3Computational Biology Approaches to Plant Metabolism and Photosynthesis:Applications for Corals in Times of Climate Change and Environmental Stress显示文摘Knowledge of factors that are important in reef resilience helps us to understand how reef ecosystems react following major anthropogenic and environmental disturbances. The symbiotic relationship between the photosynthetic zooxanthellae algal cells and corals is that the zooxanthellae provide the coral with carbon, while the coral provides protection and access to enough light for the zooxanthellae to photosynthesise. This article reviews some recent advances in computational biology relevant to photosynthetic organisms, including Beyesian approaches to kinetics, computational methods for flux balances in metabolic processes, and determination of clades of zooxanthallae. 8In-chamber thermocatalytic tar cracking and syngas reforming using char-supported NiO catalyst in an updraft biomass gasifier显示文摘The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of an in-chamber tar cracking and syngas reforming unit.This unit was composed of a two-stage tubular reactor placed within the combustion zone of an updraft biomass gasifier.Heat generated in the exothermic combustion reactions of biomass gasification drove tar cracking and syngas reforming in the tubes,eliminating the need of external heating.The performance of the unit was evaluated using char-supported NiO catalysts and was found to be very effective in tar removal and syngas composition enhancement.A tar removal rate of 95% was achieved at 0.3 s residence time and 10%nickel loading.This condition also gave syngas high-heating value increment of 36%(to 7.3 MJ/m^(3)).The effect of gas residence time and Ni loading on tar removal and syngas composition of the unit was also studied.Gas residence of 0.2-0.3 s and Ni loading of 5%-10% were found appropriate to produce clean syngas with tar content appropriate for industrial applications(<0.6 g/m^(3))in an updraft biomass gasifier without external heating.Arthur M.James R Wenqiao Yuan Michael D.Boyette Donghai Wang Ajay Kumar 2014International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2014,7,6:1

13Generating high-resolution climate maps from sparse and irregular observations using a novel hybrid RBF network显示文摘Sparse and irregular climate observations in many developing countries are not enough to satisfy the need of assessing climate change risks and planning suitable mitigation strategies.The wideused statistical downscaling model(SDSM)software tools use multi-linear regression to extract linear relations between largescale and local climate variables and then produce high-resolution climate maps from sparse climate observations.The latest machine learning techniques(e.g.SRCNN,SRGAN)can extract nonlinear links,but they are only suitable for downscaling low-resolution grid data and cannot utilize the link to other climate variables to improve the downscaling performance.In this study,we proposed a novel hybrid RBF(Radial Basis Function)network by embedding several RBF networks into new RBF networks.Our model can well incorporate climate and topographical variables with different resolutions and extract their nonlinear relations for spatial downscaling.To test the performance of our model,we generated high-resolution precipitation,air temperature and humidity maps from 34 meteorological stations in Bangladesh.In terms of three statistical indicators,the accuracy of high-resolution climate maps generated by our hybrid RBF network clearly outperformed those using a multi-linear regression(MLR),Kriging interpolation or a pure RBF network.Yue Han Zhihua Zhang M.James C.Crabbe 2023Big Earth Data2023,7,4:0
14Predicting Carpark Prices Indices in Hong Kong Using AutoML显示文摘The aims of this study were threefold:1)study the research gap in carpark and price index via big data and natural language processing,2)examine the research gap of carpark indices,and 3)construct carpark price indices via repeat sales methods and predict carpark indices via the AutoML.By researching the keyword“carpark”in Google Scholar,the largest electronic academic database that coversWeb of Science and Scopus indexed articles,this study obtained 999 articles and book chapters from 1910 to 2019.It confirmed that most carpark research threw light on multi-storey carparks,management and ventilation systems,and reinforced concrete carparks.The most common research method was case studies.Regarding price index research,many previous studies focused on consumer,stock,press and futures,with many keywords being related to finance and economics.These indicated that there is no research predicting carpark price indices based on an AutoML approach.This study constructed repeat sales indices for 18 districts in Hong Kong by using 34,562 carpark transaction records from December 2009 to June 2019.Wanchai’s carpark price was about four times that of Yuen Long’s carpark price,indicating the considerable carpark price differences inHong Kong.This research evidenced the features that affected the carpark price indices models most:gold price ranked the first in all 19 models;oil price or Link stock price ranked second depending on the district,and carpark affordability ranked third.Rita YiMan Li Lingxi Song Bo Li M.James C.Crabbe Xiao-Guang Yue 2023Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2023,,3:0
