1Carbon pools and fluxes in the China Seas and adjacent oceans显示文摘The China Seas include the South China Sea, East China Sea, Yellow Sea, and Bohai Sea. Located off the Northwestern Pacific margin, covering 4700000 km^2 from tropical to northern temperate zones, and including a variety of continental margins/basins and depths, the China Seas provide typical cases for carbon budget studies. The South China Sea being a deep basin and part of the Western Pacific Warm Pool is characterized by oceanic features; the East China Sea with a wide continental shelf, enormous terrestrial discharges and open margins to the West Pacific, is featured by strong cross-shelf materials transport; the Yellow Sea is featured by the confluence of cold and warm waters; and the Bohai Sea is a shallow semiclosed gulf with strong impacts of human activities. Three large rivers, the Yangtze River, Yellow River, and Pearl River, flow into the East China Sea, the Bohai Sea, and the South China Sea, respectively. The Kuroshio Current at the outer margin of the Chinese continental shelf is one of the two major western boundary currents of the world oceans and its strength and position directly affect the regional climate of China. These characteristics make the China Seas a typical case of marginal seas to study carbon storage and fluxes. This paper systematically analyzes the literature data on the carbon pools and fluxes of the Bohai Sea,Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea, including different interfaces(land-sea, sea-air, sediment-water, and marginal sea-open ocean) and different ecosystems(mangroves, wetland, seagrass beds, macroalgae mariculture, coral reefs, euphotic zones, and water column). Among the four seas, the Bohai Sea and South China Sea are acting as CO_2 sources, releasing about0.22 and 13.86–33.60 Tg C yr^(-1) into the atmosphere, respectively, whereas the Yellow Sea and East China Sea are acting as carbon sinks, absorbing about 1.15 and 6.92–23.30 Tg C yr^(-1) of atmospheric CO_2, respectively. Overall, if only the CO_2 exchange at the sea-air interface is considered, the Chinese marginal seas appear to be a source of atmospheric CO_2, with a net release of 6.01–9.33 Tg C yr^(-1), mainly from the inputs of rivers and adjacent oceans. The riverine dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) input into the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea are 5.04, 14.60, and 40.14 Tg C yr^(-1),respectively. The DIC input from adjacent oceans is as high as 144.81 Tg C yr^(-1), significantly exceeding the carbon released from the seas to the atmosphere. In terms of output, the depositional fluxes of organic carbon in the Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea are 2.00, 3.60, 7.40, and 5.92 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. The fluxes of organic carbon from the East China Sea and South China Sea to the adjacent oceans are 15.25–36.70 and 43.93 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. The annual carbon storage of mangroves, wetlands, and seagrass in Chinese coastal waters is 0.36–1.75 Tg C yr^(-1), with a dissolved organic carbon(DOC) output from seagrass beds of up to 0.59 Tg C yr^(-1). Removable organic carbon flux by Chinese macroalgae mariculture account for 0.68 Tg C yr^(-1) and the associated POC depositional and DOC releasing fluxes are 0.14 and 0.82 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. Thus, in total, the annual output of organic carbon, which is mainly DOC, in the China Seas is 81.72–104.56 Tg C yr^(-1). The DOC efflux from the East China Sea to the adjacent oceans is 15.00–35.00 Tg C yr^(-1). The DOC efflux from the South China Sea is 31.39 Tg C yr^(-1). 2Abrupt temperature change and a warming hiatus from 1951 to 2014 in Inner Mongolia, China显示文摘An abrupt temperature change and a warming hiatus have strongly influenced the global climate.This study focused on these changes in Inner Mongolia, China. This study used the central clustering method, Mann-Kendall mutation test and other methods to explore the abrupt temperature change and warming hiatus in three different temperature zones of the study region based on average annual data series.Among the temperature metrics investigated, average minimum temperature(Tnav) shifted the earliest,followed by average temperature(Tnv) and average maximum temperature(Txav). The latest change was observed in summer(1990 s), whereas the earliest was observed in winter(1970 s). Before and after the abrupt temperature change, Tnav fluctuated considerably, whereas there was only a slight change in Txav.Before and after the abrupt temperature change, the winter temperature changed more dramatically than the summer temperature. Before the abrupt temperature change, Tnav in the central region(0.322°C/10 a)and west region(0.48°C/10 a) contributed the most to the increasing temperatures. After the abrupt temperature change, Tnav in winter in the central region(0.519°C/10 a) and in autumn in the west region(0.729°C/10 a) contributed the most to the temperature increases. Overall, in the years in which temperature shifts occurred early, a warming hiatus also appeared early. The three temperature metrics in spring(1991)in the east region were the first to exhibit a warming hiatus. 