1Current Trends in Pickering Emulsions: Particle Morphology and Applications显示文摘In recent years,Pickering emulsions and their applications have attracted a great deal of attention due to their special features,which include easy preparation and enhanced stability.In contrast to classical emulsions,in Pickering emulsions,solid microparticles or nanoparticles that localize at the interface between liquids are used as stabilizers,instead of surfactants,to enhance the droplet lifetime.Furthermore,Pickering emulsions show higher stability,lower toxicity,and stimuli-responsiveness,compared with emulsions that are stabilized by surfactants.Therefore,they can be considered attractive components for various uses,such as photocatalysis and the preparation of new materials.Moreover,the nanoparticle morphology strongly influences Pickering emulsion stability as well as the potential utilization of such emulsions.Here,we review recent findings concerning Pickering emulsions,with a particular focus on how the nanoparticles morphology(i.e.,cube,ellipsoid,nanosheet,sphere,cylinder,rod,peanut)influences the type and stability of such emulsions,and their current applications in different fields such as antibacterial activity,protein recognition,catalysis,photocatalysis,and water purification.Danae Gonzalez Ortiz Celine Pochat-Bohatier Julien Cambedouzou Mikhael Bechelany Philippe Miele 2020Engineering2020,6,4:22
2Intestinal permeability in the pathogenesis of liver damage: From non-alcoholic fatty liver disease to liver transplantation显示文摘The intimate connection and the strict mutual cooperation between the gut and the liver realizes a functional entity called gut-liver axis.The integrity of intestinal barrier is crucial for the maintenance of liver homeostasis.In this mutual relationship,the liver acts as a second firewall towards potentially harmful substances translocated from the gut,and is,in turn,is implicated in the regulation of the barrier.Increasing evidence has highlighted the relevance of increased intestinal permeability and consequent bacterial translocation in the development of liver damage.In particular,in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease recent hypotheses are considering intestinal permeability impairment,diet and gut dysbiosis as the primary pathogenic trigger.In advanced liver disease,intestinal permeability is enhanced by portal hypertension.The clinical consequence is an increased bacterial translocation that further worsens liver damage.Furthermore,this pathogenic mechanism is implicated in most of liver cirrhosis complications,such as spontaneous bacterial peritonitis,hepatorenal syndrome,portal vein thrombosis,hepatic encephalopathy,and hepatocellular carcinoma.After liver transplantation,the decrease in portal pressure should determine beneficial effects on the gut-liver axis,although are incompletely understood data on the modifications of the intestinal permeability and gut microbiota composition are still lacking.How the modulation of the intestinal permeability could prevent the initiation and progression of liver disease is still an uncovered area,which deserves further attention.Alberto Nicoletti Francesca Romana Ponziani Marco Biolato Venanzio Valenza Giuseppe Marrone Gabriele Sganga Antonio Gasbarrini Luca Miele Antonio Grieco 2019World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,33:19
3Pediatric gastrointestinal bleeding: Perspectives from the Italian Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology显示文摘There are many causes of gastrointestinal bleeding(GIB) in children, and this condition is not rare, having a reported incidence of 6.4%. Causes vary with age, but show considerable overlap; moreover, while many of the causes in the pediatric population are similar to those in adults, some lesions are unique to children. The diagnostic approach for pediatric GIB includes definition of the etiology, localization of the bleeding site and determination of the severity of bleeding; timely and accurate diagnosis is necessary to reduce morbidity and mortality. To assist medical care providers in the evaluation and management of children with GIB, the 'Gastro-Ped Bleed Team' of the Italian Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition(SIGENP) carried out a systematic search on MEDLINE via Pub Med(http://gffzz16a62c593b5540cehnpq99wb9oko96669.