Individualization of chronic hepatitis C treatment according to the host characteristics显示文摘Hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection is a global health problem that affects more than 170 million people worldwide. It is a major cause of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, making the virus the most common cause of liver failure and transplantation. The standardof-care treatment for chronic hepatitis C(CHC)has been changed during the last decade and direct acting antiviral drugs have already been used.Besides, understanding of the pathogenesis of CHC has evolved rapidly during the last years and now several host factors are known to affect the natural history and response to treatment.Recent genome-wide association studies have shown the important role of interleukin-28B and inosine triphosphatase in HCV infection. The present review article attempts to summarize the current knowledge on the role of host factors towards individualization of HCV treatment.Nikolaos K Gatselis Kalliopi Zachou Asterios Saitis Maria Samara George N Dalekos 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,11:2
Grain-size end-members and environmentally sensitive grain-size components: A comparative study in the mud shelf depocenters off southern Brazil显示文摘The current study aims to do a comparative analysis of the results obtained with two End-Member(EM)grain-size modeling techniques(AnalySize and BasEMMA)and the Environmental Sensitive Grain-Size(ESGS)modeling for sediment samples collected in the mudbelts of the southern Brazilian shelf. The methods were compared using grain-size data from the south Brazilian shelf, and the results are discussed here.It is the first time that the concept of ESGS,in its present form,is utilized outside China. The results show that despite its relative ease of use,the ESGS is not fully comparable to the EM analyses, and only two grain-size ESGS classes were recognized as analogous to EMs.The comparison of the AnalySize and BasEMMA procedures also revealed significant differences between the techniques.A comparative analysis between the two EM techniques revealed advantages in the BasEMMA,especially in the better correlation of the end-members with the original grain size distribution. The analysis of the geographical distribution of the EM abundances allowed point sources of sandy populations to be recognized as well as the contribution of the Rio de la Plata as a source of silty sediments to be inferred.Michel Michaelovitch de Mahiques Samara Cazzoli y Goya Maria Carolina da Silva Nogueira de Matos Rodrigo Augusto Udenal de Oliveira Bianca Sung Mi Kim Paulo Alves de Lima Ferreira Rubens Cesar Lopes Figueira Marcia Caruso Bícego 2021International Journal of Sediment Research2021,36,2:2

Biochar produced from Amazonian agro-industrial wastes:properties and adsorbent potential of Cd^(2+) and Cu^(2+)显示文摘In the Amazon region, several residues that have been misused can serve as feedstocks for biochar production with the aim of recovering soils contaminated by heavy metals. However, these biochars need to be firstly tested for their adsorption capacity as well as their physicochemical attributes prior to field application. Therefore, this study aimed to characterize and evaluate the adsorption capacities of Cd^(2+) and Cu^(2+) of biochars produced from acai(BA),Brazil nut(BN),and palm kernel cake(BK)residues.Biochars were produced by slow pyrolysis at four different temperatures(400,500,600,and 700℃).The physicochemical properties of the biochars, such as cation exchange capacity, ash, recalcitrance index, and aromaticity were enhanced with increased pyrolysis temperature. The adsorption capacities of Cd^(2+) and Cu^(2+) showed high correlations with the physicochemical properties of biochar, indicating the importance of these characteristics in the adsorption process.Furthermore, the adsorption of Cd^(2+) and Cu^(2+) also increased with the increase in the pyrolysis temperature. In a competitive system,Cd^(2+)exhibited higher adsorption capacity than Cu^(2+) for all biochars. In general,BN showed the highest adsorption capacity, followed by BK and BA.Biochars produced from the Amazonian residues have the potential to improve soil quality when used as amendments in the recovery of soils contaminated with Cd and Cu,representing an environmentally sound technology for the reuse of these residues.Yan Nunes Dias Edna Santos Souza Hercilia Samara Cardoso da Costa Leônidas Carrijo Azevedo Melo Evanise Silva Penido Cristine Bastos do Amarante Orivan Maria Marques Teixeira Antonio Rodrigues Fernandes 2019Biochar2019,1,4:1
Microvessel density in differentiated thyroid carcinoma:A systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘BACKGROUND Microvessel density(MVD)has been proposed as a direct quantification method of tumor neovascularization. However, the current literature regarding the role of MVD in differentiated thyroid carcinoma(DTC)remains inconclusive.AIM To appraise the effect of tumoral MVD on the survival of patients with DTC.METHODS This meta-analysis was based on the PRISMA guidelines and the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. The electronic databases Medline,Web of Science, and Scopus were systematically screened.A fixedeffects or random-effects model was used, according to the Cochran Q test. The data were then extracted and assessed on the basis of the Reference Citation Analysis(http://gffzzb1f9d057b5954674swp6qbwoqqcxu6ufv.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/).RESULTS A total of nine studies were included in the present study.Superiority of low MVD tumors in terms of 10-year disease free survival(OR:0.21,95%CI:0.08–0.53)was recorded.Lowly vascularized thyroid cancers had a lower recurrence rate(OR:13.66,95%CI:3.03–61.48).Moreover,relapsing tumors[weighed mean difference(WMD):11.92,95%CI:6.32–17.52]or malignancies with regional lymph node involvement(WMD:8.53,95%CI:0.04–17.02)presented with higher tumoral MVD values.CONCLUSION MVD significantly correlates with the survival outcomes of thyroid cancer patients. However, considering several study limitations, further prospective studies of higher methodological and quality level are required.Konstantinos Perivoliotis Athina A Samara Prodromos Koutoukoglou Panagiotis Ntellas Katerina Dadouli Sotirios Sotiriou Maria Ioannou Konstantinos Tepetes 2022World Journal of Methodology2022,12,5:0
Microvessel density in patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors:A systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs)are considered the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract.Microvessel density(MVD)constitutes a direct method of vascularity quantification and has been associated with survival rates in multiple malignancies.AIM To appraise the effect of MVD on the survival of patients with GIST.METHODS This study adhered to Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines and the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions.Electronic scholar databases and grey literature repositories were systematically screened. The Fixed Effects or Random Effects models were used according to the Cochran Q test.RESULTS In total,6 eligible studies were identified. The pooled hazard ratio(HR)for disease free survival(DFS)was 8.52(95%CI:1.69-42.84,P=0.009).The odds ratios of disease-free survival between high and low MVD groups at 12 and 60 mo did not reach statistical significance.Significant superiority of the low MVD group in terms of DFS was documented at 36 and 120 mo(OR:8.46,P<0.0001 and OR:22.71,P=0.0003,respectively)as well as at metastases rate(OR:0.11,P=0.0003).CONCLUSION MVD significantly correlates with the HR of DFS and overall survival rates at 36 and 120 mo.Further prospective studies of higher methodological quality are required.Konstantinos Perivoliotis Ioannis Baloyiannis Athina A Samara Prodromos Koutoukoglou Panagiotis Ntellas Katerina Dadouli Maria Ioannou Konstantinos Tepetes 2023World Journal of Methodology2023,13,3:0
