| 1 | Tree-Temperature Monitoring for Frost Protection of Orchards in Semi-Arid Regions Using Sprinkler Irrigation显示文摘Automated over-tree sprinkler irrigation systems were developed and tested in two orchards located in two separate locations in southern Iran(a 0.17 ha peach orchard and a 0.24 ha orange orchard) to protect peach blossoms and orange trees leaves and fruits from low temperature damage.The experiment used a system that monitored the trees and air temperatures using two thermistors.The water application rate by the irrigation system was determined by an energy balance as implemented by the software FROSTPRO.In the peach orchard,the system was tested during three frost events during the spring of 2003 and three other events during the spring of 2004.The system successfully kept peach flowers above the critical temperature,i.e.,-4.0°C in spring 2004(control block -4.12°C,and sprinkled block +0.5°C) during all events.Similar results were obtained in the orange orchard during three frost events in the winter of 2004,during which the tree temperatures were at least 2.5°C above the critical temperature.Results from field tests show that the system can effectively protect the peach blossoms from damage.Determination done after the frost events showed a 12% blossom kill in the sprinkled blocks while in the unsprinkled control block a 41.5% blossom kill.Calculations indicated that when using variable application rates,the amount of water used can be reduced by 54.3%.Spatial distribution of minimum temperatures during the three frosts was also studied in Jahrom,Iran.Results showed a significant temperature control in the experimental block,especially in the central part of the orchard,but the block margins(about 3.6% of the total area) were at the risk of low temperature due to the wind drift effects. | Ali Asghar Ghaemi Mohammad Rafie Rafiee Ali Reza Sepaskhah | 2009 | Agricultural Sciences in China2009,8,1: | 14 |
| 2 | Cyclic vomiting syndrome in children: Experience with 181 cases from southern Iran显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the clinical presentation, response to prophylactic therapy and outcome of children with cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS) in Shiraz, Iran.METHODS: During a period of 11 years (March 1994 to March 2005), 181 consecutive children with a final diagnosis of CVS were evaluated, treated and followed in our center. Patients were randomized to receive either amitriptyline or propranolol as prophylactic treatments. RESULTS: There were 88 boys and 93 girls with mean age of onset of symptoms of 4.9 ± 3.3 years (range, neonatal period to 14 years), the mean age at final diagnosis was 6.9 years (range, 1.5 to 14), and the mean duration between the onset of the first attack and the final diagnosis of CVS was 2 ± 1.81 years (range, 1/6 to 8). The mean duration of each attack was 4.26 days (range, from few hours to 10 d) and the mean interval between the attacks was 1.8 mo (range, 1 wk to 12 mo). The time of onset of the attacks was midnight to early morning in about 70% of cases. Amitriptyline was effective in 46 out of 81 (56%) patients (P < 0.001). Propranolol appeared to have a superior action and was effective in 74 out of 83 (92%) patients (P < 0.0001).CONCLUSION: There is a significant lag time between the onset of clinical symptoms and the final diagnosis of CVS in our area. In patients with typical clinical presentations of CVS, who are examined by an experienced physician, invasive workup is not necessary. | 3 | Prediction of subsidence risk by FMEA using artificial neural network and fuzzy inference system显示文摘Construction of metro tunnels in dense and crowded urban areas is faced with many risks, such as subsidence. The purpose of this paper was the prediction of subsidence risk by failure mode and effect analysis(FMEA) and fuzzy inference system(FIS). Fuzzy theory will be able to model uncertainties. Fuzzy FMEA provides a tool that can work in a better way with vague concepts and without sufficient information than conventional FMEA. In this paper, S and D are obtained from fuzzy rules and O is obtained from artificial neural network(ANN). FMEA is performed by developing a fuzzy risk priority number(FRPN).The FRPN for two stations in Tehran No.4 subway line is 3.1 and 5.5, respectively. To investigate the suitability of this approach, the predictions by FMEA have been compared with actual data. | 4 | An experimental study of elastic properties of dragonfly-like flapping wings for use in biomimetic micro air vehicles(BMAVs)显示文摘This article studies the elastic properties of several biomimetic micro air vehicle(BMAV)wings that are based on a dragonfly wing.BMAVs are a new class of unmanned micro-sized air vehicles that mimic the flapping wing motion of flying biological organisms(e.g.,insects,birds,and bats).Three structurally identical wings were fabricated using different materials:acrylonitrile