1Treatability studies of naphthalene in soil,water and air with persulfate activated by iron(Ⅱ)显示文摘Chemical oxidation was applied to an artificially contaminated soil with naphthalene(NAP).Evaluation of NAP distribution and mass reduction in soil,water and air phases was carried out through mass balance.Evaluation of NAP distribution and mass reduction in soil,water and air phases was carried out through mass balance.The importance of the air phase analysis was emphasized by demonstrating how NAP behaves in a sealed system over a 4 hr reaction period.Design of Experiments method was applied to the following variables:sodium persulfate concentration[SP],ferrous sulfate concentration[FeS04],and pH.The system operated with a prefixed solid to liquid ratio of 1:2.The following conditions resulted in optimum NAP removal[SP]=18.37 g/L,[FeSO4]=4.25 g/L and pH=3.00.At the end of the 4 hr reaction,62%of NAP was degraded.In the soil phase,the chemical oxidation reduced the NAP concentration thus achieving levels which comply with Brazilian and USA environmental legislations.Besides the NAP partitioning view,the monitoring of each phase allowed the variabilities assessment over the process,refining the knowledge of mass reduction.Based on NAP distribution in the system,this study demonstrates the importance of evaluating the presence of semi-volatile and volatile organic compounds in the air phase during remediation,so that there is greater control of the system as to the distribution and presence of the contaminant in the environment.The results highlight the importance of treating the contaminant in all its phases at the contaminated site.Gabriela P.Mendes Vivian M.A.Magalhaes Lélia C·R·Soares Rayanne M.Aranha Claudio A.O.Nascimento Marilda M.G.R.Vianna Osvaldo Chiavone-Filho 2020Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,4:4

19Melatonin prevents oxidative stress,inflammatory activity,and DNA damage in cirrhotic rats显示文摘BACKGROUND Cirrhosis is an important health problem characterized by a significant change in liver parenchyma.In animals,this can be reproduced by an experimental model of bile duct ligation(BDL).Melatonin(MLT)is a physiological hormone synthesized from serotonin that has been studied for its beneficial properties,including its antioxidant potential.AIM To evaluate MLT’s effects on oxidative stress,the inflammatory process,and DNA damage in an experimental model of secondary biliary cirrhosis.METHODS Male Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups:Control(CO),CO+MLT,BDL,and BDL+MLT.MLT was administered(20 mg/kg)daily beginning on day 15 after biliary obstruction.On day 29 the animals were killed.Blood samples,liver tissue,and bone marrow were collected for further analysis.RESULTS BDL caused changes in biochemical and histological parameters and markers of inflammatory process.Thiobarbituric acid(0.46±0.01)reactive substance levels,superoxide dismutase activity(2.30±0.07)and nitric oxide levels(2.48±0.36)were significantly lower(P<0.001)n the groups that received MLT.DNA damage was also lower(P<0.001)in MLT-treated groups(171.6±32.9)than the BDL-only group(295.5±34.8).Tissue damage and the expression of nuclear factor kappa B,interleukin-1β,Nrf2,NQO1 and Hsp70 were significantly lower in animals treated with MLT(P<0.001).CONCLUSION When administered to rats with BDL-induced secondary biliary cirrhosis,MLT effectively restored the evaluated parameters.Josieli R Colares Renata M Hartmann Elizângela G Schemitt Sandielly R B Fonseca Marilda S Brasil Jaqueline N Picada Alexandre S Dias Aline F Bueno Cláudio A Marroni Norma P Marroni 2022World Journal of Gastroenterology2022,28,3:1