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/pubmed/) to identify all articles published in English from January 1990 to 2016; the following key words were used to conduct the electronic search: 'upper GIB' and 'pediatric' [all fields]; 'lower GIB' and 'pediatric' [all fields]; 'obscure GIB' and 'pediatric' [all fields]; 'GIB' and 'endoscopy' [all fields]; 'GIB' and 'therapy' [all fields]. The identified publications included articles describing randomized controlled trials, reviews, case reports, cohort studies, casecontrol studies and observational studies. References from the pertinent articles were also reviewed. This paper expresses a position statement of SIGENP that can have an immediate impact on clinical practice and for which sufficient evidence is not available in literature. 4Antitumor effects of the benzophenanthridine alkaloid sanguinarine: Evidence and perspectives显示文摘Historically, natural products have represented a significant source of anticancer agents, with plant-derived drugs becoming increasingly explored. In particular, sanguinarine is a benzophenanthridine alkaloid obtained from the root of Sanguinaria canadensis, and from other poppy Fumaria species, with recognized anti-microbial, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Recently, increasing evidence that sanguinarine exibits anticancer potential through its capability of inducing apoptosis and/or antiproliferative effects on tumor cells, has been proved. Moreover, its antitumor seems to be due not only to its pro-apoptotic and inhibitory effects on tumor growth, but also to its antiangiogenic and anti-invasive properties. Although the precise mechanisms underlying the antitumor activity of this compound remain not fully understood, in this review we will focus on the most recent findings about the cellular and molecular pathways affected by sanguinarine, together with the rationale of its potential application in clinic. 5Liver toxicity of rosuvastatin therapy显示文摘We report here a case of clinically significant liver toxicity after a brief course of rosuvastatin, which is the first statin approved by the regulatory authorities since the withdrawal of cerivastatin. Whether rosuvastatin has a greater potential compared with other statins to damage the liver is unclear and the involved mechanisms are also unknown. However, rosuvastatin is taken up by hepatocytes more selectively and more efficiently than other statins, and this may reasonably represent an important variable to explain the hepatotoxic potential of rosuvastatin. 6Synergistic effect of interleukin-10-receptor variants in a case of early-onset ulcerative colitis显示文摘AIM:To investigated the molecular cause of very early-onset ulcerative colitis(UC)in an 18-mo-old affected child.METHODS:We analysed the interleukin-10(IL10)receptor genes at the DNA and RNA level in the proband and his relatives.Beta catenin and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNFα)receptors were analysed in the proteins extracted from peripheral blood cells of the proband,his relatives and familial adenomatous polyposis(FAP)and PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome(PHTS)patients.Samples were also collected from the proband’s inflamed colorectal mucosa and compared to healthy and tumour mucosa collected from a FAP patient and patients affected by sporadic colorectal cancer(CRC).Finally,we examined mesalazine and azathioprine effects on primary fibroblasts stabilised from UC and FAP patients.RESULTS:Our patient was a compound heterozygote for the IL10RB E47K polymorphism,inherited from his father,and for a novel point mutation within the IL10RA promoter(the-413G->T),inherited from his mother.Beta catenin and tumour necrosis factorαreceptors-Ⅰ(TNFRI)protein were both over-expressed in peripheral blood cells of the proband’s relatives more than the proband.However,TNFRII was over-expressed only in the proband.Finally,both TNFα-receptors were shown to be under-expressed in the inflamed colon mucosa and colorectal cancer tissue compared to healthy colon mucosa.Consistent with this observation,mesalazine and azathioprine induced,in primary fibroblasts,IL10RB and TNFRII over-expression and TNFRI and TNFαunder-expression.We suggest thatβ-catenin and TNFRI protein expression in peripheral blood cells could represent molecular markers of sub-clinical disease in apparently healthy relatives of patients with early-onset UC.CONCLUSION:A synergistic effect of several variant alleles of the IL10 receptor genes,inherited in a Mende-lian manner,is involved in UC onset in this young child.Martina Galatola Erasmo Miele Caterina Strisciuglio Lorella Paparo Daniela Rega Paolo Delrio Francesca Duraturo Massimo Martinelli Giovanni Battista Rossi Annamaria Staiano Paola Izzo Marina De Rosa 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,46:7