butadiene styrene(ABS),polylactic acid(PLA),and acrylic.Simplified wing frame structures were fabricated from these materials and then a nanocomposite film was adhered to them which mimics the membrane of an actual dragonfly.These wings were then attached to an electromagnetic actuator and passively flapped at frequencies of 10-250 Hz.A three-dimensional high frame rate imaging system was used to capture the flapping motions of these wings at a resolution of 320 pixels x 240 pixels and 35000 frames per second.The maximum bending angle,maximum wing tip deflection,maximum wing tip twist angle,and wing tip twist speed of each wing were measured and compared to each other and the actual dragonfly wing.The results show that the ABS wing has considerable flexibility in the chordwise direction,whereas the PLA and acrylic wings show better conformity to an actual dragonfly wing in the spanwise direction.Past studies have shown that the aerodynamic performance of a BMAV flapping wing is enhanced if its chordwise flexibility is increased and its spanwise flexibility is reduced.Therefore,the ABS wing(fabricated using a 3D printer) shows the most promising results for future applications. | Praveena Nair Sivasankaran Thomas Arthur Ward Erfan Salami Rubentheren Viyapuri Christopher J.Fearday Mohd Rafie Johan | 2017 | Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2017,30,2: | 5 |
| 5 | High-dose-rate intraluminal brachytherapy during preoperative chemoradiation for locally advanced rectal cancers显示文摘AIM:To determine the feasibility and safety of high dose rate intraluminal brachytherapy(HDR-ILBT) boost during preoperative chemoradiation for rectal cancer.METHODS:Between 2008 and 2009,thirty-six patients with locally advanced rectal cancer(≥ T3 or N+),were treated initially with concurrent capecitabine(825 mg/m2 oral twice daily) and pelvic external beam radiotherapy(EBRT)(45 Gy in 25 fractions),then were randomized to group A;HDR-ILBT group(n = 17) to receive 5.5-7 Gy×2 to gross tumor volume(GTV) and group B;EBRT group(n = 19) to receive 5.4 Gy×3 fractions to GTV with EBRT.All patients underwent total mesorectal excision.RESULTS:Grade 3 acute toxicities were registered in 12 patients(70.6%) in group A and in 8(42.1%) in group B.Complete pathologic response of T stage(ypT0) in group A was registered in 10 patients(58.8%) and in group B,3 patients(15.8%) had ypT0(P < 0.0001).Sphincter preservation was reported in 6/9 patients(66.7%) in group A and in 5/10 patients(50%) in group B(P < 0.01).Overall radiological response was 68.15% and 66.04% in Group A and B,respectively.During a median follow up of 18 mo,late grade 1 and 2 sequelae were registered in 3 patients(17.6%) and 4 patients(21.1%) in the groups A and B,respectively.CONCLUSION:HDR-ILBT was found to be effective dose escalation technique in preoperative chemoradiation for rectal cancers,with higher response rates,downstaging and with manageable acute toxicities. | Mutahir Ali Tunio Mansoor Rafi Altaf Hashmi Rehan Mohsin Abdul Qayyum Mujahid Hasan Amjad Sattar Muhammad Mubarak | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,35: | 3 |
| 6 | Static strength analysis of dragonfly inspired wings for biomimetic micro aerial vehicles显示文摘This article examines the suitability of fabricating artificial, dragonfly-like, wing frames from materials that are commonly used in unmanned aircraft(balsa wood, black graphite carbon fiber and red prepreg fiberglass). Wing frames made with Type 321 stainless steel are also examined for comparison. The purpose of these wings is for future use in biomimetic micro aerial vehicles(BMAV). BMAV are a new class of unmanned micro-sized aerial vehicles that mimic flying biological organisms(like flying insects). Insects, such as dragonflies, possess corrugated and complex vein structures that are difficult to mimic. Simplified dragonfly-like wing frames were fabricated from these materials and then a nano-composite film was adhered to them, which mimics the membrane of an actual dragonfly. Finite element analysis simulations were also performed and compared to experimental results. The results showed good agreement(less than 10% difference for all cases).Analysis of these results shows that stainless steel is a poor choice for this wing configuration, primarily because of the aggressive oxidation observed. Steel, as well as balsa wood, also lacks flexibility. | 7 | Flapping wing micro-aerial-vehicle: Kinematics, membranes, and flapping mechanisms of ornithopter and insect flight显示文摘The application of biomimetics in the development of unmanned-aerial-vehicles(UAV)has advanced to an exceptionally small scale of nano-aerial-vehicles(NAV), which has surpassed its immediate predecessor of micro-aerial-vehicles(MAV), leaving a vast range of development possibilities that MAVs have to offer. Because of the prompt advancement into the NAV research development, the true potential and challenges presented by