| 1 | In vivo theranostics with near-infraredemitting carbon dots—highly efficient photothermal therapy based on passive targeting after intravenous administration显示文摘Carbon dots that exhibit near-infrared fluorescence(NIR CDs)are considered emerging nanomaterials for advanced biomedical applications with low toxicity and superior photostability and targeting compared to currently used photoluminescence agents.Despite progress in the synthesis of NIR CDs,there remains a key obstacle to using them as an in vivo theranostic agent.This work demonstrates that the newly developed sulfur and nitrogen codoped NIR CDs are highly efficient in photothermal therapy(PTT)in mouse models(conversion efficiency of 59%)and can be readily visualized by photoluminescence and photoacoustic imaging.The real theranostic potential of NIR CDs is enhanced by their unique biodistribution and targeting.Contrary to all other nanomaterials that have been tested in biomedicine,they are excreted through the body’s renal filtration system.Moreover,after intravenous injection,NIR CDs are accumulated in tumor tissue via passive targeting,without any active species such as antibodies.Due to their accumulation in tumor tissue without the need for intratumor injection,high photothermal conversion,excellent optical and photoacoustic imaging performance,and renal excretion,the developed CDs are suitable for transfer to clinical biomedical practice. | Xin Bao Ye Yuan Jingqin Chen Bohan Zhang Di Li Ding Zhou Pengtao Jing Guiying Xu Yingli Wang Kateřina Holá Dezhen Shen Changfeng Wu Liang Song Chengbo Liu Radek Zbořil Songnan Qu | 2018 | Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1: | 13 |
| 2 | Calreticulin and cancer显示文摘Calreticulin(CALR)is an endoplasmic reticulum(ER)-resident protein involved in a spectrum of cellular processes.In healthy cells,CALR operates as a chaperone and Ca^(2+)buffer to assist correct protein folding within the ER.Besides favoring the maintenance of cellular proteostasis,these cell-iintrinsic CALR functions support Ca^(2+)-dependent processes,such as adhesion and integrin signaling,and ensure normal antigen presentation on MHC Class I molecules.Moreover,cancer cells succumbing to immunogenic cell death(ICD)expose CALR on their surface,which promotes the uptake of cell corpses by professional phagocytes and ultimately supports the initiation of anticancer immunity.Thus,loss-of-function CALR mutations promote oncogenesis not only as they impair cellular homeostasis in healthy cells,but also as they compromise natural and therapy-driven immunosurveillanee.However,the prognostic impact of total or membrane-exposed CALR levels appears to vary considerably with cancer type.For instance,while genetic CALR defects promote pre-neoplastic myeloproliferation,patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms bearing CALR mutations often experience improved overall survival as compared to patients bearing wild-type CALR.Here,we discuss the context-dependent impact of CALR on malignant transformation,tumor progression and response to cancer therapy. | Jitka Fucikova Radek Spisek Guido Kroemerc Lorenzo Galluzzi | 2021 | Cell Research2021,31,1: | 12 |
| 3 | Natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgeryvs laparoscopic ovariectomy:Complications and inflammatory response显示文摘AIM:To compare natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) vs standard laparoscopic ovariectomy in mini pigs with respect to technical aspects,complications and parameters of systemic inflammatory response.METHODS:This was a randomized,experimental,survival study.Ten female mini pigs underwent NOTES transgastric ovariectomy (NOTES group) and ten female mini pigs underwent laparoscopic ovariectomy (LAP group).A 'percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy' approach with guidewire and sphincterotome was used for gastrotomy creation.The ovary was resected using standard biopsy forceps and a snare.The access site was closed using a 'KING' closure with a single endoloop and several clips.In the laparoscopic group,a three-port laparoscopy and an ovariectomy were performed with the use of standard laparoscopic devices.C-reactive protein (CRP),white blood count and interleukin (IL)-6 plasma levels were used as indicators of systemic inflammatory response.All animals were euthanized 28 d after surgery.RESULTS:All animals survived without complications.The mean procedure time was 41.3 min ± 17.6 min (NOTES group) and 25.7 min ± 5.25 min (LAP group,P < 0.02).Postmortem examinations demonstrated that 50% and 70% of animals were free of any complications in the NOTES and LAP groups,respectively.The remaining animals developed minor complications (adhesions) in a comparable frequency between the two groups.In the NOTES group,one animal developed a small intramural gastric abscess close to the gastrotomy site.A minor serous exudate that was present in 50% and 40% of the animals in the NOTES and laparoscopy groups,respectively,was not considered a complication.In both groups CRP levels increased significantly on the 2nd and 7th postoperative days (POD) and returned to normal after 28 d.On POD 2,an increase of CRP level was significantly higher in the NOTES group compared to the LAP group.Values of IL-6 did not differ from baseline values in either of the groups postoperatively.Interestingly,the platelet count decreased significantly on POD 2,but returned close to baseline values on POD 7 and PODs 28-30.CONCLUSION:Both NOTES and laparoscopic ovariectomies had a similar frequency of minor complications.However,the NOTES technique produced an increased systemic inflammatory response on POD 2. | Jan Martínek Ondej Ryska Tereza Filípková Radek Dolezel Stefan Juhas Jan Motlík Monika Holubová Vladimír Nosek Barbora Rotnáglová Miroslav Zavoral Miroslav Ryska | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,27: | 4 |