7Italian survey on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugsand gastrointestinal bleeding in children显示文摘AIM: To investigate gastrointestinal complications associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug(NSAIDs) use in children.METHODS: A retrospective, multicenter study was conducted between January 2005 and January 2013, with the participation of 8 Italian pediatric gastroenterology centers. We collected all the cases of patients who refer to emergency room for suspected gastrointestinal bleeding following NSAIDs consumption, and underwent endoscopic evaluation. Previous medical history, associated risk factors, symptoms and signs at presentation, diagnostic procedures, severity of bleeding and management of gastrointestinal bleeding were collected. In addition, data regarding type of drug used, indication, dose, duration of treatment and prescriber(physician or selfmedication) were examined. RESULTS: Fifty-one patients, including 34 males, were enrolled(median age: 7.8 years). Ibuprofen was the most used NSAID [35/51 patients(68.6%)]. Pain was the most frequent indication for NSAIDs use [29/51 patients(56.9%)]. Seven patients had positive family history of Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infection or peptic ulcer, and 12 had associated comorbidities. Twenty-four(47%) out of 51 patients used medication inappropriately. Hematemesis was the most frequent symptom(33.3%). Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed gastric lesions in 32/51(62%) patients, duodenal lesions in 17(33%) and esophageal lesions in 8(15%). In 10/51(19.6%) patients, a diagnosis of H. pylori gastritis was made. 8Ethanol injection is highly effective for hepatocellular carcinoma smaller than 2cm显示文摘AIM:To analyze the long-term prognosis in a cohort of western cirrhotic patients with single hepatocellular carcinoma treated with ethanol injection.METHODS:One-hundred forty-eight patients with solitary hepatocellular carcinoma were enrolled.The tumor diameter was lower than 2 cm in 47 patients but larger in the remaining 101 patients.The impact of some pretreatment clinical and laboratory parameters and of tumor recurrence on patients' survival was assessed.RESULTS:Among the pre-treatment parameters,only a tumor diameter of less than 2 cm was an independent prognostic factor of survival.The occurrence of new nodules in other liver segments and the neoplastic portal invasion were linked to a poorer prognosis at univariate analysis.Patients with a single hepatocellular carcinoma smaller than 2 cm showed a better 5-year cumulativesurvival(73.0% vs 47.9%)(P = 0.009),3-year local recurrence rate(29.1% vs 51.5%)(P = 0.011),and 5-year distant intrahepatic recurrence rate(52.9% vs 62.8%)(P = 0.054) compared to patients with a larger tumor.CONCLUSION:The 5-year survival rate of patients with single hepatocellular carcinoma < 2 cm undergoing ethanol injection is excellent and comparable to that achieved using radiofrequency ablation.Maurizio Pompili Erica Nicolardi Valeria Abbate Luca Miele Laura Riccardi Marcello Covino Nicoletta De Matthaeis Antonio Grieco Raffaele Landolfi Gian Ludovico Rapaccini 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,26:6
9Intestinal permeability after Mediterranean diet and low-fat diet in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘BACKGROUND In non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD), a high-fat or high-fructose diet increases intestinal permeability and promotes derangement of the gut-liver axis.We hypothesize that, diet could be able to modulate intestinal permeability in patients with NAFLD.AIM To detect diet-induced modification of intestinal permeability in patients with NAFLD undergoing a Mediterranean diet or a low-fat diet.METHODS The current study was a dietary intervention for non-diabetic, patients with biopsy-verified NAFLD and increased transaminases. A crossover design was employed: participants underwent 16 weeks of Mediterranean diet, 16 wk of free wash-out, and 16 weeks of low-fat diet. Both diets were hypocaloric and no consumption of supplements was allowed. All patients were followed bimonthly by a dietitian. Evaluations of clinical and metabolic parameters were completed at baseline and at the end of