MAV development were never solved,understood, and truly uncovered, especially under the influence of transition and low Reynolds number flow characteristics. This paper reviews a part of previous MAV research developments which are deemed important of notification; kinematics, membranes, and flapping mechanisms ranges from small birds to big insects, which resides within the transition and low Reynolds number regimes. This paper also reviews the possibility of applying a piezoelectric transmission used to produce NAV flapping wing motion and mounted on a MAV, replacing the conventional motorized flapping wing transmission. Findings suggest that limited work has been done for MAVs matching these criteria. | 8 | Interleukin-28 and hepatitis C virus genotype-4:Treatment-induced clearance and liver fibrosis显示文摘AIM:To investigate the association between interleukin-28B(IL28B) genotype and response to treatment and hepatic fibrosis in patients with hepatitis C virus(HCV) genotype 4.METHODS:Two hundred and one HCV-genotype 4 patients were included.All patients were treated with Peginterferon alph2a/Ribavirin for 48 wk.End of treatment response(ETR) was defined as loss of detectable serum HCV RNA at the end of treatment.Sustained viral response(SVR) was defined as loss of detectable serum HCV RNA at the end of 24 wk follow up.Genotyping of IL28B rs12979860 was performed using the TaqMan assay.We used logistic regression to estimate the adjusted odds ratio(aOR) and 95%CI.RESULTS:The study included 201 HCV-genotype 4 patients.The majority of patients were men(89.6%),with a median age of 47 years,inter-quartile range(40-51).Approximately 62.5% of patients had ETR,and 49.6% had SVR.Individuals who achieved SVR were more likely to be younger(χ 2 = 4.91,P = 0.027),and less likely to have fibrosis(χ 2 = 15.54,P < 0.0001),or inflammation(χ 2 = 7.58,P = 0.006).The genotype distribution of rs12979860 was 36.2%,49.0% and 14.8% for genotypes CC,CT,and TT,respectively.In these participants,rs12979860 genotype distribution did not differ by gender(P = 0.466),pretreatment viral load(P = 0.600),inflammation(P = 0.435),or fibrosis(P = 0.291).The frequencies of IL28B rs12979860 genotypes were TT(14.8%),CT(49.0%),and CC(36.2%).Compared to rs12979860 genotype TT,aORs(95%CI) for ETR and SVR were:CC genotype,[17.55(5.34-57.69) and 5.92(2.09-16.76),respectively];CT genotype,[5.15(1.80-14.78) and 2.48(0.94-6.52),respectively].In the current study,the patients who did not achieve ETR or SVR had a lower prevalence of rs12979860 CC(17.4% and 23.3%,respectively) than individuals who had ETR or SVR(47.9% and 47.2%,respectively).Individuals with rs12979860 CC genotype had approximately 6 times the odds of SVR compared to individuals with TT genotype(aOR = 5.92;95%CI:2.09-16.76).Similarly,patients with CT genotype had SVR more often than patients with TT genotype(aOR = 2.48;95%CI:0.94-6.52).Carrying at least one copy of the C allele(genotypes CT and CC) had almost 8 times the probability of ETR compared to those with genotype rs12979860 TT(aOR = 7.87;95%CI:2.84-21.82),and approximately 3 times the odds of SVR compared to those with genotype rs12979860 TT(aOR = 3.46;95%CI:1.37-8.74).In addition,data were consistent with a significant gene-dose relationship(aOR = 4.05/allele;95%CI:2.27-7.22).The association between rs12979860 genotype and SVR was similar among those who achieved and those who did not achieve SVR.CONCLUSION:In HCV-genotype 4 patients,rs12979860 is a sensitive predictor of viral clearance,independent of viral load,age,gender or fibrosis,with no similar relation to severity of fibrosis. | Moutaz Derbala Nasser Rizk Fatima Shebl Saad Alkaabi Nazeeh Eldweik Anil John Manik Sharma Rafie Yaqoob Muneera Almohanadi Mohammed Butt Khaled Alejji | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,47: | 2 |
| 9 | Microstructure Evolution and Mechanical Behavior of Laser Melting Deposited TA15 Alloy at 500℃ under In-Situ Tension in SEM显示文摘TA15 alloy fabricated by laser melting deposition was investigated at 500℃ under tensile deformation. The damage behavior of microstructure was analyzed by the real time observation of the microstructure evolution, microcracks initiation and propagation using in-situ tensile equipment fitted in the SEM chamber. Finally, the mechanism of fracture was discussed. The result showed anisotropic mechanical properties in X-and Z-direction. The existence of columnar β grains and its orientation to the tensile direction were the major factors inducing the anisotropic mechanical properties. As compared to Z-direction specimen, high tensile strength was observed in X-direction specimen due to the resistance in slips propagation provided by the prior-β grain boundaries( β GBs). Accumulation of the cracks at prior β GB caused the shear fracture. In case of Z-direction specimen, parallel orientation of prior β GB and GB α with the tensile direction resulted in a homogeneous deformation.
