| 6 | Polyaxial strength criterion and closed-form solution for squeezing rock conditions显示文摘In this paper,a nonlinear strength criterion is proposed using the average of intermediate(σ2)and minor(σ3)principal stresses in place of σ3 in Ramamurthy(1994)’s strength criterion.The proposed criterion has the main advantages of negligible variation of strength parameters with confining stress and ability to link with conventional strength parameters.Additionally,a new closed-form solution based on the proposed criterion is derived and validated for Chhibro Khodri tunnel.Further,analytical solutions including Singh’s elastoplastic theory,Scussel’s approach,and closed-form solutions based on conventional and modified Ramamurthy(2007)criteria are compared with the results of proposed approach.It is shown that the in situ squeezing pressure predictions made by the proposed approach are more accurate.Also,a parametric study of the present analytical solution is carried out,which displays explicit dependency of tunnel stability on internal support pressure and tunnel depth.The influence of tunnel geometry is observed to be dependent on the applied support pressure. | Rupesh Kumar Verma Sarvesh Chandra | 2020 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2020,12,3: | 1 |

| 10 | Bandgap engineered novel g-C_3N_4/G/h-BN heterostructure for electronic applications显示文摘The effect of an external electric field on the bandgap is observed for two proposed heterostructures graphitic carbon nitride-graphene-hexagonal boron nitride(g-C_3N_4/G/h-BN) in hexagonal stack(AAA) and graphene-graphitic carbon nitridehexagonal boron nitride(G/g-C_3N_4/h-BN) in Bernal stack(ABA). Their inter-layer distance, binding energy and effective mass has also been calculated. The structure optimization has been done by density functional theory(DFT) with van der Waals corrections. | 11 | Phenotypic plasticity in Bacillus cereus strains isolated from various Antarctic habitats显示文摘We studied five strains of psychrotolerant Bacillus cereus(B.cereus)isolated from Antarctic snow(BCsn),ice(BCic),lake water(BCwr),sediment(BCsd),and soil(BCsl)samples in terms of their growth,biochemical properties,and heat shock responses.Analyses of growth kinetics at 4℃showed that BCsn had the fastest generation time(16.1 h),whereas BCwr had the slowest(30.8 h).Strain BCsd formed the largest zone of lipid hydrolysis(18 mm)whereas BCsn formed the smallest zone(3 mm).Only BCsd produced gelatinase.These physiological differences illustrate adaptations of B.cereus isolates to different niches.Strains BCsl and BCwr were resistant to all 12 of the antibiotics tested.Strains BCsn,BCic,and BCsd were resistant to cell wall synthesis inhibitors(penicillin and ampicillin)and susceptible to protein synthesis inhibitors(tetracycline and streptomycin).A carbon-substrate utilization assay revealed that BCsn,BCic,and BCwr could specifically utilize D-glucose-6-phosphate,salicin,and 2’-deoxyadenosine,respectively,indicating a degree of metabolic diversity among these Antarctic B.cereus strains.An analysis of heat shock proteins(HSPs)produced in response to a 60℃heat treatment revealed significant variations in the amounts of HSP33(p=0.01,df=4),HSP44(p=0.003,df=4),and HSP60(p=0.04,df=4)among the strains.This emphasizes the importance of HSPs in bacterial taxonomy.These results show that there are considerable adaptive variations among B.cereus strains from extremophilic environments.This could be significant in evaluating the taxonomy and evolution of this species. | Rupesh Kumar Sinha Kottekkatu Padinchati Krishnan | 2013 | Advances in Polar Science2013,24,4: | 0 |

| 13 | Secure optical communication using a quantum alarm显示文摘Optical fibre networks are advancing rapidly to meet growing traffic demands.Security issues,including attack management,have become increasingly important for optical communication networks because of the vulnerabilities associated with tapping light from optical fibre links.Physical layer security often requires restricting access to channels and periodic inspections of link performance.In this paper,we report how quantum communication techniques can be utilized to detect a physical layer attack.We present an efficient method for monitoring the physical layer security of a high-data-rate classical optical communication network using a modulated continuous-variable quantum signal.We describe the theoretical and experimental underpinnings of this monitoring system and the monitoring accuracy for different monitored parameters.We analyse its performance for both unamplified and amplified optical links.The technique represents a novel approach for applying quantum signal processing to practical optical communication networks and compares well with classical monitoring methods.We conclude by discussing the challenges facing its practical application,its differences with respect to existing quantum key distribution methods,and its usage in future secure optical transport network planning. | Yupeng Gong Rupesh Kumar Adrian Wonfor Shengjun Ren Richard V.Penty Ian H.White | 2020 | Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1: | 0 |
