| 2 | Symmetric-key cryptosystem with DNA technology显示文摘DNA cryptography is a new field which has emerged with progress in the research of DNA computing. In our study, a symmetric-key cryptosystem was designed by applying a modern DNA biotechnology, microarray, into cryptographic technologies. This is referred to as DNA symmetric-key cryptosystem (DNASC). In DNASC, both encryption and decryption keys are formed by DNA probes, while its ciphertext is embedded in a specially designed DNA chip (microarray). The security of this system is mainly rooted in difficult biology processes and problems, rather than conventional computing technology, thus it is unaffected by changes from the attack of the coming quantum computer. The encryption process is a fabrication of a specially designed DNA chip and the decryption process is the DNA hybridization. In DNASC, billions of DNA probes are hybridized and identified at the same time, thus the decryption process is conducted in a massive, parallel way. | 4 | Spontaneous viral clearance after 6-21 years of hepatitis B and C viruses coinfection in high HBV endemic area显示文摘AIM: To investigate the clinical and virological course of coinfection by hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) in China.METHODS: We enrolled 40 patients with chronic HBV and HCV coinfection (Group BC), 16 patients with chronic HBV infection (Group B) and 31 patients with chronic HCV infection (Group C). They infected HBV and/or HCV during 1982 to 1989.Sera of all the 87 patients were collected in 1994 and 2002respectively. We detected biochemical and virologic markers and serum HBV DNA and HCV RNA levels of all the patients. Btype ultrasound detection was performed in some patients.RESULTS: In Group BC, 67.5% of the patients cleared HBsAg,and 92.5% of the patients cleared HBeAg. The clearance rate of HBV DNA was 87.5%. There was no significant difference of HBV clearance between Group BC and Group B. In Group BC, 85.7% of males and 47.4% of females cleared HBV, and males were easier to clear HBV (x2=6.686, P=0.010). Such a tendency was also found in Group B. The clearance rate of HCV RNA in Group BC was 87.5%, significantly higher than that in Group C (x2=22.963, P<0.001). Less than 40% of the patients in all groups had elevated liver enzyme values. The highest value of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) was 218 u/L (normal range for ALT is 0-40 u/L). In most patients the ultrasonogram presentations changed mildly.CONCLUSION: The clinical manifestations of patients with HBV/HCV coinfection are mild and occult. High clearance rate of HBV and easy to clear HBV in male patients are the characteristics of HBV infection in adults in China. | 5 | From portal to splanchnic venous thrombosis:What surgeons should bear in mind显示文摘The present study aims to review the evolution of surgical management of portal(PVT) and splanch-nic venous thrombosis(SVT) in the context of liver transplantation over the last 5 decades. PVT is more commonly managed by endovenous thrombectomy, while SVT requires more complex technical expedients. Several surgical techniques have been proposed, such as extensive eversion thrombectomy, anastomosis to collateral veins, reno-portal anastomosis, cavo-portal hemi-transposition, portal arterialization and combined liver-intestinal transplantation. In order to achieve satisfactory outcomes, careful planning of the surgical strategy is mandatory. The excellent results that are ob-tained nowadays confirm that, even extended, splanch-nic thrombosis is no longer an absolute contraindication for liver transplantation. | 6 | Activation of human fibroblast-like synoviocytes by uric acid crystals in rheumatoid arthritis显示文摘Hyperuricemia-mediated uric acid crystal formation may cause joint inflammation and provoke the destruction of joints through the activation of inflammasome-mediated innate immune responses.However,the immunopathological effects and underlying intracellular regulatory mechanisms of uric acid crystal-mediated activation of fibroblast-like synoviocytes(FLS)in rheumatoid arthritis(RA)have not been elucidated.Therefore,we investigated the in vitro effects of monosodium urate crystals,alone or in combination with the inflammatory cytokines tumor-necrosis factor(TNF)-a or interleukin(IL)-1b,on the activation of human FLS from RA patients and normal control subjects and the underlying intracellular signaling mechanisms of treatment with these crystals.Monosodium urate crystals were able to significantly increase the release of the inflammatory cytokine IL-6,the chemokine CXCL8 and the matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-1 from both normal and RA-FLS(all P,0.05).Moreover,the additive or synergistic effect on the release of IL-6,CXCL8 and MMP-1 from both normal and RA-FLS was observed following the combined treatment with monosodium urate crystals and TNF-a or IL-1b.Further experiments showed that the release of the measured inflammatory cytokine,chemokine and MMP-1 stimulated by monosodium urate crystals were differentially regulated by the intracellular activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase and c-Jun N-terminal kinase pathways but not the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway.Our results therefore provide a new insight into the uric acid crystal-activated immunopathological mechanisms mediated by distinct intracellular signal transduction pathways leading to joint inflammation in RA. | Da P Chen Chun K Wong Lai S Tam Edmund K Li Christopher WK Lam | 2011 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2011，8，6： | 5 |

Mostly these works pertained to applications of ANN. Recently, another tool of soft computing, namely, Genetic Programming (GP) has caught the attention of researchers in civil engineering computing. This article examines the usefulness of the GP based approach to predict the relative scour depth downstream of a common type of ski-jump bucket spillway. Actual field measurements were used to develop the GP model. | 11 | Review of allergic contact dermatitis: Scratching the surface显示文摘Contact dermatitis-including allergic contact dermatitis(ACD)-n and results in over four million lost work days per year in the United States alone. ACD is a classic example of a type IV delayed hypersensitivity reaction, and represents a significant burden on the health system, economy, and patient quality of life. Thorough history taking, clinical examination, histologic evaluation, and patch testing are keys to diagnosing contact dermatitis. Patch testing, especially with comprehensive and customized panels based on the patient's exposure history, is particularly useful in identifying potential allergens inthe case of allergic contact dermatitis. ACD management requires a combination of direct medical intervention, patient education, and appropriate environmental modification to prevent exposure to offending allergens in the home or workplace. Continuing advances in the study of ACD has led to an increased understanding of the disease processes, new methods for diagnosis, and improved management. | 19 | Complex hepatic outflow reconstruction in domino liver transplantation显示文摘Domino liver transplantation has been accepted as a safe procedure to further expand the organ donor pool. The most important technical challenge of the procedure resides in restoring a proper hepatic venous allograft outflow in the familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy-liver recipient. To overcome this issue, combined techniques were used to perform an innovative outflow reconstruction. A domino liver transplantation was successfully performed with reconstruction of complex venous outflow. The inferior vena cava sparing hepatectomy technique in the familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy-donor was used to cut the hepatic vein to the liver parenchyma.
