1The enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP显示文摘In this paper we present the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP. eXTP is a space science mission designed to study fundamental physics under extreme conditions of density, gravity and magnetism. The mission aims at determining the equation of state of matter at supra-nuclear density, measuring effects of QED, and understanding the dynamics of matter in strong-field gravity. In addition to investigating fundamental physics, eXTP will be a very powerful observatory for astrophysics that will provide observations of unprecedented quality on a variety of galactic and extragalactic objects. 2Magnetic nanoparticles based cancer therapy: current status and applications显示文摘Nanotechnology holds a promising potential for developing biomedical nanoplatforms in cancer therapy. The magnetic nanoparticles, which integrate uniquely appealing features of magnetic manipulation, nanoscale heat generator, localized magnetic field and enzyme-mimics, prompt the development and application of magnetic nanoparticles-based cancer medicine. Considerable success has been achieved in improving the magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) sensitivity, and the therapeutic function of the magnetic nanoparticles should be given adequate attention. This work reviews the current status and applications of magnetic nanoparticles based cancer therapy. 3Honokiol:a promising small molecular weight natural agent for the growth inhibition of oral squamous cell carcinoma cells显示文摘Honokiol (HNK) is a small organic molecule purified from magnolia species and has demonstrated anticancer activities in a variety of cancer cell lines; however, its effect on oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cells is unknown. We investigated the antitumor activities of HNK on OSCC cells in vitro for the first time. The inhibitory effects of HNK on the growth and proliferation of OSCC cells were demonstrated via in vitro 3-(4,5-dimethyl thiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and propidium iodide (PI) assays, and the apoptotic cells were investigated by the observation of morphological changes and detection of DNA fragmentation via PI, TdT-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL), and DNA ladder assays, as well as flow cytometry assay. The results showed that HNK inhibited the growth and proliferation of OSCC cells in vitro in a time and dose-dependent manner. The inhibitory effect was associated with the cell apoptosis induced by HNK, evidenced by the morphological features of apoptotic cells, TUNEL-positive cells and a degradation of chromosomal DNA into small internucleosomal fragments. The study also demonstrated here that the inhibition or apoptosis mediated by 15 μg·mL-1 or 20 μg·mL-1 of HNK were more stronger compared with those of 20 μg·mL-1 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu, the control) applied to OSCC cells, when the ratio of OSCC cell numbers were measured between the treatment of different concentrations of HNK to the 5-Fu treatment for 48 h. 4The Oral Microbiome Bank of China显示文摘The human microbiome project(HMP) promoted further understanding of human oral microbes. However, research on the human oral microbiota has not made as much progress as research on the gut microbiota. Currently, the causal relationship between the oral microbiota and oral diseases remains unclear, and little is known about the link between the oral microbiota and human systemic diseases. To further understand the contribution of the oral microbiota in oral diseases and systemic diseases, a Human Oral Microbiome Database(HOMD) was established in the US. The HOMD includes 619 taxa in 13 phyla, and most of the microorganisms are from American populations. Due to individual differences in the microbiome, the HOMD does not reflect the Chinese oral microbial status. Herein, we established a new oral microbiome database—the Oral Microbiome Bank of China(OMBC,http://gffzz1f92d53390b34408h5k909o6qcob666k0.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/ombc). Currently, the OMBC includes information on 289 bacterial strains and 720 clinical samples from the Chinese population, along with lab and clinical information. 5Satellite dataset analysis of recent vegetation variation in Tibet region显示文摘This research investigates the recent distribution variation trends of vegetation in the Tibet region using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data from 2000 to 2007. It also discusses the causes of vegetation degradation in typical regions (such as Nagqu) based on climatic conditions, human activity, and other influencing factors. Results show that the areas with the best vegetation cover are in Nyingchi and the southern part of Shannan, followed by Chamdo, the Lhasa area, and the eastern part of Nagqu. Vegetation in various regions exhibits significant seasonal differences. The vegetation status has improved in some parts of the Tibet region in the past few years, while the areas with the most serious degradation are in the middle and southern parts of the Nagqu region. On average, distinct vegetation degradation occurred between 2003 and 2006 in the whole Tibet region but vegetation has been increasing since 2006. The vegetation cover in summer basically determines the annual vegetation status. An increase in precipitation and decrease in wind speed generally corresponds to an increase in vegetation cover. The reverse is also true: a decrease in precipitation and increase in wind speed correspond to the decrease in vegetation cover. NDVI is thus positively related to temperature and precipitation but has a negative relation with wind speed. Increasing temperature and decreasing precipitation have led to the present vegetation degradation in Nagqu, and vegetation in all of these regions has been affected by growth of human population, intensified urbanization, livestock overgrazing leading to the proliferation of noxious plants, extraction of underground minerals and alluvial gold, extensive harvesting of traditional Chinese medicinal plants [e.g., Cordyceps sinensis, Caladium spp., and saffron crocus (Crocus sativus)], and serious rodent and other pest damage.Zhuo Ga Xirl Li LUO Bu CaiYun Wang 2011Research in Cold and Arid Regions2011,3,5:3
