2Antibacterial effect of Allium sativum cloves and Zingiber officinale rhizomes against multiple-drug resistant clinical pathogens显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antibacterial properties ot Allium sativum(garlic) cloves and Zingiber officinale(ginger) rhizomes against multi-drug resistant clinical pathogens causing nosocomial infection.Methods:The cloves of garlic and rhizomes of ginger were extracted with 95%(v/v) ethanol.The ethanolic extracts were subjected to antibacterial sensitivity test against clinical pathogens.Results:Anti-bacterial potentials of the extracts of two crude garlic cloves and ginger rhizomes were tested against five gram negative and two gram positive multi-drug resistant bacteria isolates.All the bacterial isolates were susceptible to crude extracts of both plants extracts.Except Enterobacter sp.and Klebsiella sp.,all other isolates were susceptible when subjected to ethanolic extracts of garlic and ginger.The highest inhibition zone was observed with garlic(19.4S mm) against Pseudomonas aeruginosa(P.aeruginosa).The minimal inhibitory concentration was as low as 67.00 μg/mL against P.aeruginosa.Conclusions:Natural spices of garlic and ginger possess effective anti-bacterial activity against multi-drug clinical pathogens and can be used for prevention of drug resistant microbial diseases and further evaluation is necessary.Ponmurugan Karuppiah Shyamkumar Rajaram 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,8:14
3Effective and Efficient Feature Selection for Large-scale Data Using Bayes' Theorem显示文摘This paper proposes one method of feature selection by using Bayes theorem. The purpose of the proposed method is to reduce the computational complexity and increase the classification accuracy of the selected feature subsets. The dependence between two attributes (binary) is determined based on the probabilities of their joint values that contribute to positive and negative classification decisions. If opposing sets of attribute values do not lead to opposing classification decisions (zero probability), then the two attributes are considered independent of each other, otherwise dependent, and one of them can be removed and thus the number of attributes is reduced. The process must be repeated on all combinations of attributes. The paper also evaluates the approach by comparing it with existing feature selection algorithms over 8 datasets from University of California, Irvine (UCI) machine learning databases. 4抗氧化剂和吲哚生物碱在粉红色和白色长春花植株不同部位中的分布(英文)显示文摘目的研究抗氧化剂和吲哚生物碱在2种长春花(粉红色和白色)植株不同部位的分布。方法通过检测无酶活性的抗氧化分子含量和抗氧化酶活性测定抗氧化能力。无酶活性的抗氧化分子包括抗坏血酸、α-生育酚和还原型谷胱甘肽。抗氧化酶包括超氧化物歧化酶、抗坏血酸过氧化物酶、过氧化氢酶、过氧化物酶和多酚氧化酶。所用样品为从田间收集到的植株的根、茎、叶、花和豆荚。结果与其他部位比较,根和茎中抗氧化剂的含量较高,花和豆荚中含量最低。粉红色长春花中抗氧化剂和生物碱含量较高。叶中抗氧化酶的活性较高,但吲哚生物碱的含量在粉红色长春花的根中较高。结论对于抗氧化剂和生物碱含量而言,粉红色长春花更适合培养。Cheruth Abdul JALEEL Rajaram PANNEERSELVAM 2007中国药理学与毒理学杂志2007,21,6:5

6Aeromagnetic signatures of Precambrian shield and suture zones of Peninsular India显示文摘In many Precambrian provinces the understanding of the tectonic history is constrained by limited exposure and aeromagnetic data provide information below the surface cover of sediments,water,etc.and help build a tectonic model of the region.The advantage of using the aeromagnetic data is that the data set has uniform coverage and is independent of the accessibility of the region.In the present study,available reconnaissance scale aeromagnetic data over Peninsular India are analyzed to understand the magnetic signatures of the Precambrian shield and suture zones thereby throwing light on the tectonics of the region.Utilizing a combination of differential reduction to pole map,analytic signal,vertical and tilt derivative and upward continuation maps we are able to identify magnetic source distribution,tectonic elements,terrane boundaries,suture zones and metamorphic history of the region.The magnetic sources in the region are mainly related to charnockites,iron ore and alkaline intrusives.Our analysis suggests that the Chitradurga boundary shear and Sileru shear are terrane boundaries while we interpret the signatures of Palghat Cauvery and Achankovil shears to represent suture zones.Processes like metamorphism leave their signatures on the magnetic data:prograde granulites(charnockites)and retrograde eclogites are known to have high susceptibility.We fnd that charnockites intruded by alkali plutons have higher magnetization compared to the retrogressed charnockites.We interpret that the Dharwar craton to the north of isograd representing greenschist to amphibolite facies transition,has been subjected to metamorphism under low geothermal conditions.Some recent studies suggest a plate tectonic model of subductionecollisioneaccretion tectonics around the Palghat Cauvery shear zone(PCSZ).Our analysis is able to identify several west to east trending high amplitude magnetic anomalies with deep sources in the region from Palghat Cauvery shear to Achankovil shear.The magnetic high associated with PCSZ may represent the extruded high pressureeultra high temperature metamorphic belt(granulites at shallow levels and retrogressed eclogites at deeper levels)formed as a result of subduction process.The EW highs within the Madurai block can be related to the metamorphosed clastic sediments,BIF and mafc/ultramafc bodies resulting from the process of accretion.Mita Rajaram S.P.Anand 2014Geoscience Frontiers2014,5,1:3

9Synthesis and Characterization of Rare Earth Ion Doped Nano ZnO显示文摘Zinc oxide(ZnO) doped with erbium at different concentrations was synthesized by solid-state reaction method and characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopic(SEM), UVabsorption spectroscopy, photoluminescence(PL) study and vibrating sample magnetometer. The XRD studies exhibit the presence of wurtzite crystal structure similar to the parent compound ZnO in 1% Er^(3+)doped Zn O,suggesting that doped Er^(3+)ions sit at the regular Zn^(2+)sites. However, same studies spread over the samples with Er^(3+)content>1% reveals the occurrence of secondary phase. SEM images of 1% Er^(3+)doped ZnO show the polycrystalline nature of the synthesized sample. UV-visible absorption spectrum of Er^(3+)doped ZnO nanocrystals shows a strong absorption peak at 388 nm due to ZnO band to band transition. The PL study exhibits emission in the visible region, due to excitonic as well as defect related transitions. 13Preliminary study on the antimicrobial activity of Enicostemma littorale using different solvents显示文摘Objective:To study the antimicrobial activity of Enicostemma littorale(E.littorale) using different solvents.Methods:Chloroform,methanol and acetone extracts of different parts of E.littorale(leaf,stem and root) were evaluated for antimicrobial activity using disc diffusion method against some gram-negative species such as Escherichia coli,Klebsiella pnemoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Salmonella typhi and gram-positive species Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus,Bacillus subtilis and two fugal species viz.,Aspergillus fumigates and Aspergillus flavus.Results:The chloroform extracts showed the highest antibacterial activity.Among leaf, stem and root extracts,the stem extracts showed maximum antibacterial activity.All of the used extracts had no significant antifungal activity against Aspergillus fumigates and Aspergillus flavus.The chloroform stem extract showed highest activity(about 20 mm inhibition zone) against Bacillus subtilis(at 500 tng/mL) followed by the methanolic stem extract which showed highest activity against the same organism.The lowest antibacterial activity was observed by the acetone leaf extract(about 8 mm inhibition zone) against Escherichia coli.Conclusions:The findings of the study indicate littorale could also be a new source for antibiotics discovery.Pitchamuthu Abirami Muthiah Gomathinayagam Rajaram Panneerselvam 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2012,5,7:1