each dietary period. Intestinal permeability was assessed by chromium-51 ethylene diamine tetraacetate excretion testing(51 CrEDTA).RESULTS Twenty Caucasian patients, 90% male, median age 43 years, body mass index(BMI) 30.9, with biopsy-verified NAFLD were enrolled. At the end of 16 weeks of a Mediterranean diet, a significant reduction in mean body weight(-5.3 ± 4.1 kg,P = 0.003), mean waist circumference(-7.9 ± 4.9 cm, P = 0.001), and mean transaminase levels [alanine aminotransferase(ALT)-28.3 ± 11.9 IU/L, P =0.0001; aspartate aminotransferase(AST)-6.4 ± 56.3 IU/L, P = 0.01] were observed. These benefits were maintained after 16 wk of wash-out and also after16 wk of low-fat diet, without further improvements. Fourteen of the 20 patients had intestinal permeability alteration at baseline(mean percentage retention of51 Cr-EDTA = 5.4%), but no significant changes in intestinal permeability were observed at the end of the 16 wk of the Mediterranean diet or 16 wk of the low-fat diet.CONCLUSION Mediterranean diet is an effective strategy for treating overweight, visceral obesity and serum transaminase in patients with NAFLD. 10Tumor necrosis factor-α inhibitors and chronic hepatitis C:A comprehensive literature review显示文摘Tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)inhibitors are known to increase reactivation of concurrent chronic hepatitis B,but their impact on the hepatitis C virus(HCV)is controversial.Some conditions of immunosuppression,such as liver transplantation,typically cause an increase in the rate of HCV evolution.Inhibition of TNF-α,a cytokine involved in the apoptotic signaling pathway of hepatocytes infected by HCV,could potentially increase viral replication.Currently available clinical data appear to contradict this hypothesis.A review of medical literature revealed that a total of 216 patients with HCV were exposed to one or more treatments with TNF-αinhibitors,with a median observation time of 1.2 years and 260 cumulative patient-years of exposure.Only three cases of drug withdrawal due to suspected HCV liver disease recrudescence were reported.Treatment with TNF-αinhibitors in patients with HCV infection appears to be safe in the short term,but there are insufficient data to assess their long-term safety.Universal screening for HCV before beginning treatment with TNF-αinhibitors is currently controversial.The presence of HCV is not a contraindication to therapy with TNF-αinhibitors,with the exception of cirrhotic patients.In cases of cirrhosis,the benefit/risk ratio should be evaluated at the individual level.Prior to treatment with TNF-αinhibitors,patients with HCV should be referred to a hepatologist to determine the necessity of hepatic disease assessment,using liver biopsy or noninvasive methods,and the potential indication for antiviral therapy.In patients with HCV infection who are treated with TNF-αinhibitors,liver function monitoring every three months is advised.Maurizio Pompili Marco Biolato Luca Miele Antonio Grieco 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,44:4

12Cobalt,a reactive metal in releasing hydrogen from sodium borohydride by hydrolysis:A short review and a research perspective显示文摘Cobalt is commonly admitted as being a promising catalyst in accelerating NaBH4 hydrolysis,being as reactive as noble metals and much more cost-effective.This is the topic of the present paper.Herein,we survey(i) the NaBH4-devoted literature while especially focusing on the Co catalysts and(ii) our work on the same topic.Finally,we report(iii) reactivity results of newly developed Co-based catalysts.From both surveys,it mainly stands out that Co has been investigated as catalysts in various forms:namely,as chlorides,reduced nanoparticles(metal Co,Co boride,Co-B alloy),supported over supports and shaped.In doing so the reactivity can be easily varied achieving H2 generation rates from few to >1000 L(H2)/min·g(metal).Nevertheless,our work can be distinguished from the NaBH4 literature.Indeed,we are working on strategies that focus on making alternative Co-based catalysts.One of these strategies is illustrated here as we report new reactivity data of Co-based bimetallic supported catalysts.For example,we show that 20 wt% Co90Y10/γAl2O3-20 wt% Co95Hf5/γAl2O3 > 20 wt% Co99Zr1/γAl2O3 > 20 wt% Co/γAl2O3,the best catalysts showing HGRs of about 245 mL(H2)/min or 123 L(H2) /min·g(metals).DEMIRCI Umit B AKDIM Ouardia HANNAUER Julien CHAMOUN Rita MIELE Philippe 2010Science China Chemistry2010,53,9:3
