| 1 | New paleontological evidence on time determination of the east part of the Eastern Kunlun Mélange and its tectonic significance显示文摘New paleontological evidence suggests that the composition of the matrix and slices from the middle and the south of the Eastern Kunlun Mélange Belt is very complex, ranging from Proterozoic to Mesozoic in geological time. A Cambrian acritarch assemblage has been discovered from the middle part of the Eastern Kunlun Mélange, a Neoproterozoic to the early Paleozoic acritarch assemblage has been discovered from the south of the Eastern Kunlun Mé lange, and so has been an Early Permian radiolarian from the A’nyemaqen Mélange in Buqing- shan. In addition, some sporopollen has been obtained from the Mesozoic tectonic slices. The above-mentioned paleontological evidence indicates that the Eastern Kunlun Orogenic Belt experienced two episodes from ocean to continent from the Neoproterozoic to the Early Paleo- zoic and in the Late Paleozoic respectively. | 2 | Field investigation on severely damaged aseismic buildings in 2014 Ludian earthquake显示文摘The 2014 magnitude 6.5 Ludian earthquake caused a death toll of 617, many landslides and tens of thousands of collapsed buildings. A field investigation to evaluate the damage to buildings was carried out immediately after the occurrence of the earthquake. Severely damaged aseismic buildings, which were basically observed in the downtown of Longtoushan Town, were carefully examined one by one with the aim to improve design codes. This paper summarizes the damage observed to the investigated aseismic buildings in both the structural and local levels. A common failure mode was observed that most of the aseismic buildings, such as RC frame structures and confined masonry structures, were similarly destroyed by severe damage or complete collapse of the first story. The related strong ground motion, which was recorded at the nearby station, had a short duration of less than 20 s but a very large PGA up to 1.0 g. The RC frames based on the new design codes still failed to achieve the design target for 'strong column, weak beam'. | 3 | New evidence for microstructural evolution model of acid-activated montmorillonite显示文摘Ca-montmorillonite samples from Choushan treated at various acid concentrations were studied using chemical analysis, XRD, 29Si and 27A1 MAS NMR, to investigate the microstructure of the activated montmorillonites. With the increase of acid concentration and dissolution of cations of montmorillonite, the intensity of d(001) decreased obviously and significant changes of the microstructure of Si and Al occurred. There were two new types of structural units of Si atoms formed: (SiO)3SiOH units and Q4(0A1) units. For Al atoms, in the course of activation, the removal of one of a pair of octahedral aluminium atoms from montmorillonite removed two hydroxyl groups and left the other aluminum of the pair in the four-fold coordination. The 27A1 signal at 5 54.0 corresponding to AlIV arose from the four-coordinated Al in the octahedral sheet.
