waterlogging. Free amino acid contents were significantly higher in two waterlogging sensitive cultivars, CEDIX and N-KRISHMA, than other cultivars under both non-waterlogged and waterlogged conditions. Waterlogging caused a significant reduction in shoot soluble proteins and increase in shoot proline. The genotype LRA-5166 was the'highest in shoot soluble proteins content and showed significant decrease in shoot proline. Conclusions: With respect to yield MNH-786 showed better results and regarding ginning outturn percentage MNH-556 exhibited, superior performance. The genotypes CIM-573 and MNH-564 showed higher chlorophyll a values. The above said genotypes may be exploited for further studies related to hypoxia tolerance. | HUSSAIN Altaf FAROOQ Jehanzeb AHMAD Saghir MAHMOOD Abid SADIQ M.Attiq ZAFAR Ullah Zafar ATHAR Habib-Ur-Rehman | 2018 | Journal of Cotton Research2018,1,2: | 0
Unsupervised Color Segmentation with Reconstructed Spatial Weighted Gaussian Mixture Model and Random Color Histogram显示文摘Image classification and unsupervised image segmentation can be achieved using the Gaussian mixture model.Although the Gaussian mixture model enhances the flexibility of image segmentation,it does not reflect spatial information and is sensitive to the segmentation parameter. In this study,we first present an efficient algorithm that incorporates spatial information into the Gaussian mixture model(GMM)without parameter estimation. The proposed model highlights the residual region with considerable information and constructs color saliency.Second,we incorporate the content-based color saliency as spatial information in the Gaussian mixture model. The segmentation is performed by clustering each pixel into an appropriate component according to the expectation maximization and maximum criteria. Finally, the random color histogram assigns a unique color to each cluster and creates an attractive color by default for segmentation.A random color histogram serves as an effective tool for data visualization and is instrumental in the creation of generative art, facilitating both analytical and aesthetic objectives. For experiments,we have used the Berkeley segmentation dataset BSDS-500 and Microsoft Research in Cambridge dataset. In the study, the proposed model showcases notable advancements in unsupervised image segmentation, with probabilistic rand index(PRI)values reaching 0.80,BDE scores as low as 12.25 and 12.02,compactness variations at 0.59 and 0.7,and variation of information(VI)reduced to 2.0 and 1.49 for the BSDS-500 and MSRC datasets, respectively, outperforming current leading-edge methods and yielding more precise segmentations. | Umer Sadiq Khan Zhen Liu Fang Xu Muhib Ullah Khan Lerui Chen Touseef Ahmed Khan Muhammad Kashif Khattak Yuquan Zhang | 2024 | Computers, Materials & Continua2024,78,3: | 0
