| 1 | Prognostic value of systemic immune.inflammation index in patients with gastric cancer显示文摘Background:Inflammation-based indexes have been used to predict survival and recurrence in cancer patients.Systemic immune-inflammation index(Sll) was reported to be associated with prognosis in some malignant tumors.In the present study,we aimed to explore the association between Sll and the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer.Methods:We retrospectively analyzed data from 444 gastric cancer patients who underwent gastrectomy at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University between January 1994 and December 2005.Preoperative Sll was calculated.The Chi square test or Fisher's exact test was used to determine the relationship between preoperative Sll and clinicopathologic characteristics.Overall survival(OS) rates were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method,and the effect of Sll on OS was analyzed using the Cox proportional hazards model.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves were used to compare the predictive ability of Sll,NLR,and PLR.Results:Sll equal to or higher than 660 was significantly associated with old age,large tumor size,unfavorable Borrmann classification,advanced tumor invasion,lymph node metastasis,distant metastasis,advanced TNM stage,and high carcino-embryonic antigen level,high neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio,and high platelet-lymphocyte ratio(all P<0.05).High Sll was significantly associated with unfavorable prognosis(P<0.001) and Sll was an independent predictor for OS(P=0.015).Subgroups analysis further showed significant associations between high Sll and short OS in stage Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ subgroups(all P<0.05).Sll was superior to NLR and PLR for predicting OS in patients with gastric cancer.Conclusion:Preoperative Sll level is an independent prognostic factor for OS in patients with gastric cancer. | Kang Wang Feiyu Diao Zhijun Ye Xinhua Zhang Ertao Zhai Hui Ren Tong Li Hui Wu Yulong He Shirong Cai Jianhui Chen | 2017 | Chinese Journal of Cancer2017,36,9: | 30 |
| 2 | Prostate cancer identification: quantitative analysis of T2-weighted MR images based on a back propagation artificial neural network model显示文摘Computer-aided diagnosis(CAD) systems have been proposed to assist radiologists in making diagnostic decisions by providing helpful information. As one of the most important sequences in prostate magnetic resonance imaging(MRI), image features from T2-weighted images(T2WI) were extracted and evaluated for the diagnostic performances by using CAD. We extracted 12 quantitative image features from prostate T2-weighted MR images. The importance of each feature in cancer identification was compared in the peripheral zone(PZ) and central gland(CG), respectively. The performance of the computer-aided diagnosis system supported by an artificial neural network was tested. With computer-aided analysis of T2-weighted images, many characteristic features with different diagnostic capabilities can be extracted. We discovered most of the features(10/12) had significant difference(P<0.01) between PCa and non-PCa in the PZ, while only five features(sum average, minimum value, standard deviation, 10 th percentile, and entropy) had significant difference in CG. CAD prediction by features from T2 w images can reach high accuracy and specificity while maintaining acceptable sensitivity. | 5 | Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging evaluation of pelvic lymph node metastasis in bladder cancer显示文摘Background:Accurate evaluation of lymph node metastasis in bladder cancer(BCa)is important for disease staging,treatment selection,and prognosis prediction.In this study,we aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of com-puted tomography(CT)and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)for metastatic lymph nodes in BCa and establish criteria of imaging diagnosis.Methods:We retrospectively assessed the imaging characteristics of 191 BCa patients who underwent radical cys-tectomy.The data regarding size,shape,density,and diffusion of the lymph nodes on CT and/or MRI were obtained and analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis test and χ^(2) test.The optimal cutoff value for the size of metastatic node was deter-mined using the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis.Results:A total of 184 out of 3317 resected lymph nodes were diagnosed as metastatic lymph nodes.Among 82 imaging-detectable lymph nodes,51 were confirmed to be positive for metastasis.The detection rate of metastatic nodes increased along with more advanced tumor stage(P<0.001).Once the ratio