| 1 | Interleukin-6 compared to the other Th17/Treg related cytokines in inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer显示文摘BACKGROUND The connection between inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)and colorectal cancer(CRC)is well-established,as persistent intestinal inflammation plays a substantial role in both disorders.Cytokines may further influence the inflammation and the carcinogenesis process.AIM To compare cytokine patterns of active IBD patients with early and advanced CRC.METHODS Choosing a panel of cytokines crucial for Th17/Treg differentiation and behavior,in colon specimens,as mRNA biomarkers,and their serum protein levels.RESULTS We found a significant difference between higher gene expression of FoxP3,TGFb1,IL-10,and IL-23,and approximately equal level of IL-6 in CRC patients in comparison with IBD patients.After stratification of CRC patients,we found a significant difference in FoxP3,IL-10,IL-23,and IL-17A mRNA in early cases compared to IBD,and IL-23 alone in advanced CRC.The protein levels of the cytokines were significantly higher in CRC patients compared to IBD patients.CONCLUSION Our findings showed that IL-6 upregulation is essential for both IBD and CRC development until the upregulation of other Th17/Treg related genes(TGFb1,IL-10,IL-23,and transcription factor FoxP3)is a crucial primarily for CRC development.The significantly upregulated IL-6 could be a potential drug target for IBD and prevention of CRC development as well. | Tsvetelina Veselinova Velikova Lyuba Miteva Noyko Stanilov Zoya Spassova Spaska Angelova Stanilova | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,16: | 10 |
| 2 | Structure-activity relationship in water-gas shift reaction over gold catalysts supported on Y-doped ceria显示文摘The utilization of pure hydrogen as an energy source in fuel cells gave rise to renewed interest in developing active and stable water-gas shift catalysts. Gold catalysts have proven to be very efficient for water-gas shift reaction at low temperature. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of:(i) different preparation methods(impregnation and coprecipitation) to obtain a modified ceria support,and(ii) the amount of Y_2 O_3(1.0 wt%, 2.5 wt%, 5.0 wt% and 7.5 wt%) as dopant on the water-gas shift activity of Au/CeO_2 catalysts. An extended characterization by means of S_(BET), XRD, HRTEM/HAADF, FTIR,H_2-TPR and CO-TPR measurements in combination with careful evaluation of the catalyst behavior allowed to shed light on the parameters governing the water-gas shift activity. The catalysts show very high activity(>90% CO conversion) in the temperature range 180-220 ℃,with a slightly better performance of the gold catalysts on supports prepared by impregnation. The decreased activity with increasing Y_2 O_3 concentration is related to the hindering of oxygen mobility due to ordering of surface oxygen vacancies in vicinity of segregated Y^(3+). | 14 | Emerging robot swarm traffic显示文摘Purpose-This paper aims to discuss traffic patterns generated by swarms of robots while commuting to and from a base station.Design/methodology/approach-The paper adopts a mathematical evaluation and robot swarm simulation.The swarm approach is bottom-up:designing individual agents the authors are looking for emerging group behaviour patterns.Examples of group behaviour patterns are human-driven motorized traffic which is rigidly structured in two lanes,while army ants develop a three-lane pattern in their traffic.The authors copy army ant characteristics onto their robots and investigate whether the three lane traffic pattern may emerge.They follow a three-step approach.The authors first investigate the mathematics and geometry of cases occurring when applying the artificial potential field method to three“perfect”robots.Any traffic pattern(two,three or more lanes)appears to be possible.Next,they use the mathematical cases to study the impact of limited visibility by defining models of sensor designs.In the final step the authors implement ant inspired sensor models and a trail following mechanism on the robots in the swarm and explore which traffic patterns do emerge in open space as well as in bounded roads.Findings-The study finds that traffic lanes emerge in the swarm traffic;however the number of lanes is dependent on the initial situation and environmental conditions.Intrinsically the applied robot models do not determine a specific number of traffic lanes.Originality/value-The paper presents a method for studying and simulating robot swarms. | Jacques Penders Lyuba Alboul | 2012 | International Journal of Intelligent Computing and Cybernetics2012,5,3: | 0 |
