| 1 | A review of recent advances in tribology显示文摘The reach of tribology has expanded in diverse fields and tribology related research activities have seen immense growth during the last decade.This review takes stock of the recent advances in research pertaining to different aspects of tribology within the last 2 to 3 years.Different aspects of tribology that have been reviewed including lubrication,wear and surface engineering,biotribology,high tem perature tribology,and computational tribology.This review attempts to highlight recent research and also presents future outlook pertaining to these aspects.It may however be noted that there are limitations of this review.One of the most important of these is that tribology being a highly multidisciplinary field,the research results are widely spread across various disciplines and there can be omissions because of this.Secondly,the topics dealt with in the field of tribology include only some of the salient topics(such as lubrication,wear,surface engineering,biotribology,high tem perature tribology,and computational tribology)but there are many more aspects of tribology that have not been covered in this review.Despite these limitations it is hoped that such a review will bring the most recent salient research in focus and will be beneficial for the growing community of tribology researchers. | Yonggang MENG Jun XU Zhongmin JIN Braham PRAKASH Yuanzhong HU | 2020 | Friction2020,8,2: | 31 |
| 2 | Anterior resection for rectal carcinoma-risk factors for anastomotic leaks and strictures显示文摘AIM:To determine the incidence and factors responsible for anastomotic leaks and stricture following anterior resection(AR)and its subsequent management.METHODS:Retrospective analysis of data from 108 patients with rectal carcinoma who underwent AR or low anterior resection(LAR)to identify the various preoperative,operative,and post operative factors that might have influence on anastomotic leaks and strictures.RESULTS:There were 68 males and 40 females with an average of 47 years(range 21-75 years).The median distance of the tumor from the anal verge was 8 cm(range 3-15 cm).Sixty(55.6%)patients underwent handsewn anastomosis and 48(44.4%)were stapled.The median operating time was 3.5 h(range2.0-7.5 h).Sixteen(14.6%)patients had an anastomotic leak.Among these,11 patients required reexploration and five were managed expectantly.The anastomotic leak rate was similar in patients with and without diverting stoma(8/60,13.4%with stoma and 8/48;16.7%without stoma).In 15(13.9%)patients,resection margins were positive for malignancy.Ninteen(17.6%)patients developed anastomotic strictures at a median duration of 8 mo(range 3-20 mo).Among these,15 patients were successfully managed with per-anal dilatation.On multivariate analysis,advance age(>60 years)was the only risk factor for anastomotic leak(P=0.004).On the other hand,anastomotic leak(P=0.00),mucin positive tumor(P =0.021),and lower rectal growth(P=0.011)were found as risk factors for the development of an anastomotic stricture.CONCLUSION:Advance age is a risk factor for an anastomotic leak.An anastomotic leak,a mucin-secreting tumor,and lower rectal growth predispose patients to develop anastomotic strictures. | Ashok Kumar Ram Daga Paari Vijayaragavan Anand Prakash Rajneesh Kumar Singh Anu Behari Vinay K Kapoor Rajan Saxena | 2011 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,11: | 28 |

| 6 | A hybrid machine learning ensemble approach based on a Radial Basis Function neural network and Rotation Forest for landslide susceptibility modeling:A case study in the Himalayan area, India显示文摘In this paper, a hybrid machine learning ensemble approach namely the Rotation Forest based Radial Basis Function(RFRBF) neural network is proposed for spatial prediction of landslides in part of the Himalayan area(India). The proposed approach is an integration of the Radial Basis Function(RBF) neural network classifier and Rotation Forest ensemble, which are state-of-the art machine learning algorithms for classification problems. For this purpose, a spatial database of the study area was established that consists of 930 landslide locations and fifteen influencing parameters(slope angle, road density, curvature, land use, distance to road, plan curvature, lineament density, distance to lineaments, rainfall,distance to river, profile curvature, elevation, slope aspect, river density, and soil type). Using the database, training and validation datasets were generated for constructing and validating the model. Performance of the model was assessed using the Receiver Operating Characteristic(ROC) curve, area under the ROC curve(AUC), statistical analysis methods, and the Chi square test. In addition, Logistic Regression(LR), Multi-layer Perceptron Neural Networks(MLP Neural Nets), Na(?)ve Bayes(NB), and the hybrid model of Rotation Forest and Decision Trees(RFDT) were selected for comparison. | 7 | Targeted therapy of gastrointestinal stromal tumours显示文摘Gastrointestinal stromal tumours(GISTs) are mesen-chymal neoplasms originating in the gastrointestinal tract, usually in the stomach or the small intestine, and rarely elsewhere in the abdomen. The malignant potential of GISTs is variable ranging from small lesions with a benign behaviour to fatal sarcomas. The majo-rity of the tumours stain positively for the CD-117(KIT) and discovered on GIST-1(DOG-1 or anoctamin 1) expression, and they are characterized by the presence of a driver kinase-activating mutation in either KIT or platelet-derived growth factor receptor α. Although surgery is the primary modality of treatment, almost half of the patients have disease recurrence following surgery, which highlights the need for an effective adjuvant