| 2 | Examining the effect of adverse geological conditions on jamming of a single shielded TBM in Uluabat tunnel using numerical modeling显示文摘Severe shield jamming events have been reported during excavation of Uluabat tunnel through adverse geological conditions, which resulted in several stoppages at advancing a single shielded tunnel boring machine(TBM). To study the jamming mechanism, three-dimensional(3D) simulation of the machine and surrounding ground was implemented using the finite difference code FLAC3D. Numerical analyses were performed for three sections along the tunnel with a higher risk for entrapment due to the combination of overburden and geological conditions. The computational results including longitudinal displacement contours and ground pressure profiles around the shield allow a better understanding of ground behavior within the excavation. Furthermore, they allow realistically assessing the impact of adverse geological conditions on shield jamming. The calculated thrust forces, which are required to move the machine forward, are in good agreement with field observations and measurements. | 4 | Progress in the development of vaccines for hepatitis C virus infection显示文摘The hepatitis C virus(HCV), first described in 1989, is now a leading cause of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. With more than 170 million people infected globally, this virus is a major public health issue. The current standard therapy is based on interferon in combination with ribavirin. This costly therapy often fails to completely clear the infection and is associated with adverse side effects. Recent anti-HCV therapies are interferon-free direct-acting antiviral(DAA) regimens for HCV, including simeprevir, sofosbuvir, and ledipasvir, which have effects on non-structural proteins. DAA regimens have several advantages, such as specifically targeting HCV viral replication, accompanied by very high sustained virological response rates and lower side effects like flu-like syndrome. These facts plus the fact that most HCV cases progress to chronic infection suggest the potential need for an efficient HCV vaccine. Different innovative methods, including methods based on peptide, recombinant protein, DNA, vector-based, and virus-like particles, have been introduced for the development of HCV vaccines. An extensive number of studies have been published on these vaccines, and some vaccines were even tested in clinical trials. | 5 | Prediction of flyrock distance induced by mine blasting using a novel Harris Hawks optimization-based multi-layer perceptron neural network显示文摘In mining or construction projects,for exploitation of hard rock with high strength properties,blasting is frequently applied to breaking or moving them using high explosive energy.However,use of explosives may lead to the flyrock phenomenon.Flyrock can damage structures or nearby equipment in the surrounding areas and inflict harm to humans,especially workers in the working sites.Thus,prediction of flyrock is of high importance.In this investigation,examination and estimation/forecast of flyrock distance induced by blasting through the application of five artificial intelligent algorithms were carried out.One hundred and fifty-two blasting events in three open-pit granite mines in Johor,Malaysia,were monitored to collect field data.The collected data include blasting parameters and rock mass properties.Site-specific weathering index(WI),geological strength index(GSI) and rock quality designation(RQD)are rock mass properties.Multi-layer perceptron(MLP),random forest(RF),support vector machine(SVM),and hybrid models including Harris Hawks optimization-based MLP(known as HHO-MLP) and whale optimization algorithm-based MLP(known as WOA-MLP) were developed.The performance of various models was assessed through various performance indices,including a10-index,coefficient of determination(R^(2)),root mean squared error(RMSE),mean absolute percentage error(MAPE),variance accounted for(VAF),and root squared error(RSE).The a10-index values for MLP,RF,SVM,HHO-MLP and WOA-MLP are 0.953,0.933,0.937,0.991 and 0.972,respectively.R^(2) of HHO-MLP is 0.998,which achieved the best performance among all five machine learning(ML) models. | Bhatawdekar Ramesh Murlidhar Hoang Nguyen Jamal Rostami XuanNam Bui Danial Jahed Armaghani Prashanth Ragam Edy Tonnizam Mohamad | 2021 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2021,13,6: | 6 |