| 4 | The composition and diversity of natural regeneration of tree species in gaps under different intensities of forest disturbance显示文摘The positive ecological interaction between gap formation and natural regeneration has been examined but little research has been carried out on the effects of gaps on natural regeneration in forests under different intensities of disturbance.This study evaluates the composition,diversity,regeneration density and abundance of natural regeneration of tree species in gaps in undisturbed,intermittently disturbed,and disturbed forest sites.Bia Tano Forest Reserve in Ghana was the study area and three gaps each were selected in the three forest site categories.Ten circular subsampling areas of 1 m2 were delineated at 2 m spacing along north,south,east,and west transects within individual gaps.Data on natural regeneration<350 cm height were gathered.The results show that the intensity of disturbance was disproportional to gap size.Species diversity differed significantly between undisturbed and disturbed sites and,also between intermittently disturbed and disturbed sites for Simpson’s(1-D),Equitability(J),and Berger-Parker(B-P)indices.However,there was no significant difference among forest sites for Shannon diversity(H)and Margalef richness(MI)indices.Tree species composition on the sites differed.Regeneration density on the disturbed site was significantly higher than on the two other sites.Greater abundance and density of shade-dependent species on all sites identified them as opportunistic replacements of gap-dependent pioneers.Pioneer species giving way to shade tolerant species is a natural process,thus make them worst variant in gap regeneration. | Maame Esi Hammond Radek Pokorný Daniel Okae-Anti Augustine Gyedu Irene Otwuwa Obeng | 2021 | Journal of Forestry Research2021,32,5: | 3 |
| 5 | Determination of coefficients of friction for laminated veneer lumber on steel under high pressure loads显示文摘In this study,static coefficients of friction for laminated veneer lumber on steel surfaces were determined experimentally.The focus was on the frictional behaviors at different pressure levels,which were studied in combination with other influencing parameters:fiber orientation,moisture content,and surface roughness.Coefficients of friction were obtained as 0.10–0.30 for a smooth steel surface and as high as 0.80 for a rough steel surface.Pressure influenced the measured coefficients of friction,and lower normal pressures yielded higher coefficients.The influence of fiber angle was observed to be moderate,although clearly detectable,thereby resulting in a higher coefficient of friction when sliding perpendicular rather than parallel to the grain.Moist specimens contained higher coefficients of friction than oven-dry specimens.The results provide realistic values for practical applications,particularly for use as input parameters of numerical simulations where the role of friction is often wrongfully considered. | Michael DORN Karolína HABROVÁ Radek KOUBEK Erik SERRANO | 2021 | Friction2021,9,2: | 2 |

| 7 | Leaf area index estimated by direct, semi-direct, and indirect methods in European beech and sycamore maple stands显示文摘Leaf area index(LAI)is one of the most important characteristics of forest stands that affects the fundamentals of tree physiological processes,biomass production,and mechanical stability.The LAI results obtained by the semi-direct and indirect methods(the needle technique and an LAI-2000 PCA)in three European beech(Fagus sylvatica L.)stands and one sycamore maple(Acer pseudoplatanus L.)stand were compared with LAI estimated by litter traps during the 2013 growing season.Seasonal LAI was estimated using an LAI-2000 PCA which showed similar trends among the stands and strongly corresponded to phenological phases of deciduous stands in Europe,with the fastest rate of leaf area increment occurring during the first month following bud break.During the growing season,maximum stand LAI value was on June 19th and reached 4.5–5.1,and 4.0 in the beech and maple stands,respectively.The needle technique significantly underestimated(p<0.05)direct LAI on average by 22.0% and 40.0% in the beech and maple stands,respectively.The LAI-2000 PCA insignificantly underestimated(p>05)LAI on average by 15.1%and 5.8%in the beech and maple stands,respectively.All methods for LAI estimation at the stand level could be applicable in deciduous forest stands(beech,maple)with similar site and stand characteristics.However,calibration by direct method is necessary to obtain the required precision. | Jakub Cerny Pavel Haninec Radek Pokorny | 2020 | Journal of Forestry Research2020,31,3: | 2 |
