| 1 | The methionine synthase polymorphism D919G alters susceptibility to primary central nervous system lymphoma(英文)显示文摘Primary central nervous system lymphomas (PCNSL) frequently reveal genomic instability. We analysed different functional genetic variants affecting the folate and homocysteine metabolism important for DNA integrity in 31 PCNSL patients and 142 controls. We found significantly less carriers of the methionine synthase c. 2756A> G (D919G) missense polymorphism among the patients (0.16 vs 0.42; odds ratio 0.26, CI(95%): 0.09-0.74; P=0.005), suggesting a protective function of the G allele. | 2 | “En bloc ” caudate lobe and inferior vena cava resection following cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for peritoneal and liver metastasis of colorectal cancer显示文摘There are diverse protocols to manage patients with recurrent disease after primary cytoreductive surgery(CRS) with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy(HIPEC) for peritoneal carcinomatosis. We describe a case of metachronous liver metastasis after CRS and HIPEC for colorectal cancer, successfully treated with a selective metastectomy and partial graft of the inferior vena cava. A 35-year-old female presented with a large tumour in the cecum and consequent colonic stenosis. After an emergency right colectomy, the patient received adjuvant chemotherapy. One year later she was diagnosed with peritoneal carcinomatosis, and it was decided to carry out a CRS/HIPEC. After 2 years of total remission, an isolated metachronous liver metastasis was detected by magnetic resonance imaging surveillance. The patient underwent a third procedure including a caudate lobe and partial inferior vena cava resection with a prosthetic graft interposition, achieving an R0 situation. The postoperative course was uneventful and the patient was discharged on postoperative day 17 after the liver resection. At 18-mo follow-up after the liver resection the patient remained free of recurrence. In selected patients, the option of re-operation due to recurrent disease should be discussed. | 5 | Comparative study of the efficacy and safety of bromfenac, nepafenac and diclofenac sodium for the prevention of cystoid macular edema after phacoemulsification显示文摘● AIM: To compare the efficacy, tolerability and safety of bromfenac 0.09%, nepafenac 0.1% or diclofenac 0.1% for the prophylaxis of the cystoid macular edema(CME) after phacoemulsification.● METHODS: Group sequential observational comparative study. After phacoemulsification, patients received two months for topical treatment of either diclofenac sodium, bromfenac or nepafenac. All patients received concomitant topical tobramycin 0.3% and topical prednisolone 1%. We measured CME using optical coherence tomography(OCT) central foveal thickness, macular thickness and total macular volume.● RESULTS: We enrolled 243 patients from January to June 2015, and 35% received diclofenac, 32.9% bromfenac and 32.1% nepafenac. When we compared pre-operative to three weeks to two months, bromfenac was more effective in reducing foveal volume(21.3 and 35.4 mm3, respectively), compared with the diclofenac(1.3 and 11.5 mm3, respectively), and the nepafenac group, became more edematous 6.4 and 5.3, respectively. Totally 133 patients completed the post-surgical satisfaction questionnaire. | 9 | Climate,female traits and population features as drivers of breeding timing in Mediterranean red deer populations显示文摘Understanding the factors that lead to variation in the timing of breeding in widespread species such as red deer(Cervus elaphus)is crucial to predict possible responses of wild populations to different climate scenarios.Here,we sought to further understand the causes of inter-annual variation in the reproduction timing of female deer in Mediterranean environments.An integrative approach was used to identify the relative importance of individual,population and climate traits in the date of conception of free-ranging deer,based on a dataset of 829 hinds culled during 12 years.We found that a population trait,density,was the most important factor explaining the variation in conception dates,with greater densities causing later conception dates.Body mass was the second in importance,with heavier females conceiving earlier than lighter ones.Almost equally important was the spring real bioclimatic index,a measure of plant productivity,causing later conception dates in the least productive springs(drier and hotter).Another climatic component,the end of summer drought,showed that the sooner the autumn arrives(greater rainfalls and cooler temperatures)the earlier the conception dates.Interestingly,age class was found to be a minor factor in determining conception date.Only older females(≥10 years old)conceived significantly later,suggesting reproductive senescence.This study highlights not only the importance of population and individual traits but also the influence of climatic parameters on the deer reproductive cycle in Mediterranean environments,giving valuable insight into how reproductive phenology may respond to seasonality and global climate changes. | Marta PELÁEZ Alfonso SAN MIGUEL Carlos RODRÍGUEZ-VIGAL Ramón PEREA | 2017 | Integrative Zoology2017，12，5： | 2 |
