| 2 | Combined bone marrow stromal cells and oxiracetam treatments ameliorates acute cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury through TRPC6显示文摘Ischemic stroke has become one of the leading causes of deaths and disabilities all over the world.In this study,we investigated the therapeutic effects of combined bone marrow stromal cells(BMSCs)and oxiracetam treatments on acute cerebral ischemia/reperfusion(I/R)injury.A rat model of middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO)followed by complete reperfusion,as well as a cortex neuron oxygen-glucose deprivation(OGD)model was established.When compared with BMSCs or oxiracetam monotherapy,combination therapy significantly improved functional restoration with decreased infarct volume in observed ischemic brain.We propose that it may occur through the transient receptor potential canonical(TRPC)6 neuron survival pathway.The increased expression of TRPC6 along with the reduction of neuronal cell death in the OGD cortex neurons and combination therapy group indicated that the TRPC6 neuron survival pathway plays an important role in the combined BMSCs and oxiracetam treatments.We further tested the activity of the calpain proteolytic system,and the results suggested that oxiracetam could protect the integrity of TRPC6 neuron survival pathway by inhibiting TRPC6 degradation.The protein levels of phospho-cAMP response element binding protein(p-CREB)were tested.It was found that BMSCs play a role in the activation of the TRPC6 pathway.Our study suggests that the TRPC6 neuron survival pathway plays a significant role in the protective effect of combined BMSCs and oxiracetam treatments on acute cerebral I/R injury.Combined therapy could inhibit the abnormal degradation of TRPC6 via decreasing the activity of calpain and increasing the activation of TRPC6 neuron survival pathway. | Jing Wang Ruohan Sun Zhenzhu Li Yujun Pan | 2019 | Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2019,51,8: | 17 |
| 3 | Finite element investigation of the poroelastic effect on the Xinfengjiang Reservoir-triggered earthquake显示文摘Coulomb failure stress changes (ΔCFS) are used in the study of reservoir-induced seismicity (RIS) generation.The threshold value of ΔCFS that can trigger earthquakes is an important issue that deserves thorough research.The M s 6.1 earthquake in the Xinfengjiang Reservoir in 1962 is well acknowledged as the largest reservoir-induced earthquake in China.Therefore, it is a logical site for quantitative calculation of ΔCFS induced by the filling of the reservoir and for investigating the magnitude of CFS that can trigger reservoir seismic activities.To better understand the RIS mechanism, a three-dimensional poroelastic finite element model of the Xinfengjiang Reservoir is proposed here, taking into consideration of the precise topography and dynamic water level.We calculate the instant changes of stress and pore pressure induced by water load, and the time variation of effective stresses due to pore water diffusion.The CFS on the seismogenesis faults and the accumulation of strain energy in the reservoir region are also calculated.Primary results suggest that the reservoir impoundment increases both pore pressure and CFS on the fault at the focal depth.The diffusion of pore pressure was likely the main factor that triggered the main earthquake, whereas the elastic stress owing to water load was relatively small.The magnitude of CFS on seismogenesis fault can reach approximately 10 kPa, and the ΔCFS values at the hypocenter can be about 0.7-3.0 kPa, depending on the fault diffusion coefficient.The calculated maximum vertical subsidence caused by the water load in the Xinfengjiang Reservoir is 17.5 mm, which is in good agreement with the observed value of 15 mm.The accumulated strain energy owing to water load was only about 7.3×10 11 J, even less than 1% of the seismic wave energy released by the earthquake.The reservoir impoundment was the only factor that triggered the earthquake. | CHENG HuiHong ZHANG Huai ZHU BoJing SUN YuJun ZHENG Liang YANG ShaoHua SHI YaoLin | 2012 | Science China Earth Sciences2012,55,12: | 11 |

| 6 | A draft sequence of the rice (Oryza sativa ssp. indica) genome显示文摘The sequence of the rice genome holds fundamental information for its biology, including physiology, genetics, development, and evolution, as well as information on many beneficial phenotypes of economic significance. Using a 'whole genome shotgun' approach, we have pro-duced a draft rice genome sequence of Oryza sativa ssp. in-dica, the major crop rice subspecies in China and many other regions of Asia. The draft genome sequence is constructed from over 4.3 million successful sequencing traces with an accumulative total length of 2214.9 Mb. The initial assembly of the non-redundant sequences reached 409.76 Mb in length, based on 3.30 million successful sequencing traces with a total length of 1797.4 Mb from an indica variant cultivar 93-11, giving an estimated coverage