8Hydrogeochemical evaluation and statistical analysis of groundwater of Sylhet, north-eastern Bangladesh显示文摘To investigate the hydrogeochemical characteristics of groundwater 23 shallow, 30 intermediate and 38 deep wells samples were collected from Sylhet district of Bangladesh, and analyzed for temperature, pH, Eh, EC,DO, DOC, Na^+, K^+, Ca^(2+), Mg^(2+), Cl^-, SO_4^(2-), NO_3^-,HCO_3^-, SiO_2^-, Fe, Mn and As. Besides, 12 surface water samples from Surma and Kushiyara Rivers were also collected and analyzed to understand the influence into aquifers. Results revealed that, most of the groundwater samples are acidic in nature, and Na–HCO_3 is the dominant groundwater type. The mean value of temperature, EC,Na^+, K^+, Ca^(2+), Mg^(2+), Cl^-, NO_3^- and SO_4^(2-) were found within the range of permissible limits, while most of the samples exceeds the allowable limits of Fe, Mn and As concentrations. However, relatively higher concentration of Fe and Mn were found in deep water samples and reverse trend was found in case of As. The mean concentrations of As in shallow, intermediate and deep wells were 39.3, 25.3and 21.4 lg/L respectively, which varied from 0.03 to148 lg/L. From spatial distribution, it was found that Fe,Mn and As concentrations are high but patchy in northern,north-western, and south-western part of Sylhet region. The most influential geochemical process in study area were identified as silicate weathering, characterized by active cation exchange process and carbonate weathering, which thereby can enhance the elemental concentrations in groundwater. Pearson's correlation matrix, principal component analysis and cluster analysis were also employed to evaluate the controlling factors, and it was found that, both natural and anthropogenic sources were influencing the groundwater chemistry of the aquifers. However, surface water has no significant role to contaminate the aquifers,rather geogenic factors affecting the trace elemental contamination. 13Stability and infectivity of enteroviruses on dry surfaces:Potential for indirect transmission control显示文摘Hand,foot,and mouth disease(HFMD)is a contagious disease mainly occurring in young children,and outbreaks commonly occur among young children in the Asia–Pacific region including Thailand.Moreover,the World Health Organization(WHO)monitors HFMD in the Western Pacific region to detect outbreaks and other significant events by the Regional Event Based Surveillance System.HFMD is mainly caused by a group of enteroviruses(EVs)transmitted through direct contact(person to person)and indirect contact with contaminated objects(surface-to-hand).However,few studies have examined the surface stability of EVs.In this study,we investigated the stability of enterovirus A71(EV-A71)and coxsackievirus A16(CVA16)on three different dry surfaces(wood,plastic,and stainless steel)using the endpoint titration using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide(MTT)staining of viable cells and real-time polymerase chain reaction(viral genome detection).The results revealed that virus infectivity dramatically decreased within a few hours on dry surfaces.However,viral RNA could be detected on dry surfaces for up to 28 days.Concerning heat inactivation,both EV-A71 and CVA16 were inactivated after exposure to 60°C for 15 min.Information on virus stability on different dry surfaces will provide useful information for HFMD transmission control.Pichamon Sittikul Pimolpachr Sriburin Jittraporn Rattanamahaphoom Warisa Nuprasert Nipa Thammasonthijarern Janjira Thaipadungpanit Weerawan Hattasingh Nathamon Kosoltanapiwat Pilaipan Puthavathana Supawat Chatchen 2023Biosafety and Health2023,5,6:0
14The energetic relationship among geoeffective solar flares, associated CMEs and SEPs显示文摘Major solar eruptions (flares, coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and solar energetic particles (SEPs)) strongly influence geospace and space weather. Currently, the mechanism of their influence on space weather is not well understood and requires a detailed study of the energetic relationship among these eruptive phenomena. From this perspective, we investigate 30 flares (observed by RHESSI), followed by weak to strong geomagnetic storms. Spectral analysis of these flares suggests a new power-law relationship (r ~ 0.79) between the hard X-ray (HXR) spectral index (before flare-peak) and linear speed of the associated CME observed by LASCO/SOHO. For 12 flares which were followed by SEP enhancement near Earth, HXR and SEP spectral analysis reveals a new scaling law (r ~ 0.9) between the hardest X-ray flare spectrum and the hardest SEP spectrum. Furthermore, a strong correlation is obtained between the linear speed of the CME and the hardest spectrum of the corresponding SEP event (r ~ 0.96). We propose that the potentially geoeffective flare and associated CME and SEP are well-connected through a possible feedback mechanism, and should be regarded within the framework of a solar eruption. 16Plasma and wound fluid levels of eight proangiogenic proteins are elevated after colorectal resection显示文摘BACKGROUND Colorectal resection is associated with 3-5 wk long elevations in the plasma levels of at least 11 proangiogenic proteins that may stimulate tumor angiogenesis postsurgery.The increases during the first week after surgery may be related to the acute inflammatory response;the cause(s)of the week 2-5 increases is unknown.The wounds are a possible source because of the important role that angiogenesis plays in the healing process.The main hypothesis of the study is that wound fluid levels of the proteins studied will be elevated well beyond plasma levels which,in turn,are elevated from preoperative baseline levels.AIM To determine plasma and wound fluid levels of 8 proangiogenic proteins after colorectal resection for cancer and benign pathology.METHODS Blood and wound fluid samples were taken simultaneously on postoperative(postop)day 1,3,and later time points until wound drain removal in 35 colorectal cancer patients and 31 benign disease patients undergoing colorectal resection in whom closed wound drains had been placed in either the pelvis or the subcutaneous space of the abdominal incision.Postop plasma levels were compared to preop plasma and postop wound fluid levels(separate analyses for cancer and benign groups).RESULTS Sixty-six colorectal disease patients were studied(35 cancer,31 benign pathology).Most patients underwent minimally invasive surgery(open surgery in 11%of cancer and 6%of benign patients).The majority in the cancer group had rectal resections while in the benign group sigmoid or right colectomy predominated.Plasma levels of all 8 proteins were significantly elevated from baseline (P<0.05) at all post-operative time points in the cancer group and at 90% of time points(29/32) in the benign group.Wound levels of all 8 proteins were 3-106 times higher (P<0.05) than plasma levels at 87-90 percent of postop time points;of note,wound levels were more than 10 times higher at 47-50% of time points.CONCLUSION Plasma protein levels were elevated for 3 weeks after surgery;wound fluid levels were much greater than corresponding blood levels.Healing wounds may be the source of the plasma increases.HMC Shantha Kumara Xiao-Hong Yan Erica Pettke Vesna Cekic Nipa Dilip Gandhi Geoffrey A Bellini Richard L Whelan 2019World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2019,11,6:0
