| 1 | Startup and operation of anaerobic EGSB reactor treating palm oil mill effluent显示文摘A bench-scale expanded granular sludge bed (EGSB) reactor was applied to the treatment of palm oil mill effuent (POME). The reactor had been operated continuously at 35°C for 514 d, with organic loading rate (OLR) increased from 1.45 to 17.5 kg COD/(m3·d). The results showed that the EGSB reactor had good performance in terms of COD removal on the one hand, high COD removal of 91% was obtained at two days’ of hydraulic retention time (HRT), and the highest OLR of 17.5 kg COD/(m3·d). On the other hand, only 46% COD in raw POME was transformed into biogas in which the methane content was about 70% (V/V). A 30-d intermittent experiment indicated that the maximum transformation potential of organic matter in raw POME into methane was 56%. Volatile fatty acid (VFA) accumulation was observed in the later operation stage, and this was settled by supplementing trace metal elements. On the whole, the system exhibited good stability in terms of acidity and alkalinity. | 2 | A new sorbent that simultaneously sequesters multiple classes ofpollutants from water: Surfactant modified zeolite显示文摘A zeolite (ZFA) was synthesized from coal fly ash and then modified using hexadecyltrimethylammonium. The surfactant modified ZFA (SMZFA) was evaluated for its versatility to sequester multiple classes of pollutants from water. The target pollutants include ionic inorganic pollutants (ammonium and phosphate), ionic organic pollutants (methylene blue and humic acid), ionizable organic pollutants (bisphenol A,-chlorophenol and phenol, with different pKa), and electrically neutral or-ganic pollutants (aniline, nitrobenzene, and naphthalene, with different hydrophobicity). The SMZFA showed high potential for the retention of ammonium and phosphate, being comparable with ZFA. While the negative charge in the internal pores of zeolite was responsible for the retention of ammonium, the oxides of CaO, Al2O3and Fe2O3in the non-zeolite fraction, which originated from coal fly ash but received modification during zeolite synthesis, accounted for the removal of phosphate. Results also showed that while ZFA had little affinity for humic acid, the ionizable, and the electrically neutral organic compounds, SMZFA exhibited greatly enhanced adsorption capacity. Thus, the surfactant modified external surface, which formed a bilayer micelle of zeolite, imparts a hydrophobic characteristic that enables the uptake of the organic pollutants. | 4 | Research of multi-path routing based on network coding in space information networks显示文摘A multi-path routing algorithm based on network coding is proposed for combating long propagation delay and high bit error rate of space information networks. On the basis of traditional multi-path routing, the algorithm uses a random linear network coding strategy to code data packets. Code number is determined by the next hop link status and the number of current received packets sent by the upstream node together. The algorithm improves retransmission and cache mechanisms through using redundancy caused by network coding. Meanwhile, the algorithm also adopts the flow distribution strategy based on time delay to balance network load. | 5 | Recent Advances in Visible-Light-Driven Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting: Catalyst Nanostructures and Reaction Systems显示文摘Photoelectrochemical(PEC) water splitting using solar energy has attracted great attention for generation of renewable hydrogen with less carbon footprint, while there are enormous challenges that still remain for improving solar energy water splitting efficiency, due to limited light harvesting, energy loss associated to fast recombination of photogenerated charge carriers, as well as electrode degradation. This overview focuses on the recent development about catalyst nanomaterials and nanostructures in different PEC water splitting systems. As photoanode, Au nanoparticle-decorated TiO_2 nanowire electrodes exhibited enhanced photoactivity in both the UV and the visible regions due to surface plasmon resonance of Au and showed the largest photocurrent generation of up to 710 nm. Pt/Cd S/CGSe electrodes were developed as photocathode. With the role of p–n heterojunction, the photoelectrode showed high stability and evolved hydrogen continuously for more than 10 days. Further, in the Z-scheme system(Bi_2S_3/TNA as photoanode and Pt/Si PVC as photocathode at the same time), a self-bias(open-circuit voltage Voc= 0.766 V) was formed between two photoelectrodes, which could facilitate photogenerated charge transfers and enhance the photoelectrochemical performance, and which might provide new hints for PEC water splitting. | 18 | Surface characteristics of regenerative Fe-KOH/LSB catalysts for low-temperature catalytic hydrolysis of carbon disulfide and research of the surface regeneration mechanism显示文摘In the present study, a series of regeneration conditions and the regeneration mechanism of modified lake sediment biochar (Fe-KOH/LSB) catalysts for low-temperature catalytic hydrolysis of carbon disulfide (CS2) were investigated. The results showed that Rm-WNA method had the best regeneration effect. Under optimal regeneration conditions,the sulfur capacity (13.86 mg[s]/g[catalyst])of regenerated Fe- KOH/LSB was close to that of fresh Fe-KOH/LSB (14.88 mg[s]/g[cataiyst]). The water washing process could wash away a small number of sulfates and a large number of alkaline groups. TG-DTA and DRTFIR results indicated that the nitrogen sweeping process could decompose Fe2(SO4)3 into Fe2O3, which partially recovered the catalytic and the adsorptive abilities. CO2-TPD results indicated that the alkali steeping process offer -OH groups, further improving the catalytic and the adsorptive abilities. After 3 times-regeneration,the sulfur capacity of Fe-KOH/LSB reached 13.31 mg[s]/g[cataiyst], indicating that the Rm-WNA method had good stability for the recovery of the catalytic activity. | 20 | CD4^+ T cells from behcet patients produce high levels of IL-17显示文摘Purpose:To investigate the role of interleukin (IL)-17-producing CD4+ T cells in Behcet disease (BD).Methods:Blood samples were drawn from eight BD patients with active uveitis,eight BD patients with inactive uveitis and eight normal controls,respectively.PBMCs were prepared from heparinized blood by Ficoll-Hypaque density-gradient centrifugation.Peripheral CD4+ T cells were purified by Human CD4 Microbeads.(MACS).The purity rate of CD4+ T cells was detected using flow cytometry.Purified CD4+ T cells were stimulated with or without anti-CD3 and anti-CD28 antibodies in the presence or absence of recombinant-IL-23 (rIL-23) or recombinant-IL-12 (rIL-12) for 72 hours.The concentrations of IL-17,IFN-γ and IL-4 in the collected supernatants from CD4+ T cells were measured using a Duoset ELISA Development kit.Results:The results showed that the levels of IL-17 and IFN-γ observed in active BD patients were significantly higher as compared with those in inactive patients and normal controls.There was no significant difference concerning IL-4 production between BD patients and normal controls.rIL-23 significantly augmented the production of IL-17 by CD4+ T cells from both BD patients and normal controls.Both rIL-23 and rIL-12 could increase IFN-γ production by CD4+ T cells from BD patients and normal controls.Moreover,the effect of rIL-12 was more robust compared with that of rIL-23.Neither rIL-23 nor rIL-12 exerted any effect on IL-4 production.Conclusion:rIL-23 can promote the production of IL-17 by CD4+ T cells in BD patients.The upregulated IL-17 levels may be related with the intraocular inflammation of Behcet patients. | Wei Chi Sheng Zhou Peizeng Yang Lina Chen | 2011 | Eye Science2011,26,2: | 0 |
