1Risk of colorectal neoplasm in patients with acromegaly: A meta-analysis显示文摘AIM: To examine the risk of colorectal neoplasm in acromegalic patients by meta-analyzing all relevant controlled studies. METHODS: Extensive English language medical literature searches for human studies, up to December 2007, were performed using suitable keywords. Pooled estimates [odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI)] were obtained using either the fixed or random-effects model as appropriate. Heterogeneity between studies was evaluated with the Cochran Q test whereas the likelihood of publication bias was assessed by constructing funnel plots. Their symmetry was estimated by the adjusted rank correlation test. RESULTS: For hyperplastic polyps the pooled ORs with 95% CI were 3.557 (2.587-4.891) by fixed effects model and 3.703 (2.565-5.347) by random effects model. The Z test values for overall effect were 7.81 and 6.984, respectively (P < 0.0001). For colon adenomas the pooled ORs with 95% CI were 2.486 (1.908-3.238) (fixed effects model) and 2.537 (1.914-3.364) (random effects model). The Z test values were 6.747 and 6.472, respectively (P < 0.0001). For colon cancer the pooled OR with 95% CI was identical for both fixed and random effects model (OR, 4.351; 95% CI, 1.533-12.354; Z = 2.762, P = 0.006]. There was no significant heterogeneity and no publication bias in all the above meta-analyses. 2Photocatalytic oxidation of gaseous benzene,toluene and xylene under UV and visible irradiation over Mn-doped TiO_(2)nanoparticles显示文摘The photocatalytic oxidation of gaseous benzene,toluene and xylene(BTX)over un-doped,0.1 and 1 wt%Mn-TiO_(2)nanoparticles under ultraviolet and visible irradiation was studied in atmosphere of synthetic air or inert gas.The photocatalytic decomposition efficiency and the oxidation products were determined using a Static Photochemical Reactor coupled with FTIR spectroscopy.BTX underwent efficient decomposition over Mn-TiO_(2)photocatalysts under UV irradiation,more with oxygen presence and less without oxygen.More important toluene and xylene went substantial decomposition over 0.1 mol%Mn-TiO_(2)under visible irradiation with oxygen presence.The main final oxidation products in the UV photocatalysis of BTX were CO_(2),CO and H2O,with CO_(2) and CO yields 4 and 2 respectively.The conversion percentage of benzene,toluene,and xylene to CO_(2) were 63.6%,56.4%,51.8%,and to CO 29%,26.5%,23.2%,respectively.In the visible photocatalysis of toluene and xylene the yields of CO were insignificant.Formation of carbon containing deposits on TiO_(2)surfaces was observed after extensive UV photocatalysis of toluene and xylene,and such by-products surface coverage may reduce the photocatalytic activity of TiO_(2)samples.Some aspects of the photocatalytic mechanism were examined.Vassilios Binas Vassilis Stefanopoulos George Kiriakidis Panos Papagiannakopoulos 2019Journal of Materiomics2019,5,1:5

4Asymptotic stability and disturbance attenuation properties for a class of networked control systems显示文摘In this paper, stability and disturbance attenuation issues for a class of Networked Control Systems (NCSs) under uncertain access delay and packet dropout effects are considered. Our aim is to find conditions on the delay and packet dropout rate, under which the system stability and H∞ disturbance attenuation properties are preserved to a desired level. The basic idea in this paper is to formulate such Networked Control System as a discrete-time switched system. Then the NCSs’ stability and performance problems can be reduced to the corresponding problems for switched systems, which have been studied for decades and for which a number of results are available in the literature. 6A classification of water erosion models according to their geospatial characteristics显示文摘In this article,an extensive inventory in the literature of water erosion modelling from a geospatial point of view is conducted.Concepts of scale,spatiality and complexity are explored and clarified in a theoretical background.Use of Geographic Information Systems(GIS)is pointed out as facilitating data mixing and model rescaling and thus increasing complexity in data-method relations.Spatial scale,temporal scale and spatial methodologies are addressed as the most determining geospatial properties underlying water erosion modelling.Setting these properties as classification criteria,82 water erosion models are identified and classified into eight categories.As a result,a complete overview of water erosion models becomes available in a single table.The biggest share of the models is found in the category of the mechanistic pathway-type event-based models for watershed to landscape scales.In parallel,geospatial innovations that could be considered as milestones in water erosion modelling are highlighted and discussed.An alphabetical list of all models is also listed in the Appendix.For manipulating scale efficiently,two promising spatial theories are suggested for further exploitation in the future such as hierarchy theory and fractals theory.Regarding erosion applications,uncertainty analysis within GIS is considered to be necessary for further improving performance of erosion models.Christos G.Karydas Panos Panagos Ioannis Z.Gitas 2014International Journal of Digital Earth2014,7,3:3

