| 1 | Determination of rice panicle numbers during heading by multi-angle imaging显示文摘Plant phenomics has the potential to accelerate progress in understanding gene functions and environmental responses. Progress has been made in automating high-throughput plant phenotyping. However, few studies have investigated automated rice panicle counting. This paper describes a novel method for automatically and nonintrusively determining rice panicle numbers during the full heading stage by analyzing color images of rice plants taken from multiple angles. Pot-grown rice plants were transferred via an industrial conveyer to an imaging chamber. Color images from different angles were automatically acquired as a turntable rotated the plant. The images were then analyzed and the panicle number of each plant was determined. The image analysis pipeline consisted of extracting the i2 plane from the original color image, segmenting the image, discriminating the panicles from the rest of the plant using an artificial neural network, and calculating the panicle number in the current image. The panicle number of the plant was taken as the maximum of the panicle numbers extracted from all 12 multi-angle images. A total of 105 rice plants during the full heading stage were examined to test the performance of the method. The mean absolute error of the manual and automatic count was 0.5, with 95.3% of the plants yielding absolute errors within ± 1. | 3 | Inhibitory effect of Salicornia europaea on the marine alga Skeletonema costatum显示文摘Exploiting the negative biochemical interference between plants and algal species has been suggested as a method to control harmful algal blooms.In this work,we investigated the inhibitory effect of the salt marsh halophyte Salicornia europaea against the marine alga Skeletonema costatum.S.europaea suppressed the growth of S.costatum in a nutrient-sufficient co-culture system,indicating that the inhibition of algal growth was because of the phytotoxic effect of S.europaea,rather than nutrient competition.We tested aqueous and organic extracts from S.europaea roots against S.costatum.The organic extracts inhibited growth and affected the cell size and chlorophyll a content of S.costatum in a dose-dependent manner.Among the three tested organic extracts,the methanol extract had the greatest effects on S.costatum,followed by butanol extract,and then the chloroform extract.Two flavonoids,rutin and quercetin-3-D-glucoside,were identified in the methanol extract by high performance liquid chromatography.The concentration of rutin was much higher than that of quercetin-3-D-glucoside.In an algal bioassay,rutin inhibited the growth of S.costatum and the inhibitory effect increased with increasing rutin concentration and with decreasing initial algal density.Therefore,we concluded that S.europaea negatively affects the growth of S.costatum,and that rutin,a metabolite of S.europaea,may play a role in this inhibitory effect. | JIANG Dan HUANG LingFeng LIN YongQing NIE LingLing LV SuLian KUANG TingYun LI YinXin | 2012 | Science China(Life Sciences)2012,55,6: | 8 |
| 4 | Factors regulating population dynamics of the amphipod Ampithoe valida in a eutrophic subtropical coastal lagoon显示文摘Year-round investigations were carried out to address the population dynamics of amphipod Ampithoe valida and its potential regulating factors in the Yundang Lagoon (a eutrophic subtropical coastal lagoon in Xiamen City, China) from October 2007 to October 2008. The results show that A. valida population was largely composed of juveniles and reached a peak abundance (12.02 × 10 3 ind./m2 ) in March, but sharply shrunk in July. The monthly variation pattern of A. valida seemed to follow that of Ulva lactuca which is the main food resource for A. valida, indicating a strong influence of food availability on A. valida population dynamics. Life cycle studies in laboratory indicate that A. valida adopted an r-selected life strategy, e.g., rapid growth rate (0.216-0.302 mm/d), consecutive breeding (4-10 times), short reproductive rhythm (9-17 d) and huge fecundity (24-192 eggs or 6-94 juveniles per brood), which contributed to the fast population growth of A. valida from January to March. Although temperature may also be a significant cause, A. valida could grow quickly and show normal reproductive traits (i.e., the timing of sexual differentiation or maturity, the reproductive rhythm, the number of broods all through its lifespan and offspring production) in temperature between 15-30 C. Therefore, the temperature variation in the lagoon water should not account for the sharp variation of A. valida population by affecting the survival, growth and reproduction of the amphipod. However, negative correlation between water temperature and U. lactuca biomass in the lagoon suggested that temperature could have indirectly affected the population dynamics of A. valida by affecting its food availability. However, low dimensional perovskites suffer from low power conversion efficiency(PCE) with respect to their three dimensional analogues. Therefore, it is imperative to find excellent low-dimensional perovskite materials for improving the PCE. Previous work has demonstrated that bulkier organic molecules,e.g., C_6 H_5(CH_2)_2 NH_3^+(PEA^+), CH_3(CH_2)_3 NH_3^+(n-BA+, iso-BA+), C_2H_4NH_3^+, and polyethylenimine cations(PEI+), play an important role in the formation of low-dimensional perovskites. | 8 | High-Performance Photo-Modulated Thin-Film Transistor Based on Quantum dots/Reduced Graphene Oxide Fragment-Decorated ZnO Nanowires显示文摘In this paper, a photo-modulated transistor based on the thin-film transistor structure was fabricated on the flexible substrate by spin-coating and magnetron sputtering. A novel hybrid material that composed of Cd Se quantum dots and reduced graphene