Psychological interventions for adherence, metabolic control, and coping with stress in adolescents with type 1 diabetes:a systematic review显示文摘Background The aim of this review was to summarize and identify the variations in the effectiveness of psychological interventions on adherence, metabolic control, and coping with stress in adolescents with type 1 diabetes(T1D).Methods An electronic search of literature was performed using PubMed(NLM),Embase(Ovid),CINAHL Plus(EBSCO-host),PsycINFO(Ovid),and Google Scholar. The search was limited to include articles reported the effect of one of the psychological interventions:cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT),coping skills training(CST),stress management,or psychotherapy intervention. The report included peer-reviewed articles published in English from January 1990 until May 2019in adolescents with T1D,and summarizes the results of 24 studies that met the inclusion criteria. Results Psychological interventions showed differential effects on adherence, metabolic control, and coping with stress in adolescents with T1D.Behavioral interventions using principles of CBT appear to have a superior positive effect on regimen adherence compared with other types of psychological protocols. In contrast, metabolic control was significantly improved with the implementation of CST and some forms of CBT.Stress management and psychotherapy interventions showed significant promises for adolescents to cope with their diabetes-related daily stressors. Conclusions However, the findings may add some promises to diabetes management in adolescents, additional research to understand the effect of these interventions is needed. | Yousef M.Aljawarneh Nesreen M.Al-Qaissi Hana Y.Ghunaim | 2020 | World Journal of Pediatrics2020,16,5: | 4
Model-based adaptive controller for personalized ventilation and thermal comfort in naturally ventilated spaces显示文摘This work develops a standalone autonomously controlled personalized ventilation(PV)unit in a naturally ventilated(NV)office space to maintain acceptable thermal comfort{TQ under steady and transient indoor conditions and activity levels. The NV-PV proportional integral derivative(PID)controller adjusts the PV supply temperature(7spv)at the occupant set flow rate(Qspv)based on predicted TC using a regression model. The target TC level that the controller attains at all times is between 0(neutral)and 1(slightly comfortable).Process transfer functions were developed and then used to find the adaptive PID tuning coefficients using the Internal Model Control(IMC)method. The controller was tested in a case study at indoor temperature range of 25 to 33℃ with relative humidity range of 55%and 80%.It was shown that the NV-PV controller adjusted Tspv to maintain acceptable TC under transients of indoor conditions and metabolic rates. | Dalia Ghaddar Mariam Itani Nesreen Ghaddar Kamel Ghali Joseph Zeaiter | 2021 | Building Simulation2021,14,6: | 1

Fallopian tube:Its role in infertility and gynecological oncology显示文摘Disorders of the fallopian tube play a very important role in both infertility and gynaecological oncology. Tubal factor infertility is considered among the leading causes of female factor infertility. Many tubal disorders are related to infertility including congenital anomalies, acute and chronic inflammatory diseases, endometriosis and other pathologies that result in partial or total fallopian tube obstruction. In the field of gynaecological oncology, ovarian surface epithelial tumors remain one of the most fatal malignancies in women worldwide carrying the worst prognosis among female genital malignancies. For decades, the cell of origin of epithelial tumors has remained controversial and was largely believed to be surface ovarian epithelium. Recently several studies suggested that there is a major role of the fallopian tube in the development of ovarian surface epithelial tumors, mainly high grade serous carcinoma and other tumour types. In this article we review the role of the fallopian tube in both infertility and gynaecological oncology. | Nesreen Magdy Mona El-Bahrawy | 2014 | World Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology2014,3,2: | 1

Promotive action of 2-acetylaminofluorene on hepatic precancerous lesions initiated by diethylnitrosamine in rats:Molecular study显示文摘BACKGROUND Diethylnitrosamine(DEN)induces hepatic neoplastic lesions over a prolonged period.AIM To investigate the promotive action of 2-acetylaminofluorene(2-AAF)when combined with DEN in order to develop a rat model for induction of precancerous lesion and investigate the molecular mechanism underlying the activity of 2-AAF.METHODS The pre-precancerous lesions were initiated by intraperitoneal injection of DEN for three weeks consecutively, followed by one intraperitoneal injection of 2-AAF at three different doses(100,200 and 300 mg/kg).Rats were separated into naïve,DEN,DEN+100 mg 2-AAF,DEN+200 mg 2-AAF,and DEN+300 mg 2-AAF groups.Rats were sacrificed after 10 wk and 16 wk.Liver functions, level of alpha-fetoprotein,glutathione S-transferase-P and proliferating cell nuclear antigen staining of liver tissues were performed. The mRNA level of RAB11A,BAX,p53,and Cyclin E and epigenetic regulation by long-noncoding RNA(lncRNA)RP11-513I15.6,miR-1262(microRNA),and miR-1298 were assessed in the sera and liver tissues of the rats.RESULTS 2-AAF administration significantly increased the percent area of the precancerous foci and cell proliferation along with a significant decrease in RAB11A,BAX,and p53 mRNA,and the increase in Cyclin E mRNA was associated with a marked decrease in lncRNA RP11-513I15.6 expression with a significant increase in both miR-1262 and miR-1298.CONCLUSION 2-AFF promoted hepatic precancerous lesions initiated through DEN by decreasing autophagy, apoptosis, and tumor suppression genes, along with increased cell proliferation,in a time-and dose-dependent manner. These actions were mediated under the epigenetic regulation of lncRNA RP11-513I15.6/miR-1262/miR-1298. | Amany Helmy Hasanin Eman K Habib Nesreen El Gayar Marwa Matboli | 2021 | World Journal of Hepatology2021,13,3: | 0