8Imaging of filtering blebs after implantation of the Ex-PRESS shunt with the use of the Visante optical coherence tomography显示文摘AIM: To analyze the features of the filtering blebs following implantation of the Ex-PRESS glaucoma device(model P-50) with the aid of the Visante anterior segment optical coherence tomography(AS-OCT)METHODS: Five patients with open angle glaucomas were included in the study. They all underwent implantation of the Ex-PRESS device under a scleral flap. The surgical procedure was augmented with the use of mitomycin C subconjunctivally. The filtering blebs were analyzed with the Visante AS-OCT with the scans taken along the axis of the implantation of the glaucoma device.RESULTS: All filtering blebs were graded as diffuse functioning. The morphological characteristics of the blebs were similar to those of the trabeculectomy.However the use of the Ex-PRESS implant tend to form a characteristic episcleral lake at the site of the plate of the implant. 9Microstructural evolution of a heat-treated H23 tool steel显示文摘The microstructure and the stability of carbides after heat treatments in an H23 tool steel were investigated. The heat treatments consisted of austenization at two different austenizing temperatures(1100°C and 1250°C), followed by water quenching and double-aging at 650°C, 750°C, and 800°C with air cooling between the first and second aging treatments. Martensite did not form in the as-quenched microstructures, which consisted of a ferrite matrix, M6 C, M7C3, and MC carbides. The double-aged microstructures consisted of a ferrite matrix and MC, M6 C, M7C3, and M23C6 carbides. Secondary hardening as a consequence of secondary precipitation of fine M2 C carbides did not occur. There was disagreement between the experimental microstructure and the results of thermodynamic calculations. 11Pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema: Is the emphysema type associated with the pattern of fibrosis?显示文摘AIM: To investigate whether the predominant emphysema type is associated with the high resolution computed tomography(HRCT) pattern of fibrosis in combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema(CPFE).METHODS: Fifty-three smokers with upper lobe emphysema and lower lobe pulmonary fibrosis on- HRCT-were retrospectively evaluated. Patients were stratified into 3 groups according to the predominant type of emphysema: Centrilobular(CLE), paraseptal(PSE), CLE = PSE. Patients were also stratified into 3 other groups according to the predominant type of fibrosis on HRCT: Typical usual interstitial pneumonia(UIP), probable UIP and nonspecific interstitial pneumonia(NSIP). HRCTs were scored at 5 predetermined levels for the coarseness of fibrosis(Coarseness), extent of emphysema(emphysema), extent of interstitial lung disease(Tot Ext ILD), extent of reticular pattern not otherwise specified(Ret NOS), extent of ground glass opacity with traction bronchiectasis(extG GOBx), extent of pure ground glass opacity and extent of honeycombing. HRCT mean scores, pulmonary function tests, diffusion capacity(DLCO) and systolic pulmonary arterial pressure were compared among the groups.RESULTS: The predominant type of emphysema was strongly correlated with the predominant type of fibrosis. The centrilobular emphysema group exhibited a significantly higher extent of emphysema(P < 0.001) and a lower extent of interstitial lung disease(P < 0.002), reticular pattern not otherwise specified(P < 0.023), extent of ground glass opacity with traction bronchiectasis(P < 0.002), extent of honeycombing(P < 0.001) and coarseness of fibrosis(P < 0.001) than the paraseptal group. The NSIP group exhibited a significantly higher extent of emphysema(P < 0.05), total lung capacity(P < 0.01) and diffusion capacity(DLCO)(P < 0.05) than the typical UIP group. The typical UIP group exhibited a significantly higher extent of interstitial lung disease, extent of reticular pattern not otherwise specified, extent of ground glass opacity with traction bronchiectasis, extent of honeycombing and coarseness of fibrosis(0.039 > P > 0.000). 