15ABL1 and Cofilin1 promote T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell migration显示文摘The fusion gene of ABL1 is closely related to tumor proliferation,invasion,and migration.It has been reported recently that ABL1 itself is required for T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia(T-ALL)cell migration induced by CXCL12.Further experiments revealed that ABL1 inhibitor Nilotinib inhibited leukemia cell migration induced by CXCL12,indicating the possible application of Nilotinib in T-ALL leukemia treatment.However,the interacting proteins of ABL1 and the specific mechanisms of their involvement in this process need further investigation.In the present study,ABL1 interacting proteins were characterized and their roles in the process of leukemia cell migration induced by CXCL12 were investigated.Co-immunoprecipitation in combination with mass spectrometry analysis identified 333 proteins that interact with ABL1,including Cofilin1.Gene ontology analysis revealed that many of them were enriched in the intracellular organelle or cytoplasm,including nucleic acid binding components,transfectors,or co-transfectors.Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analysis showed that the top three enriched pathways were translation,glycan biosynthesis,and metabolism,together with human diseases.ABL1 and Cofilin1 were in the same complex.Cofilin1 binds the SH3 domain of ABL1 directly;however,ABL1 is not required for the phosphorylation of Cofilin1.Molecular docking analysis shows that ABL1 interacts with Cofilin1 mainly through hydrogen bonds and ionic interaction between amino acid residues.The mobility of leukemic cells was significantly decreased by Cofilin1 siRNA.These results demonstrate that Cofilin1 is a novel ABL1 binding partner.Furthermore,Cofilin1 participates in the migration of leukemia cells induced by CXCL12.These data indicate that ABL1 and Cofilin1 are possible targets for T-ALL treatment.Jixian Luo Huiguang Zheng Sen Wang Dingyun Li Wenli Ma Lan Wang M.James C.Crabbe 2021Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2021,53,10:0
16Do Research Incentives Promote Researchers’Mental Health?显示文摘Background:Researchers have a higher risk of anxiety and depression than the general population,so it is important to promote researchers’mental health.Method:Based on the data from 3210 global researchers surveyed by the journal Nature in 2021,confirmatory factor analysis,OLS regression and other regressions were used to explore the research incentive dimensions and their effects on researchers’mental health.Results:(1)Material incentive factors,work-family life balance factors,good organizational environment and spiritual motivation had significant positive effects on researchers’mental health.(2)The spiritual motivation could better promote researchers’mental health than the other factors.(3)Heterogeneity analysis showed that material incentive factors and spiritual motivation created more significant stimulating effects on the mental health of humanities and social sciences researchers.Work-family life balance factors were more effective in promoting the mental health of the mid-career group and the overtime group.Conclusion:Application of the four research incentives resulted in lower likelihood of anxiety or depression among researchers,and special attention should be paid to the role of the spiritual motivation.In order to promote researchers’mental health,different incentives should be applied to different researcher groups to better improve researchers’mental health.Liujian Gu Tao Wang Chuanyi Wang M.James CCrabbe Xiao-Guang Yue 2023International Journal of Mental Health Promotion2023,25,8:0
17Integrative analysis of the metabolome and transcriptome reveals the potential mechanism of fruit flavor formation in wild hawthorn(Crataegus chungtienensis)显示文摘Hawthorns are important medicinal and edible plants with a long history of health protection in China.Besides cultivated hawthorn,other wild hawthorns may also have excellent medicinal and edible value,such as Crataegus chungtienensis,an endemic species distributed in the Southwest of China.In this study,by integrating the flavor-related metabolome and transcriptome data of the ripening fruit of C.chungtienensis,we have developed an understanding of the formation of hawthorn fruit quality.The results show that a total of 849 metabolites were detected in the young and mature fruit of C.chungtienensis,of which flavonoids were the most detected metabolites.Among the differentially accumulated metabolites,stachyose,maltotetraose and cis-aconitic acid were significantly increased during fruit ripening,and these may be important metabolites affecting fruit flavor change.Moreover,several flavonoids and terpenoids were reduced after fruit ripening compared with young fruit.Therefore,using the unripe fruit of C.chungtienensis may allow us to obtain more medicinal active ingredients such as flavonoids and terpenoids.Furthermore,we screened out some differentially expressed genes(DEGs)related to fruit quality formation,which had important relationships with differentially accumulated sugars,acids,flavonoids and terpenoids.Our study provides new insights into flavor formation in wild hawthorn during fruit development and ripening,and at the same time this study lays the foundation for the improvement of hawthorn fruit flavor.Xien Wu Dengli Luo Yingmin Zhang Ling Jin M.James C.Crabbe Qin Qiao Guodong Li Ticao Zhang 2023Plant Diversity2023,45,5:0
18Quaternion Quasi-Chebyshev Non-local Means for Color Image Denoising显示文摘Quaternion non-local means(QNLM)denoising algorithm makes full use of high degree self-similarities inside images to suppress the noise,so the similarity metric plays a key role in its denoising performance.In this study,two improvements have been made for the QNLM:1)For low level noise,the use of quaternion quasi-Chebyshev distance is proposed to measure the similarity of image patches and it has been used to replace the Euclidean distance in the QNLM algorithm.Since the quasi-Chebyshev distance measures the maximal distance in all color channels,the similarity of color images measured by quasi-Chebyshev distance can capture the structural similarity uniformly for each color channel;2)For high level noise,quaternion bilateral filtering has been proposed as the preprocessing step in the QNLM algorithm.Denoising simulations were performed on 110 images of landscape,people,and architecture at different noise levels.Compared with QNLM,quaternion non-local total variation(QNLTV),and non-local means(NLM)variants(NLTV,NLM after wavelet threshold preprocessing,and the color adaptation of NLM),our novel algorithm not only improved PSNR/SSIM(peak signal to noise rate/structural similarity)and figure of merit values by an average of 2.77 dB/8.96%and 0.0491 respectively,but also reduced processing time.XU Xudong ZHANG Zhihua M.James C.Crabbe 2023Chinese Journal of Electronics2023,32,3:0
