| 1 | UV/Vis Characterization and Fate of Organic Amendment Fractions in a Dune Soil in Dakar, Senegal显示文摘The application of organic amendments on soils poor in organic matter(OM) can improve long-term soil fertility, but may also enhance the mineralization of native soil organic matter. Three organic amendments, compost, sewage sludge and horse manure, used by urban market gardeners in Dakar, Senegal were analyzed for their OM maturity. Their fate was evaluated in a 45-d agronomic trial in a sandy Arenosol with lettuce. In each case, water-extractable organic matter(WEOM) and humic-like substances(HLS)were isolated from raw amendments and amended soils, and characterized using ultraviolet-visible(UV/Vis) spectroscopy. Results highlighted the general more aromatic character of HLS and WEOM fractions extracted from compost compared to the other two amendments. When applied to soils, however, these differences were not clearly observed. The aromaticity and humification degree of the labile fraction(WEOM) increased with depth in the first 30 cm for all amendments. This indicated the high lixiviation rates that fresh OM underwent in the studied sandy soil. Finally, a statistical analysis of the results was able to discriminate between surface and deeper horizons and between amended- and non-amended soil samples. Spectroscopic indices showed indeed strong increase/decrease with depth linked with the mineralization/humification processes that the fresh OM from amendments underwent during the 45 d of the agronomic trial. | 6 | Clinical forensic imaging and fundamental rights in Austria显示文摘Clinical forensic imaging encompasses the diverse application of imaging procedures that serve the same purpose:to enable the analysis and investigation of criminal activities and consequences of a crime.All kinds of imaging techniques and their corresponding images can be subsumed under“forensigraphy”,a more comprehensive term for forensic imaging created by the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Clinical Forensic Imaging in Graz,Austria.As the word forensigraphy suggests,criminal imaging material should be of use in forensic investigations.Ideally,this can lead to new findings that would not have been revealed without the application of imaging techniques and are moreover admissible as evidence in criminal proceedings.However,the admissibility of evidence can only be facilitated through the implementation of clinical forensic imaging techniques into the forensic routine case work,which requires a precise pre-analysis of the corresponding legal framework.Because taking and displaying internal images of a person’s body touches upon various aspects of one’s physical and psychological integrity,imaging methods in general and clinical forensic imaging methods especially have a strong impact on and interfere regularly with the fundamental rights of the concerned person.Particularly with regard to a possible medical context,certain legal regulations have to be taken into account.Therefore,this paper examines forensic imaging in the field of radiological forensigraphy,specifically its in vivo(i.e.clinical)application.It is designed to enlighten readers as to the great significance of legal barriers that emerge from fundamental rights,as laid down in the European Convention on Human Rights(ECHR),when dealing with clinical forensic imaging.As a result,the legal framework of clinical forensic imaging procedures are comprehensively described,the relevant fundamental rights,especially the right to respect for private and family life,the right to data protection and certain procedural guarantees,are concisely presented to further raise awareness regarding the importance of fundamental rights. | Sophie Kerbacher Michael Pfeifer Bridgette Webb Reingard Riener-Hofer | 2017 | Forensic Sciences Research2017,2,2: | 3 |

| 10 | Hydrothermal carbonization of agricultural residues:A case study of the farm residues-based biogas plants显示文摘Hydrothermal carbonization(HTC)of biomass is a promising method to produce carbonaceous materials.The work presented in this article addresses the application of hydrothermal carbonization(HTC)to produce a solid fuel named HTC-Biochar,whose characteristics are comparable to lignite coal.Biogas sludge(SD),maize silage(MS),and barley silage(BS)as a substrates were hydrothermally carbonized in a 1.5 L batch reactor at 200C for 6 h.The effect of mixing ratios of different substrates on HTC was investigated.Chemical compositions and combustion characteristics of hydro-chars obtained from mono-and co-carbonization were evaluated.Result showed that HTC increased carbon contents and higher heating values(HHV)by 1.4–14.4%and 13–36%,respectively.The evolution of the H/C and O/C atomic ratios indicated that dehydration and decarboxylation occurred during hydrothermal carbonization for all samples.Furthermore,a significant synergistic enhancement was observed for HHV and carbon content.A mixing ratio of 1:1 for BS and SD showed the best performance for co-HTC.In summary,hydrothermal co-carbonization is a promising strategy to tailor high-performance hydro-char for energy applications. | Samar Seyedsadr Rafat Al Afif Christoph Pfeifer | 2018 | Carbon Resources Conversion2018,1,1: | 2 |