oxide(RGO) fragment-decorated ZnO nanowires was synthesized to overcome the narrow optical sensitive waveband and enhance the photo-responsivity. Due to the enrichment of the interface and heterostructure by RGO fragments being utilized, the photo-responsivity of the transistor was improved to 2000 AW^(-1) and the photo-sensitive wavelength was extended from ultraviolet to visible. In addition, a positive back-gate voltage was employed to reduce the Schottky barrier width of RGO fragments and ZnO nanowires. As a result, the amount of carriers was increased by 10 folds via the modulation of back-gate voltage. | 9 | Rationally exfoliating chitin into 2D hierarchical porous carbon nanosheets for high-rate energy storage显示文摘Two-dimensional(2D)carbon nanomaterials with hierarchical porous structure and heteroatoms doping are highly desirable in the fields of energy storage because of their rich active surface and open ion diffusion channels.However,the scalable preparation of carbon materials simultaneously possessing ultrathin 2D feature and hierarchical pores remains a considerable challenge.Herein,a facile one-step method to massively fabricate 2D porous chitin nanosheets(coded as PCNs)via a phytic acid assisted top-down exfoliation of bulk chitin under hydrothermal treatment was presented.Subsequently,2D carbon nanosheets with extra-thin thickness(3.6 nm),well-defined hierarchical porosity,high specific surface area(855 m2·g^-1),as well as abundant self-doped heteroatoms(N,O,P)were fabricated by carbonizing the PCNs,and was named as HPCNs.The as-obtained HPCNs demonstrated remarkable electrochemical performance as electrode material for supercapacitors.The symmetric supercapacitors(SSCs)based on HPCNs exhibited a high specific capacitance of 79 F·g^-1(316 F·g^-1 for single electrode)in 6 M KOH aqueous electrolyte solution,as well as a remarkable energy density of 23.8 W·h·kg^-1 by using 1 M Li2SO4 as electrolyte.It is also demonstrated that HPCNs/PCNs hybrid dispersions can be used as inks to fabricate conductive films and energy devices with high strength and superior flexibility.This work paves a new avenue for the economical and large-scale synthesis of 2D hierarchically porous carbon materials for energy storage related applications. | Lingfeng Gao Guoqun Zhang Jie Cai Liang Huang Jun Zhou Lina Zhang | 2020 | Nano Research2020,13,6: | 2 |

| 13 | Amphipods fail to suppress the accumulation of Ulva lactuca biomass in eutrophic Yundang Lagoon显示文摘The Gross growth efficiency(GGE) is defined as the amount of consumer carbon produced relative to the amount of prey ingested in a given time interval. In population ecology, it can be considered as an index for the ability of a consumer to convert the biomass of food into its population production. In this study, it was firstly applied to estimate the role of amphipods grazing in the biomass dynamics of macroalgae(Ulva lactuca) in Yundang Lagoon(a subtropical eutrophic coastal lagoon, Xiamen City, China). It was found that amphipods were the dominant group(82.2%–98.7%) in the benthic assemblage, in which five amphipod species(Corophium uenoi, Ampithoe valida, Grandidierella japonica, Grammaropsis laevipalmata and Caprella panantis) were observed in the lagoon. However, only A. valida significantly consumed U. lactuca among these amphipod species. A series of experiments were conducted to estimate the consumption of U. lactuca by A. valida. It was suggested that the monthly secondary production(P) of A. valida using size frequency method ranged from 2.39 to 13.68 g/m2. GGE of A. valida exponentially reduced with body size and was closely associated with water temperature. Therefore, GGE equation for different months using the temperature recorded during the field investigation was fitted. The monthly consumption of U. lactuca was figured out to be 86.7–1 549.0 g/m2 by the sum of consumption(P/GGE) by A. valida at different size, accounting for 2.0%–37.5% of U. lactuca production. It indicates that the grazing effect of A. valida did play a role in reducing the accumulation of U. lactuca biomass when A. valida was abundant, but it finally fails to limit the U. lactuca growth in Yundang Lagoon. | 19 | A novel therapeutic vaccine based on graphene oxide nanocomposite for tumor immunotherapy显示文摘With an intensive understanding of the mechanism of immune system,developing a therapeutic tumor vaccine is one of the most perspective strategy of cancer immunotherapy.In this study,we report a facile approach to prepare graphene oxide(GO)-based therapeutic cancer-nanovaccine.The model antigen(ovalbumin,OVA)and adjuvant(CpG ODN),are conjugated with GO-PEI nanosheet through electrostatic interaction.The addition of PEG can improve biocompatibility and prevent nanoparticle aggregation.The prepared GO-based nanovaccine,GO-PEI-OVA-PEG-CpG,exhibits good biocompatibility and low toxicity both in vivo and in vitro.More importantly,it can efficiently induce the maturation of dendritic cells(DCs),the enhancement of antigen cross-presentation ability,and the amplification of cytokine production of immune cells.Impressively,this nanovaccine shows a remarkable therapeutic effect against preestablished B16-OVA-melanoma tumors,which can significantly inhibit tumor growth and prolong the survival time of the OVA-expressed tumor-bearing mice.Moreover,combining GO-PEI-OVA-PEG-CpG with NLG919,an IDO-1(indoleamine-2,3-dioxygenase)inhibitor which can regulate the tumor microenvironment,displays a synergistic therapeutic effect.These findings indicate the GO-PEI-OVA-PEG-CpG nanovaccine actively induces an antigen-specific antitumor immune response and it combined with NLG919 could achieve better therapeutic outcomes. | Liming Zhang Lingfeng Xu Yi Wang Jieyu Liu Guanghong Tan Fengying Huang Nongyue He Zhuoxuan Lu | 2022 | Chinese Chemical Letters2022,33,8: | 1 |