therapy. Traditionally, GISTs are considered chemotherapy and radiotherapy resistant. With the advent of targeted therapy(tyrosine kinase inhibitors), there has been a paradigm shift in the management of GISTs in the last decade. | 8 | Biliary strictures complicating living donor liver transplantation:Problems,novel insights and solutions显示文摘Biliary stricture complicating living donor liver transplantation(LDLT) is a relatively common complication, occurring in most transplant centres across the world. Cases of biliary strictures are more common in LDLT than in deceased donor liver transplantation. Endoscopic management is the mainstay for biliary strictures complicating LDLT and includes endoscopic retrograde cholangiography, sphincterotomy and stent placement(with or without balloon dilatation). The efficacy and safety profiles as well as outcomes of endoscopic management of biliary strictures complicating LDLT is an area that needs to be viewed in isolation, owing to its unique set of problems and attending complications; as such, it merits a tailored approach, which is yet to be well established. The diagnostic criteria applied to these strictures are not uniform and are over-reliant on imaging studies showing an anastomotic narrowing. It has to be kept in mind that in the setting of LDLT, a subjective anastomotic narrowing is present in most cases due to a mismatch in ductal diameters. However, whether this narrowing results in a functionally significant narrowing is a question that needs further study. In addition, wide variation in the endotherapy protocols practised in most centres makes it difficult to interpret the results and hampers our understanding of this topic. The outcome definition for endotherapy is also heterogenous and needs to be standardised to allow for comparison of data in this regard and establish a clinical practice guideline. There have been multiple studies in this area in the last 2 years, with novel findings that have provided solutions to some of these issues. This review endeavours to incorporate these new findings into the wider understanding of endotherapy for biliary strictures complicating LDLT, with specific emphasis on diagnosis of strictures in the LDLT setting, endotherapy protocols and outcome definitions. | 9 | Arsenic contamination of groundwater:A global synopsis with focus on the Indian Peninsula显示文摘More than 2.5 billion people on the globe rely on groundwater for drinking and providing high-quality drinking water has become one of the major challenges of human society.Although groundwater is considered as safe,high concentrations of heavy metals like arsenic(As)can pose potential human health concerns and hazards.In this paper,we present an overview of the current scenario of arsenic contamination of groundwater in various countries across the globe with an emphasis on the Indian Peninsula.With several newly affected regions reported during the last decade,a significant increase has been observed in the global scenario of arsenic contamination.It is estimated that nearly 108 countries are affected by arsenic contamination in groundwater with concentration beyond maximum permissible limit of 10 ppb recommended by the World Health Organization.The highest among these are from Asia(32)and Europe(31),followed by regions like Africa(20),North America(11),South America(9)and Australia(4).More than 230 million people worldwide,which include 180 million from Asia,are at risk of arsenic poisoning.Southeast Asian countries,Bangladesh,India,Pakistan,China,Nepal,Vietnam,Burma,Thailand and Cambodia,are the most affected.In India,20 states and 4 Union Territories have so far been affected by arsenic contamination in groundwater.An attempt to evaluate the correlation between arsenic poisoning and aquifer type shows that the groundwater extracted from unconsolidated sedimentary aquifers,particularly those which are located within the younger orogenic belts of the world,are the worst affected.More than 90%of arsenic pollution is inferred to be geogenic.We infer that alluvial sediments are the major source for arsenic contamination in groundwater and we postulate a strong relation with plate tectonic processes,mountain building,erosion and sedimentation.Prolonged consumption of arsenic-contaminated groundwater results in severe health issues like skin,lung,kidney and bladder cancer;coronary heart disease;bronchiectasis;hyperkeratosis and arsenicosis.Since the major source of arsenic in groundwater is of geogenic origin,the extend of pollution is complexly linked with aquifer geometry and aquifer properties of a region.Therefore,remedial measures are to be designed based on the source mineral,climatological and hydrogeological scenario of the affected region.The corrective measures available include removing arsenic from groundwater using filters,exploring deeper or alternative aquifers,treatment of the aquifer itself,dilution method by artificial recharge to groundwater,conjunctive use,and installation of nano-filter,among other procedures.The vast majority of people affected by arsenic contamination in the Asian countries are the poor who live in rural areas and are not aware of the arsenic poisoning and treatment protocols.Therefore,creating awareness and providing proper medical care to these people remain as a great challenge.Very few policy actions have been taken at international level over the past decade to reduce arsenic contamination in drinking water,with the goal of preventing toxic impacts on human health.We recommend that that United Nations Environment Programme(UNEP)and WHO should take stock of the global arsenic poisoning situation and launch a global drive to create awareness among people/medical professionals/health workers/administrators on this global concern. | E.Shaji M.Santosh K.V.Sarath Pranav Prakash V.Deepchand B.V.Divya | 2021 | Geoscience Frontiers2021,12,3: | 14 |