of short-to long-axis diameter≤0.4 or fatty hilum was observed in lymph nodes on imaging,it indicated non-metastases.Besides,lymph nodes with spiculate or obscure margin or necrosis indicated metastases.Furthermore,the short diameter of 6.8 mm was the optimal threshold to diagnose metastatic lymph node,with the area under ROC curve of 0.815.Conclusions:The probability of metastatic nodes significantly increased with more advanced T stages.Once lymph nodes are detected on imaging,the characteristic signs should be paid attention to.The short diameter>6.8 mm may indicate metastatic lymph nodes in BCa. | Yong Li Feiyu Diao Siya Shi Kaiwen Li Wangshu Zhu Shaoxu Wu Tianxin Lin | 2018 | Cancer Communications2018,38,1: | 7 |
| 6 | Quantitative nanoscale mapping of three-phase thermal conductivities in filled skutterudites via scanning thermal microscopy显示文摘In the last two decades, a nano structuring paradigm has been successfully applied in a wide range of thermoelectric materials, resulting in significant reduction in thermal conductivity and superior thermoelectric performance. These advances, however, have been accomplished without directly investigating the local thermoelectric properties, even though local electric current can be mapped with high spatial resolution. In fact, there still lacks an effective method that links the macroscopic thermoelectric performance to the local micro structures and properties. Here, we show that local thermal conductivity can be mapped quantitatively with good accuracy, nanometer resolution and one-to-one correspondence to the micro structure using a three-phase skutterudite as a model system. Scanning thermal microscopy combined with finite element simulations demonstrate close correlation between sample conductivity and probe resistance,enabling us to distinguish thermal conductivities spanning orders of magnitude, yet resolving thermal variation across a phase interface with small contrast. | 9 | Harnessing the native type I-B CRISPR-Cas for genome editing in a polyploid archaeon显示文摘Research on CRISPR-Cas(clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats-CRISPR associated protein) systems has led to the revolutionary CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing technique. However, for most archaea and half of bacteria, exploitation of their native CRISPR-Cas machineries may be more straightforward and convenient. In this study, we harnessed the native type I-B CRISPR-Cas system for precise genome editing in the polyploid haloarchaeon Haloarcula hispanica. After testing different designs, the editing tool was optimized to be a single plasmid that carries both the self-targeting miniCRISPR and a 600-800 bp donor. Significantly, chromosomal modifications, such as gene deletion, gene tagging or single nucleotide substitution, were precisely introduced into the vast majority of the transformants. Moreover, we showed that simultaneous editing of two genomic loci could also be readily achieved by one step. Owing to their various compositi ons and tun able electronic properties, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have the great potential to realize high-efficiency catalysts for ORR. Here, various 3R-phase dichalcogenides of group VB and VIB transition metals (MX2, M = Nb, Ta, Mo, W;X = S, Se, Te) are investigated for ORR catalysts by using density functional theory calculations. The computed over-potentials of group VB TMDs are much less than those of group VIB TMDs. For group VB TMDs, a volcano-type plot of ORR catalytic activity is established on the adsorption energies of *OH, and NbS2 and TaTe2 exhibit best ORR activity with an oveepotential of 0.54 V. To achieve even better activity, strain engineering is performed to tune ORR catalytic activity, and the minimum over-potential of 0.43 V can be realized. | 13 | On the Unusual Holocene Carbonate Sediment in Lake Nam Co,Central Tibet显示文摘In lacustrine sediments,aragonite is a widespread mineral,whereas monohydrocalcite is a rare carbonate mineral. In the cold and high-attitude Xizang (Tibetan) Plateau,where aragonite has been commonly found in lacustrine sediments,there is no aragonite,but low-Mg calcite,monohydrocalcite and trace dolomite. The lake receives solutes primarily from surface runoffs and remains fairly constant water chemistry for a long time. The total CaCO3 percentage in sediments could be controlled by evaporation and inflow of detrital materials. The absence of aragonite is unusual when compared to other lacustrine sediments from the Tibetan Plateau. This could be due to low Ca/Mg ratio,low salinity,low Mg and Ca concentration. Monohydrocalcite might precipitate from the lake water mediated by biological activities.
