| 1 | Biomass-derived nitrogen-doped hierarchical porous carbon as efficient sulfur host for lithium–sulfur batteries显示文摘Lithium-sulfur(Li-S) battery is a potential energy storage technology with high energy density and low cost. However, the gap between theoretical expectation and practical performance limits its wide implementation. Herein, we report a nitrogen-doped porous carbon derived from biomass pomelo peel as sulfur host material for Li-S batteries. The hierarchical porous architecture and the polar surface introduced by N-doping render a favorable combination of physical and chemical sulfur confinements as well as an expedite electron/ion transfer, thus contributing to a facilitated and stabilized sulfur electrochemistry. As a result, the corresponding sulfur composite electrodes exhibit an ultrahigh initial capacity of 1534.6 mAh g^-1, high coulombic efficiency over 98% upon 300 cycles, and decent rate capability up to 2 C. | 2 | Urban Systems:Understanding and Predicting the Spatial Distribution of China's Population显示文摘With urbanization and population migration,some Chinese cities fall into decline whereas others prosper.Using nighttime light data,we redefine the city based on economic function and evaluate the city size distribution in representative countries.The results provide evidence not only for Zipfs law,but also for a distortion in China s current city size distribution.This study proposes a feasible method to predict urban population distribution based on the role of geographical factors in regional development,following the idea of spatial equilibrium.This prediction suggests that the divergence of city size in China tends to be pronounced,with inter-regional income disparity being narrowed and the city size distribution following Zipfs law.The Chinese government should further relax restrictions on population inflow into large cities and prepare for more migration in the future. | Pengfei Li Ming Lu | 2021 | China & World Economy2021,29,4: | 13 |

| 4 | Current Status and Future Challenges of Weather Radar Polarimetry: Bridging the Gap between Radar Meteorology/Hydrology/Engineering and Numerical Weather Prediction显示文摘After decades of research and development, the WSR-88 D(NEXRAD) network in the United States was upgraded with dual-polarization capability, providing polarimetric radar data(PRD) that have the potential to improve weather observations,quantification, forecasting, and warnings. The weather radar networks in China and other countries are also being upgraded with dual-polarization capability. Now, with radar polarimetry technology having matured, and PRD available both nationally and globally, it is important to understand the current status and future challenges and opportunities. The potential impact of PRD has been limited by their oftentimes subjective and empirical use. More importantly, the community has not begun to regularly derive from PRD the state parameters, such as water mixing ratios and number concentrations, used in numerical weather prediction(NWP) models.In this review, we summarize the current status of weather radar polarimetry, discuss the issues and limitations of PRD usage, and explore potential approaches to more efficiently use PRD for quantitative precipitation estimation and forecasting based on statistical retrieval with physical constraints where prior information is used and observation error is included. This approach aligns the observation-based retrievals favored by the radar meteorology community with the model-based analysis of the NWP community. | 7 | Disturbance of light-absorbing aerosols on the albedo in a winter snowpack of Central Tibet显示文摘A field observation on the albedo of the snowpack in Central Tibet was conducted in the Nam Co region in the winter of 2011. Snow properties, including grain size and density, were measured in the field, and surface-layer snow samples (down to 5 cm) were collected. The average concentrations of black carbon and dust were 72 ppbm (close to that in the glaciers of Mt. Nyainqentanglha) and 120 ppmm, respectively. Inverse trends were found to exist between the albedo of the snowpack and light-absorbing aerosols (LAAs) as well as grain size growth. | 10 | Active and stable Cu doped NiMgAlO catalysts for upgrading ethanol to n-butanol显示文摘Upgrading ethanol to n-butanol is an attractive way for renewable n-butanol production. Herein, Cu was selected to modify NiMgAlO catalysts for improving ethanol conversion and n-butanol selectivity. Over the optimized 2%Cu-NiMgAlO catalyst, ethanol conversion and n-butanol selectivity were enhanced to 30.0% and 64.2%, respectively, in 200 h time on stream at 523 K. According to physicochemical characterizations and theoretical calculations, the key role of multiple active sites in this reaction was extensively investigated. The plate-like structure of hydrotalcite was maintained over 2%Cu-NiMgAlO catalysts, with an average Ni particle size of ca. 5.4 nm. The presence of Cu species created CuNi alloy sites and Lewis acid-base pairs, and increased hydrogen transfer and condensation reactions, resulting in elevated ethanol conversion and n-butanol selectivity. | 19 | SIRT1 activation synergizes with FXR agonism in hepatoprotection via governing nucleocytoplasmic shuttling and degradation of FXR显示文摘Farnesoid X receptor(FXR)is widely accepted as a promising target for various liver diseases;however,panels of ligands in drug development show limited clinical benefits,without a clear mechanism.Here,we reveal that acetylation initiates and orchestrates FXR nucleocytoplasmic shuttling and then enhances degradation by the cytosolic E3 ligase CHIP under conditions of liver injury,which represents the major culprit that limits the clinical benefits of FXR agonists against liver diseases.Upon inflammatory and apoptotic stimulation,enhanced FXR acetylation at K217,closed to the nuclear location signal,blocks its recognition by importin KPNA3,thereby preventing its nuclear import.Concomitantly,reduced phosphorylation at T442 within the nuclear export signals promotes its recognition by exportin CRM1,and thereby facilitating FXR export to the cytosol.Acetylation governs nucleocytoplasmic shuttling of FXR,resulting in enhanced cytosolic retention of FXR that is amenable to degradation by CHIP.SIRT1 activators reduce FXR acetylation and prevent its cytosolic degradation.More importantly,SIRT1 activators synergize with FXR agonists in combating acute and chronic liver injuries.In conclusion,these findings innovate a promising strategy to develop therapeutics against liver diseases by combining SIRT1 activators and FXR agonists. | Shuang Cui Huijian Hu An Chen Ming Cui Xiaojie Pan Pengfei Zhang Guangji Wang Hong Wang Haiping Hao | 2023 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2023,13,2: | 1 |