| 11 | Severe scrub typhus infection: Clinical features, diagnostic challenges and management显示文摘Scrub typhus infection is an important cause of acute undifferentiated fever in South East Asia. The clinical picture is characterized by sudden onset fever with chills and non-specific symptoms that include headache, myalgia, sweating and vomiting. The presence of an eschar, in about half the patients with proven scrub typhus infection and usually seen in the axilla, groin or inguinal region, is characteristic of scrub typhus. Common laboratory findings are elevated liver transaminases, thrombocytopenia and leukocytosis. About a third of patients admitted to hospital with scrub typhus infection have evidence of organ dysfunction that may include respiratory failure, circulatory shock, mild renal or hepatic dysfunction, central nervous system involvement or hematological abnormalities. Since the symptoms and signs are non-specific and resemble other tropical infections like malaria, enteric fever, dengue or leptospirosis, appropriate laboratory tests are necessary to confirm diagnosis. Serological assays are the mainstay of diagnosis as they are easy to perform; the reference test is the indirect immunofluorescence assay(IFA) for the detection of Ig M antibodies. However in clinical practice, the enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay is done due to the ease of performing this test and a good sensitivity and sensitivity when compared with the IFA. Paired samples, obtained at least two weeks apart, demonstrating a ≥ 4 fold rise in titre, is necessary for confirmation of serologic diagnosis. The mainstay of treatment is the tetracycline group of antibiotics or chloramphenicol although macrolides are used alternatively. In mild cases, recovery is complete. A complex combination of host genetics,environmental agents,and bacterial virulence factors are considered to determine the susceptibility as well as the severity of outcome in a subset of individuals. GC is one of the most common cancers and considered as the third most common cause of cancer related death worldwide. Many studies had proved H. pylori as an important risk factor in the development of non-cardia GC. Although both H. pylori infection and GC are showing decreasing trends in the developed world,they still remain a major threat to human population in the developing countries. | 18 | Proximate Composition,Mineral Content and Fatty Acids Analyses of Aromatic and Non-Aromatic Indian Rice显示文摘Awareness on nutritive value and health benefits of rice is of vital importance in order to increase the consumption of rice in daily diet of the human beings. In this study, a total of six aromatic and two non-aromatic rice accessions grown in India were analysed for their nutritional quality attributes including proximate composition, mineral contents and fatty acids. Data with three replications were used to measure Pearson's simple correlation co-efficient in order to establish the relationship among various nutritional quality attributes. The result on proximate composition showed that Govind Bhog had the highest moisture(13.57%) and fat(0.92%) content, which signifies its tasty attribute. Badshah Bhog exhibited the highest fibre content(0.85%), carbohydrate content(82.70%) and food energy(365.23 k Cal per 100 g). Among the minerals, the higher Ca(98.75 mg/kg), Zn(17.00 mg/kg) and Fe(31.50 mg/kg) were in Gopal Bhog, whereas the highest Na(68.85 mg/kg) was in Badshah Bhog, the highest K(500.00 mg/kg) was in Swetganga, Khushboo and Sarbati. The highest contents of unsaturated fatty acids viz. oleic acid(49.14%), linoleic acid(46.99%) and linolenic acid(1.27%) were found in Sarbati, whereas the highest content of saturated fatty acids viz. myristic acid(4.60%) and palmitic acid(31.91%) were found in Govind Bhog and stearic acid(6.47%) in Todal. The identified aromatic rice accessions Gopal Bhog, Govind Bhog and Badshah Bhog and non-aromatic rice accession Sarbati were found nutritionally superior among all eight tested accessions. | 20 | Remediation of nutrient-rich waters using the terrestrial plant, Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb.显示文摘Effective control of eutrophication is generally established through the reduction of nutrient loading into waterways and water bodies. An economically viable and ecologically sustainable approach to nutrient pollution control could involve the integration of retention ponds, wetlands and greenways into water management systems. Plants not only play an invaluable role in the assimilation and removal of nutrients, but they also support fauna richness and can be aesthetically pleasing. Pandanus amaryllifolius, a tropical terrestrial plant, was found to establish well in hydrophytic conditions and was highly effective in remediating high nutrient levels in an aquatic environment showing 100% removal of NO-3-N up to 200 mg/L in 14 days. Phosphate uptake by the plant was less efficient with 64% of the PO-4-P removed at the maximum concentration of 100 mg/L at the end of 6 weeks. With its high NO-3-N and PO3-4-P removal efficiency, P. amaryllifolius depleted the nutrient-rich media and markedly contained the natural colonization of algae. The impediment of algal growth led to improvements in the water quality with significant decreases in turbidity, pH and electrical conductivity. In addition, the plants did not show stress symptoms when grown in high nutrient levels as shown by the changes in their biomass, total soluble proteins and chlorophyll accumulation as well as photochemical efficiency.
