| 4 | Development of a procedure for estimating the parameters of mechanistic VOC emission source models from chamber testing data显示文摘In order to evaluate the impacts of volatile organic compounds(VOCs)emissions from building materials on the indoor air quality beyond the standard chamber test conditions and test period,mechanistic emission source models have been developed in the past.However,very limited data are available for the required model parameters including the initial concentration(C_(m0)),in-material diffusion coefficient(D_(m)),partition coefficient(Kma),and convective mass transfer coefficient(k_(m)).In this study,a procedure was developed for estimating the model parameters by using VOC emission data from standard small chamber tests.In the procedure,initial values of the model parameters were refined by multivariate regression analysis of the measured emission data.To verify the procedure and estimate its uncertainty,simulated chamber test data were generated by adding 10% experimental uncertainties on the theoretical curve from the analytical solution to a mechanistic emission model.Then the procedure was applied to the generated data to estimate the model parameters.Results indicated that estimates converged to the original parameter values used for the data generation and the error of estimated parameters D_(m1)C_(m0) and K_(ma) were within±10%,±23%,and±25%of the true values,respectively.The procedure was further demonstrated by applying it to estimate the model parameters from real chamber test data.Wide application of the procedure would result in a database of mechanistic source model parameters for assessing the impact of VOC emissions on indoor pollution load,which are essential input data for evaluating the effectiveness of various indoor air quality(IAQ)design and control strategies as well as the energy required for meeting given IAQ requirements. | Zhenlei Liu Andreas Nicolai Marc Abadie Menghao Qin John Grunewald Jianshun Zhang | 2021 | Building Simulation2021,14,2: | 4 |

| 10 | Clinical outcome after orbital floor fracture reduction with special regard to patient's satisfaction显示文摘Purpose: Primary reconstruction via transconjunctival approach is a standardized treatment option for orbital floor fractures. The aim of this study was to compare the findings of specific ophthalmologic assessment with the patient's complaints after fracture reduction. Methods: A retrospective medical chart analysis was performed on patients who had undergone transconjunctival orbital floor fracture reduction for fracture therapy with resorbable foil (ethisorb sheet or polydioxanone foil). A follow-up assessment including ophthalmological evaluation regarding visual acuity (eye chart projector), binocular visual field screening (Bagolini striated glasses test) and diplopia (cover test, Hess screen test) was conducted. Additionally, a questionnaire was performed to assess patients' satisfaction. Results: A total of 53 patients with a mean follow-up of 23 months (ranging from 11 to 72) after surgical therapy were included. Diplopia was present preoperatively in 23 (43.4%) and reduced in follow-up examination (n = 12, 22.6%). Limitations in ocular motility reduced from 37.7% to 7.5%. The questionnaire about the patient's satisfaction revealed excellent outcomes in relation to the functional and esthetical parameters. Conclusion: Transconjunctival approach is a safe approach for orbital fracture therapy. However, this technique involves the chemical modification of viral proteins that affects viral biological properties. Here we describe an alternative approach of influenza virus labeling that utilizes Function-Spacer-Lipid(FSL) constructs that can be gently inserted into the virus membrane. We assessed whether labeling with fluorescent(fluo-Ad-DOPE) or biotin-labeled(biot-CMG2-DOPE) probes has any deleterious effect on influenza virus hemagglutinin(HA) receptor specificity, neuraminidase(NA) activity, or replicative ability in vitro. Our data clearly show that neither construct significantly affected influenza virus infectivity or viral affinity to sialyl receptors. Neither construct influenced the NA activities of the influenza viruses tested, except the A/Puerto Rico/8/34(H1N1) strain. | 18 | Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for acute respiratory distress syndrome in burn patients:a case series and literature update显示文摘Background:Acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS)has a reported incidence of 34–43%in ventilated burn patients and is associated with a mortality of 59%in the severe form.The use and experience with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO)in burn patients developing ARDS are still limited.We present our results and discuss the significance of ECMO in treating burn patients.Methods:A retrospective analysis of burn patients treated with ECMO for ARDS between January 2017 and January 2019 was performed.Demographic,clinical,and outcome data were collected and analyzed.Results:Eight burn patients were treated at our institution with ECMO in the designated time period.Of these,all but one patient had inhalation injury,burn percentage of TBSA was 37±23%,ABSI score was 8.4±2,and R-Bauxscore was 98±21.Seven patients developed severe ARDS and one patient moderate ARDS according to the Berlin classification with a PaO_(2)/FiO_(2) ratio upon initiation of ECMO therapy of 62±22 mmHg.ECMO duration was 388±283 h.Three patients died from severe sepsis while five patients survived to hospital discharge.Conclusions:ECMO is a viable therapy option in burn patients developing severe ARDS and can contribute to survival rates similar to ECMO therapy in non-burn-associated severe ARDS.Consequently,patients with severe respiratory insufficiency with unsuccessful conventional treatment and suspected worsening should be transferred to burn units with the possibility of ECMO treatment to improve outcome. | Mehran Dadras Johannes M.Wagner Christoph Wallner Julika Huber Dirk Buchwald Justus Strauch Kamran Harati Nicolai Kapalschinski Björn Behr Marcus Lehnhardt | 2019 | Burns & Trauma2019,7,1: | 2 |