| 6 | Accumulation of heavy metal in Platanus orientalis, Robinia pseudoacacia and Fraxinus rotundifolia显示文摘Plants are capable of reducing environmental pollutions through uptaking contaminants in their tissues. In the study site, twenty one-year-old leaves and shoots as well as twenty soil samples were sampled and analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP). We investigated the uptaking ability of lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) by the leaves and shoots of Platanus orientalis, Robinia pseudoacacia and Fraxinus rotundifolia in Karaj city, the western Tehran, Iran. We also evaluated the total metal accumulation capacity by using metal accumulation index (MAI). Results indicated that there was no significant difference in uptaking contents of Cd and Pb in the leaves among the trees. However accumulation of Cd in shoots of F. rotundifolia and R. pseudoacacia was significantly higher than that of P. orientalis. The accumulation of Pb in shoots of R. pseudoacacia was significantly higher than the other species. The amount of Pb in the soil of the study area was significantly higher than Cd. Concentrations of Cd and Pb in leaves of the three species are in the ranges of 2.4 2.7 mg Kg-1 and 7.1 14.4 mg Kg-1 , respectively. | 11 | Rock characterization while drilling and application of roof bolter drilling data for evaluation of ground conditions显示文摘Despite recent advances in mine health and safety, roof collapse and instabilities are still the leading causes of injury and fatality in underground mining operations. Improving safety and optimum design of ground support requires good and reliable ground characterization. While many geophysical methods have been developed for ground characterizations, their accuracy is insufficient for customized ground support design of underground workings. The actual measurements on the samples of the roof and wall strata from the exploration boring are reliable but the related holes are far apart, thus unsuitable for design purposes. The best source of information could be the geological back mapping of the roof and walls, but this is disruptive to mining operations, and provided information is only from rock surface.Interpretation of the data obtained from roof bolt drilling can offer a good and reliable source of information that can be used for ground characterization and ground support design and evaluations. This paper offers a brief review of the mine roof characterization methods, followed by introduction and discussion of the roof characterization methods by instrumented roof bolters. | 13 | The effect of nanoparticles on wettability alteration for enhanced oil recovery: micromodel experimental studies and CFD simulation显示文摘The applications of nanotechnology in oilfields have attracted the attention of researchers to nanofluid injection as a novel approach for enhanced oil recovery. To better understand the prevailing mechanisms in such new displacement scenarios,micromodel experiments provide powerful tools to visually observe the way that nanoparticles may mobilize the trapped oil.In this work, the e ect of silicon oxide nanoparticles on the alteration of wettability of glass micromodels was investigated in both experimental and numerical simulation approaches. The displacement experiments were performed on the original water-wet and imposed oil-wet(after aging in stearic acid/n-heptane solution) glass micromodels. The results of injection of nanofluids into the oil-saturated micromodels were then compared with those of the water injection scenarios. The flooding scenarios in the micromodels were also simulated numerically with the computational fluid dynamics(CFD) method. A good agreement between the experimental and simulation results was observed. | 20 | Gene-diet interaction of FTO-rs9939609 gene variant and hypocaloric diet on glycemic control in overweight and obese adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical trials显示文摘Background:The hypocaloric diets improve glycemic status in obese individuals,but the response to hypocaloric diets in fat mass and obesity-associated gene(FTO)-rs9939609 gene variant is unknown.This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the gene-diet interaction of FTO-rs9939609 gene variant and hypocaloric diets on glycemic control in overweight and obese adults.Methods:Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials,PubMed,ISI Web of Science,Embase,Scopus,and Google scholar were searched up to December 2018,for relevant clinical trials.Mean changes in fasting blood sugar(FBS),serum insulin,and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR)were extracted.Results:The pooled analysis of nine studies showed that there was no significant difference between AA/AT and TT genotypes in FBS(weighted mean difference[WMD]=0.01,95%confidence interval[CI]:-1.08,1.10,P=0.984)and serum insulin(WMD=0.20,95%CI:-0.85,1.26;P=0.707)after intervention hypocaloric diets.The overweight/obese participants in AA/AT group showed the greatest reduction in HOMA-IR compared with TT genotype following intervention,and this difference was not statistically significant(WMD=-0.38,95%CI:-0.94,0.16,P=0.167).Conclusion:This meta-analysis suggests that there was no significant difference between AA/AT and TT genotypes of FTO-rs9939609 on FBS,serum insulin level,and insulin resistance in response to hypocaloric diets. | Karim Parastouei Hosein Rostami Amirhossein Ahmadi Ramezani Hamidreza Tavakoli Meysam Alipour | 2020 | Chinese Medical Journal2020,,3: | 2 |