14Risk assessment:method and case study for traffic projects显示文摘A comprehensive project evaluation and decision-making method considering multiple objectives,stakeholders,and attributes of proposed traffic treatments is inherently complicated.Although individual techniques in evaluating operations,safety,economic,and stakeholder objectives are available,a practical method that integrates all these risk factors and their uncertainties into a multiattribute decision-making tool is absent.A three-level project decision-making process was developed to model and assess multiple-attribute risk in a proposed traffic treatment from the perspective of multiple stakeholders.The direct benefits from reducing delay and safety risk(basic objectives of traffic treatments) are computed in Level 1 with established methods.Feasibility and performance analysis in Level 2 examine site-specific constraints and conduct detailed performance analysis using advanced analysis tools.In Level 3,this paper introduces an innovative and integrated multiple attributes evaluation process under fuzziness and uncertainty(MAFU) process for evaluation and decision-making.The MAFU is a comprehensive and systematic assessment and decision-making procedure that can assess the magnitudes of project performance and to integrate conflicting interests and tradeoffs among stakeholders.A case study illustrates theapplication of MAFU for the selection of a traffic alternative involving several evaluation attributes and stakeholders.Results show that the MAFU produced the smallest variance for each alternative.With traditional cost–benefit evaluation methods,the uncertainty associated with performance of a traffic project in terms of operation,safety,environmental impacts,etc.,is unrestricted and cumulative.Therefore,a reliable multi-attribute evaluation of complex traffic projects should not be made with conventional cost–benefit analysis alone but with a process like MAFU.Xin Yu Panos D.Prevedouros 2017Journal of Modern Transportation2017,25,4:2
15Four-Beam Model for Vibration Analysis of a Cantilever Beam with an Embedded Horizontal Crack显示文摘As one of the main failure modes, embedded cracks occur in beam structures due to periodic loads. Hence it is useful to investigate the dynamic characteristics of a beam structure with an embedded crack for early crack detection and diagnosis. A new four-beam model with local flexibilities at crack tips is developed to investigate the transverse vibration of a cantilever beam with an embedded horizontal crack; two separate beam segments are used to model the crack region to allow opening of crack surfaces. Each beam segment is considered as an Euler-Bernoulli beam. The governing equations and the matching and boundary conditions of the four-beam model are derived using Hamilton's principle. The natural frequencies and mode shapes of the four-beam model are calculated using the transfer matrix method. The effects of the crack length, depth, and location on the first three natural frequencies and mode shapes of the cracked cantilever beam are investigated. A continuous wavelet transform method is used to analyze the mode shapes of the cracked cantilever beam. It is shown that sudden changes in spatial variations of the wavelet coefficients of the mode shapes can be used to identify the length and location of an embedded horizontal crack. The first three natural frequencies and mode shapes of a cantilever beam with an embedded crack from the finite element method and an experimental investigation are used to validate the proposed model. 16Biochar and sugar cane filter cake interaction on physical and hydrological soil properties under tropical field conditions显示文摘Biochar is known for its effects on carbon sequestration and soil fertility.However,there is a lack of information about its effects on soil physical and hydraulic properties for tropical soils.We assessed the effects of biochar(BC)plus sugar cane filter cake(FC)rate,and time of interaction on soil physical and hydraulic properties under humid tropical conditions.For this purpose,a field experiment was installed at a loamy sandy soil with five treatments and four replicates:control(only soil),25 Mg ha^(−1) sugar cane filter cake,and 25 Mg ha^(−1) sugar cane filter cake plus 6.25,12.5,and 25 Mg ha^(−1) Miscanthus biochar,respectively,two soil depths(0-10 and 10-20 cm)and two times of interaction(9 and 18 months).Physical prop-erties(aggregate stability,bulk density,total porosity,pores size distribution)and hydraulic properties(soil water holding capacity,hydraulic conductivity,plant-available water holding capacity)were measured after nine and eighteen months.The bulk density decreased slightly,and the porosity increased after nine months,for the biochar plus sugar cane filter cake(both 25 Mg ha^(−1)).After 18 months,biochar plus filter cake interaction increase micropores,aggregate stability,and plant-available water content.Saturated hydraulic conductivity was not influenced by sugar cane filter cake.However,biochar significantly reduced saturated hydraulic conductivity when combined with sugar cane filter cake after 18 months.We concluded that sugar cane filter cake in combination with biochar modified the pore size distribution,slightly increased plant-available water holding capacity,and significantly decreased saturated hydraulic conductivity.Sara de Jesus Duarte Bruno Glaser Blanca Lucia Prado Pano Carlos Eduardo Pellegrino Cerri 2020Biochar2020,2,2:2
