| 1 | A review of the effects of dietary organic acids fed to swine显示文摘Animal production depends on nutrient utilization and if done there is an accelerated momentum towards growth with a low cost to feed ratio Public concern over the consumption of pork with antibiotic residues of the animals fed with antibiotic growth promoters(AGP) has paved the way to use other additives like herbs and their products,probiotics,prebiotics etc.Numerous feed additives are in vogue for achieving this target and one such classical example is the usage of organic acids and their salts.Usage of organic acids was in progress for over four decades.Early weaned piglets are(3-4 weeks age) exposed to stress with a reduced feed intake,little or no weight gain.This post weaning lag period is due to a limited digestive and absorptive capacity due to insufficient production of hydrochloric acid,pancreatic enzymes and sudden changes in feed consistency and intake.Lowering dietary pH by weak organic acids was found to overcome these problems.The main activity of organic acids is associated with a reduction in gastric pH converting the inactive pepsinogen to active pepsin for effective protein hydrolysis.Organic acids are both bacteriostatic and bactericidal.Lactic acid has been reported to reduce gastric pH and delay the multiplication of an enterotoxigenic E.coli.These acids are the intermediary products in Kreb's cycle and thus act as an energy source preventing the tissue breakdown resulting from gluconeogenesis and lipolysis.Excretion of supplemental minerals and nitrogen are minimized with organic acids as these form complexes with minerals and aids for their bio-availability.Short chain fatty cids like acetic,propionic and n-butyric acid produced by microbial fermentation of dietary fibre in the large intestines may increase the proliferation of epithelial cells and have stimulatory effects on both endocrine and exocrine pancreatic secretions in pigs.Organic acids also enhances apparent total tract digestibility and improves growth performance.It is concluded that organic acids and their salts increase the protein utilization especially in weaner pigs and improves production indices. | Mocherla V A N Suiryanrayna J V Ramana | 2016 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2016,7,1: | 15 |
| 2 | Statistical design and evaluation of a propranolol HCl gastric floating tablet显示文摘The purpose of this research was to apply statistical design for the preparation of a gastric floating tablet(GFT)of propranolol HCl and to investigate the effect of formulation variables on drug release and the buoyancy properties of the delivery system.The contents of polyethylene oxide(PEO)WSR coagulant and sodium bicarbonate were used as independent variables in central composite design of the best formulation.Main effects and interaction terms of the formulation variables were evaluated quantitatively using a mathematical model approach showing that both independent variables have significant effects on floating lag time,%drug release at 1 h(D_(1h))and time required to release 90%of the drug(t_(90)).The desired function was used to optimize the response variables,each with a different target,and the observed responses were in good agreement with the experimental values.FTIR and DSC studies of the statistically optimized formulation revealed there was no chemical interaction between drug and polymer.The statistically optimized formulation released drug according to first order kinetics with a non-Fickian diffusion mechanism.Evaluation of the optimized formulation in vivo in human volunteers showed that the GFT was buoyant in gastric fluid and that its gastric residence time was enhanced in the fed but not the fasted state. | Meka Venkata Srikanth Nali Sreenivasa Rao Songa Ambedkar Sunil Battu Janaki Ram Venkata Ramana Murthy Kolapalli | 2012 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2012,2,1: | 6 |

| 5 | Effect of Diffuser Vane Shape on the Performance of a Centrifugal Compressor Stage显示文摘The present paper reports the results of experimental investigations on the effect of diffuser vane shape on the performance of a centrifugal compressor stage.These studies were conducted on the chosen stage having a backward curved impeller of 500 mm tip diameter and 24.5 mm width and its design flow coefficient is Фd=0.0535.Three different low solidity diffuser vane shapes namely uncambered aerofoil,constant thickness flat plate and circular arc cambered constant thickness plate were chosen as the variants for diffuser vane shape and all the three shapes have the same thickness to chord ratio(t/c=0.1).Flow coefficient,polytropic efficiency,total head coefficient,power coefficient and static pressure recovery coefficient were chosen as the parameters for evaluating the effect of diffuser vane shape on the stage performance.The results show that there is reasonable improvement in stage efficiency and total head coefficient with the use of the chosen diffuser vane shapes as compared to conventional vaneless diffuser.It is also noticed that the aero foil shaped LSD has shown better performance when compared to flat plate and circular arc profiles.The aerofoil vane shape of the diffuser blade is seen to be tolerant over a considerable range of incidence. | T Ch Siva Reddy GV Ramana Murty MVSSSM Prasad | 2014 | Journal of Thermal Science2014,23,2: | 4 |

| 7 | Identification of predictive MRI and functional biomarkers in a pediatric piglet traumatic brain injury model显示文摘Traumatic brain injury(TBI) at a young age can lead to the development of long-term functional impairments. Severity of injury is well demonstrated to have a strong influence on the extent of functional impairments;however, identification of specific magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) biomarkers that are most reflective of injury severity and functional prognosis remain elusive. Therefore, the objective of this study was to utilize advanced statistical approaches to identify clinically relevant MRI biomarkers and predict functional outcomes using MRI metrics in a translational large animal piglet TBI model. TBI was induced via controlled cortical impact and multiparametric MRI was performed at 24 hours and 12 weeks post-TBI using T1-weighted, T2-weighted, T2-weighted fluid attenuated inversion recovery, diffusion-weighted imaging, and diffusion tensor imaging. Changes in spatiotemporal gait parameters were also assessed using an automated gait mat at 24 hours and 12 weeks post-TBI. Principal component analysis was performed to determine the MRI metrics and spatiotemporal gait parameters that explain the largest sources of variation within the datasets. We found that linear combinations of lesion size and midline shift acquired using T2-weighted imaging explained most of the variability of the data at both 24 hours and 12 weeks post-TBI. In addition, linear combinations of velocity, cadence, and stride length were found to explain most of the gait data variability at 24 hours and 12 weeks post-TBI. Linear regression analysis was performed to determine if MRI metrics are predictive of changes in gait. We found that both lesion size and midline shift are significantly correlated with decreases in stride and step length. These results from this study provide an important first step at identifying relevant MRI and functional biomarkers that are predictive of functional outcomes in a clinically relevant piglet TBI model.