3Relationship between hyperlipidemia and the gut microbiome of rats, characterized using high-throughput sequencing显示文摘Objective:To determine the effects of a high-fat diet(HFD)on the gut microbiome in rats,to explore the relationship between the intestinal flora and blood lipid profile.Methods:SpragueeDawley rats were fed an HFD for four weeks to induce hyperlipidemia,then 16S rRNA sequencing was used to compare the intestinal flora between hyperlipidemic and control diet-fed rats.Results:The microbiome of rats fed an HFD for four weeks differed from that of control diet-fed rats.Bacterial species that were less abundant were most affected by HFD feeding,among which were many pathogenic species,which became significantly more abundant.Eighteen genera were present in significantly different numbers in hyperlipidemic and control rats,more than half of which have been linked to infection and inflammation,or energy intake and obesity.The results indicated a type of stress response of the flora to a high-fat environment.In addition,the age of the rats tended to influence the gut microbial composition.Conclusion:These findings suggest that HFD may induce hyperlipidemia by affecting the gut microbial composition.Changes in the abundance of pro-inflammatory and pathogenic bacteria,and those that influence energy intake and obesity,may be important mediators of this.Yaqi Li Quantao Ma Jingkang Wang Pengfei Li Long Cheng Yongcheng An Yuhui Duan Hongyu Dai Ting Wang Baosheng Zhao 2020Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences2020,7,2:3

6Improvement on Condition Assessment Model for Oil-paper Insulation显示文摘Identification of the aging condition and the failure probability of oil-paper insulation in transformer is important for improving the reliability of electric power transmission system and applying life cycle cost (LCC) management to electrical equipment. Based on data obtained in a series of multi-accelerated-aging experiments, two approaches for calculating failure probability of oil-paper insulation were compared in aspects of degree of polymerization (DP) and condition ranking. In the experiments, mineral oil and cellulose paper are sub- jected to electrical and thermal stresses, and several parameters, including dissolved gases’ volume fraction, furfural content, moisture content, and degree of polymerization, are measured after the aging process. Results show that weight of carbon oxide, which has a close relationship with cellulose paper degradation, is much higher in DP model than in condition ranking model. 12Critical climate issues toward carbon neutrality targets显示文摘In 2020,China announced the'emission peak,carbon neutrality'policy,that is,China aims to have CO2 emissions peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.The scenario of carbon neutrality will be significantly distinguished from the scenario we experienced since the industrial revolution.However,instrumental data are unavailable in the future carbon-neutral scenario.Earth system models and climate dynamics theory are needed to comprehend and project the climate change.In this paper,we illustrate our perspective of the issues related to'emission peak,carbon neutrality',including climate dynamics,climate-carbon feedback,interaction between China and global climate and carbon emissions and solutions,etc.We highlight that climate change has profoundly affected human production and life.The frequent occurrence of extreme weather disasters in recent years,together with the impact of epidemics,make the future'carbon peak&carbon-neutral'scenario more complex.There is whopping uncertainty but also a massive challenge to the scientific community.Thus,carbon neutrality is closely related to domestic production and lives,and there is little time left for planning.We believe that we will make a breakthrough in climate dynamics in the context of carbon neutrality with our joint efforts,which will serve our country’s carbon emission policy at different stages.Gang Huang Zhenhao Xu Xia Qu Junji Cao Shangmin Long Kai Yang Hongyu Hou Ya Wang Xiaofan Ma 2022Fundamental Research2022,2,3:0
13Unsupervised Martian Dust Storm Removal via Disentangled Representation Learning显示文摘Mars exploration has become a hot spot in recent years and is still advancing rapidly. However, Mars has massive dust storms that may cover many areas of the planet and last for weeks or even months. The local/global dust storms are so influential that they can significantly reduce visibility, and thereby the images captured by the cameras on the Mars rover are degraded severely. This work presents an unsupervised Martian dust storm removal network via disentangled representation learning(DRL). The core idea of the DRL framework is to use the content encoder and dust storm encoder to disentangle the degraded images into content features(on domain-invariant space) and dust storm features(on domain-specific space). The dust storm features carry the full dust storm-relevant prior knowledge from the dust storm images. The “cleaned” content features can be effectively decoded to generate more natural, faithful, clear images.The primary advantages of this framework are twofold. First, it is among the first to perform unsupervised training in Martian dust storm removal with a single image, avoiding the synthetic data requirements. Second, the model can implicitly learn the dust storm-relevant prior knowledge from the real-world dust storm data sets, avoiding the design of the complicated handcrafted priors. 