Mesenchymal stem cells and COVID-19: What they do and what they can do显示文摘The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) orcoronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has exhausted the health systemsin many countries with thousands cases diagnosed daily. The currently usedtreatment guideline is to manage the common symptoms like fever and cough, but doesn’t target the virus itself or halts serious complications arising from thisviral infection. Currently, SARS-CoV-2 exhibits many genetic modulations whichhave been associated with the appearance of highly contagious strains. Thenumber of critical cases of COVID-19 increases markedly, and many of theinfected people die as a result of respiratory failure and multiple organ dysfunction. The regenerative potential of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) has beenextensively studied and confirmed. The impressive immunomodulation and antiinflammatoryactivity of MSCs have been recognized as a golden opportunity forthe treatment of COVID-19 and its associated complications. Moreover, MSCsregenerative and repairing abilities have been corroborated by many studies withpositive outcomes and high recovery rates. Based on that, MSCs infusion could bean effective mechanism in managing and stemming the serious complications andmultiple organ failure associated with COVID-19. In the present review, wediscuss the commonly reported complications of COVID-19 viral infection and theestablished and anticipated role of MSCs in managing these complications. | Ejlal Abu-El-Rub Ramada R Khasawneh Fatimah Almahasneh Zaid Altaany Nesreen Bataineh Hana Zegallai Saravanan Sekaran | 2021 | World Journal of Stem Cells2021,13,9: | 0
Brain metabolic profile assessed by magnetic resonance spectroscopy in children with Down syndrome:Relation to intelligence quotient显示文摘BACKGROUND Down syndrome(DS)is one of the most common causes of intellectual disability.Children with DS have varying intelligence quotient(IQ)that can predict their learning abilities.AIM To assess the brain metabolic profiles of children with DS and compare them to standard controls, using magnetic resonance spectroscopy(MRS)and correlating the results with IQ.METHODS This case-control study included 40 children with DS aged 6-15 years and 40 age and sex-matched healthy children as controls.MRS was used to evaluate ratios of choline/creatine(Cho/Cr),N-acetyl aspartic acid/creatine(NAA/Cr),and myoinositol/creatine(MI/Cr(in the frontal, temporal, and occipital lobes and basal ganglia and compared to controls and correlated with IQ.RESULTS Children with DS showed significant reductions in NAA/Cr and MI/Cr and a non-significant reduction in Cho/Cr in frontal lobes compared to controls.Additionally,we observed significant decreases in NAA/Cr,MI/Cr,and Cho/Cr in the temporal and occipital lobes and basal ganglia in children with DS compared to controls.Furthermore, there was a significant correlation between IQ and metabolic ratios in the brains of children with DS.CONCLUSION Brain metabolic profile could be a good predictor of IQ in children with DS. | Nesreen Safwat El Feil Heba S Elmahdy Rasha Ahmed Elmahdy Ahmed Abd-Elbasset Aboelezz Heba S Dawoud Mohammed Al-Beltagi | 2023 | World Journal of Clinical Pediatrics2023,12,5: | 0
Bio-Inspired Numerical Analysis of COVID-19 with Fuzzy Parameters显示文摘Fuzziness or uncertainties arise due to insufficient knowledge, experimental errors, operating conditions and parameters that provide inaccurate information. The concepts of susceptible, infectious and recovered are uncertain due to the different degrees in susceptibility, infectivity and recovery among the individuals of the population. The differences can arise, when the population groups under the consideration having distinct habits, customs and different age groups have different degrees of resistance, etc.More realistic models are needed which consider these different degrees of susceptibility infectivity and recovery of the individuals. In this paper,a Susceptible,Infected and Recovered(SIR)epidemic model with fuzzy parameters is discussed. The infection, recovery and death rates due to the disease are considered as fuzzy numbers.Fuzzy basic reproduction number and fuzzy equilibrium points have been derived for the studied model.Themodel is then solved numerically with three different techniques, forward Euler,Runge-Kutta fourth order method(RK-4)and the nonstandard finite difference(NSFD)methods respectively. The NSFD technique becomes more efficient and reliable among the others and preserves all the essential features of a continuous dynamical system. | F.M.Allehiany Fazal Dayan F.F.Al-Harbi Nesreen Althobaiti Nauman Ahmed Muhammad Rafiq Ali Raza Mawahib Elamin | 2022 | Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,8: | 0
Pathways to Psychiatry Care among Children with Mental Health Problems显示文摘Many children with mental health problems in Egypt,as in many other countries,do not receive the help they need.Investigating the pathways of care is crucial for the early detection and treatment of these children. This study examined referral patterns and the duration of untreated psychiatric illness of 350 children attending two urban clinical settings in Egypt.Diagnoses were made using the Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorder and Schizophrenia for School-aged children present and lifetime(K-SADS-PL),Child behavior checklist(CBCL,)and the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale. For 46.3%,the most distressing symptom was behavioral problems.A delay in seeking psychiatric help was found.positive family history, and lower socioeconomic class were asso-ciated with delays in psychiatric consultation. For 39.7%of patients, thefirst contact was with a psychiatrist. Most children were referred by relatives.Awareness programs are needed to increase knowledge about and to decrease the duration of untreated illness. | Hisham A.Ramy Soheir H.Elghonemy Nesreen M.Mohsen Safi M.Nagib Mohamed Y.Mohamed | 2022 | International Journal of Mental Health Promotion2022,24,4: | 0