of 95.29% of the rice genome with an average base accuracy of higher than 99%. | 7 | Enhanced Fracture Toughness of Pressureless-sintered SiC Ceramics by Addition of Graphene显示文摘To enhance the fracture toughness of pressureless-sintered Si C ceramic, graphene was introduced as an additive. The effects of graphene contents on the fracture toughness, bending strength, micro-hardness,phase compositions, and microstructure evolutions of the Si C ceramics were investigated in detail by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and metallographic microscopy. The fracture toughness, bending strength and micro-hardness increased initially, and then decreased with the graphene content increasing from 0 to 5.0 wt%. The highest fracture toughness of 5.65 MPa m1/2was obtained for sample with 1.0 wt% graphene sintered at 2130 °C for 1 h in Ar, which was about 22.6% higher than that of Si C sample without graphene. | 14 | Forest succession in post-agricultural Larix olgensis plantations in northeast China显示文摘In order to understand the management of regional vegetation,numerical classification and ordination are widely used to investigate community distribution and vegetation features.In particular,two-way indicator-species analysis programs(TWINSPAN)classifies plots and species into different groups.De-trended correspondence analysis(DCA)and canonical correspondence analysis(CCA)reflects the relationship between community and site conditions.Afforestation with Larix olgensis Herry.Plantations is a suitable restoration strategy on post-agricultural fields in the Lesser Khingan Mountains.The results of this study show how these plantations develop over time to establish a reliable pathway model by measuring and clarifying the succession process.Twenty-eight L.olgensis plantations along a 48-year chronosequence of afforestation were investigated with a quadrat sampling method.Species composition,community structure attributes of diversity,and site conditions were analyzed.Communities were classified by TWINSPAN into five successional stages:immature,juvenile,mid-aged,nearmature and mature.Classifications were validated by DCA and CCA analysis.Site conditions such as soil and litter thickness,soil organic matter,soil density,and pH were measured.Successional stages varied in community composition and species population,accompanied by time from afforestation and a gradient of site conditions.This gradient showed changes in vegetation occurrence and diversity coinciding with changes in soil conditions.The study showed that L.olgensis plantations had marked predominance in growth and were associated with improved soil fertility and the formation of a stable plant community. | Wei Ma Shen Lei Yujun Sun Jason Grabosky | 2020 | Journal of Forestry Research2020,31,6: | 3 |

| 16 | Endoplasmic reticulum stress is involved in okadaic acid-induced tau phosphorylation and neurotoxic effects of okadaic acid显示文摘The role of the endoplasmic reticulum in Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis remains poorly understood. The present study investigated the correlation of okadaic acid-induced tau hyperphosphorylation and neurotoxicity with endoplasmic reticulum stress. Following co-culture of various concentrations of okadaic acid (25, 50, 100, and 200 nmol/L) and human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells, okadaic acid, a selective protein phosphatase (PP-1, PP-2A) inhibitor, reduced cell viability in a concentration-dependent manner, which was closely associated with okadaic acid-induced tau phosphorylation. In addition, expressions of the unfolded protein response activation marker glucose-regulated protein 78 (BiP/Grp78) and the CCAAT/enhancer binding protein homologous protein (CHOP)/Gadd153 increased following okadaic acid treatment. Furthermore, the unfolded protein response was activated in human embryonic kidney 293 (HEK 293) cells overexpressing tau following okadaic acid treatment, but untransfected HEK 293 cells did not exhibit activation of the unfolded protein response. | 17 | Effects of AlN on the densification and mechanical properties of pressureless-sintered SiC ceramics显示文摘In the present work, Si C ceramics was fabricated with Al N using B_4 C and C as sintering aids by a solid-state pressureless-sintered method. The effects of Al N contents on the densification, mechanical properties, phase compositions, and microstructure evolutions of as-obtained Si C ceramics were thoroughly investigated. Al N was found to promote further densification of the Si C ceramics due to its evaporation over 1800 °C,transportation, and solidification in the pores resulted from Si C grain coarsening. The highest relative density of 99.65% was achieved for Si C sample with 15.0 wt% Al N by the pressureless-sintered method at 2130 °C for 1 h in Ar atmosphere. Furthermore, the fracture mechanism for Si C ceramics containing Al N tended to transfer from single transgranular fracture mode to both transgranular fracture