14Loss of two families of SPX domain-containing proteins required for vacuolar polyphosphate accumulation coincides with the transition to phosphate storage in green plants显示文摘Phosphorus is an essential nutrient for plants.It is stored as inorganic phosphate(Pi)in the vacuoles of land plants but as inorganic polyphosphate(polyP)in chlorophyte algae.Although it is recognized that the SPX-Major Facilitator Superfamily(MFS)and VPE proteins are responsible for Pi influx and efflux,respectively,across the tonoplast in land plants,the mechanisms that underlie polyP homeostasis and the transition of phosphorus storage forms during the evolution of green plants remain unclear.In this study,we showed that CrPTCI,encoding a protein with both SPX and SLC(permease solute carrier 13)domains for Pi transport,and CrVTC4,encoding a protein with both SPX and vacuolar transporter chaperone(VTC)domains for polyP synthesis,are required for vacuolar polyP accumulation in the chlorophyte Chlamydomonas rein-hardtii.Phylogenetic analysis showed that the SPX-SLC,SPX-VTC,and SPX-MFS proteins were present in the common ancestor of green plants(Viridiplantae).The SPX-SLC and SPX-VTC proteins are conserved among species that store phosphorus as vacuolar polyP and absent from genomes of plants that store phosphorus as vacuolar Pi.By contrast,SPX-MFS genes are present in the genomes of streptophytes that store phosphorus as Pi in the vacuoles.These results suggest that loss of SPX-SLC and SPX-VTC genes and functional conservation of SPX-MFS proteins during the evolution of streptophytes accompanied the change from ancestral polyP storage to Pi storage.Long Wang Xianqing Jia Yuxin Zhang Lei Xu Benoit Menand Hongyu Zhao Houqing Zeng Liam Dolan Yiyong Zhu Keke Yi 2021Molecular Plant2021,14,5:0
15The origin and evolution of salicylic acid signaling and biosynthesis in plants显示文摘Salicylic acid(SA)plays a pivotal role in plant response to biotic and abiotic stress.Several core SA signaling regulators and key proteins in SA biosynthesis have been well characterized.However,much remains unknown about the origin,evolution,and early diversification of core elements in plant SA signaling and biosynthesis.In this study,we identified 10 core protein families in SA signaling and biosynthesis across green plant lineages.We found that the key SA signaling receptors,the nonexpresser of pathogenesis-related(NPR)proteins,originated in the most recent common ancestor(MRCA)of land plants and formed divergent groups in the ancestor of seed plants.However,key transcription factors for SA signaling,TGACG motif-binding proteins(TGAs),originated in the MRCA of streptophytes,arguing for the stepwise evolution of core SA signaling in plants.Different from the assembly of the core SA signaling pathway in the ancestor of seed plants,SA exists extensively in green plants,including chlorophytes and streptophyte algae.However,the full isochorismate synthase(ICS)-based SA synthesis pathway was first assembled in the MRCA of land plants.We further revealed that the ancient abnormal inflorescence meristem 1(AIM1)-basedβ-oxidation pathway is crucial for the biosynthesis of SA in chlorophyte algae,and this biosynthesis pathway may have facilitated the adaptation of early-diverging green algae to the high-light-intensity environment on land.Taken together,our findings provide significant insights into the early evolution and diversification of plant SA signaling and biosynthesis pathways,highlighting a crucial role of SA in stress tolerance during plant terrestrialization.Xianqing Jia Long Wang Hongyu Zhao Yibo Zhang Zhixiang Chen Lei Xu Keke Yi 2023Molecular Plant2023,16,1:0
16Mulberry leaf flavonoids activate BAT and induce browning of WAT to improve type 2 diabetes via regulating the AMPK/SIRT1/PGC-1α signaling pathway显示文摘Mulberry (Morus alba L.) leaf is a well-established traditional Chinese botanical and culinary resource. It has found widespread application in the management of diabetes. The bioactive constituents of mulberry leaf, specifically mulberry leaf flavonoids (MLFs), exhibit pronounced potential in the amelioration of type 2 diabetes (T2D). This potential is attributed to their ability to safeguard pancreatic β cells, enhance insulin resistance, and inhibit α-glucosidase activity. Our antecedent research findings underscore the substantial therapeutic efficacy of MLFs in treating T2D. However, the precise mechanistic underpinnings of MLF’s anti-T2D effects remain the subject of inquiry. Activation of brown/beige adipocytes is a novel and promising strategy for T2D treatment. In the present study, our primary objective was to elucidate the impact of MLFs on adipose tissue browning in db/db mice and 3T3-L1 cells and elucidate its underlying mechanism. The results manifested that MLFs reduced body weight and food intake, alleviated hepatic steatosis, improved insulin sensitivity, and increased lipolysis and thermogenesis in db/db mice. Moreover, MLFs activated brown adipose tissue (BAT) and induced the browning of inguinal white adipose tissue (IWAT) and 3T3-L1 adipocytes by increasing the expressions of brown adipocyte marker genes and proteins such as uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) and beige adipocyte marker genes such as transmembrane protein 26 (Tmem26), thereby promoting mitochondrial biogenesis. Mechanistically, MLFs facilitated the activation of BAT and the induction of WAT browning to ameliorate T2D primarily through the activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK)/sirtuin 1 (SIRT1)/peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma coactivator 1α (PGC-1α) signaling pathway. These findings highlight the unique capacity of MLF to counteract T2D by enhancing BAT activation and inducing browning of IWAT, thereby ameliorating glucose and lipid metabolism disorders.