and intergranular fracture modes when the sample with 30.0 wt% Al N sintered at 1900 °C for 1 h in Ar. | 18 | Minor-effect QTL for heading date detected in crosses between indica rice cultivar Teqing and near isogenic lines of IR24显示文摘Identification of quantitative trait loci(QTL) having small effects on heading date(HD) is important for fine-tuning flowering time in rice(Oryza sativa L.). In this study, minor-effect QTL for HD were identified using five segregating rice populations, including a recombinant inbred line population derived from crosses between indica cultivar Teqing and near isogenic lines of IR24,and four populations derived from residual heterozygotes identified in the original population.HD data from these populations were obtained in multiple years or at two locations with different photoperiods. A total of 11 QTL were detected; they had small additive effects ranging from 0.21 to1.63 days. The QTL were all detected in different populations, locations and/or years, having consistent allelic effects across experiments and a stable magnitude across years at the same location. These QTL, and other minor-effect QTL that have been cloned or fine-mapped, generally do not have strong photoperiod sensitivity, and thus can be used in a wide range of ecogeographical conditions. Seven of the 11 QTL were different from those that have been cloned or fine-mapped, providing new candidates for gene cloning and marker-assisted breeding. | 19 | Numerical investigation on the geodynamical mechanism of the first major shock of 2006 Pingtung M_w7.0 earthquake显示文摘A strong Mw7.0 earthquake struck Pingtung offshore of Taiwan on December 26,2006.It consisted of two major events with an 8-minute interval.The first major shock occurred at 12:26 UTC.Focal mechanism results from Harvard,USGS,and BATS all indicated that the first major shock was a normal fault earthquake and the second one was dominated by strike-slip offsets.The location of the epicenter varied greatly in depth in different analyses.The latest results showed that the focal depth of the first shock was most probably around 40-44 km,placing the epicenter in the lithospheric mantle.However,this is not a location where earthquakes usually occur.To explore the geodynamical mechanism of this event,we carried out 2D finite element method(FEM) numerical experiments.Our primary results indicate that the geodynamical background,as well as the formation of Pingtung earthquake,is a consequence of the collision between Luzon arc and Chinese continental margin.Although Taiwan Island is in the shadow of NW-SE trending compressive collision zone,the existence of ductile lower crust leads to the decoupling between upper crust and lithospheric mantle.As lithospheric mantle subducts to the depth of around 250 km,the upper part of the bending subduction slab puts itself in an extensional state.The extensional stress from bending induced the occurrence of this normal fault earthquake at the critical point. | SUN YuJun ZHANG Huai SHI YaoLin | 2011 | Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,5: | 2 |
| 20 | Surface decoration of Halloysite nanotubes with POSS for fire-safe thermoplastic polyurethane nanocomposites显示文摘Halloysite nanotubes(HNTs)have been considered as a promising flame retardant fillers for polymers.In this work,the polyhedral oligomericsilsesquioxane(POSS)containing amino group was covalently grafted on the surface of HNTs with 3-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)propytrimethoxysilane as a chemical bridge.The POSS modified HNTs(HNTs-POSS)dispersed uniformly in the thermoplastic polyurethane(TPU)matrix and endowed TPU nanocomposites with enhanced tensile properties and fire safety.Cone calorimeter tests revealed that the introduction of 2 wt%HNTs-POSS to TPU matrix remarkably reduced the peak of heat release rate(PHRR)and total heat release(THR)by 60.0%and 18.3%,respectively.In addition,the peak CO production rate and total smoke release(TSR)could be significantly suppressed by the addition of HNTsPOSS.The well dispersed HNTs in combination with the ceramified silicon network from the thermal decomposition of POSS contributed to the formation of a continuous and compact char layer,exhibiting a tortuous effect by inhibiting heat diffusion and evaporation of volatile gaseous.In addition,the released crystal water from HNTs could dilute the combustible volatiles and then decline the combustion intensity.The tensile tests demonstrated that introduction of 2 wt%HNTs-POSS would enhance the maximum stress of TPU nanocomposite with a slight decrease of elongation at break.The combination of HNTs and POSS through the construction of effective interfacial interactions provides a feasible way to effectively enhance the fire safety of TPU nanocomposites without scarifying ductility. | Wei Wu Wanjing Zhao Xianjing Gong Qijun Sun Xianwu Cao Yujun Su Bin Yu Robert K.Y.Li Roy A.L.Vellaisamy | 2022 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,6: | 2 |
